i see your point. I doubt he's in any Western country. If he came to Nigeria at that time and never left, chances of tracking him down is very low if he did a name change and continued to mind his business (keep low). The last image they had of him was 20 years ago. A lot must have changed about him.

true. Changing name was easy then. No biometrics, BVN. Even if he wanted, that was enough time to return to school under a different name, get degrees and get into the corporate world.

I see your point but the problem remains. 50% down-payment is unattainable for the working class majority.

If banks are committed to financing mortgages, a 20% down-payment would work for a good number of workers with the rest spread over 20 years. It's a loan backed by security- the property in itself so the risk is manageable for the banks. They already have a robust structure in place for debt recovery.

That way, the developer/builder is encouraged to build more condominiums and similar structures.

Good development but financing terms still put the scheme out of the reach of workers who truly need housing. 50% down-payment seems unattainable for many. Nigerian banks should go into the business of financing mortgages.

I almost got killed in the same manner in 2009. I had just moved to Oworonsoki for easy access to my new job on the island.
I was at the Oworo roundabout and there were no buses that evening. A bike man came around. I boarded the bike. I was new to the area and couldn't tell the direction he was taking. He parked under a lonely bridge. Before i could figure out what was happening, he had snatched my bags containing clothes and then was struggling for the bag containing my wallet and phone. He punched me so hard. When i managed to get away, i crossed the road without looking. I could have been crushed by an on-coming vehicle. A good Samaritan who lived across saw me cross the road. He had witnessed the incident. He helped me back home and mentioned it was a common occurrence.
I was shaken by that incident.

Lagos hasn't always been safe. Be careful out there.

In developed countries, almost everyone uses loan for new cars, whether civil servants or not. It's a credit based system. Only few pay cash for new cars. The difference is a civil servant in those countries can qualify for loan to buy a brand new car based on his salary if he chooses to.

Our education system should give compulsory room for vocational training, tech skills etc. The world is changing and our educational system should be adjusted to fit into the new world. Let's do away wit our archaic and precolonial system of education.

The future is tech. AI is taking over. Acquiring a tech skills should be a must in our educational system.

Years back I had to talk some sense into my young bro who wanted to study mechanical engineering " the same course I graduated wit but nothing to show for it and I had to switch profession". I told him to go for software engineering or cyber security. After all the argument he took my advice and now a graduate of software engineering from FUTMINNA and his his doing so well for himself and the family.

After chopping books like Engineering Drawing with Worked Examples, by F. Pickup and M.A. Parker, and graduating wit a 2.1, I still ended up changing profession.
