PoliticsPRESS STATEMENT: 2018 Ondo State Reordered Budget Is Constitutional by ayfay047(op): 10:44am On Nov 16, 2018
The attention of the State Government has been drawn to a press statement by Honourable Olugbenga Araoyinbo which condemned the 2018 Ondo State Reordered budget, described it as "unconstitutional" and claimed that it was the cause of the failed attempt to remove the current Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. David Bamidele Oloyeloogun and his deputy, Iroju Ogundeji.

Baleful and vengeful, the statement speaks volumes of orchestrated mischiefs and calculated malfeasance all in the name of filthy politics.

I wish to put on record that it is not unusual for budget to be reordered.

This was done here in Ondo State by previous administrations and it is being done in other states in the Country. Even the Federal Government, recently, had to reorder the 2018 budget in line with some prevailing fiscal realities

What we have done now and always is in tandem with our avowed commitment to the welfare of people of Ondo State. No amount of denigrations and aspersions will halt the wheel of progress our state is currently experiencing under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN as the Governor of Ondo State.

The current reordering budget excercise among other reasons had to be done in anticipation of the release of recent Paris club refund, which is to be used to pay arrears of workers salaries and pensions of retirees in the terms agreed with labour leaders.

The bill was passed to the house a couple of weeks after the Federal Government made public the various amounts due to each State as Paris Club refund.

Surprisingly, it was left unattended to by the House, even before the recent failed attempt to effect a leadership change in the Assembly.

Araoyinbo's statement clearly advertises crass legislative ignorance and a morbid desire to mislead the public.

Notwithstanding the heist and hate campaigns, the truth is that the budget size remains unchanged and any enlightened person knows that budget re ordering is a fiscal instrument used for re-allocating funds from non-performing heads to more active heads without increasing the budget size.

From the foregoing, it is clear that the state government hasn't done anything illegal. Rather, we have continued to hoist the flag of transparency in governance while pursuing our top agenda to transform Ondo State.

Nairaland GeneralSalary Arrears Will Be Paid This Week - Akeredolu by ayfay047(op): 6:30am On Nov 14, 2018
Ondo State governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has said that part of the salary arrears of the state civil servants will be paid this week.

He said he would not deviate from his administration’s avowed commitment to the promotion of workers’ welfare.

The governor said in spite of the limited resources at the disposal of the government, he had not hesitated to strive to meet the ever-increasing needs of the people of the state.

It will be recalled that Akeredolu, who has been up-to-date in the payment of workers’ salaries since he assumed office, inherited seven months unpaid salaries from his predecessor of which he has already paid four months.

He said: “It gladdens my heart that despite the quantum of development projects being embarked upon by our administration in the face of the obvious lean resources, the welfare of public servants have been given its pride of place.”

Akeredolu spoke on Tuesday in Akure while presenting N403 million cheques to owners of properties affected by the construction of dual carriageways in the state.

Beneficiaries of the cheques came from Akure, Ore, Ikare and Owo.

The governor, who said the era of abandoned projects in the state has gone for good, hinted that no one or section of the state would be forced to bear unreasonable burden.

He said: “This why our government is ensuring that all those whose properties are affected by our development activities are duly compensated.

“The quantum of money we are paying today is demonstration of our good intention to the people whose properties were affected one way or the other.

“The payment is to make it easy for them to relocate, acquire new properties and continue life without hardship or encumbrances.”

Akeredolu added that since he assumed office, his administration had spent N9 billion on construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of roads across the state.

He said: “Every sector of our state has been touched positively and we have resolved to keep delivering on our electioneering promises to our people.

“This is signposted by the series of projects and programmes, completed and ongoing throughout the state.

“Let me reiterate that our administration is irrevocably committed to the successful completion of all ongoing projects. All projects awarded will be duly paid for on satisfactory completion.”
TV/MoviesWhy Channels, CORE TV, AIT Correspondents Were Sacked From Ondo by ayfay047(op): 7:40pm On Nov 12, 2018
Contrary to the claims that the Ondo State government has barred the Channels TV, CORE TV and AIT Correspondents from covering government activities in the state, the state government has said it has not barred or expelled any Journalists.

Commissioner for information and orientation, Yemi Olowolabi said no one has expelled any reporters from the government office, adding that the state government would officially write their station if it would disengage them.

The commissioner noted that the state government maintain a robust relationship with these media stations, stressing that the government of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has continued with the agreement the previous government had with the AIT on the construction of a broadcast house, despite the paucity of fund.

The information commissioner said that the reporters in question have since refused to cover government activities, despite the government providing conducive environment for them and also giving them allowances at the governor's office.

He accused the reporters of being ‘lazy’ saying the government is also not too ‘buoyant’ to pay the quarterly coverage fees to their station.

