Health / Governor Akeredolu And Ondo’s State Of Health by ayfay047(f): 11:03am On Jul 29, 2019
By Fisayo Falodi

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The world body also conceives health as the ability of a biological system to acquire, convert, allocate, distribute and utilise energy with maximum efficiency.

Armed with the above definitions, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu rolled up his sleeves to introduce pragmatic policies and initiatives with the sole purpose of building a strong healthcare system aimed at promoting the general wellbeing of the people of Ondo State, as well as serve as the foundation for the all-round development of the state.

Because of his belief in the faultless, agelong maxim that “health is wealth,” the governor has broken down the barriers that had hitherto drawn back the progress of the Sunshine State to create a virile platform for comprehensive development, physical growth and social security of the entire state.

Amid approbation by the people of Ondo State, Akeredolu had in 2017 flagged off the polio national immunisation exercise at the state specialist hospital, Akure, to give assurance of a healthy, fruitful and productive energy to future generations.

Right before the dignitaries who attended the occasion, including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, senior government functionaries, religious leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations and chairmen of the 18 local government areas, among others, Akeredolu vowed that his administration would ensure that polio is kicked out of the state. Consequently, the governor directed that machinery should be put in place to ensure that all eligible children were reached by vaccinators for the immunisation exercise.

From the available record, measles, described as deadly disease, kills no fewer than 800,000 children globally every year. It was for this reason that Akeredolu waged a virulent war against the deadly infectious disease.

So, the 2018 edition of the war against measles, according to watchers of governmental activities in Ondo State, achieved a reverberating success, as about 700, 000 children between the ages of nine months and five years were immunised against the disease.

Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, reiterated the success recorded from the vaccination exercise. He was excited that none of the 203 political wards in the state was left unvisited in the campaign against the measles eradication.

The State Specialist Hospitals in Akure and Ondo city also got a huge dose of Akeredolu’s intervention as he upgraded the two health facilities to teaching hospitals. To make the environment of the specialist hospital, Akure, more conducive and friendly, all the bad roads within the hospital were equally fixed and asphalted.

In what looks like democratising funding of healthcare delivery, Akeredolu has unveiled the state’s contributory health scheme as part of plans aimed at giving quality healthcare delivery system to the residents. The idea behind the contributory healthcare scheme, according to the governor, was to pool fund from the citizens and use it to procure medicare service to those who needed it.

Akeredolu had said: “A greater percentage of our indigenes find it very difficult to access good health care largely due to poverty. Qualitative health care lies within the reach of the rich, leaving the poor to helpless and hopeless. It is on record that many have gone to the great beyond before their time because of this.

“As part of our commitment to the health of people of the state who massively voted for us, the Bill on this Contributory Health Scheme was signed into Law on 6th February, 2018, barely within 72 hours of our arrival in office.”

No doubt, all residents of the Sunshine State, irrespective of their religious and political proclivities are bound to benefit in no small measure from the scheme whose major intentions are to protect and guarantee the poor and the vulnerable physical access to quality and affordable healthcare services, among others.

Aware that the provision of accessible and qualitative healthcare and social service would not be complete without qualified personnel to drive the novel idea, the governor mandated the state Ministry of Health to recruit more medical workers.

Akeredolu’s approval for the recruitment for more health workers came during his quarterly meeting with members of the State Task Force on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunisation in Akure. The governor wanted the new health workers to replace retiring medical personnel and enhance the delivery of medical services.

A further quest to place Ondo State in the global healthy community has yielded fruitful results following the governor’s move to secure a $6 million (about N2.1 billion) worth of new medical equipment from MedShare, a United States-based non-profit organisation in Atlanta. Akeredolu ordered the 20 container loads of the new medical equipment from MedShare to strengthen the state’s healthcare sector. A few months after the state governor partnered with MedShare, Ondo State secured up to 50 container loads of equipment to equip all its hospitals and health centres with new state-of-art medical facilities.

So, it was a celebration galore on June 24, 2019 at the Central Medical Store, Akure, when Akeredolu flagged-off the distribution of the first batch of the state-of-the-art biomedical equipment to all the health facilities in the state. The four containers offloaded as of the time the governor distributed the equipment and other consumables contained over 250 sophisticated electric bed, 50 stretchers, intensive care unit beds and monitors, delivery beds, surgical instruments, incubators and infusion pumps, among others.

