The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has reacted to reports making the rounds that he was made juicy offers by President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, to remain in the ruling party. Last week, the Senate President and other aggrieved members of the APC met the President and the party leadership at the Presidential Villa. Following the meeting, there were speculations about juicy offers being made to him and his associates as part of the on-going discussions. Saraki, in a statement on Sunday, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said the stories were not true. He said, “I believe at this point, it is important for me to make some clarifications, end speculations and make my position clear. “It is important for Nigerians to know that the discussions that I and many others of like minds are having with the Presidency and the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) is not about me and what I want. “It involves the future of our country and her democracy. It is about making things better for our people. “Though there are many speculations being peddled in the media, let it be known these discussions are not about me. “Whatever has happened to me in the past has passed. Now that God in his infinite mercy has vindicated me, I have moved on, believing that we have all learnt our lessons. “As I said in my statement following the Supreme Court Judgement on July 6, I cannot hold any grudge against any individual. “I have forgiven all those who played any role in my persecution and likewise, I have asked for forgiveness from all those that I wronged in the past. “Our focus should now be about Nigeria. The major issue on the table for discussion is how to strengthen our democracy, rebuild our economy, stop the spate of insecurity, improve the conditions of living of our people and generally chart a course for the development of this great country. “We will be insulting Nigerians if, as the 2019 elections draw nearer, our deliberations is about personal benefits or how to pay compensation for wrongs done to an individual. “As for my political future, we just need to continue to engage with others, listen to advice and exchange ideas because the decision is not that of mine alone. “It is for all our supporters and associates to deliberate upon and take a decision based on the overall interest of our people. It is my prayers that Almighty God will guide us right in all our decisions and make a positive turn-around in our country”, he stated. http://www.vondanews.com/2019-saraki-speaks-on-being-offered-automatic-ticket-oil-well/

The Founder and Senior Pastor, Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has given further details into his encounter with the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, at the Presidential Villa recently. The vice presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 presidential election, said meeting Adeosun in the Villa was totally unplanned, adding that he did not discuss with the London-trained economist the controversy trailing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate. He told Daily Sun that, “I think that has already been resolved. My solicitor already wrote the online social media and they have corrected themselves. We arrived at the Villa at different times, I didn’t know she was coming, she didn’t know I was coming and I went to see the president alone behind a closed door, in a meeting and she went to see someone else in the Villa and when I finished, I didn’t even see her again. How they quickly added one and two together, that was such cheap and sensational journalism. “Assumption is the lowest level of knowledge. Assumption! They should not have assumed. They could simply ask questions. They have access to me; they could simply have asked questions ‘oh, we saw this, what is happening?’ The press must endeavour to give accurate information to the public. “That should not be a lobby discussion. It would not be appropriate. If someone is going through trouble, my job is not to shoot the wounded. If I cannot find solution to the person’s problems, I don’t add more to their problems. It would be inappropriate to start asking her questions in the lobby where everybody was present.” http://www.vondanews.com/nysc-certificate-scandal-bakare-speaks-on-begging-buhari-for-adeosun/

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said that going by what happened in Ekiti State last Saturday, the opposition party would lose the 2019 general elections. The pro-Biafra group said that the governorship poll was characterized by “charade.” According to IPOB, the coalition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and all other opposition parties cannot defeat President Muhammadu Buhari because he would be aided by the military, police and all paramilitary agencies as allegedly witnessed in Ekiti State. The Biafran group, therefore suggested a total boycott of the forthcoming general elections by the South-South, South-East, South-West and the Middle Belt geo-political regions. IPOB’s position was contained in a statement signed by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful and made available to reporters in Enugu yesterday. The statement was entitled, “Ekiti State election; another vindication of IPOB no election stance.” It reads, “Those unfortunate enough to have witnessed the disgraceful charade that passed as Ekiti State governorship election over the weekend, would no doubt, by now, have come to the full realisation that only a total and complete boycott of elections in Nigeria has the remotest chance of setting the poor masses free. “For anybody to describe the electoral dance of shame at Ekiti as “free and fair elections” means that Nigeria is yet to develop an appreciable sense of understanding of what democratic elections is meant to be. “This singular event at Ekiti has proven IPOB right yet again, that voting in Nigeria within the present political arrangement is utterly useless and counter productive. “Under the current electoral conditions in Nigeria, a PVC has transmuted from a supposedly potent object of freedom to one of bondage. IPOB worldwide therefore wish to restate categorically and for purposes of clarity that it would boycott all elections in Nigeria come 2019. “Presidential elections next year will afford IPOB an opportunity to demonstrate our cast iron determination to set Biafra free by totally shutting down South East and South South. “By going out to vote, instead of demanding their freedom, the masses are only helping tyrants to legalize rigging and electoral fraud. What people are doing by voting is willingly and legally renewing their pain and suffering every 4 years. “All the institutions which should act as electoral watch-dogs and umpires (including all the security forces) are under the control of the tyrants. “South East/South East/Middle Belt would be foolhardy to agree to participate in the 2019 elections under such conditions”. http://www.vondanews.com/how-buhari-will-win-2019-election-ipob/

