If found culpable, that's good for him. Also, The herbalist shouldn't be let be. They should be hanged! All those useless herbalist or Alfa doing black magic or whatever shouldn't be allowed to live!

My grandmother talked about the old days.. Herbalist were all about healing herbs back then.. No black magic whatsoever and there was no problem walking around in the dead of the night..
And one wonders why a PhD holder and university founder like Adedoyin would be involved in ritual practices to the extent of killing a human. His education did nothing to refine him. What sort of education did he get? Baffles me.

Being a civil servant in Nigeria is the quickest way to sell yourself into slavery.
It depends on the level of government you work with. Federal Civil servants have a lot of leverage. They have a lot of time on their hands for business, their salaries are paid on time and they belong to good cooperative societies where they can get loans at very minimal interest rates for business.

Car Talk / Re: Help! My Car Is Always At The Mechanic by ayandee: 12:43pm On May 07, 2023
Labragadaya:
I bought a 2002 Toyota Camry as my first car in October and for the first 2-3 months the car performed pretty well.

However lately, from January it has been one problem to the other.

From overheating to coil problem to spark plug problem and others.

The recent issue with the car is that the car doesn’t hold slow anymore.

That is the car goes off at slow speeds. I’ve changed coil, changed spark plug, ringed engine twice all to no avail.

This has caused a huge hole in my pocket as I’ve even had to borrow to pay for some of these repairs.

Just yesterday in a bid to resolve this issue, I took the car to another mechanic and he told me my engine block had washed and that even if he grinded the valve the holding slow issue won’t stop. I inquired about the cost of replacing the block and purchase alone was close to a 100 thousand. I’m just tired and frustrated, I need advise, do I sell the car or do I repair this?

Is this mechanic trying to extort me. Experience car users please advise

That car is 21 years old already. Just sell it.
Religion / Re: Are People Only Coming To Church For Welfare Mostly? by ayandee: 12:28pm On May 07, 2023
Omooba77:
I discovered any Sunday we have welfare Sundays, especially food, medical, the attendances always soar, but not so or normal Sunday.
Happy Sunday........
Welfare is one of the reasons for which the church was created. Deacons were even appointed in the early church for that purpose. The Bible says they had things in common and no one lacked. Church must do welfare. I attended a church in South Africa where they had a kitchen pantry full of items- milk, eggs, fruits, snacks, rice and veggies. Members in need will go in there and pick whatever they wanted. The pantry was usually filled up on Saturday ahead of Sunday service.
There's so much hardship in Nigeria and no social safety net, so it's OK if people come to church for welfare. I urge Christians to join the welfare team in their churches and donate whatever they can afford to improve church's welfare funds.

What is it like?

Please, write or share your experience.

Thanks
I live in Manitoba. The truth is from December to mid-April, the cold is brutal, I mean the type that can make you lose your fingers and toes if you stay too long in it without proper clothing. Invest in good jackets, thermal wears, mittens, warm socks etc.

Ontario, British Columbia and some other provinces aren't as cold.

You make it a priority and do it in stages.

You are right. While it is important to be stable before marriage, financial stability is not a determinant. My husband and I got married when we didn't even know what exactly we wanted to do. We just enjoyed each other's company and wanted to be together. In our first 2 weeks after marriage, we both slept on a blanket, no mattress because we had spent all our savings on getting a room and parlor. Then, Lagos landlords were asking for 2 years upfront rent plus agreement and commission. We struggled to pay it. Family helped with the wedding (you know yoruba families and weddings). He was working a 28k job, then had a 60k job then lost that job and had no job. But one thing we did was to continue to develop our selves. He had HND then started BSC about the time we got married and at some point we had to make a decision between renewing our rent with the severance cheque from his last job and paying his university tuition fees. Our child was one year at that time. Guess what? We paid his school fees with that money. God saw our heart and gave me a federal job without any connection and we paid the rent.

He got an IT job and started earning way more than me. Long story short, we are in Canada and sometimes we used to laugh over those times.

* Warning: You can only do this with someone with whom you share the same values. I repeat values are important.

greatopec:
Good day Nairalanders
I will be 40 on Oct 19 this year and I am scared the kind of life I have always desired may not be
achievable. Let me list these things that worries me so that you can probably advise me or assist me in achieving any of them.
1) By 40 I had wished I will be living in my house with cars in my garage
Current situation- I am a salary earner who eagerly waits for the salary to drop before my family can eat conveniently every month.
2)I love cars and driving. Was thinking of getting a good car for Uber business.
Current situation- I have not been able to gather enough money to buy a car for Uber or personal use.
3)Seeking greener pasture abroad.
Current situation- I have not been able to have enough disposable income to even get a passport to start with in the first place.
4)Self development. I had interest in programming so I decided to learn coding and all that. I started with free code camp and also this thread by iyenimofe on nairaland has been so helpful https://www.nairaland.com/1383359/learn-web-design-live-nairaland/6#17571611
The issue I have progressing is that of enough data subscription to watch more tutorials.
5)Acquisition of at least Masters.
I have a passion for learning and self development but I struggled to have my HND with distinction. Gathering enough funds to start my masters program has been an uphill task.

Little about my background
I am an HND graduate
I have a sister who am responsible for also.
I have a wife and two kids.
I work 8-5weekdays

I am glad you came to this realization. Not too late. Your wife has a lot of potential as NCE holder. Get a small space in a building around your area and let her start a creche/pre-school. She may need to do a short training course in montessori education usually, one month and design a programme that will help children of age 6months to 4 years.