The attempt to ensure that no part of the Sunshine State is shortchanged in accessing the robust healthcare services gave birth to the move to approve five additional Mother and Child Hospitals for the three senatorial districts of the state.

This is besides the introduction of free healthcare service for expectant mothers and children from age zero to five years.

Critical observers labeled the various pro-health initiatives put forward by Akeredolu as laudable and the right step. Mr. Kayode Sule, a lecturer with the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, and Mrs. Olayinka Aderigbe, a private health practitioner based in the Southern Senatorial District of the state, scored the governor high. They both expressed the strong belief that with the governor’s dream of creating all-round development through investment in the health sector, Ondo State is unarguably set to tread the path of industrial growth. The observers hinged their belief on the fact that a healthy man is an undisputable asset for the development of his community. According to them, the multiplier effects of Akeredolu’s deliberate investment in the Sunshine State health sector will be unquantifiable.

Politics / Governor Akeredolu Re-inventing Ondo State by ayfay047(f): 10:45am On Jul 29, 2019
Leadership is an action, not a position. It’s what a leader does today that will make a great difference in the future of those they lead. In a lecture in December 2009, Akeredolu said no amount of electoral reform or judicial system could give Nigeria free and fair elections, if Nigerians themselves refused to take practical steps to ensure that their votes count.

On Saturday, 26 November 2016, Akeredolu challenged the people of Ondo state to come out and take their future in their hands by reminding them again, that only them and them alone can take the practical step that will ensure that their votes count. On Sunday, 27 November 2016 Akeredolu was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the Ondo State Governorship Election with a landslide victory.

According to the INEC Returning Officer Prof. Ganiyu Ambali, Akeredolu defeated two major opponents, Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to clinch the victory. With the overwhelming victory of Governor Akeredolu Odunayo Oluwarotimi, Ondo state has not stop experiencing year of happiness from the overwhelming infrastructural projects going on in the 18 local government areas of the state. In education, health and social services, agriculture and natural resource development, infrastructure and public utilities, commerce and industrial development, rural development and community extension services, culture and tourism, lands, housing and environment , women affairs and social development, information, orientation, mobilization, Youth and sport, structure of government, planning and management of the state resource etc.

Governor Akeredolu has unbeatable completed roads projects across Ondo State such as:

2.5km Hewlet, Ogbo Omo, Igbadara
Ayegunle road in Ifon.
2.5km internal roads in GRA, Owo
The dualization of adjoining roads in Owo.
Dualization of 4.3km Ikare township road,
7.1km road in Owo
The 7.8km Akure-Ijoka-A Divison road.
Iyere – ipele – idoani road
Access road in Powderize egg factory at Emure
parking lot at Akure airport
construction of Ondo Boys High school internal road network
Dualization of CBN road, akure
Construction of Subeb Sijuade road, akure;
Repair of approach slabs of Alape
Aboto bridge in ilaje.
Dualization of A Division to ijoka is 8.14km.
The Oke -Alabojuto /Ikare dualisation

All these roads projects have been completed among others.

The Oke -Alabojuto /Ikare dualisation road project is a breath taken road project which has been abandon by previous government. Yet, the works continue unabated across the state. 3km Okelisa and Bajare roads in Idanre; Oke-Ogba road in Akure, Alagbaka-High Court-SIB road also in Akure; Gaga road in Aluke; Igbaraoke-Ibuji road; Isharun township roads and Bolodunro-Fagbo road in Ondo town. 1.5km Abusoro road in Akure; 2.0km Iwalewa-Alafiatayo-Hospital-Oshinle road in Akure has been awarded. Fiwasaye-Airport street light project is also ongoing. Sabomi-Ajagba road is at 95% completion, while work is ongoing on Police Station road in Ore. Work has also reached 97% completion on Okitipupa-Ayeka-Irele road.