Nigerians have reacted to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s latest criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari. Obasanjo on Wednesday said Buhari was confused and left Nigeria adrift. He said this during a summit organized by the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) in Abuja, where he was represented by a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Reacting, some Nigerians took to their Twitter pages condemning Obasanjo’s constant criticism of President Buhari. They described Obasanjo as also being confused and desperate. Here are the comments gathered by DAILY POST: @Oluwafe “With due respect to Baba Obasanjo. He seems to be confused himself. All the allegation he raised is merely based on sentiment. Nothing more.He keeps raising one issue after the other but Buhari has been getting stronger with each day passing.PDP ruled for 16yrs stealing/looting.” @PAcesetter “The worst thing that will happen to Nigerians is to allow Obasanjo to play a small god again in the Nigeria political sphere. We have moved according to his dictates in the past and failed. It’s high time we ignored him completely.” @LEkebiz324 “Obasanjo should stop saying Buhari is incompetent. OBJ if you were competent during your reigns, we won’t be where we are today.” @Danminna ” Obasanjo has the right to run his mouth & also vomit anything. We’ve had Olisa Metuh, Fani Kayode and Fayose in that “trade”. We know what Obasanjo is after public sympathy when d time comes for questioning. He won’t get it as Nigerians aren’t as stupid.” @BABaino “Na so, a music instrumentalized Mind Is The key to a radical civil Revolution. People Who jailed Fela Anikulapo Kuti can never be Democrats even if they put on civil clothes… Obasanjo, Buhari, etc are nothing but vampires in power.” @Oatobechukwu “I hate Obasanjo more than poverty for supporting Buhari in the first place. He needs to apologize to Nigerians for supporting Buhari & fighting Jonathan who was a loyal servant. He can not just return to PDP & start acting like nothing happened & we accept him like he never trespassed.” @Kadrikenny “Obasanjo, the man that sees no good coming out another person apart from himself.A megalomaniac.” @Dobuchief “God is about to disgrace Obasanjo for all the atrocities he has committed.” @Iameneji “How amusing? Isn’t it? Obasanjo, hitherto very fond of a polemical rampage over the national political scene, now seemingly crying like a baby who lost his lozenges. To him in a desperation, he seeks sympathy by any means to shield his sense of loss.” @Dobuchief “You must be desperate to aligned politically with Obasanjo. Only the desperate ones align with a shameless person.” @Ayomusaobi “The worst political criminal in Nigeria! Nigerians will not forgive you since 1979 till date and years to come 16 billions dollars for power in Nigeria.” http://www.vondanews.com/nigerians-react-as-obasanjo-attacks-buhari-again/

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Wednesday donated relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The victims were villagers affected by attacks and killings allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen last month. The Special Assistant to Adeboye and Regional Pastor in charge of Region 8 (Plateau Family), Sunday Edward Akande, extended Adeboye’s message to the IDPs. Adeboye was quoted as condemning the killings, while commiserating with the people and government of Plateau State. He said “This gesture is to cushion the hardship being experienced at the moment as Internally Displaced Persons. “We all know that it is not your own making that you are here; none of you is happy to be here; but because situation calls for it, we decided to come and identify with you. “There is nothing we will give you that will be equal to what you have lost, but the little we have come with is just to support you”. http://www.vondanews.com/herdsmen-killings-what-adeboye-told-plateau-victims/

