Politics / Re: Presidency Releases ‘checklist’ On Killings Under PDP by ayopo10(m): 5:44pm On Jun 28, 2018
nwakibie3:
THE Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of shedding crocodile tears by declaring a mourning period for people killed in Plateau state, saying that even though more people were killed under the former ruling party, it never declared a mourning period.

A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, gave a list of killings under PDP which it said the party never mourned.

The statement said that it was sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau state over the weekend have been turned to an opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the PDP.

The PDP had on Wednesday declared seven days of mourning during which it said flags in its office will fly at half mast.

The presidency stated: “These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics.

“The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half-mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls and may remain so for a long time to come, because Nigerians are politically discerning, and cannot be hoodwinked by cheap antics.

“A quick checklist of some savage and brutal killings in Nigeria during PDP rule, between 1999 and 2015, for which no national mourning was declared:

“November 20, 1999. Odi, in Bayelsa State, was invaded on orders of a PDP President. About 2,500 people killed. No national mourning.

“Between February and May 2000, about 5,000 people were killed during riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North. No national mourning.

“In 2001, hundreds of people, including the old, infirm, women and children were killed in Zaki Biam. No crocodile tears.

“Between September 7-12, 2001, Jos, Plateau State, erupted in internecine killings. Between 500 and 1,000 people were killed. Flags were not flown at half mast.

“In February 2004, at least 975 people were killed in Yelwa-Shendam, Plateau State. No mourning by the then ruling PDP.

“Between November 28 and 29, 2008, Jos was in flames again, with 381 deaths. No mourning.

“In 2010, 992 people killed in Jos. Mum was the word.

“In 2014 alone, according to Global Terrorism Index, at least 1,229 people were killed in the Middle Belt. No mourning.

“Boko Haram killings in PDP years were over 10,000. PDP flags were still fluttering proudly in the sky.

“Those who take pleasure in twisting statements from the Presidency may claim we are saying that many more people were killed under PDP than under President Muhammadu Buhari. It would be unconscionable to do so. The intendment of this statement is to show that wanton killings had been with us for awhile; this government is working towards enduring solutions; and should be given the opportunity to do so.

“Even a single soul is precious, and no man should take a life, which he cannot create. But when tragic situations as had happened in Plateau State occur, such should never be used to play crude politics. Those who are wont to do so should have change of hearts, or lose their very humanity.”

Romance / Smartest ways to end a wrong relationship by ayopo10(m): 7:59pm On May 24, 2018
:DHelp!!! I'm in love with Mr Wrong!!!!
Don't laugh Many of us have been in those shoes before, some are even in it at the moment.
Just as there is a Mr Right, there is also a Mr Wrong I believe ‍♀

What makes him wrong? Deep down you know he's just wrong for you (at the moment, sometimes) except you want to rationalize.
It may be spiritual incompatibility, bad character, toxic relationship, wrong values, he may be in a relationship at the moment, lack of direction, physical abuse, unfaithfulness or other areas that may make him wrong for you ‍♀

What do you do when you love a shoe and can totally afford the shoe but it isn't just the right fit?
Hehe someone like me would say 'wear shoe pads na'.
But how about move on to the next store, get your perfect fit, even a much finer one that fits your taste and let someone else have the former?
I bet wearing a shoe that fits, is better than managing one that doesn't.

Well then, how do you detach from this fine guy, who you literally think of every second of the day and have already thought out names of your babies for him but is not just the right person

I will give some tips and you can add yours

1. I want you to know that they are just feelings. Feelings are just emotions. And Love is not the same as feelings.
Yeah feelings are important in a romantic relationship but your choice of a life partner shouldn't be based solely on feelings.
Why? Feelings wear off. Feelings are temporary.
Guess what? You have a choice not to express a certain type of emotion. E.g you deserve to be angry at your spouse, but you decide against it.
Yh you had a choice over that anger emotion. Same as you have a choice over feelings. It all starts with a thought. And its your choice to either build on that thought and make it grow or arrest the thought , lock it with a padlock and throw into the sea It won't be easy, but when you feel yourself gushing over him. Remind yourself this, 'I have a choice and I choose not to have feelings for this guy, my feelings don't have dominion over me .'
And guess what? Your heart starts believing your words and reality starts aligning itself with your thoughts

2. Reduce your communication

What breeds affection?
Constant communication. Remember that guy you often called your 'bestie.'
What happened to your friendship? Somebody, if not both of you started having feelings and ruined the whole bestie relationship.
This will be hard, especially if he's a good friend and you absolutely need his friendship.

But these can help;
- Not involving him in every activity of your daily living.

- Being quite unavailable for him.

- Not sitting all day on the phone talking to him and expecting to fall out of love.

- Reducing your visits.

- Not responding to your impulse on wanting to check up on him all the time, don't worry God is watching over him.

