timenamoney: use a litre of coolant to fight rust and condensed or distilled water that has higher boiling point , not tap water with low 100degree boiling point which can evaporate coursing shortage for now , buy a new radiator and never put water into your cooling system except coolant for 5years ppractically by me I don’t even know if its the leak that is causing water shortages. Or because its water? Yesterday night scared me when i off the car the fan refuse to of. I on the car to check the temperature it pass the half mark. This has never happened before and while driving i never check it. After some minutes before the fan short down. It as last night. I just allow it to cool down and it was this morning that open the radiator the dater was down. I use two pure water to fill it. It look like i will need a radiator replacement. So many things needs attention but this car own just de shake my head. |

buygala: The first picture below is where the EVAP Purge valve is...it is the thing connected to the red hose.. Yours might not be a red hose tho...sha get the point
The 2nd picture shows where the red hose connects to the engine.. You can either choose to block off the hose at this engine point, or like I did, remove the red hose from that valve, chook nylon inside to sufficiently block it, and then reconnect it to the valve for appearance purposes
My own accord has a 3.2litre Acura engine and gearbox tho. But the location of the purge valve is similar to that of the normal eod v6 engine.. In any case, the valve has a label on it, so it shouldn't be hard for you to find After you block that place. Did you have anything like check engine light before you did it. Also did you have check engine light after you did it? |

osato45: Yes it's for me. The fuel smell you perceive could be from leaks in the engine bay. When you observe that smell, park and examine underneath of your car from front to back as well as the engine bay, the booth were the fuel pump is. Or better still ask your mechanic to check it out. its from the engine bay. it cannot be from the boot. the smell is not hash. but just slit. if your nose is not sensitve you wont notice. i have check then engine nothing. it might be the steering pump fluid though that pour there. you know air from the hood find there way into the car when driving om speed. |

buygala: Scott talks shit sometimes..
I have a 2003 Accord v6 and I still get 350 miles to a full tank on it.. It was guzzling fuel like yours until I discovered that the EVAP system was faulty..As soon as I disconnected the evap purge valve, mpg jumped to almost double.. Black soot in tailpipe disappeared..Now I get 5 miles per litre steady while driving in town.
While your car is on, open your fuel tank cover.. If there is a gush of air from there and the car goes off, you have a Faulty evap system that's feeding your car engine too much air, which causes the ECU to feed the engine excess fuel to meet up that air demand...Also hard starting just after buying fuel is a symptom of EVAP problems.. Good thing is that a simple disconnection of the EVAP purge valve solves the issue, without any consequence to performance.. In fact, the Accord felt much lighter and faster after that disconnection... These days, I use the Accord as much as I use my other car, even though that one costs thrice or four times the market value of the Accord.
Also have a mech check if your brakes are binding.. Binding brakes also significantly affect fuel consumption. what do you mean by disconnect the evap value? Please come clean step by step. Did you replace it? If you mean disconnect how did you disconnect it? And a picture of the thing and where it's located can help. Thanks |

There panic today.
I just drove home and turn off the car. But the fan was still blowing. I came out from the car to observe it if I’m hearing it well. There was panic in me. I enter the car and start the car and i saw that the temperature has pass the half mark way up. Panic and I didn’t keep my eye on the dashboard while driving this night, what comes to my mind is the radiator, this kind thing has never happened before. Make this radiator nor come put me for problem oh.
I off the car but the fan still continue. I was scared at that moment. I enter google and did search and the results calm me down. I called my mechanic to inform him but it looks like he haven’t seen something like that before. The fan runs for several minutes before it shut down.
I called my mechanic to inform him again. He said just leave it to cool down till tomorrow. From tomorrow morning fill the water.
Men i nor wan hear engine wahala oh.
Na to buy radiator oh |

Update
45miles reading.
The meter is quarter. 4/3.
Half tank is about 32.5 liters. And quarter should be 16.25 liters.
16.25 liters that would be 4.27 gallons.
If 45 miles uses 4.27 gallons is not that too much.
I would just wait a bit for it to get to half tank |

THROTTLE: You have super sensitive hands and are paying attention.
You should also notice a difference with the steering response when you have passengers/luggage.
The height of it all? You should be able to tell an underinflated tire, correctly, just by steering the vehicle and 'feeling' it. it was my first time doing full tank. I mostly drive alone. I think I have understood my car handling before now. The full tank made an obvious difference that minutes because I drove to the filling station and so I can tell. But Since I have been driving the full tank now I am use to this very one. |

I told my mechanic to remove the thermostat from this one he said he cannot that anything that made him to remove it will make it spoil. Te said they don’t remove it.