Governor of Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, on Wednesday raised alarm over aerial surveillance of the Government House, Ado-Ekiti by a police helicopter. According to the governor, the police chopper has constituted danger to his personal safety, his family, workers and visitors to the Government House. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the governor described the development as “brazen show of naked force and abuse of power by the Federal Government.” According to him, he sees no reason for the aerial surveillance of his official residence and office since the state governorship election is over. He also accused the nation’s security forces of allowing themselves to be used to intimidate political opponents despite being funded with tax payers’ money. His statement in part reads “They continue to fly helicopters over the Government House and Governor’s Office in a way that compromises the safety and well-being of residents and workers. The helicopter flies so low that it runs the risk of crashing into high-rise buildings and masts within the premises. The noise pollution this causes is enough irritation. This brazen show of naked force and abuse of power is as ungodly as it is undemocratic. If the security forces belong to all Nigerians and not to President Muhammadu Buhari and APC, it should not be biased in this blatant manner. It is unprofessional of the security forces to allow themselves be this debased, running APC errands when they are funded with resources that belong to all of us. They are obligated by the Constitution to be apolitical and not willing tools in the hands of the powers-that-be Once again, I say I will not be intimidated. I will stand on my feet until every injustice is upturned and the freedom and liberties of our people are restored. The thief runneth when no one pursueth. They are afraid of their shadows.” Governor Fayose said http://www.vondanews.com/police-is-using-their-helicopter-to-threaten-my-life-and-that-of-my-family-governor-fayose/

A lot of people consider Barack Obama to be the greatest President the U.S. has ever had and a new poll just gave that confirmation. The new poll saw Americans vote Barack Obama as the best president of their lifetime. The poll, which was created by the Pew Research Center, asked more than 2,000 US citizens who they thought had done the best job as president. They were also asked to give a second choice. 44% of Americans said Obama was either the best or the second-best president in their lifetime, with 33% saying the same for Bill Clinton. 32% said Ronald Regan was the best or second-best president in their lifetime. The current president, Donald Trump did not fare quite so well, with only 19% voting for him. George W Bush came in fifth place with 14 per cent of those asked selecting him as either first or second choice http://www.vondanews.com/americans-vote-barack-obama-the-best-president-of-their-lifetime/

Emeka Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker, has described the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as a “dictator” and a danger to Nigeria’s democracy. The gubernatorial aspirant in the state made the remark while accusing Okorocha of intolerance to contrary political views, freedom of choice and the right of others to aspire to any position in the state without his consent. In a statement signed by his media aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu, the former House of Representatives member said it was regrettable that the impeachment process of the state’s Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere one would have thought that “Okorocha should, at the twilight of his failed administration, be pre-occupied more with how to salvage the state he is set to leave behind without any legacy to show,” than engage in duel against perceived political enemies. According to Ihedioha, “The Deputy Governor’s obvious offence is his legitimate aspiration to run for the highest political office in the state, contrary to Okorocha’s preference of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu. “This unfortunate development is, particularly, alarming and, indeed, worrisome to all advocates and defenders of democracy and rule of law in Imo and the country at large. “It is, therefore, incontrovertible that this move, being undertaken by Governor Okorocha and Imo House of Assembly, is a colossal assault on all known democratic tenets, including freedom of choice, freedom of association and the right of an individual to aspire to any political position in the land. “The present, unfathomable and inherent danger lies in the manner Governor Okorocha is wheeling the state lawmakers to plunder the mandate of the people on flimsy, narrow-minded and self-centered basis, contrary to prescriptions of relevant sections of the constitution. “Section 143 of the constitution provides that the governor or his deputy can only be removed from office by the House of Assembly if any of them is proven to have engaged in “gross misconduct.” “The compelling question is whether aspiration to political office amounts to gross misconduct? It is unfortunate that Madumere is a victim of his own political ambition in a constitutional democracy.” He noted that it was “regrettable that Imo State is about to have a third deputy governor in Governor Okorocha’s administration, as he has, once again, demonstrated his clear intolerance to alternative political stance and viewpoint.” “As it is typical of his administration, he has, once more, dishonorably pushed Imo in the news for the wrong reasons, thus, provoking salient questions, bordering on the institutionalized misrule and impunities that have enveloped the state in the past seven years of his administration. “Governor Okorocha’s penchant for intimidation and betrayal is evidently legendary,” he added. http://www.vondanews.com/okorocha-is-a-dictator-danger-to-nigerias-democracy-emeka-ihedioha/