Schools across Ondo state are now safer for our children to study with about 500 primary schools constructed and the renovation of over 200 primary schools across the state with free school feeding for children in primary schools.
Akeredolu has carried out renovation of libraries to improve reading culture among students and the re-introduction of science and technology in secondary schools and renovation of all secondary technical schools including upgrading and equipping. Consistent training of teachers for adequate capacity building is being carried out to mention a few.

Akeredolu achievements are unequaled compared to his predecessors.

In terms of worker’s welfare, he has performed far better than Governors before him. He met about seven months’ salary arrears and has cleared six months remaining outstanding. Since he came into office, he has never owed any worker, he has been paying monthly salaries as at when due, and he made worker’s welfare his priority.

The tertiary institutions are better funded. It is the same in the health sector and everybody can feel what the governor is doing. I believe the AKETI DREAM has been a great success and filled with unprecedented achievements.

Governor Akeredolu determination to strengthen and improve the health facilities and the well-being of Ondo State people, has brought about the distribution of multi-million naira lifesaving medical and laboratory equipment to all hospitals and Health Centers with new state of art medical facilities from MedShare, a U.S.-based non-profit organization in Atlanta which worth $6 million (about N2.1 billion).

The governor ordered 20 containers load of new medical equipment from MedShare to strengthen the state’s healthcare. Akeredolu said the partnership with MedShare would see the state securing up to 50 containers load of equipment for all hospitals and health centers.

In an interview before the election that produced Akeredolu as the 18th Governor in Ondo State. He said, he had become well known and respected as president of the bar, and described himself as a progressive. If elected, his priorities would include agricultural development, fish farming for export, improvements to education, and jobs for youths and improved roads. He would provide free education and primary health care. He was in favor of increased subsidies and greater local control over public spending.

Governor Akeredolu is the first Governor in Ondo state who has been prudent with the resource of the state, while other governors across the country are buying brand new vehicles for their aids and political appointees. Governor Akeredolu saw the need to renew numerous broken and unserviceable vehicles at significantly low cost compares to the acquisition of brand new vehicles. This prudent characteristic of Akeredolu has helped save the state’s resources and put a stop to wastage. He has put an end to the practices of abandoning serviceable vehicles to buy new ones.

Akeredolu has not seized to promote his vision for the Ondo state people. He kept a clear vision of where Ondo State should be in the nearest future. His promise and work has stayed connected to his shared strategic goals of improving the standard of living for the people of Ondo state.

In terms of managing risk. Successful leaders are always scanning the horizon for risks as well as opportunities—or for the two in combinations, as they often are. Akeredolu has Learn the art of constantly weighing costs and benefits, probabilities and prospective outcomes.

Akeredolu creativity of finding solutions around the hard economy reality of the state has created jobs for artisans once again in the state as most workers were hired within the state.

Akeredolu accomplishments as governor of Ondo state have been universally acknowledged. Recently he emerged chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum. Akeredolu became Chairman at a Special Security Meeting of Governors from the South West region. The meeting was held to address the growing spate of insecurity in the South West Region.

Nigeria is in need of a good leadership model that can leverage on the abundance of natural and human resources the country is blessed with to initiate transformation, social and economic changes that West Africa will be proud of. This gift of leadership has the Good Lord bless the Ondo State people with.

It is remarkable and pertinent to mention that at least on two occasions Akeredoulu Oluwarotimi has attested to the virtues of servant leadership as originally propounded by Robert K. Greenleaf. First at an event hosted by OSRC TV ‘tagged’ EVENING WITH THE GOVERNOR in June 2019, Governor Akeredolu stated his service and stewardship to his people, thereby giving his people the platform to asked questions about his two years in office and his initiatives and also bring to the attention of the Governor the areas where the Governor has not been completely active.

“Akeredolu said; let us focus on our strength and skills as clear indications of what we can do as a people. The leader is only one man. But with your support and cooperation Ondo state will become a state to envy in Nigeria”.

Second, as a speaker in the south west security summit held by the SW Governors Forum in June 2019, the Chairman, Akeredolu described a good leader as one capable of showing clear sensibility to the feelings of the led about critical issues’ adding that there should be no disagreement in the aspiration for service, if altruism is the focus. Our seeming difference, considering political platforms, should not stand in the way of commitment to promote the collective well-being of our people.

