Cars45 is extremely dubious. People need to understand that the company is not really there to 'help' people sell their cars. They will tell you all the reasons why your car is a scrap and why you should be ready to settle for less but I don't blame them, they are here to make money like everyone so everyone should be guided. Cars45 is not an angel, they are here to make money and they will squeeze every dime from you as much as possible.

I took a car for inspection in their office and I was disappointed. I was just nodding at everything the guy was saying and acted like a novice. Made up my mind to not drop the car, no matter what. They said the best price I could get for a clean 2003 Pontiac Vibe was 500k and even with that, I should be lucky. I left there and put the car on Jiji and buyers flooded in with their mechanics for thorough inspection and I finally sold it for 1M.

Nairaland / General / Re: Cars45 Supports Capacity Building For Nigerian Auto Journalists by ayboye: 11:19pm On Mar 16, 2021
SolaJohnson27:
In furtherance of building institutional and individual capacity for Nigerian journalists, Nigeria’s leading tech-enabled automotive trading platform, Cars45 served as a key sponsor of the 5th edition of the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) training/workshop, which was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Airport Road, Lagos, on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Since its first edition in 2015, NAJA has focused on the training of its members in trends and perspectives within the automotive industry, and how to explore the new frontiers of storytelling.

This year’s training with the theme, the role of Nigeria’s automotive journalists in Nigeria’s amid Covid-19 era provided a platform for examining issues around new storytelling formats, data and analytics as well as the optimum utilisation of social media for news reportage in the digital era.

Speaking at the training, PR and Communications Manager, Cars45, Bemigho Awala reminded journalists of the power they wield in shaping conversations, setting the agenda while stressing on the need for the media to take an active part in drawing parallels and comparisons that can culminate in policy formulation and guidance: “The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has caused widespread concern and economic hardship for consumers, businesses and communities across the globe. As the pandemic continues to disrupt business as usual and throws the economic outlook into uncertainty, the automotive industry is on the frontline. Journalists play a pivotal role in drawing right parallels and comparisons that can reflect in policy guidance and formulation.”

Speaking on some of Cars45’s interventions during the pandemic, Awala noted that the business is helping corporate firms liquidate their fleet in a bid to address liquidity challenges that they faced with.

“The disruption of many supply chains may trap cash that could otherwise be used to fund operations, or better manage third-party financial commitments. To this end. we are driving fleet liquidation across Nigeria to empower many organizations. Also, because corporates and individuals are keeping their vehicles longer due to dwindling purchasing power, our GoMechanic45 services are catering to the need of preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing to maximize the lifetime value of their vehicles. Lastly, our Autopreneur initiative is empowering Nigerians who may have lost their jobs or suffered income loss with the opportunity to earn extra income securely and conveniently.”

Key stakeholders at the event included Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Dr Boboye Oyeyemi who was represented by Corps Public Education Officer, ACM Bisi Kazeem, Executive Director, Nigeria Automotive Manufacturers Association, Remi Olaofe; General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Coscharis Group, Abiona Babarinde; Group Head, Marketing and Communications, Cars45, Oluwashola Adekoya as well as keynote speakers Senior Lecturer, Mass Communication, Covenant University, Dr. Oscar Odiboh, and Microsoft-certified technology specialist, Yusuf Jimoh Aweda.

Cars45 has continued to lead transformation and innovation in the automotive trading industry, through consumer-led and industry-driven initiatives such as its Autopreneur, Marketplace and Franchise network operations.

The way Cars45 pays journalist to post on Nairaland is quite interesting to watch. I really hope innocent people do not fall prey and lose money. Please avoid Cars45 like a plague! A word is enough for the wise.

Out of the 3 Sites which do you rate highly

1. Jiji

2. Checkii

3. cars45

I can only recommend Jiji as you can relate directly with the seller/owner of the car. The other two options are there to make money off the purchase. I have never dealt with Checkii before but my experience with Cars45 was very terrible. Just check comments and review online and you will have a good idea of their credibility.

Which platform did you previously?

Perhaps an email address where people can submit their writing attempts for correction might be useful.

As for reading and listening, I'm scratching my head to think of a suitable helpful platform.

Sorry for digging up old posts.

www.italki.com is good for written expression because there is a community section where others can review your write-ups and offer corrections as needed.

This is a very useful post, thanks @njbybrthnly for sharing these tips!

I did not do a single writing exercise while preparing for my TEF and I still managed to get C1 for that competence. The secret is to obey certain rules when writing Essay in French. These are the four things I focused on for Section B of Written Expression:

1. Draw up a plan for the essay.
2. Writing Logic .i.e. Dialectic Dissertation (more on this later)
3. Never write below the minimum required words, which is 200.
4. Clearly present your points with simple sentences with a few subjonctive tenses but avoid spelling and grammatical errors as much as possible.

Disclaimer
Please note that I did not just start learning French but I have not used the language extensively for a very long time.
These tips are not necessarily perfect but they worked for me.

1. Plan: Before I start my essay I first put down my points. The instruction usually indicates that you should support your view with a minimum of three points so don't go below that, each point per paragraph. This helps to avoid hitting a road block and wasting precious time.

2. Writing Logic: Order of thoughts is not presented the same way in French as it is in English. I will recommend you read this article (https://www.fluentu.com/blog/french/how-to-write-an-essay-in-french) for full details and especially the Dialectic Dissertation style, which is the same explained in @njbybrthnly's post quoted below. This to me is actually the big one because whoever is marking your essay will see that you truly know how the French writes.
Also use those logical connectors that @njbybrthnly mentioned and you should be golden.

3. Respect The Minimum Words: Please write a minimum of 200 words as recommended, you are allowed to continue writing at the back of the answer booklet.

