You said Ibori cannot be arrested and tried again since he has already been tried and convicted in a London court. The principle you quoted is called double jeopardy in law.
Yes he cannot be arrested and tried again for the money laundry case that was concluded in London. The matter on ground now is different. Ribadu alleges Ibori offered him 15 million dollars bribe. No court has heard that case yet. Ibori can be tried for that in Nigeria.

8. Hire A Professional:
As easy as event planning may seem, it requires a great deal of creativity, communication and time management. Save your self the stress and hire a professional (like me).

7. Take your Time:
give your self a minimum of 3 - 12 months to planning your event, as you amy need to tweak some initial plans or improvise on some things as time goes on. It is adviseable to have enough time on your hand when such situation arises.

6. Dont do it all by yourself:
No one man is an island, no matter your qualification, or experience, there is strength in number. Regardless how small the event, Never try to execute it all by yourself.

5. Have A Great Relationship With Your Venue:
This point cannot be over emphasized, It is a good idea to maintain a great relationship and communication with your venue, not just for assurance of quality service and security but for many other obvious reasons which include but not limited to knowing if there are any laws in regards having an event in the vicinity. It will be quite embarrassing to have your event shut down half way through for one reason or the other.

4. Think About Becoming A Company;
How do I mean? - clients, sponsors, audiences, venue owners, vendors and media companies are more likely to pay attention to a company than an individual.

3. Get Some Investment;
Except this is a private event like a wedding or birthday party, you definitely need some investment to get the event started, most often than not money from individuals, friends, self or family cannot cover the entire cost of hosting an event. Look beyond financial investment, source for those companies who will be willing to invest some of their resources in your event vision. E.g. Beverage, wine or catering companies an cover the cost of refreshment. Also Put in mind, that every investor will be on the look out for what they stand to gain for investing in you so be sure to have these clearly pointed out.

2. Have a strong vision: this will keep you focused on the goal, and prevent you from acting on every idea that pops up in your head or during a general meeting. It keeps the whole team working towards the same direction and prevents wastage of resources on unnecessary things

1. Work with the right people: work with the right set of individuals who have something tangible to contribute. As time is a very important factor in putting an event together, work with people who are of the know in the business. Human management is one of the hardest aspect of putting an event together, the larger the crowd of your team, the more resource and time you will end up wasting in managing them

Before i dive into the topic, i will like to make a clear distinction between who an event planner/manager is versus who an event procuder is.

After working (as an event producer) for various clients such as united nations women, mr and miss nigeria international, Lagos countdown etc, i have realised that to the lay-man these two occupations are the same. But in the professional sense though they are similar and require a similar set of skills and experiences, they are absolutely different. To be brief:

An event planner/manager is the gate keeper to the event. They are responsible for keeping the budget in line, vendors hired, coordinating security personnels employed etc. They attend to and manage what clients have set down in regards the event, they simply work and manage what has been provided to them take for example wedding planning.


On the other hand, an event producer is the key keeper to an event. They are the once that make it happen from rigging, lighting, textiles, flowers etc. They pay attention to minor details than event planners. They are responsible for the oversight and coordination for an event for the clients from its initial concept (sourcing venues, reaching out to vendors, budgetting, hiring security, creating the guestlist etc) up to the management of maintenance of workers once the event has ended.

So now that it is clear that these two clearly have completely different bags of tricks, lets now review the eight tips on putting together a successful event in 2017.