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Thursday picked holes on the position of President Muhammadu Buhari over the agitation for the restructuring of Nigeria, describing it as threat to national security. According to him, Buhari’s comment that those pushing for the restructuring of the country were motivated by selfish interests was very unpresidential. A statement by the Special Adviser to Dickson on Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, said the governor made the comment while delivering a lecture with the theme: “Restructuring and the Search for a Productive Nigeria,”, organised by the Faculty of Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in Osun State. The Bayelsa Governor stressed that the Nigerians in the vanguard of the campaign for the restructuring of the country were the patriotic ones who were motivated by a desire for the nation’s peace, prosperity and stability. He wondered why the President would dismiss the general quest of the Nigerian citizenry to restructure the Nigerian Federation which would not withstand the test of time in its current lopsided nature. He said, “When everybody in this country is talking about the need to restructure this country, our President, Muhammadu Buhari, made a statement that is not only wrong, but it is also faulty that cannot stand the test of time and a threat to the continued stability and prosperity and development of our country, when he dismissed outright, the notion of restructuring. “And he didn’t stop there, he went ahead to say that those who are in support of restructuring are doing so for parochial agenda. Mr. President, you are wrong. In fact the reverse is the case. The majority of Nigerians from the North, South, East, West and Middle Belt, who are making a case for restructuring are indeed the patriots of Nigeria. “We want a Nigeria that works with equal citizenship. A Nigeria for the many as well as for the few; a Nigeria that we will be proud to call home any day, that we can proudly pledge allegiance to. “The outcome of my interaction has shown that Nigerians are in support of restructuring. I am not imposing my views, I don’t believe that the Presidential system is what Nigeria needs. The system is expensive, we can’t have a productive Nigeria with the way it is structured. The government has abandoned its core responsibilities of defence and security. The constitutional issue can’t deliver a safe Nigeria. “There’s need to devolve policing powers to the people. But I’m not saying States should have Police. Our system of settling disputes is faulty. Why should a land dispute in communities be dragged to the Supreme Court? I know many things about access to justice. Instead of justice getting stronger, you see Babalawos getting stronger. The distortion of our federal structure has destroyed Nigeria.” The governor said that the time had come for a second look at the Nigerian system, stressing that even the current Presidential system of Government was too expensive and indeed wasteful for the country. Dickson said that the current arrangement where the central government would take over all responsibilities such as the judiciary, the police and others to the exclusion of the state was an arrangement in need of change. According to him, the Federal Government had not fared well even in its core responsibilities such as Defence and security as shown by the killings in the land. “I don’t believe that a Presidential system is what this country needs; it is too expensive and wasteful. It easily lends itself to abuses and are not enough checks. We cannot have a productive Nigeria the way it is structured. A Nigeria where the exclusive list is longer than the concurrent one. A Nigeria where the Federal Government is a Jack of all trade but a master of none. “A Nigeria where the Federal Government dissipates itself in areas that it has no competence, no local knowledge to deliver productivity to the extent that it has abandoned its core areas of responsibility. “And these core areas of responsibility are defense and national security. Is there anyone in this hall on any doubt as to whether the Federal Government has stood up to its primary responsibility of protecting Nigerians? So that is a failure of responsibility,” he said. The governor also took a swipe at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which he described as opaque. He said that the rule of 13 percent derivation funds to the producing states was not being implemented in the country. Dickson said the oil producing states were being subjected to whatever handouts the NNPC could offer them. The governor said that the way forward was restructuring if the citizens’ desire for security and stability was to be a reality. http://www.vondanews.com/how-buhari-threatens-nigerias-security-gov-dickson/