Governor Akeredolu Oluwarotimi Odunayo of Ondo state is the most social and scandal free governor we have in Nigeria. He has a benevolent heart towards people and is going the extra mile to transform Ondo state into a 21st century city. Something others before him failed to do. Failed woefully! He is jovial; he is a governor of life indeed! The first Governor in the history of Ondo State to appoint physical challenged persons as Special Adviser.

Akeredolu managing priorities is next to none. ‘The better you can prioritize the things you have to do, the better you can focus your efforts on the things that matter most. Without clear priorities, you’ll end up spending significant time and energy on unimportant tasks’.

Agriculture / Re: ‘semi-mechanized Abattoir Boosts Ondo’s IGR’ by ayfay047(f): 10:37am On Jul 29, 2019
OndoUpdates:
Ondo State Semi Mechanised Abattoir has started boosting the state IGR since it commenced operation this year to a tune of N1.5million naira monthly.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Asiwaju Adegboyega Adefarati made this known in a chat with The Hope in Akure.

Adefarati said the Abattoir is now functioning and slaughters prepare an average of 70 cows per day since it commenced operation this year.

He said the Abattoir has become a central slaughtering slab for the Akure South and North local government areas saying that other slaughtering slabs are not allowed to operate again.

The decision to concentrate on the Central Abattoir, Adefarati said is not because of the IGR but to ensure that wholesome meat is processed for the citizens of the state.

” We do not allow any other slaughtering slab within the two local government areas because we want to maintain the hygiene of the meat for human consumption.

A Veterinary doctor must inspect the cows before slaughtering them to ascertain whether they are fit for consumption to provide wholesome meat to the people of the state”, he said.

He disclosed that the state has begun to plan for the establishment of such abattoirs within the Southern and Northern senatorial districts in the state.

Speaking on the development, the Director of the State Veterinary Department of the State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Adebayo Ehinmowo declared that there had been no revenue loss since the Abattoir commenced operation.

Ehinmowo said each animal is slaughtered at the rate of N2,000 as against the former N500 indicating that the state now gets more than 50 percent of what it used to get before.

He said there are about 10 sharing points outside the Abattoir for those who may want to purchase parts of the animal like the leg, hand, head or to buy half or quarter part of the animal.

He urged people to patronize the Abattoir which he said is not only economical, but ensuring that the meat are good for human consumption.

He also encouraged those for ceremonial slaughtering of cows to make advantage use of the development which he said would be easier for them, rather than buying and transporting the cow home for slaughtering.

Speaking on the development, the state Chairman of the National Cattle Butchers Union of Nigeria, Alhaji Asimiyu Tella said they have been able to cue in to the system.

He urged government to help in reduction of the payment which he observed is on the high side saying that cattle business is not encouraged at present.

“Government should help us reduce the payment for slaughtering to N1,000 instead of N2,000 because market for cow business is not encouraging now”, he said.

It would be noted that the Abattoir had been in construction for over twenty five years, but now made functional by the Akeredolu-led administration.

Politics / ‘South-West Leading In Developmental Strides’ by ayfay047(f): 10:46am On Jul 26, 2019
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has revealed that the South West region in the country had taken the lead in various developmental achievements in Nigeria and Africa and described the feat as first of its kind in Africa.

The governor made the revelation while receiving the Alumni of the Western Nigeria Television (WNTV), in his office, Akure, the Ondo state capital. The team was led by Ambassador Yemi Farounwi.

Akeredolu who specifically lauded the establishment of the first Television Station in Nigeria and that Africa at large, stressed the South West must not lose sight of its place in the history of development and its monumental contributions to the development of the country and Africa in general.

He noted that the South West had taken the lead in various developmental achievements and applauded the move by the Alumni to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Television broadcast in Nigeria and the entire Africa.

The governor lauded the alumni for ensuring that history were put in the right perspective, describing it as a worthy course.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Ambassador Yemi Farounwi, said the WNTV’s alumni were coming together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Television broadcast in Nigeria and Africa as a whole as a way of putting history in its proper perspective.