- Not telling him everything, mentally filtering what you share with him.

3. Spread the love.
That love you shower on Mr. fine guy ehn, spread it to other people and other things.
Quit making him the centre of your world.
Get busy with stuffs.
It might not totally take your mind off it but it will reduce the time you spend with him.
- Make friends with both guys and girls.
- Go out with other people, spend time with your ladies, you will see how many friendships his own friendship is blocking you from enjoying.
- Be intentional about spending time with other people.
- Read books. Trust me on this one. Books take you to a different world for hours

4. Be Comfortable with yourself.
This is basically self love.
Love yourself too much that you look forward to being alone with yourself.
Love yourself too much that you are hardly lonely and bored.
Enjoy your own presence.
Know that you are just fine on your own.
Date yourself, take yourself out, write love notes to yourself, appraise yourself.

5. Lastly, get God involved.
The things I pray about ehn, and the way God is so interested in these things, and the way he answers speedily, baffles me.
Yes, God is interested about your love life. He made you human, he expects that you would have feelings here and there.
He's also your manufacturer, He knows how best to operate and fix you ⛏ Why don't you ask Him to help you get over this guy?
He will, trust me.

I hope I didn't bore you with this I look forward to learning from you too.
We are all in this journey together

Jayeoba Oluwafaanubomi.

Education / Nigerian Teenagers Discover Cure For Bad Breath by ayopo10(m): 9:42pm On Oct 24, 2017
We’ve all woken in the morning with that classic “morning breath.” Bacteria that live in your mouth cause this bad breath, or halitosis. The microbes feast upon little bits of food left behind by the last meal. Their wastes include stinky chemicals such as hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan. Many people with halitosis are nervous about their breath, and use mouthwashes or chewing gum to mask the smell. But two students from Nigeria have found a solution that is a little more local: the African walnut tree.

Eveshorhema Samuel-Alli, 14, and Ibukunoluwa Oladeinde, 16, showed that African walnuts not only help prevent bad breath, but also kill the bacteria that produce it. Their finding could provide a cheap solution to a bad breath for people in Nigeria and other countries where the African walnut tree grows.

Both teen scientists are juniors at Doregos Private Academy in Lagos, Nigeria. They presented their findings here, this week, at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Created in 1950 by the Society for Science & the Public, and sponsored by Intel, this competition brings together high school students from around the world to show off their scientific discoveries. (SSP also publishes Science News for Students and this blog.)

Eveshorhema first noticed the walnut effect while on a school trip to a rural area in Nigeria. The host village served these nuts to the students. The African walnut, Coula edulis, is not related to the walnuts snacked on by people in Europe and the United States. The African walnut grows in tropical Africa, including countries such as Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It produces edible nuts that taste a bit like hazelnuts. They are tasty. But as Eveshorhema found, they offer another benefit as well.

“When I woke up in the morning,” she recalls, “I hadn’t brushed my teeth yet but my breath was already fresh. Then I remembered I had eaten walnuts last night.” Curious, Eveshorhema ate more nuts the next night. Again, she awoke with fresh breath. It made her suspect walnuts were the reason.

To test this, Eveshorhema and Ibukunoluwa made up two different walnut products. After chopping the walnuts in a blender or pounding them, the teens mixed some with resin and sugar to make a gum. They mixed another batch of walnuts with lime and water to make a mouthwash. Then they took 35 volunteers and divided them into four groups. One group ate whole walnuts. Another group chewed walnut gum. The third used walnut mouthwash. The remaining volunteers did none of those things. That made them “controls,” an unaffected group against which they could compare test conditions.

The teens had to check the participants breath, but luckily, no one had to smell anything. Instead, Eveshorhema and Ibukunoluwa had their volunteers blow bubbles into a solution of lead nitrate and water. When hydrogen sulfide is present, the lead nitrate turns black.

Control participants had bacteria in their mouths. So when they blew bubbles, the water turned black. But the solution remained clear when the test volunteers from the three walnut groups blew bubbles into it.

The teen researchers hypothesized that the walnut was killing some mouth bacteria. So they swabbed the mouths of each volunteers. Then they grew the bacteria that had been present and counted them. Sure enough, participants eating walnuts had fewer bacterial guests.

Eveshorhema and Ibukunoluwa suspect that chemicals in African walnuts — such as oleic acid, alkaloids and tannins — might be killing off the stinky germs. But to confirm that, someone will have to conduct more tests.

In Nigeria, Ibukunoluwa says, “People spend a lot of money importing mouthwash, mouth sprays and gums.” But those only temporarily mask bad breath, she notes. If walnuts can kill the bacteria behind bad breath, treating halitosis could become “easier, cheaper and local.” The teens’ findings might save people money and spare them the embarrassment of bad breath.