I don't know how this will work with her egg business but I would have loved she combines the two. If she shows dedication and genuine interest in early childhood he education she can transition into a school later on. Banks support school owners who have potential for growth. I have seen people do this and now they even have secondary schools.

Programming is good. You need to push yourself hard enough to create time for it. It's rewarding if you have the skills.

Stop patronising mediocrity. University in 21st century producing bread to generate funds is a big low. It's a university for crying out loud! They should go into inventories like Biogas waste management and collaborate with government if they truly want to generate funds. Producing ordinary bread that our dearest daughter Ahnie can produce inside her 2 by 2 kitchen is laughable.
Good point. Our universities need to connect with industries, identify their needs and challenges and proffer solutions. Industries can fund those researches.

To the japa crew you would think Nigerians don't get murdered abroad when they start their lamentations about insecurity. Only if you know how many Nigerians have been knifed in the UK or shot dead in the US.
Crimes happen everywhere. There's hardly any society that's completely rid of crime. But see how in this case the criminals were brought to justice. Speedy investigation, arrest of offenders, and prosecution which will take between 4 to 5 weeks. The offenders will be brought to justice.
That's the difference between Nigeria and those countries you mentioned. They have very strong institutions.

But practically, the victim is dead. Nothing we do or don't do will bring him back. But it feels good to know that justice will be done and those guys will be kept away from hurting other people.

I mean the rate at which he and his appointees are appealing to Lagosians everyday now is amusing o.
Just seeing dear, dear dear everywhere.
Ggadebo and his Obidients are currently giving Sanwo sleepless nights.

I feel no pity for him because he actually took Lagosians for granted, was so arrogant and thought he will just be enthroned for his second term without doing anything.
I personally don't have anything against Sanwoolu but this is an opportunity for him to assert himself politically. Tinubu has moved on leaving Sanwoolu to "grow up" and prove himself politically.

When a woman cheats on you, it never goes away, atleast for me it never does.
It's better not to marry her and start from a new slate.

She is my best friend now, you know that kind of friendship that's just so intimate and pure.
She has a child, that complicates the issue, I'd rather not get into marriage with her but like I said, I love her and I am sure she loves me too.

Love is not enough, I am just wondering if shes not gonna become clingy and impossible to detach when I finally find another person I want to settle down with.

Also this kind of situation is not so easy to move on from since I am still single.
I think you should try to let go of the past. She's much older and mature now and I believe she has learnt her lessons. Both of you seem to understand each other well and you are good friends. Consider marrying her. Take her abroad with you and live happily ever after.

Last week I had an interview for a data analyst teaching job, after series of interview process which includes.
Analyzing data with Excel and BI
Extracting and cleaning data with Python &SQL
Modeling, analyzing and visualization with R.
Though my Python prowess wasn't that good but I was told that what they needed is a data analyst who can handle R very well and I really impressed in that aspect.

I showed my data analysis projects on the above software excluding Python. Then we went to oral interview which led to the salary part. I was asked to name my price.
I told them to give me a breakdown on how many days I will be coming to work because I learnt it will be part time teaching job, the interviewer agreed to mail me my schedule.

I was hoping it will be weekend (like Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday) only for me to realized it will be Mon-Thur (that's not part time, I told the manager or so).
The worst part is that they are willing to pay me 10k/week for the job and I will be paid each week I come to work which means it's only the weeks the students avail themselves that I will teach and be paid.

Those tech pay such ridiculous amount or am just unlucky?
What am I expected to do with 10k weekly?
Transport?
Data?
Food?
Electricity?
What exactly?

I was furious though and I am still furious.

Since you are interested in teaching, set up your own zoom or teams teaching platform for data analytics. There are people who are want to learn.

Buy sulphur cream and apply it morning and night after bath. Alternatively, go to those Women selling herbs, buy sulphur and etu-ibon and osun (camwood). Tell them to blend together for you and mix it with vaseline. Second option is more potent.

Travel / Re: Why Do Nigerians Become Less Religious When They Travel Abroad? by ayandee: 6:02am On Dec 25, 2022
Originalsly:
I believe the opposite ... that one gets more religious when abroad. If one was a church goer in Nigeria ... when he goes abroad he will attend church because it is a must for him on Sundays ... a sin if he doesn't. When he gets to the church abroad ... he will see a huge difference... the biggest being collecting money is not a priority... they usually collect once or maybe twice if there is a special offering. If you give or don't give ... give much or give little doesn't matter at all... if you give $100 000 dollars you wouldn't be praised or be given special attention. The preaching will be to lift you spiritually ... help keep you away from worldly vices ... not about squeezing more money out of you. It is then your eyes will open and you realize all the while you were being scammed back home. It is then you will decide to be religious.... to see things differently... to realize all the hollering and screaming was a sham and not tolerated abroad as it is expected back home to prove you are filled with a spirit. It is then you will know it is written God helps those who help themselves ... and there will be no midnight prayer vigils to go to for God to favor you and get a job for you while you sit at home waiting. Over to you!
Exactly. Here, you will understand true christanity. People seek God here just to be intimate with Him, nothing more. The sermons do not speak of the preacher's accomplishments. The focus is on the Bible. Even the prayer is not rhetoric. They pray like they are conversing with God.

No mention of tithe or offering. The donations box is at the back of the church hall. If you want to give, you go there and give as you are led. No compulsion. You can even get receipts for your donations for tax purposes. Every quarter, the church will include the quarterly financial statements in the newsletter showing total income and expenditure. The church system is transparent and in spite of not making annuncements for tithes and offering, the year end reports of the church show they had a surplus. The only thing I miss is the Naija church dance.