4. Avoid Spelling and Grammatical Errors: It is better to express your views in simple but clear manner than making errors due to overly complex words/tenses. The subjonctive tense will also score you more point but please master how to accurately use it.

I hope I have been able to help someone here.

njbybrthnly:
Hi Scard,

Well, at first I studied several TEF writing samples which I found on YouTube (Enseignement de FLE channel especially), the TEF books and prepmyfuture.

As suggested by @Bellerin earlier, for the first section, read lots of faits divers articles online. Some popular French journals are le parisien, le monde and figaro. A simple Google search will lead you to their websites.

For the second section, prepmyfuture was indispensable to me because I observed from the examples given that the required letter had a standard format. First, unlike in IELTS, you don't write only the body of the letter, the complete letter is expected starting from the addresses. So you need to learn how the French write formal letters (unlike IELTS again, the letter is always formal unless they change the test format sometime in the future). The introduction and conclusion you can memorise embarassed and tweak it to align with the question on exam day (hope this makes sense).

For the body of the letter, learn the use of logical connectors like d'abord, de plus, d'une part...d'autre part, toutefois, en revanche, etc. You also need to learn some useful phrases that can be used to drive your point home like tout en reconnaissant que..., c'est un fait connu que, etc. Again, a simple Google search of french logical connectors will yield lots of materials

In the letter, you're to express your opinion on a particular topic. You can agree, disagree or both and you need to present at least 3 points to buttress your point (I chose to agree and disagree because I couldn't think of 3 points for or 3 points against). Either way, it is very important to note that your opinion must be stated clearly in the introduction and your points validate your opinion (what I mean is don't say you agree with the writer in your introduction, then present points that both agree and disagree in the body of the letter. Pick one and stick with it)

I think the most important thing is for your write-ups to flow logically and avoid grammatical errors. Then, of course, make sure you meet the word count.

Hope this helps. Will look for some documents I have on logical connectors and upload them later

OMG, I'm really sorry everyone. I was also supposed to share some tools I used but I've been extremely busy hence the silence.

I do read the thread once in a while, I just don't respond.

My TEF result:
Reading B2
Listening B2
Writing C1
Speaking B2

The tricky thing about TEF is no matter how good the result of the different competences look, a low score in one part can spoil the whole fun.
My B2 in Reading and Listening are CLB 6, meaning I am not able to get the extra points.

As good as this sounds, I am not sure it's the best primary platform for this kind of endeavour.

I think that for this type of coaching/assistance to work, it is best to factor in a few assumptions from the get go. A few coming to mind are:

- Primary aim is to help people learn the language so as to scale the TEF exam
- Coaching responsibility is not going to be the burden of one person but will be shared among volunteers

*Please correct me if I am wrong.

I will personally recommend a platform that encourages people to express themselves both in writing and speaking, but assigned tasks should be searchable as well so everyone can work together on the corrections et al. I have used a platform like this before, hence why I am suggesting it.

njbybrthnly, Etrange, Bellerin, Mariah, Mamaroon, Fille France, rs172 and others...please share your thoughts as well.

But seriously, I think this is a community need. If there are enough hands to comfortably take on the duty of helping others, it will no longer be considered a huge task and a lot of willing individuals will benefit from it.

One thing I have noticed so far is this; learning a language is one thing and retaining that knowledge is a whole different story. So this might be a win-win for the 'veterans' that might be willing to help out and those that want to learn.

Good morning to everyone on the TEF thread.

I'm here for guidance on how to forge ahead in my quest to enter the Canadian EE pool. I don't have a Master's degree yet and having played with the CRS Tool, I figured my point will fall short, hence the decision to go for French lessons and write the TEF exam.

My first question is, which French school would you suggest between Alliance Francaise and French Village, Badagry?

I was at Alliance Francaise (Yaba) to make enquiry, but I'd appreciate it if experienced people on the thread could advice me accordingly. I have no prior French knowledge.

The receptionist at Alliance Francaise told me that there are many programs on ground, from beginner to elementary, intermediate, advanced and so on. What level do I have to stop to be able to pass TEF and get the required band 7?

Thank you in anticipation of your great contributions.

Let me provide a few tips regarding EO, I also wrote on Nov 24 at Yaba centre. Officially you are still allowed one minute to prepare after being given the topic for each part. I guess the examiners were in a hurry, hence why they did not allow some people enough time to prepare.

When I was given my topic, the lady was about to start and I looked at her and told her I was not ready yet that I thought I am allowed 1 minute time of preparation before starting. She hesitated a bit but still allowed me to prepare before we started.

It's funny that this is happening and I hate to see Nigerian factor creeping into this as well. I wrote DELF/DALF B2 and C1 in Togo back in 2007 and there was never a doubt about the rules despite having a lot of candidates at the centre.

My advise is to just be prepared to ASK for the 1 minute time because I cannot think of any language exam that does not allow candidates to gather their thoughts before speaking. IELTS will even give you a piece of paper in case you want to make some notes to organise your thought.

Also about having a choice of 3, I hate that these examiners are not consistent with the rules of the exam. I was not even given a choice. They just gave me the paper for the first part, I prepared for a minute and we started. The same happened for the second part, I was not given any option at all.

Mamaroon:

Thanks for asking smiley

Hhmmm only the results will tell o!!!...the structure has changed. ... For EO. ..you now have a choice of 3 but no preparation time...which made me a bit nervous....for EE I think I was better prepared but they no longer allow pencil so I hope my plenty cancellations will not cause any wahala...CO and CE.....were OK....I used "idea" for unfamiliar words.....Hopefully I'll be back with good news in Dec/Jan.