Health / 10 Common Reasons For Your Irregular Menses! by ayopo10(m): 9:40am On Jan 07, 2017
Irregular menstruation is one with a cycle length of less than 21 days or greater than 35 days. Usually most women have an average cycle length of 28 days. However, it is still medically considered as normal if your cycle length falls between 21 - 35 days with flow i.e period duration of 2 of 7 days. Irregular menses often present as either polymenorrhoea, oligomenorrhoea or Metrorrhagia. When your cycle is less that 21 days, it is known as polymenorrhoea, and it means that your period are too frequent. When it is greater than 35 days, it is known as oligomenorrhoea, and it means that your period if too INfrequent. Metrorrhagia is when irrgular bleeding occcurs in between periods e.g your cycle is 28 days ans you are bleeding by, say, day 14, 18 or 20. Not normal.

Most times, the causes of irregular menstruation are benign and not a cause for serious worry. However, in a few cases, irregular menstruation often signals a very sinister disease state. Better you talk to talk to your doctor and be CERTAIN of your state of wellbeing than assume everything is fine.

Below are 10 common causes of irregular menstruation:

Pregnancy: This is often the commonest cause of a missed period. First thing to do when your period is delayed? You MUST confirm the presence or absence of pregnancy (you can do this at home by testing your urine with those fancy strips sold in pharmacy shops). When pregnancy is absent then it is something else that's causing the delay.

Puberty: Until about 3 years or so after the first menstruation (menarche), it is perfectly normal to experience irregular periods. There is no cause for alarm. This irregularity is due to the simple fact that it takes a few years for the fluctuating hormones in your body to stabilize. If you are a 15 or 16 year-old reading this with an irrgular period, don't panic. It will resolve itself with time.

Contraceptives: If you are practicing any method of contraception, a very common side effect of the it is menstrual irregularity. Be it in the form of pills (oral contraceptive pills), injections, implants or intrauterine devices, irregular menstruation may ensue. Luckily for some women, the period stabilizes back to normal after some time.

Weight loss: Are you obsessed with keeping a slim figure? I got news for you: delayed or absent period is sure to occur when your weight falls below 40kg! So unless you intentionally want to banish menstruation for some time (some women with very painful menstruation do it), you may want to watch your weight loss program and always keep it above 40kg.

Hormonal imbalance: Thyroid disorders such hypothyroidism are associated with hormonal imbalances which eventually affect menstruation. Also, a condition known as hyperprolactinaemia ( excessively high prolactin in the blood), caused by a brain tumor (prolactinoma), causes irregular periods by inhibiting ovluation. Usually when the irregular menstruation is caused by a prolactinoma, other symptoms such as headaches, visual disturbance and nipple discharge also present (NB: talk to a qualified doctor once you have visual disturbance, nipple discharge and irregular menses. In fact, talk to a doctor about everything!)

Pelvic inflammatory disease(PID): This is very serious infection affecting the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. It is usually a complication of an improperly treated sexually transmitted infection, especially gonorrhoea. It often results when the infection festers for too long, to the point of blocking the tubes. It is also a common cause of infertility among young women. (Visit www.doctorshub.com.ng for FREE, expert medical consultation concerning your health complaints).

Stress: Yes, you read it right. Stress! It, too , can cause you to have irregular menstruation. Very high levels of stress often blocks or inhibits your brain's production and release of ovulatory hormones. It is the very same reason why you have very low sex drive when stressed too much. According to a 2015 study published in the Journal of Clinical & Diagnostic Research, high stress levels were associated with menstrual irregularities.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS): Usually presenting with symptoms such as irregular menstruation, excessive hair growth (especially around the face), weight gain, infertility, acne, etc, PCOS is an endocrine condition seen in women of reproductive age (15 - 45 years) where the ovaries contain small fluid-filled sacs called cysts. If you have having a delayed period with some of the symptoms listed above, you should talk to your doctor asap.

Menopause: Women who are nearing menopause often complain of irregular menstruation or spotting of blood. This is normal and expected, and is as a result of a decrease in the oestrogen levels associated with menopause.

Breastfeeding: This is reason why your menstruation is delayed after birth when you decide to breastfeed your baby. The hormone prolactin, which is responsible for milk production, is at an all time high during breastfeeding. Prolactin inhibits ovulation and therefore interrupts regular periods. By the way, bteastfeeding is often used as a natural method of contraception (Lactational amenorrhoea).

TREATMENT FOR IRREGULAR MENSTRUATION?
The treatment of an ABNORMAL irregular menstruation is dependednt on the cause. Be it PID, PCOS, thyroid disorders, prolactinoma, or contraceptive use, there is a specific treatment plan for each. Unfortunately, treatment will not be covered in this post because of how tiringly voluminous the information is (you will be bored to death!).

NB: Please, visit www.doctorshub.com.ng to get a FREE treatment plan, from a qualified medical doctor if and when you need one.