“They are called dedicated service and I started it when I was CPS 14 years ago. I brought the AIT in, I brought the ITV and Channels. We pay them quarterly for news coverage

"Now when we resumed, we found out that the previous government was owing them over 300 million. So before commissioners were appointed, the ministry of information had signed an agreement with all of them that it wasn’t this government that owed you, but they negotiated 50% cut, meaning we will pay them 50% of the total sum, and they all agreed

“We have been paying that debt since I resumed. But we have not renewed any of these contracts, and I also suggest that we should clear what we owe, rather than accruing another hundreds of millions of debt.

“So we had an understanding with them that we will pay what we owe, but you will continue to use our stories. To some of the stations, we have paid some 10 million, others 20 million like that, we are paying them on instalmental basis

"We have paid twice, it remains just one tranche to clear the debt. Now, based on this understanding, TVC uses our story, Galaxy does, ITV does, but Channels has refused to air anything from Ondo state except it’s negative, unless we pay all the debt. AIT has also refused to use any of our stories.

“So my understanding is that upon the fact that we give them allowances every month, we support them, we create a conducive environment for them to operate, yet they don’t use stories

"In fact, they don’t even cover events. No private broadcast station covers any story from me, except it is negative news

“I just told them to go and find something else to do, rather than sit in governor’s office morning till night doing nothing. So nobody has expelled them. If we are expelling them, we will write to their stations formally. But for them to sit dowm doing nothing, I think it’s most unfair to themselves, that’s my position. ”

Before Akeredolu's intervention, residents of the area have lost hope in any government action on the deplorable state of their road. After series of letter to past governments, they resorted to prayer.

PoliticsAkeredolu, A Beacon Of Hope For Akure Community by ayfay047(op): 1:16pm On Nov 08, 2018
June 22, 2018 was a sad day for no fewer than 76 traders at a section of the Oja Oba Akure, the Ondo State capital. Like a thief in the night, whose sole aim is to kill and destroy, a midnight fire broke out at the market and destroyed properties worth several millions of Naira, leaving the victims in sorrow.

On that fateful day, the world seemingly came to an end as most of the victims who lost their various sources of livelihood. For them, the future looked bleak with no hope of returning to business.

The victims wailed and groaned over the unfortunate disaster. This is because many of them were already owing many micro-credit agencies – where they had taken loans to engage in business before the incident occurred.

But hope first appeared for the victims when Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) visited the scene of the disaster to sympathise with the fire victims and promised to assist and return them to business.

The governor recently made good his promise to lift the victims out of the gloom and return them to business when he mobilized resources with the sole aim of restoring hope to the seemingly hopeless victims.

Depending on the degree of their individual loss, the state governor, represented by his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, shared N26 million among the distraught fire victims. This was beside a few other mollifying measures promised them by the governor who was referred to as “Our Hope” by the beneficiaries of the cash gift. The least given out was N200, 000, while others got N500, 000 each.

At the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, where the money was shared among the fire victims, the deputy governor said it was not in Governor Akeredolu’s character to ignore the very people he swore to protect, especially when they were distressed.
He told them that though the money might not be able to repay all that were lost in the inferno, he expressed optimism that the state government’s gesture would provide succor for them.

The deputy governor said: “We may not be able to repay all that is lost but I am very sure this will bring succour, like a palliative.

“The ultimate responsibility of the government is to protect the lives and properties of the people and to be responsible to their yearnings one of which is to come to their aid in case of emergency or disaster.”
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, who led the beneficiaries to the Cocoa Conference Hall to collect the cash gift, did not hide his excitement over the government’s gesture.

The monarch hailed the state government’s gesture as commendable.
Oba Aladelusi was particularly delighted that in spite of the paucity of fund the state government is battling with, Governor Akeredolu still considered it necessary to cough out N26 million to put smile on the faces of the fire victims.

The monarch said the beneficiaries would be grateful for the intervention because the money was not a repayable loan, but an intervention meant to empower the victims.

He said: “Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will be not be forgotten for this laudable decision. Yes, the victims that thought that they had lost the sources of their livelihood can now go back to their various business with renewed hope and smile.”

The disbursement of the N26 million cash gift was described as transparent by the beneficiaries who praised the governor for rekindling their hope.

Speaking on behalf of the fire victims, Mrs. Bisi Bakare, thanked the governor for wiping away their sorrow. She was particularly full of praise that the process of compiling the list of the victims up to the payment of the recoupment was transparent.

A renowned Akeredolu’s critic, Mr. Williams Ogunbadejo, who is always critical of the governor’s administration’s, commended the governor for not keeping the victims waiting endlessly.
Ogunbadejo, a social scientist, expressed the belief that that the gesture would improve the economic lives of the victims and their families.