He noted that such celebration, which would highlight the achivements made by the Old Western Nigeria, would also motivate the younger generation to do more.

Farounwi insisted that the lack of history must not be allowed to distort the monumental contributions of the South West towards the development of the country.

Politics / HIGHWAY PATROL: Akeredolu Orders Arrest Of Fulani Vigilante Group by ayfay047(f): 9:16am On Jul 26, 2019
Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has ordered the Police to effect the arrest of anyone or group which parades itself as Fulani Vigilante in any part of the state.

Information and Orientation, commissioner Donald Ojogo said this in a statement issued in Akure to state government position of the vexed issue.

Criticism had trailed the report of Fulani herdsmen patrolling the highway as vigilantee group.

Ojogo said the state government “has witnessed with utmost dismay, an orchestrated campaign in respect of the above subject matter.

“The intention of the sponsors and their echoers is undoubtedly, to discredit the administration of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and ostensibly, incite the people against the Ondo State Government.

“lt is pertinent to recall that upon the circulation of the story in the social media about the purported formation of an armed vigilante group by the Miyetti Allah, Governor Akeredolu was swift in his reaction to the development.

“Not only did he disown the move, if at all. He indeed ordered the Police to effect the arrest of anyone or group which parades itself as Fulani Vigilante.

“The Governor’s position was decisive even as it was pointedly consequential.

“At the risk of repeating himself, Governor Akeredolu reaffirmed the position of Government on Tuesday, July 23 when he was accosted by reporters who sought further information on the matter.

“The leadership of the Miyetti Allah in the State has equally disowned the report and has even provided further insights into actionable steps to deal with whoever conducts self in a manner that do not conform with the position of Government.

“Succinctly, therefore, the scheming media spins on the issue can only be the handiwork of divisive elements and their collaborators whose defeated desire is to demarket the Ondo State Government through unfounded claims and gross mischief.

He said that “The position of Governor Akeredolu on this matter stands. Government will not allow armed Fulani Vigilante in any part of Ondo State.

The Story Of MONSURAT TOYIN IGBIRA, The Most Notorious Drug Baroness In Africa
https://www.nairaland.com/4221967/story-monsurat-toyin-igbira-most#up

Texxtile merchant, Monsurat Asabi, popularly known in the Nigerian social circuit as Toyin Igbira, has died of ovarian cancer, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV learnt that she was aged 56.

The mother of three reportedly passed on in the early hours of Saturday at a private hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

A toast of Fuji musicians, Igbira was a school dropout who later became a drug dealer.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested her in 1999 at the age of 36 after years of extensive undercover anti-narcotic operations.

She was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a two-count charge of unlawfully dealing in 5 kg of heroin and sentenced to two years in prison.

Igbira was re-arrested at the Lagos airport in 2002 with 72 wraps of a substance suspected to be heroin.

An official of the NDLEA said she had evaded arrest for previous drug trafficking offences.

“Igbira was about to board a plane to the United States when she was arrested,” an NDLEA spokesperson said.

He said the woman, who had been on the drug agency’s wanted list since 1997, excreted 72 wraps of suspected heroin weighing 675g.

“This particular arrest led to chains of arrests that unravel the most notorious drug cartel,” he added.

Many drug couriers have named her as the source of their wares.

She was declared wanted in 2007 after one Mohammed Jamiu was arrested during the screening of passengers on a Virgin Nigeria flight from Lagos to London at the Lagos airport while attempting to export cocaine which he ingested.

Jamiu claimed during interrogation that the substance he ingested was given to him by Igbira who was then at large.

Sources said Igbira was diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost 10 years ago and her search for cure took her to hospitals in Europe and America.

She went into partial remission but suffered a relapse last year, prompting doctors to predict she may not live beyond February 2019.

Health / Arogbo In Ondo State To Get General Hospital by ayfay047(f): 10:10am On Jul 19, 2019
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has assured the people of Arogbo and other Ijaw speaking towns in Ondo State of his administration’s commitment to capture in next year’s budget a plan to build a general hospital in Arogbo town.

This is coming as the governor vowed to ensure that all repentant militants who have laid down their arms and ammunition and embraced peace in the riverine area of the state are incorporated in the Federal Government’s Amnesty Programme.

