Sixteen years after the university had last experienced industrial action by any workers’ union, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Ilorin chapter have joined the ongoing national strike declared by the association.

The strike, which officially started on December 24, was in response to the sack of SSANU members who work with the universities’ staff primary schools nationwide. The sack, according to the national leadership of the association, was in response to the letters addressed to the vice-chancellors of the universities by the Incomes and Wages Commission directing them to remove personnel of the University Staff Primary Schools from the payroll.

According to the National President of the association, Comrade Samson Ugwoke, who ordered members across the 24 federal universities with staff primary schools to commence the strike, the trio of the University of Ilorin, Uthman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, had sacked their members.

Investigations by New Telegraph revealed that the UNILORIN chapter of the association has since commenced the strike, claiming that 72 of its members have since been sacked. In an interview with a member of the union, who preferred anonymity, the association decided to break the tradition having realized that it had been caged all along.

The source explained; “The university takes pride in being regarded as an institution that does not embark on strike but the fact remains that when others go on strike to advocate for something, this university is also part of the beneficiaries.

So, this time, if 70 of our members are sacked and we refused to act, then we shouldn’t be regarded as university workers.” Meanwhile, when New Telegraph called on the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Kunle Akogun, he refused to comment on the matter, claiming he was on leave.

Is it only me feeling this or do other IT Professionals feel the same way? Are we neglecting IT in this country? We are supposed to be the technology drive force of this country but it seems most of us are struggling getting our feet stable on the ground. When I talk about IT Professionals, I mean the core ones who have either certified or undergone a certain degree of training in fields like Database Administration, website and mobile apps development, Programming and software development, systems audit, network administration, hardware maintenance and engineering etc.

I need answers, what is the future of IT in Nigeria? We see entertainment and agriculture growing in the country but I feel IT is completely neglected

It is my understanding that many IT professionals go into the field to be self employed or consultants, so they are entrepreneurs by this measure, but why can't we access loans and startup credit facility to establish our own companies and build on what we already have invested lots of money in? It costs a lot of money to get trained in IT so I think we deserve some credit and empowerment from government

I need answers and suggestions please. Thank You.

woke up today and charged my phone as usual, after i put it on, it was just displaying the samsung logo..till eternity, av tried normal hard reset but it will just show me the andriod logo with a slash on it...googled it and saw it a usual problem with samsung products, can som1 put me thru the whole process of restoring a new stock rom on it nd also the direct link to download the rom.
I already av odin and android usb driver on my laptop. All i need is the process and where to download the rom... Guys pls help me out.... GT-S7582. HELP PLS

Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has remained the most followed Nigerian on Twitter, a position once occupied by the Founder and Senior Pastor of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
While Wizkid tops the list with 1.55 million followers, Oyakhilome maintains the second position with 1.36 million.


The popular pastor has not grown much on Twitter since 2013. Then, he was on top of the ladder, leading his closest rival (Wizkid) by more than 50 per cent.
In the last two years, the clergyman only gained a little over 200,000 additional fans on Twitter, while the Afro-pop singer moved up by close to a million followers.



Davido’s handle, @iam_Davido, also ‘harvested’ large followers on the site within the period, with the figure rising from 300,000 to 1.26 million.
Other entertainers that have over a million followers on the platform are D’banj (1.16 million), Don Jazzy (1.12 million), 2Face (1.07 million) and Tiwa savage with 1.03 million.


Some other stakeholders in the entertainment industry who have many followers on the social networking site, but they are yet to hit the one million mark. Such people include Peter Okoye, one half of the sensational musical group known as P-Square. He has 841,000 people on his handle, while Genevieve Nnaji, a Nollywood actress, follows with 834,000.
Basket Mouth, a standup comedian, has 776,000 followers, just as Omotola Ekeinde and Tonto Dikeh, who are both actresses, are followed by 621,000 and 559, 000 fans, respectively.


A search conducted by our correspondent on Thursday shows that entertainers have remained the most sought-after on Twitter, leading politicians and pastors by wide margins.
For instance, who would have believed that the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is followed by just a little above 200,000 people? The figure contrasts sharply with the large population of worshippers in the church worldwide.
Adeboye’s counterpart at the Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo, has 62,400 — a number very low when compared with the size of his church.


The charismatic televangelist and Pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries, Christ Okotie, still struggles to exceed a 2,000 mark.
Politicians are also far behind celebrities on the microblogging site. Dele Momodu , publisher of The Ovation , is the most popular politician on social media. Yet, he is not in the race for the top figure-pulling personalities on Twitter.
Perhaps what has helped him to gain a reasonable acceptance on the platform is his celebrity status and not because he is a politician. Even at that, he has just 387,000 followers.
It is “Just” because the figure does not match half of the ‘account’ of Don Jazzy, Wizkid, D’banj or 2face.
The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, who, understandably, joined the platform during the recent campaigns, is followed by 256,000 people.


In other parts of the world, politicians sit on top of social media tables in their respective countries. President Barack Obama, with 59.1 million followers, remains unbeaten in the United States. The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, is also in the million-follower range.
In Nigeria, Instagram, which is a photo-centric platform, is also dominated by celebrities. Most politicians and clerics are not present on the site.



However, there are indications that this trend will change in the future, as newly-elected office holders, who have seen the impact of social media during the last general elections, prepare to embrace the various platforms.



For instance, Bukola Saraki, a former Kwara State Governor and member of the Senate, had promised to increase his presence on Twitter. Pledging to keep his account active, he described the platform as the best place to “feel the pulse of Nigerians.”

Arsenal will be £3 million richer, if Barcelona beat Juventus in the Champions League final next month, thanks to a clause in Thomas Vermaelen’s transfer package.
The Belgian defender left the Emirates for Spain last year for a fee around £15 million, but is yet to play a single minute for the Catalans, having arrived with an injury.
Part of the agreement was that the Gunners will get about £3 million if Barcelona win the Champions League.
The La Liga club will get 40 winners medals to distribute to squad members and Vermaelen is likely to pick up one.

The most valuable football clubs in the world, according to Forbes, Real Madrid, still tops the list, but the English Premier League has a strong showing.



Real Madrid have retained their place as the most valuable football team in the world for a third straight year, while the Premier League boasts eight teams in Forbes’ top 20.




The reigning European champions’ value has dropped five per cent to £2.13bn this year, but their £489m revenue is the highest of any sports team in the world.
La Liga rivals Barcelona are second in the 2015 list with a value of £2.07bn and revenue figures of £431m earning more from the Champions League – £101m – than any other team for the three years up to 2014.



Manchester United closely follow the Catalan giants as the third most valuable club at £2.03bn, which is set to rise further still after the club signed a record shattering 10-year deal with Adidas that begins next season and will net the club around £72m per year.



Louis van Gaal’s men are one of eight Premier League sides in the top 20, with Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool among the top-eight most valuable clubs.




Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham complete the Premier League’s representation, following the recent £5.136bn domestic television deal.
Chelsea and Manchester City were the two clubs whose value increased the most in the last year. Former Premier League champions City saw their overall value rise 59 per cent to £905m making them the fifth most valuable club in the world.
Meanwhile Chelsea, who claimed the title on Sunday, saw their value rise 58 per cent to £898m to leave them just behind City in sixth.



Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who have won the German title for the last three years and also lifted the Champions League in 2013, are the fourth most valuable club at £1.54bn.
The Bavarians’ commercial revenue totals £260m, a figure that is second only to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