olumzzz: Price of petrol affects price of commodities. Do not mix the coolant as most are already pre-mixed (confirm on label). As my oga nurey said, you can buy total coolant from any total filling station, I think it's 1k per liter. Using water might lead to rusts and might damage your water pump because of zero internal lubrication. I guess your fan is already running direct and thermostat removed else you would've had serious overheating issues in between your water topups. no my thermostat is intact. I check the radiator yesterday and the water has not leak so i will observe it for a week before i make decisions. I keep getting check engine light for “coolant thermostat P0128”. Is it because of water or what? The thermostat work as fan doesn’t come on when the engine starts. I come on after it warm and off/On intervals. What could cause a coolant thermostat? This started after engine seat was changed. |

I did a full tank top up of 9k in addiction to what i have there before. As i was living the filling station the car was kind of heavy in my hands. I have never experienced that before while driving alone.
My trip is in 100. I did this just to study my fuel consumption. I have been complaining to people about the fuel consumption.
I am now using a climate control with 70f setting and I observed that the ac blow gently and very calm unlike the way i use it before which blows hard and cold aggressively as i use to set it.
I want to study the miles before it get to half tank. I will keep this thread posted.

nurey: New radiator double cell should be 28k to 35k better to buy now, once subsidy goes, it would be X2 besides a leaking radiator can get bad in ungodly place leading to paying twice for a fix.
Total coolant should be around d 2k per L buy 4 to 5 bottles and use What would make a radiator price double if subsidy is remove? What concerns subsidy with radiator. Incase the radiator doesn't leak again for now. Any problem with using the radiator with water? The coolant thing with radiator is almost 45k and that's huge at this time. Let me just finished with the radiator for the final stage. It might get a replacement next year. Lastly I heard some people saying coolant should be mix with 50% water. So I might buy 3L and mix with water right? |

Former owner of my car use water. The worst part is the the car short water. Although he told me he top water every two days before I buy it. When I bought it brought out the radiator and notice it has been work severally. I thought there was not need working on it again. Let me just buy new one. But from my inquiries the price is very much at the moment. So I continue using the radiator and toping the water like that.
It's not easy toping water every now and than as one usually forgets. I took the radiator out to be work on. I know that will be the last work that will be done on the radiator before it would be replaced.
The guy assured me it will not leak of he tackles on the leaks.
When he finished I installed the radiator and filled with water. I am still observing if there would be leaks.
I was checking on coolant online but the price nor be here. Considering the leaking my rediator it wouldn't be wise.
If I can buy new radiator it would make more since but not with this one.
But if this radiator doesn't leak for now. Is it wise to use coolant? |

Reason is that Nigeria don’t like to spend money to maintain their car and its even now worst with dollar exchange. Part are costly now. So they manage it like that or use inferior repair, service. 150k-300k is needed to be put aside to fix a new toks not to talk of Nigeria used. Except you want to continue from where the former owner stops. The most important thing assure rhe car is solid and still sharp with engine, gear and ac. Every other thing can do work on later on small small. |

thebigkendo: You are mixing it up.. - Thermostat does not control the fan.. - Thermostat is a valve which opens or closes depending on engine temperature.. It opens to allow cool coolant pass through the engine. -Your cooling fan is controlled by a coolant temperature switch(thermistor)/fan switch or by the ECU which gets engine temperature values via coolant temperature sensors. -On your Honda, Cooling fans are suppose to come on when the engine coolant temperature is above 95degC
So now back to you question.. If your cooling fan is rewired to start running immediately engine starts,It won't cause overheating(assuming no other issue with the Cooling system) instead it will cause overcooling since the coolant temperature will never get to 90degC.. This will make the car consume a little more fuel and ECU will throw a P0184 code - Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature Bros I need your help. After my mechanic change my engine sitting. The car start show code P0128. I have cleared this code several times but it keep coming. The fun don't on during start. After the engine has warm up that when the fan starts. It on and off in circles. My mechanic said everything is fine as far as the thermostat works. I don't want anything that will cause damage to engine. https://www.nairaland.com/7643309/im-getting-error-code-p0128 |

vivalavida: Your car has an oil life timer which should be reset back to 100% after every oil change. This readings cannot be relied upon since you don't know how long ago the former owner really changed the oil. Best thing to do is to change that oil immediately after you bought the car. Then learn how to set the oil timer. If possible, use the oil weight recommended for your car. It is written on the oil cap and it is in your manual there. When you change the oil, reset your timer and drive. For honda, when the oil life gets to 15%, SERVICE DUE message starts appearing on your instrument cluster notification panel. When it gets to 5%, you will see the message SERVICE NOW. You should try to do your servicing then. When you continue to use it without changing the oil, the timer gets to 0 and starts reading in negative. That's why you are seeing the -244 and so there. And when it starts reading in the negative, your car ECU system cannot vouch for that oil in your engine again. Damage might happen because that oil has broken down very well. i change with mobil super 2000 5w 30. compare to what the previous owner was using mobil 1000 20w 50. Also I reset the timer and the trip. I will start monitoring it now especially fuel consumption. |