Akeredolu spoke when a delegation from Arogbo-Ijaw in Ese-Odo Local Government Area led by the Paramount ruler of the kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Zacheaus Egbunnu paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The governor equally assured the people of Arogbo-Ijaw kingdom that his administration would continue to make a case for marine police presence to further strengthen peace and security in the kingdom.

He noted that efforts by his administration, particularly in securing the freedom of the kidnapped Senior Secondary School students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe, has further returned peace into the riverine areas of Lagos and Ogun States.

Akeredolu explained that his administration was taking necessary steps to ensure urgent incorporation of the repentant militants from the state into the Federal Government Amnesty programme, expressing optimism that very soon, the repentant militants would be incorporated.

The governor also urged the monarch to continue to appeal to youths in the town on the need to maintain peace and shun all forms of violence. He revealed that during the last National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, the issue of marine police was adequately discussed and promised to continue to push for it to curb insecurity on the waterways in the state.

He disclosed that paucity of funds hindered his government from attending to so many needs of the people in the rural communities, just as he promised the delegation that he would do his best to influence a general hospital to Arogbo-Ijaw kingdom through the Office of the Vice President or put it in next year’s budget of the state.

He also informed the delegation that his government would continue to put pressure on the management of the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to ensure that they complete all the abandoned projects including Agadagba/Arogbo overhead bridge before embarking on new ones.

Earlier, Oba Zacheaus Egbunu, who visited the governor for the first time since he ascended the throne of his forebears about ten months ago, appreciated him for making his ascension to the throne a peaceful and successful one, adding that the development has put an end to insecurity in the kingdom.

He equally lauded the governor for appointing a good number of Ijaws into his government, saying this has proved that the Governor has genuine love for the people of the area.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday, hailed the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, over his enhancement of the professionalization and recognition of teaching profession in the state.

"The Secretariat of the NBA is named after you because of your contribution to the legal profession before, during and after your tenure as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association

"For those of us in the education sector, we appreciate your intervention in solving some protracted disputes affecting tertiary education in Ondo state."

Politics / Kogi Guber: Fresh Crisis In APC As 22 Aspirants Oppose Indirect Primary by ayfay047(f): 9:19am On Jul 09, 2019
Crisis is brewing in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as 22 aspirants for the governorship ticket of the party in Kogi State have kicked against the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) to adopt the indirect primary mode for the selection of its candidate for the November 16 election in the state.

In a petition addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the aspirants warned that the indirect primary option could result in a repeat of the party’s experience in Zamfara State in the 2019 elections.

The APC had won the governorship election in Zamfara State, but eventually lost the seat to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to internal crisis arising from party primaries.

The NWC had, last Friday, adopted indirect primary mode for the selection of its governorship candidate in Kogi State.

However, at a news conference held in Abuja yesterday, the aggrieved aspirants urged the NWC to rescind the decision as it might not augur well for the party.

Comrade Mohammed Ali, who read the petition on behalf of the group, argued that as a party committed to the enthronement of popular democracy, the resort to indirect primary would amount to muzzling the wish of the generality of the members of the party and victory for a merchandised political culture in Kogi State.

Ali disclosed that the group decided to take their case to the NWC after it held an emergency meeting of all the governorship aspirants in Kogi State on Sunday, 7th July, 2019.

He said that their review of the NWC’s decision viz-a-viz the aspirations of the party showed that the indirect party primary had “serious negative consequences” for the fortune of the party in Kogi State.

“We regret to observe that such decision was taken without adequate consultation with critical stakeholders of the party in the state, especially the governorship aspirants on the platform of the party and other contending groups in the polarized structure of the party in the state.

“The decision to adopt an indirect primary by the NWC is fraught with severe implications. First, contrary to the information given to the NWC, there are suits pending in an Abuja court seeking to determine the authentic executive of the party in the state. As a matter of fact, at the last hearing, the suit was adjourned till October 2, 2019.

“Second, arising from the pendency of the various suits to determine the legitimate party executive council in the state, the use of any factional delegate list may amount to an exercise in futility. And lastly, we may have unconsciously set booby-trap for our party and the stage for the replay of the unfortunate Zamfara scenario.

