Also a thread on the equivalent of the ranks in other forces (army, navy and airforce) comes to mind. Can someone please take the pain and open it.

Bro, there is no Rank equivalent between police and the military hence, civil police are civilian not military as such, The least rank in the Military (Private,Rating or ACM) is equivalent to Inspector General of Police.
