The Leadership For Change, LFC, yesterday, flayed the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State over its derogatory statement made on the security challenges facing the state. It, however, commended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu over his efforts to curb incessant criminal activities that have greeted the state in recent times. Reacting to a statement credited to the Ondo State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Ayo Fadaka, the LFC chairman, Mr. Wande Ikuemelo said the party should stop playing politics with the lives of people living in the state. The group, at their end of the year party, described Governor Akeredolu as a performer who has done enough by uniting people of the state for all-round development, promising to assist the government to fight crimes and ensure that people disturbing the peace of the state are flushed out in due time. The statement reads: ”The PDP has made many to believe that the administration of Rotimi Akeredolu is doing nothing to address issues of insecurity in the state. This is one bad thing the party has done to us. But to put the record straight, the Governor has equipped police in the state with more patrol vehicles. We learnt about the different meetings he had with local hunters, aimed at policing the community. All these and many other steps taken by the government have started yielding good fruits.” The group also advised all security agencies in the state to gear-up in the discharge of their duties, especially during the yuletide period. The suspects before their suspension worked in the Ministry of Finance, Internal Revenue, State Information Technology Agency (SITA), among others, were arrested by the combined effort of the Police Scorpion Detectives and State Government Tasks Force led by the Senior Special Assistance to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Adebowale. Parading the suspects along with other armed robbery suspects before newsmen at the Headquarters of Ondo State Police Command along Igbatoro Road, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph gave the names of the suspects as Mrs Abiodun Oluwatoyin, Ojo Ayodeji, Omoyajowo David, Solomon Issac, Tuki Femi and Ayede John Orimisan. He said the suspects were picked from various ministries and departments of Ondo State Government for issuing fake income tax clearance, drivers’ license certificate, and issuance of fake road worthiness certificate to innocent members of the public. The police spokesman explained that investigation conducted by the police revealed that one of the suspects specialises in forging the exact signature of the Chairman of Board of Internal Revenue and issuance of fake documents to defraud unsuspecting innocent people of the state. According to the Police image make, another of the suspects was also discovered not to be a genuine staff of Board of Internal Revenue, but was fraudulently recruited and it was later discovered that the other suspects use his bank account to lodge in huge sums of money they allegedly defrauded from their victims in the state. His words: “one of them (suspects) is not a staff of Ondo State Government, but was recruited to be an accomplice in the criminal acts. His bank account is used to receive victims’ payments for the issuance of fake tax income clearance and other fake documents in the name of Ondo State Government. “This success recorded in this case was made possible because of collaborative efforts of the police and the state government and I can assure you that the suspects would soon be charged to court. “We are using this medium to warn those who are in the habit of defrauding innocent people, to desist from such act or be ready to face the full weight of the law”, he stated. Speaking to journalists on behalf of Ondo State Government, Dr Adebowale said the fraud was detected through intelligence sharing between the state government task force in conjunction with the Police Scorpion Special Squad and one of the victims was learnt to have worked for 22 years in one particular office and have been involved in a similar crime for which she was investigated. Adebowale said that the same person was understood to have returned to that same office after she had in time past arrested, investigated and released, adding that she must be using some connections to cover up her alleged criminality just as he said the state government is running a transparent government devoid of any sharp practices. He warned those in civil service who are bent on defrauding the state government to have a rethink because they will not succeed in their criminal quest to reap where they did not sow just as he commended the police for assisting in arrest of the suspects. One of the suspects who identified herself as Mrs Abiodun Oluwatoyin who spoke to The Hope denied any involvement in the fraud saying she issued a tax income clearance she collected from Board of Internal Revenue and that she could not identify which certificate or receipt that is fake. It would be recalled that The Hope had reported that some civil servants were placed on suspension over the detected fraud perpetrated by some civil servants in the state government ministries. Also paraded was a middle aged man who dressed like a mad man to allegedly extort innocent people at Benin garage along Owo Road and money in various denominations were recovered from his bag. Speaking with our correspondent, the Federal Controller of Works Mr Fred Kuti said impediments on all the junctions on the expressway were being removed to pave way for free flow of traffic, especially during the Yuletide. Kuti debunked speculations in the social media that the road would have been opened earlier, saying no date was fixed for the opening of the road earlier than December 19. The Universal Children’s Day is celebrated around the world on November 20 and the observance was established in the year 1954 to 'promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare'. "What you are doing today gives us the opportunity of what I have learnt from somewhere that I was particular about, we as adults always talk about you, we talk about you as the future of the country and the leader of tomorrow. "But, there is one thing that's missing, most people have not been talking to you. That's why we must appreciate the management staff of OSRC for bringing you here so that we can talk to you. "What this has accorded us is that, the time has come for us to talk to our children. That is talking to you and not talking about you. And that's what