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday berated the Federal Government for failing to give it credit at the Thursday’s commissioning of the Abuja Light Rail Project by President Muhammadu Buhari. DAILY POST reports that Buhari had while commissioning the Light Rail System said that the completion of the project was“ a dream come true”. However, the PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiay on Thursday, expressed dismay that Buhari commissioned the project without giving credit to the party. It stated that it was unfortunate that the All Progressives Congress (APC), attempted to claim credit for the project, while Nigerians were already aware that it was conceptualised, initiated and policy-propelled by the PDP. The party added that it was unfortunate that after three years in office, the APC government could not boast of any development project conceptualised and executed in any part of the country. “The PDP usually watch with amusement whenever the President and the APC seek to claim credit for our achievements in various sectors. “However, while we understand their predicament of having nothing in their scorecard ahead of the 2019 general elections, we state that poaching the achievements of others cannot help them in anyway,’’ he said. The party urged Nigerians not to despair especially as the 2019 general elections offered them the firm opportunity to vote out APC and return the repositioned and rebranded PDP. http://www.vondanews.com/abuja-light-rail-is-our-project-pdp-blasts-buhari/

He also added that Ozigi and his company, Diamond Head Ventures & Development Company Limited kept part of their money in two accounts (bank’s name withheld). He stated that though a post-no-debit had been placed on the accounts by the provision of Section 6(5) of the Money Laundering and Prohibition Act, 2011, which had lapsed after 72 hours, the order of the interim forfeiture was sought to stop the respondents from tampering with the money. http://www.vondanews.com/2-military-officers-forfeit-n200m-stashed-in-banks-to-fg/

As the 2019 general election draws near, the UN said there is the need to reactivate the National Peace Committee, which played critical roles in ensuring a peaceful 2015 presidential election. UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres stated this in the ‘Report of the Secretary-General on the activities of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS)’, presented to the UN Security Council. The National Peace Committee followed the signing of the Abuja Peace Accord on Jan. 14, 2015 by former President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, then All Progressives Congress candidate, Muhammadu Buhari and other presidential candidates. The Committee comprised of ‘respected statesmen and women, traditional and religious leaders’ who include former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Bishop Mathew Kukah, and Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto. Guterres said his Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Mohammed Chambas, continued to support efforts to sustain peace in the region by promoting and supporting inclusive national political dialogues, constitutional and democratic reforms and transparent, credible and peaceful election. The UN chief said: “Cognizant of the politically active environment ahead of the Nigerian polls in 2019, he conducted consultations with political and religious leaders in Abuja from 18 to 21 March. “National stakeholders concurred on the need for the full reactivation of the National Peace Committee of Nigeria, which had been instrumental in facilitating dialogue prior to the country’s elections in 2015″. Through the Peace Accord, the candidates committed to “take proactive measures to prevent electoral violence before, during and after the elections”. They also expressed determination “to avoid any conduct or behaviour that will endanger the political stability and national security of Nigeria,… to place national interest above personal and partisan concern”. They further reaffirmed their “commitment to fully abide by all rules and regulations as laid down in the legal framework for elections in Nigeria”. The UN chief noted the preparedness for the 2019 presidential election and other political developments in Nigeria. He said: “In Nigeria, political developments centred on preparations for presidential and parliamentary elections set to take place in February 2019. “On 9 April, the President, Muhammadu Buhari, declared his intention to run for a second term. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar also announced his candidacy for the presidential election. “A demand made by the House of Representatives in April, following an increase in violence in the Middle Belt and the north of the country, to dismiss national service chiefs and security advisers, has not been carried out. “In addition, the decision of the National Assembly to summon Mr Buhari to provide a briefing on the increased insecurity in the country prompted a debate on whether the legislature had such power over the executive”. Guterres noted the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill, which would reduce the age limits set for candidates for elected positions, and the adoption of the Electoral Act amendment, which would regulate the general elections http://www.vondanews.com/2019-un-to-set-up-committee-speaks-on-buhari-atikus-ambition/