“We observe that as a party committed to the enthronement of popular democracy, the resort to an indirect primary in the Kogi State chapter of the APC amounts to a muzzling of the wish of the generality of our party members, a victory for merchandised political culture and a deference to Governor Yahaya Bello’s wish to be the judge in his own case.

“It is on record that Bello’s factional party executive council members, which he is angling as delegates for the indirect primary, are peopled by his political appointees and loyalists who are on the payroll of the state government.

“It is also instructive to note that nearly all the 21 local government party chairmen are Governor Yahaya Bello’s coordinators. To subject other aspirants to this hostile political mechanism, in the name of indirect primary, amounts to a clear case of political ambush, gross act of injustice and a trust betrayed.

“Arising from these cogent observations, we categorically reject the indirect primary adopted by our party for Kogi State. We urge the national leadership to set up an independent caretaker management committee without delay with the sole mandate of providing a level playing ground for a popular direct primary involving all card-carrying members,” the statement said.

Among the aspirants at the press briefing were: Aliyu Zakari-Jiya, Dr. Tim Diche, Alhaji Yusuf Haruna, Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd.), Alhaji Mohammed Audu, Alhaji Mohammed Ali, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, Alhaji Jibrin Haruna Mohammed.

Also in attendance were: AIhaji Yakubu Mohammed, Sheik Ibrahim Jibril, Chief Momoh Obaro, Prince Sani Shuaibu, Comrade Gowon Egbunu, Prince Sanni Shuaibu, Prince Mustapha Mona Audu, Alhaji Ahmed Aruwa, Gen. Akpa Patrick. Engr. Sunday Edibo, Khalid Adams and Yusuf Ali.

Meanwhile, supporters of Governor Bello and that of other aspirants stormed the party secretariat yesterday to protest for and against the indirect primaries decision.

Politics / Atiku Vs Buhari: We Transmitted Election Results Electronically – INEC Officers by ayfay047(f): 9:06am On Jul 09, 2019
A Petitioners’ Witness 2 in the ongoing Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, Peter Uzioma Obi, yesterday, confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) transmitted the result of the February 23 presidential election electronically.

Obi, however, told the tribunal that it will be wrong to say the results of the presidential election were not transmitted electronically.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the said election, Atiku Abubakar and his party are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the election.

The witness, who told the tribunal that he functioned as Registration Area Technician at a ward level in Rivers State during the election, stated that INEC trained him and others to transmit the results of the poll.

Obi, who earlier adopted his witness statement on oath which he deposed to on April 26, as his evidence-in-chief, said this while fielding questions from INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN), under cross-examination.

“You are not supposed to transmit results because you are not a presiding officer,” Usman asked.
Responding, Obi said: “You are wrong sir. INEC trained us to transmit results. I was not a presiding officer. I was not a polling agent. I was a registration area technician appointed by INEC. I was trained by INEC.”

Being cross examined by Buhari’s counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Obi said he was not aware of the guidelines used by the INEC for the presidential election but, however, noted that there was a specific guidelines booklet issued for his roles as a Registered Area Technician (RATECH).

According to him, “I was a RATECH in charge of the use of card reader.”

Obi added that he was not aware of Olanipekun’s claim that there was no designation in the INEC’s guidelines as Registration Area Technician.

He stressed that he operated at the ward level with the Local Government Technician and the State Technician as his superiors.
He further added that he was not stationed at any polling unit during the election, but visited the ones where his attention was needed. He said he visited seven polling units in the course of the election.

Under cross examination by APC’s counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Obi said the lawyer was not entirely correct to say that it was the duty of the Presiding Officer “to do accreditation, verification authentication, and collation at the Poling Units.”

“You are not entirely correct sir, because we were told at the training that the Assistant Polling Officer 1 was in charge of accreditation.

“I did not serve as APO1 and I did not serve as the Presiding Officer,” he stated.

He said he did not act on his own, contrary to Fagbemi’s suggestion.

“I have a letter to show that I was shortlisted.”

