I checked the appointment page yesterday and was shocked to see 2nd December, 2014 as the earliest Abuja date. I guess people are running for Lagos VOs. I am also expecting my I-20. I can't imagine traveling to Lagos from Abuja because of date o. I just pray there will be available date in November by the time my I-20 arrives

Am sorry you misunderstood my question. My Spouse and son are listed on my I-20 as dependants and I wish they attend the F1 interview with me as dependants seeking F2 Visa. So my question again, if I apply for F1 and F2 for them, won't it jeopardize my home ties as we will all be traveling together?

ferdimako: Including ur residence permit and choosing the visa post that handles applications from the country you reside legally settles your last concern. Everything has been treated, buddy. You don't just want to work!

Did you guys see the reduction in the applications received. I checked my NOC last week and it showed over 200 applications received but on checking it again 2 days ago, i discovered the applications received has reduced to 54. What could have happened?

He should also endeavour to send a post mail to Accra office with copies of:

1. PER

2. Copies of bio data page of the PA and all accompanying/non-accompanying family members

3. Copies of the visa indicating he has legal residence for a minimum of 1 year in the USA

4. A letter stating the reason(s) for the transfer of file to the visa processing office for USA which is CPC - OTTAWA . He should be specific in stating that it is administratively convenient for you (your friend) for your (his) PR application to be processed in the visa office indicated. He should also ask for a confirmation of this transfer of file once completed to enable him/her initiate communication with the "new" visa office. Let him itemize the copies of all documents enclosed....

5. Also send a CSE to CPC OTTAWA that s/he has initiated a file transfer to their office as a result of your recent relocation (state the reason for relocation) asking that they send you an AOR once the file has been transferred.

Please I have a friend whose visa card has been charged (debited) and he also received an email from the CIO during the week with his UCI and application no.

His status has really changed in the last 2 months in the sense that he has relocated to US (on F1 visa). He intends to change his address but he doesnt know how to contact Accra. Can you guys furnish me with details of how he can communicate with Accra on his change of status and address.

No Wahala. They didn't ask for an updated financial document. They just asked me to send the same documents I sent initially.

I filled a Student Assistantship form which I have since submitted. Deadline for funding application is Mid September

Are you saying you have been admitted into NC A&T State University or that you got admitted in another school for Fall 2014 and now deferred till Spring 2015?

I don't have my Spring 2015 I-20 yet, I was told it will be ready by early october. So by October ending, it should have reached me

I was admitted into NC A&T State University for Fall 2014 but I deferred my admission to Spring 2015 due to their delay in processing my I-20. I know they have good funding although I have not been given any. Hope that helps

My wife: Smiles and says definitely, with that face that says "why won't we?"

I: Yes. I hand him the letter and statement. I attached a cheque of my full fees in front of the letter.

VO: sees the cheque and says, you haven't cashed the cheque.
I: no

VO: hands back our I-20s. Explains that our visa has been approved and that our B1/B2 won't be canceled. We should be careful to shoe the immigration officer the right visa when entering.

I am for Spring 2015, patiently waiting for my I-20. I have been in a fix on whether to go for the F1 interview alone or with my Wife and son. Some gurus said I should go alone and some said we can all go together but with your testimony here, I am beginning to have a change of mind to go with my family. Congrats once again

I am presently in the same shoes as you(Applying for Student Visa with my wife, no kid yet) this Thursday. I believe your family is one of your strongest ties but generally for US visa applications I think you are safer applying together with them.
My Experience, a lot of people say it's easier obtaining B1/B2 visa if you have a rich travel history. I did, been out of the country 10-12 times including those "that counted" -UK,etc except US.
I applied for a B1/B2 visa alone and was rejected. I was asked just two questions, are you married? Where do you work? and I was handed my passport back. Six months later this January, I applied with my wife and the only questions we were asked was to list the countries we have visited and what i did. No other documentation checked.
I have other people with similar experiences........Just my opinion though.

I feel you. I have also seen people that were refused individually but later granted as a family. You know F1/F2 visas are almost like immigrant visas and that's why one should thread softly when it comes to applying individually or with family.

Amefrica: If you want them to stay with you throughout, let your school know. You a financially strong man, shouldn't have any problem. Remember to fill them as your dependents both in your school's app form and the DS160 form.

You have to attend the VISA interview with them, sir.

Thanks baba. I am really confused here as two people already advised to attend the F1 visa alone because if the whole family go at once then home ties is questionable. I already included them in the I-20 (thanks)

Snazzygirl: Will your family stay with you for the entire length of the program? If yes, they need to get F2 visas. if they will only stay for a couple of weeks, then their B visa is ok. To determine if the BOA account is a potential problem, you need to answer some questions. How did you open the account? why? how have you been funding the account?

Thanks for your prompt response. I want them to stay with me for the entire length of the program. I have been advised earlier not to attend my F1 interview with them. So at what point will they attend their own F2 interview. I have also heard about change of status from B1/B2 to F2 but I dont know much about it.

I opened the account in April when I traveled to US. All the banker asked for was my international passport. I opened it because I do a lot of online transactions and sometimes my GTB naira mastercard was declined. So when I heard it doesn't require much to open a BOA account, i quickly opened one in Long Island, NY. So I moved all the money from my GTB account through ATM to my BOA account and I started using my BOA Visa card. I have a lot of friends in the US and whenever they want to send money to Nigeria, I simply tell them to send the money to my BOA account while I help them transfer the naira equivalent to their beneficiaries in Nigeria. I hope i have answered all your questions.

Another grey area pls. I have a BankofAmerica account which I have been operating even as I am in Nigeria here. I intend using the BOA statement of account plus my GTB statement of account as proof of fund. I hope the VO will not see the BOA statement as a minus for me.

Secondly, I intend traveling with my family and son. Do they need to get their own F2 Visas or they can travel with me on their B1/B2 visas?

I have a valid b1/b2 visa (Including my wife and 1 year old son) and I have been to the US once. Now I intend to go there for my MSC (Spring 2015). I have my admission letter but awaiting my I-20. My questions are:

1. Should I apply for the F1 visa with my family or I should go 1st then my wife and son go at a later date? (The reason I asked this question is that, wont the VO be suspicious that we are immigrating?)

2. God forbid that the F1 is refused, will my b1/b2 still be valid?

3. What are the likely questions considering the fact that I traveled to the US in April 2014 with my family?

4. I didnt take the GRE test before I was given my admission. Is that a problem?