He said: “I have to be honest, it is not always rosy when someone loses his or her source of livelihood. But I must confess that there is no need criticizing the governor unnecessarily for lifting the spirit of distressed people. In fact, I commend his administration for this laudable response to this particular set of troubled traders.

At least, they can go back to their business locations with renewed hope.”

PoliticsBoroffice Is Not Our Candidate In Ondo by ayfay047(op): 1:44pm On Nov 06, 2018
A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State and human rights activist, Dr Tunji Abayomi, has declared that members of the party in the Ondo North Senatorial District would not support Senator Ajayi Boroffice as the candidate of the party in the next general elections.

He said he won the party primary and was declared the winner but that the National Working Committee of the party allegedly gave the party ticket to the serving senator.

Boroffice is one of the three serving senators who had already been given the tickets of the party by the NWC after the primaries of the party.

Abayomi, who spoke with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday, alleged that the national chairman of the APC, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, imposed Boroffice on members of the party in Ondo North Senatorial District.

He said, “I participated in my ward in the APC primary with other senatorial aspirants and I came first and was declared the winner by the party.

“It is therefore strange that my brother, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, who did not win the APC primary would wrongly and unconstitutionally be declared a candidate for the Ondo North Senatorial District by Adams Oshiomhole.”

But Senator Boroffice, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Kayode Fakuyi , said there was no controversy about his candidature, insisting that he was the authentic flagbearer of APC.

He said, “You may wish to note that Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice had over 64,000 valid votes in the primary election.”

While assuring that the EBS would cost about 40% less than what asphalt overlay would cost, added that Ondo State is the first state to use it on its road in Nigeria but that the solution is popular in countries like South Africa and Kenya

Responding, Governor Akeredolu said the gesture was part of his election promises to construct rural roads that would enable farmers get their farm produce to the market with ease.

He said government adopted the new method of road construction discovered in South Africa and in the US to replace the asphalt method that could be washed away during rainy seasons.

The governor explained that after the State Government's efforts, it succeeded in bringing down to the state, the South African Company for the demonstration of the Engineering Based Stabilizer, EBS, solution method that could solidify the road and have it last for over 10 years.

He said the South African Company would apply its EBS on one kilometre while the US Company would come to apply it's on another one, to ascertain whose enzyme solution was the best.

Some of the representatives of the people of the area spoke glowingly of Governor Akeredolu.

The Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ,SAN, has been commended for running a responsive government that is committed to the yearnings, progress and welfare of the people of the state.

The Oloba of Oba-Akoko, Oba Nurudeen Adegoroye and the Olukun of Ikun-Akoko, Oba Michael Olokunboro gave the commendation during the Governor’s inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of the bridges as well as rehabilitation of the failed portions of the ever-busy Owo-Ikare road in the Northern District of the state.

The Monarchs particularly lauded the Governor's quick response at reconstructing the culverts linking communities in the area and for rehabilitating the deplorable Owo-Ikare road.

The two bridges which connected communities like Oba, Ikun, Afo, Ido-Ani and Imeri were washed away by heavy downpour and thereby made the road impassable for motorists.

Oba Olokunboro noted that the Governor’s gesture has proven that his administration cares for the comfort and development of the people and communities across the state.

“Your gesture has demonstrated that you are a Governor to everybody in the state and your actions truly speak louder than words.
“Not only those at the urban settings, but also people like us at the rural communities of the state.

“Undoubtedly, by the time you would have completed your tenure in the state, Ondo would have achieved an unprecedented record of achievements which would serve as a template in which other Governors coming after you would emulate and build upon.

“On behalf of the people of Oba-Akoko, I thank you for your prompt and quick response to replace our collapsed culverts with standard bridges that would stand the test of time”, he said.

Also, the Olukun of Ikun, specially eulogised the Governor for not only approving the reconstruction of the damaged bridges, but has been monitoring the project as work progresses, saying “that to us, depicts humility.”

While commending Governor Akeredolu for his benevolence towards mitigating the hardship the collapsed bridges would have subjected the communities to, he said other Governors could have waited for months before responding to the people’s cries.

“Honestly, the quality of job done here is superb and would definitely last till eternity. We thank you for your love for us and we will continually support your administration with our prayers for more successes in your quest to transform the state”, he assured.

The Governor who noted that the engineers competency are amazing, hinted that their efforts have saved the state lots of money that would have been consumed by contractors, had the project been awarded to them.

Earlier, Arakunrin Akeredolu appreciated the competence and the quality of work done by the engineers at the state Ministry of Works, describing their worth as a thing of pride to the state.

Commenting on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Owo-Ikare road, Governor Akeredolu stated that the state government’s intervention would enable motorists plying the road have smooth rides.