Similarly, Adejuyitan Olanikan, another acclaimed Registered Area Technician employed by INEC, said results were transmitted to the commission’s server, but failed to state how that was done.

Meanwhile, Petitioners’ Witness 5, Mohammed Tata, who served as an agent of PDP in Jigawa State, had alleged before the tribunal that he was compelled under duress to sign result of the presidential election in his polling unit.
The witness equally told the tribunal that he was threatened to either sign a copy of the result or have his name removed as a beneficiary in the N-Power scheme.

Under cross examination by INEC counsel, Usman, Tata said: “I was harassed and intimidated to sign the result sheet under duress. I was told that if I refuse to sign, my name will be removed from the N-Power Programme.”
When asked if he was dissatisfied that President Buhari and the APC scored over 700 votes in his polling unit, the witness said: “There was no score because there was no election.

“I am a Muslim. I believe in destiny and what God decides will happen. Whether PDP wins or the APC, I don’t have a problem with that. All I want is that I need justice in my country.

“I don’t care whether my party won or lost, but I am not happy about what happened.”

When asked how many parties participated in the election in his polling unit, Tata said: “I don’t know because there was no election.”
Asked if he was given a copy of the result, he said: “No, I was not given because there was no election.
“I followed due process by reporting how I was harassed to sign the result, but the culprits were neither arrested nor prosecuted.”
When APC’s counsel, Fagbemi, asked why he did not mention names of those that harassed him in his statement on oath, the witness said it was “for security reasons.”

“I am still working with the N-Power because I signed the result. It is because I did what they wanted me to do,” Tata stated.

Earlier, the Petitioners’ Witness 1, Buba Galadima, who is a former ally of Buhari, said he voted in his polling unit and, thereafter, went to monitor the election across the country from the PDP situation room in Abuja.

He said the election was marred by malpractices to favour the second respondent.

He also said Buhari was obliged to make public his West African Examination Council result, adding that he (Buhari) failed to annex the document on his nomination form.

Galadima told the tribunal that he fell out with the President because of injustice in his administration and not because he was not appointed a minister.

In addition to injustice, Galadima said that lack of inclusiveness and failure of the administration to secure Nigeria, also added to why he left the camp of the President.

Galadima made the submissions under cross examination, after he had adopted his statement on oath.

Olanipekun to Galadima: “You fell out with the 2nd respondent (Buhari) because he did not make you a minister in 2015.

Galadima responded: “No. You should know that I fought all the previous governments since 1999 because of injustice. We made good promises to Nigerians, including justice, inclusiveness, and to secure the country, which he has failed to do. It has always been part of my characteristics to fight injustice. I supported Buhari in the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 election cycles until the 2019 election.”

Galadima, however, explained that he stopped supporting him when issues around his qualification were raised.

“I wanted to support an educated candidate who can provide good governance for the country,” he said.

However, while being cross-examined by Fagbemi, Galadima said he was aware that there is no registered party called the Reformed APC, but maintained that he was still the chairman of the group.

Meanwhile, he said he remained a member of the APC since he had not been sacked.

“I am still a member of APC. I have not been sacked. We are in court. I don’t want to be subjudice.

“I’m not a member of PDP, but we have a memorandum of understanding with the PDP to produce God-fearing, good and educated leader,” he stated.

Much earlier in the day, Buhari had objected to the admission of his form CF001 which contained his personal data submitted to INEC, for the February 23 Presidential election.

Olanipekun, while objecting to the admission of the form on behalf of the President, however, said that his reason would be made public at the address stage.

The petitioners had tendered the form as part of efforts to establish their petition against Buhari on his qualification for the last presidential election.

Apart from the form, the petitioners also tendered the final result of the election signed by Professor Yakubu Mahmood, which the tribunal admitted as exhibit.

Also tendered and admitted as exhibit are documents containing total number of voters in the INEC register and the number of collected permanent voters’ cards for the elections.

Atiku’s lead counsel, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) also tendered six newspaper publications and 10 press statements issued by INEC in respect of the election.

About 6,806 mainly election result sheets from Kano and Zamfara states were tendered and admitted by the tribunal.
So far, the petitioners have been able to call six witnesses.
Hearing in the petition continues today.
