@bold...Good to know. That's exactly what I am talking about. If they do stamp at the borders, and prior applicants to the embassy who have visited Benin republic have stamps on their passports and you don't have one, that makes you stand out. That is what I was referring to originally. And you do know that entry into a country without a valid passport is illegal entry?

If the visa officer says that she or they would accept your word for it when you said you travelled to Benin Republic but you have no stamp on your passport for it, and you are able to explain the circumstances of your travel, that's fine. I mean, who am I to say otherwise.

Kee ndi bu ndi ayo?

Who hasn't gotten a credit card yet? Or have you applied and you were denied? Or you would like to add another credit card to an existing one that you have?

Credit card applications are often very tough for foreign students in the US because they often lack a prior credit history to get their applications the approved. But if applying through a direct/referral link, it is easier and you are often approved immediately.

For every international student, after opening a bank account and obtaining your SSN the next necessary step is to obtain a credit card to start building your credit history to be able to buy a car or house after graduation.

To apply for a credit card, you can send me a blank email using your email and I will send you the direct link for instant approval. $50 cash bonus will also be given to you after application. I was recently approved for a $3,000 credit card.

I sent you a message sir!
This is for those already in the US who have an SSN and are in school.

Research don kill me!

Thanks to bigfrancis21 and others, my school have now requested for my soa and sponsorship letter which I shall remit this week or early next week... however, i stumbled upon this material on my school's website which i believed, could be useful too:

The consular interview is an important step in the process of receiving a visa. Often, the initial impression a consular interviewer receives from you is critical to your success. Reviewing the tips provided below may help you during your consular interview.

Keep your answers concise. Be honest in everything you write on your visa application and say during the interview. Anticipate that the interview will be conducted in English. Do not bring other people to speak on your behalf.

Be able to explain the reasons you want to study in the U.S. and remember that your main reason for coming to the United States is to study, not to work.

If your spouse and children are remaining behind in your home country, be prepared to explain how they will support themselves in your absence. If they are accompanying you to the U.S., what are the financial arrangements?

As a temporary visitor you may be questioned about your intention to return your home country after completing your studies. You should be ready to provide evidence that you do not intend to emigrate to the U.S. and that you intend to return to your home country after completing your studies. Examples of evidence include proof that you or your parents own an apartment or house, a bank account, a voter registration card.

If you are denied the visa, ask the officer for a list of documents he or she would suggest you bring the next time you apply, and try to get the reason you were denied in writing. Maintain a positive attitude! Do not engage the consular officer in an argument.

International students should apply for the visa in their home country, unless circumstances or travel plans make this impossible. If the student applies in a third country, the application may take more time and be reviewed more critically than if it was applied for at home. The U.S. Department of State maintains an authoritative website on the visa application process and should be studied carefully.

Required Documents for Obtaining a Visa

1. Complete visa application form and pay visa fees.
2. Receipt for payment of the I-901 SEVIS fee if applicable.
3. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your proposed date of entry into the U.S.
4. You will need a 2" x 2" photograph.
5. Form I-20 or DS-2019 for the school or program you wish to attend.
6. Financial evidence detailing source and amount of funding.
7. Consular and immigration officers exercise considerable discretion in determining whether financial support exists and is sufficient to cover
your entire period of stay. Prepare documentation that is thorough, consistent, credible and varied.
8. Official academic transcripts, confirmation of enrollment, and proof of English language proficiency may also be requested.
9. Evidence of continuing ties to your home country (i.e. family, career, or property)
10. Visa applicants are presumed to be "intending immigrants." Your visa will be denied unless you satisfy the consular officer that you will return home. Unfortunately, there is no single explanation, document, or letter than can guarantee visa issuance.

Tips for Obtaining a Visa

Apply for the visa in a timely manner. Consult the embassy or consulate where you will apply to see their wait times at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/general/wait-times.html/.
If students are denied the visa, they should ask the visa officer the reason for their denial and then consult with the Assistant Dean of International Studies at Providence College.

Security & Name Checks

Effective November 13, 2001, certain visa applicants became subject to an additional name check clearance procedure before being issued a nonimmigrant visa. The procedure requires consular officers to send the visa applicant's name to be checked against information in various security, law enforcement, and intelligence databases.

Visa applicants affected include (but may not be limited to) males between the ages of 16 and 45 from one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen and students in certain areas of study. Reports indicate that the procedure can take at least 20 business days. Please factor this extra time into your planned visa processing time if you believe you may belong to an affected group.

Hope this helps guys... K'odi cool

Such a thread will actually be a good idea.

What I will say is many companies with good graduate programs in the US and UK who are willing and able to sponsor for work permits tend to fill up a large chunk of their graduate programs from their internship class.

My advice especially for those going for undergraduate courses is to try very hard to secure an internship with such companies during your studies as this makes it easier to secure positions on their graduate programs. Many times you may even be extended offers after the internship t return after your program if you do well.

Now I am not saying getting such internships is easy. It is tough as there is lots of competition not only from US citizens, but other international students from China, India, Europe etc and this is where good grades, attending reputable schools and being informed matter.

Understanding the recruitment timelines is crucial as i see many Nigerians miss this and end up applying too late. Most companies recruit the year before you start i.e. application will start about September 2015, interviews probably jan/feb and offers by March for September 2016 internship or graduate class so understanding this timing is very important.

research research research, and try to mix with people who are better informed than you so you can learn from them. As someone mentioned earlier the first set of people you mix with can influence you either positively or negatively, so be wise.
I personally am not one to insist on only mixing with Nigerians etc as I strongly believe in diversity and being a global citizen. mixing with people from other countries expands your horizon and makes you more enlightened and open minded. Not saying do not talk or mix with Nigerians, but be open minded to mixing with people for who they are not where they are from.

Also note that the hard work starts now not when you want to apply. What I mean is you start researching the companies you want to target immediately you start your program. Sometimes they have events for prospective interns which are very good opportunities to meet people there and also learn more. Take advantage of all this.

Good luck to all you guys. It's hard work but once you are able to break into the system, the sky is the limit.

Sorry for the long sermon smiley.
Abeg u get any advice for those going for graduate studieshuh

@Profojah, I had not seen Awe2015's post when I put up my transcript. If I had, maybe I wouldn't have dignified your sarcasm with a response.
@imperiouxx, the transcript wasn't put up to make a point about the course. + I think I get your point, many have raised concerns about my choice and many more will but just remember "to each his own". This so called "American dream" differs for everybody; some people aren't just as "desperate" as some others. I made a choice to tow the line of Religious Studies - filled it out in Jamb form; I work with one of the best banks in Nigeria (take home pays the bills n gives room to save up A LOT) but I'm walking away from this to pursue a Masters in Religious Studies (and not settling for a MBA) because I have a pretty good idea of my desired destination (and it has nothing to do with Priesthood). Do me a favour n send me PMs so I can invite you for dinner and more when I get to the destination!
don't really have anything to say for now until I get my Visa...