this government will be about as from today. " Governor Akeredolu said his government is committed to making sure that the children have better learning facilities across the state. Earlier , the one day management committee chiarman of OSRC and Orange 94.5 FM, Miss Nifemi Obalokun appreciated the Governor for his gaint stride in infrastructure development across the state. She said " It might interest you to know, Sir that in spite of all around us at this time, particularly the political manouvering and bickering over power and manipulation of public perception, we, children of Ondo State see, hear and understand the silent reforms going on around us since February 2017. "We know and are convinced for instance, that the Ondo State Government under your leadership, is avowed to ensure change and redefine the parameters of leadership in our land. " Your administration, to the admiration of all of us, has shown through its policies, actions and utterances that the destination of all its existence is the safe and sound existence of a happy family, the centre of which is the child "Your massive road and infrastructural interventions, construction of educational facilities, expansion and deepening of health programmes, outstanding worker or should I say parent friendly policy as well as the deliberate opening up of the Ondo State economy to production and job creation, prove your love and commitment to society's fertility, continuity, prosperity and preservation, all of which children represent. Mr. Governor, we are grateful." She thanked the State government, UNICEF and the OSRC and Orange FM management committee for given the children such a great opportunity. In furtherance of his administration's commitment to providing potable water supply across the three senatorial districts of Ondo state, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has rehabilitated no fewer than 750 boreholes in about 300 communities under the “Kamomi Aketi " water scheme. Lack of potable water has been a huge problem in the state even as the immediate past administration abandoned the Owena dam project initiated by the late Olusegun Agagu's administration. Finding lasting solutions to the lack of potable water supply in the state was the main reason the present government hosted the 24th meeting of the National Council on water Resources last year. At the meeting, Governor Akeredolu said “I wish to inform this august body that our decision to accept the hosting of the 24th meeting of the National Council on Water Resources at this time is borne out of the fact that potable water supply is one of the priorities of the current government in Ondo State .” The General Manager, State Rural Water Supply And Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Engr.Rotimi Oladimeji said eight local governments have been captured with 750 dysfunctional water facilities being rehabilitated. According to him, local governments that have benefited include Ifedore, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo, Owo, Odigbo, Ese-Odo, Idanre, Akoko-North, and Akure-North where the team is presently working. He affirmed that the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s directive to carry out need assessment of existing water facilities across the state with a view to providing on the spot remedial and technical solutions on the water facilities has been yielding tremendous result. The GM informed that the agency is targeting 3,000 communities across the 18 local government areas of the state. “We have an approach whereby when we get to a community, the team will immediately solve the water problem because we are moving towar the dry season and we have to prepare the ground to ensure that the people of the state have access to potable water. That is why we are working day and night to meet the target. "Formerly, we had two teams that were working on the field, but we have increased it to six , so that we can have larger coverage within the shortest time “Ideally, it is a year programme, whereby we have to cover all the local governments, but along the line, we are doing thorough inventory, need assessment, after this, we have to collate the areas that require boreholes and the areas that need expansion. “The drilling we are doing now is for those areas that critically need water. Immediately after the inventory and studies, we will get the total number where intervention are needed including the locations and then submit our report to the state governor,” he explained. Speaking on maintenance of the facilities, he said that the agency has scheduled a programme whereby the community people will be trained before handing over to them. Eleven private firms have shown interest to partner with the Ondo state bitumen exploration and Exploitation Company (BEECON) through the state Development and Investment Agency, ONDIPA to commence the exploitation and exploration of the abundant bitumen reserves in the state. Ondo state is reputed to have the second largest bitumen deposit in the world and the largest in Africa with over 42billion reserves of the highest quality. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN had made relentless efforts to attract the attention of world class firms to the natural endowment in the state. Arakunrin Akeredolu had last year hosted diplomatic communities to a dinner in Abuja to showcase the various investment opportunities in ondo state to the outside world. High commissions and embassies that were present at the dinner included Britain, China, Australia, India, Japan, Korea, Ghana, Ethiopia and South Africa. The following are the latest development in Bitumen exploration of Ondo state Government: - The first ever bitumen mining licence, giving to southwest bitumen, was achieved by this government. - It is expected that the first processed bitumen to be used on Ondo State roads will be applied in Q1 2019. The Akeredolu administration will be the first to successfully produce bitumen commercially in Nigeria. - The state government has successfully renewed its four licence blocks and is actively seeking for new investors to partner with to help develop the assets. With bitumen being produced in Ondo state, federal government will ensure that none of its road contractors imports asphalt and I am sure that many state governments will prefer to buy from Ondo state because it will definitely be cheaper here than imports from outside the country. #ODSGBitumen #AketiAtWork SOURCE: https://citadelng.com/flash-odsg-partners-eleven-private-firms-to-develop-bitumen-exploration/
