The real reason Portuguese captain, Cristiano Ronaldo made the decision to leave Real Madrid has been revealed.

Marca reports that the 33-year-old decided to leave the Santiago Bernabeu back in January 2018 after feeling he was no longer valued and appreciated by the club.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Real also made the decision back in January that they would accept an offer of just £88million for Ronaldo, a tenth of his release clause which enraged the forward.

The report also claimed that the ex-Manchester United star has had a bad relationship with Real for some time, having grown frustrated with the lack of support he received from the club last summer over his tax case.

It added that Ronaldo has also wanted a new contract that puts his salary more in line with the massive wages PSG and Barcelona now pay Neymar and Lionel Messi respectively, though president Florentino Perez has been reluctant to extend Ronaldo’s already lucrative deal.

Upon finding out, Ronaldo was quoted as saying, “If I’m only worth €100m (£88m), it’s because they don’t love me.”

Ronaldo looks set to leave the Los Blancos this summer after nine successful seasons in the Spanish capital, with Juventus working on an £88m deal to bring the forward to Turin.

A former managing director of Juventus football club, Luciano Moggi had opened up on the Italian giants’ move to sign Ronaldo this summer.

The Senate Thursday decided to investigate alleged sexual abuse and violence against Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at camps in the North-East and across the country.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki disclosed this while receiving the Amnesty International (AI) 2017/18 report on ‘The State of the World’s Human Rights’ and the organization’s report on women who survived Boko Haram onslaught but were later maltreated, from its Country Director, Mrs. Osai Ojigho, in Abuja.

Saraki affirmed that the country being an important part of the comity of nations, must continue to lead by example by doing the right things.

“By getting it right, we must be able to accept where these issues exist and work with partners like yourselves to be able to establish the facts,” Saraki said, adding that, “We have already set up a panel on your IDPs report. By doing this, we can establish where sanctions need to be meted out.”

The Senate President continued: “You have our assurance that nothing will be covered up. Not just for the purpose of disciplining people, but for the purpose of preventing recurrence. By doing this, we can help to ensure that people will change in their approach.

“Our people are already going through a lot of hardship in the IDPs camps, they do not need this. We must stand and be there for them. In this regard, I am very keen to see the committee work very closely with you to resolve this — so that the administration of justice is achieved and people will get a fair hearing.”

In her remarks, the Country Director of AI, Mrs. Ojigho said that the visit was meant to commend the Senate for setting up a panel to investigate the allegations contained in the report.

“We think it is a good sign of progress and a willingness to find out the truth regarding the incidents that have been happening and we hope that it will bring recourse to the women victims and their families in their quest to seek justice.

“We also want to commend the work of the National Assembly in passing and reforming our laws, particularly the Anti-Torture Law that was signed by the President in December. We believe that this would go a long way in addressing the issue of torture, particularly by our security forces in Nigeria,” the Country Director said.

Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, has restated the commitment of the Federal Government to job creation for the citizenry.

He, however, noted that the public sector which the government controls was not expected to give more than 20 per cent of jobs.

Ngige spoke during the inaugural meeting of the Board of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The minister called on the NDE to expand its skills acquisition programmes in order to reduce the nation’s unemployment index.

According to him, NDE is a multipurpose vehicle whose mandate is anchored on creating varying programmes to ginger creativity, skills acquisition and self-reliance.

“The whole essence is to create a sustainable mechanism for job creation through skills development paradigm capable of producing a self-dependent generation of Nigerians.

“That is who will not only empower themselves but also transfer the skills and replicate jobs,” he said.

He, however, noted that paucity of funds has hampered such an ideal.

Ngige said NDE’s mandate centring on training and equipping of trainees, empowering them with loans to set up their own businesses would be easy if the the agency was well-funded.

“But that’s not to say the NDE is not doing its best within the limit of available resources,” the minister added.

The federal government has condemned the kidnapping of Pa Michael John Obi, father of the Super Eagles’ Captain John Mikel Obi.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, said the emotional and psychological trauma caused the player and his father was unimaginable.

He said on the night of Super Eagles’ Group D encounter with Argentina at the ongoing World Cup in Russia, Obi received the news of his father’s kidnap by hoodlums along the Makurdi-Enugu road on their way from Jos but still went ahead to play for the country.

The Minister commended the former Chelsea star for his show of patriotism during the match following his courageous display of loyalty to the country despite the sad news of his father’s abduction.

Dalung described Mikel as a brave player who did not allow the sad news to distract him from putting in his best for the country while thanking the Nigerian Police for rescuing the father.

His words: “It is very unfortunate that on the night Mikel Obi was playing for Nigeria, kidnappers decided to emotionally traumatize the young man by kidnapping his father. I can imagine what was going on in his mind while he was playing for the country knowing that his father was unsafe somewhere in the kidnappers’ hideout.

“It is disheartening to know that on the night the players were putting in their best to qualify Nigeria for the second round of the World Cup, evil men had in captivity, the father of one of the team’s greatest players.

“We salute Mikel Obi for his courage during the game and pray for the father’s quick recovery and stability from the trauma.

“I also thank the Nigerian Police for their quick response to the incident and their prompt rescue of Pa Michael John Obi,” Dalung said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured a total of 139 convictions between January and June 2018.

The figure, which is an improvement of the 89 convictions recorded in May, is indeed, significant in many respects, particularly, as it includes the conviction of two Political Exposed Persons, PEPs – Jolly Nyame, a former governor of Taraba and Joshua Dariye, a serving Senator and a former governor of Plateau, who both are currently serving their 14-year jail sentence for criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of public funds, and receiving gratification.

Indeed, the EFCC has remained consistent in its efforts of effectively changing the negative narrative of pervasive corruption in the system, and altering the general perception that there are some people who are above the Law. Suffice to state, that the record of convictions, also includes that of a former Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Joseph Nwobike, who was convicted for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

At the moment, several of such corruption cases are being prosecuted by the EFCC across the country, which the anti-graft agency is determined to prosecute to a logical conclusion. The agency is determined not to rest on its oars, as it is poised to surpass the 189 convictions secured in 2017.

Drake’s new album Scorpion has only been out a day and it’s already breaking streaming records.

According to data from SpotifyCharts.com, Scorpion completely obliterated Spotify’s day-one global streaming record, racking up an incredible 132 million streams on June 29. The previous record was held by Post Malone, whose album Beerbongs & Bentleys earned 78.7 million opening day streams earlier this year.
Post Malone currently holds the title for most first-week streams with over 411 million globally, a record Drake could break if his streaming numbers continue at this pace.

Spotify posted on Twitter that the “I’m Upset” rapper’s new album was being streamed over 10 million times per hour throughout Friday.



The streaming numbers were certainly helped not only be the amount of tracks – Scorpion is a double album featuring 25 songs – but by Spotify’s #ScorpionSZN promotion.

As reported by Variety, Drake was featured on the Spotify homepage, as well as “on the cover of RapCaviar, Beast Mode, Today’s Top Hits, Morning Commute and others—including ones where his music isn’t even featured.”

Opening day numbers show that the track “Nonstop” is the early breakout hit, amassing 9.3 million streams worldwide, breaking the day-one record previously held by J.Cole’s song “KOD.”

Over on Apple Music, Scorpion quickly took the No. 1 album position in 92 countries, with all 25 of the album’s songs occupying spots on the Apple Music chart.
