The Airport Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested two teenagers with $9,734,225 and €664,100 at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The 18-year-old teenagers, identified as Abdul Bashir and Rabiu Bashir, said to be brothers, were arrested at the old domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport at about 6.30 pm on Thursday, shortly after arriving with the huge sum of money aboard an Arik Air flight from Kano. According to security and airline sources, the money was packed in four travelling bags, which the suspects checked in as hand luggage. A security source said the police worked on a tip-off by an airline ground employee. Unconfirmed reports said the two young men did not declare the content of the bag before they boarded the plane in Kano. It was learnt that the suspects, who claimed they were operators of a Bureau de Change outlet, were given the money by their customers. A police source quoted the suspects as saying that they were in Lagos to sell the foreign currencies because the exchange rates were usually higher in Lagos. The case had been handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigerian Police Force, Abuja for further investigation, according to a police source. The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Mr. Moses Onireti, told SATURDAY PUNCH that he was in a meeting when a call was put through his telephone line for reaction. When our correspondent called the police commissioner around 8.20 pm for the second time on the incident, he said, “call back.” In 2010, an official in one of the commercial banks claimed she lost an undisclosed amount in foreign currency between Lagos and Abuja, which she said she checked in on an Arik flight. It was lost in transit between Lagos and Abuja. source: http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201102055355759 |

South Africa orders Christ Embassy church to stop faith healing ads South Africa’s advertising authority yesterday ordered a Nigerian church to stop making claims on national television that it can treat diseases such AIDS through faith healing. The ruling was made after anti-AIDS campaigners filed a complaint against Christ Embassy, a charismatic church based in Nigeria, which has paid-for programmes on the private e.tv channel on Sunday mornings featuring people recounting how they have been cured by the church. “The message that is communicated to the e.tv audiences/viewers is that joining the Christ Embassy or its Healing School, or associating with it or attending its “faith healing sessions” will lead to its Pastor(s) transferring God’s healing powers to anyone who suffers from the list of diseases that are read out or announced in the programme,” the authority said in its ruling. The church was then ordered to withdraw the advert from the station immediately. More than 10 percent of South Africa’s 50-million strong population is HIV positive. The Treatment Action Campaign, the country’s main anti-AIDS lobby, said they lodged a complaint after it received a report that a woman with drug resistant tuberculosis, who had made significant progress on her medical treatment, gave up her medication because she believed Christ Embassy had cured her. “She consequently became ill with XDR TB again and died but only after transmitting the disease to her children. There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stayed like that for half of an hour. Then, a trouble-making truck driver seated next to him, took the drink from the guy, and finished it. The poor man started crying. The truck driver said, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry." "The guy replied; No, it's not like that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fell asleep, and I got late to my office and my boss, fired me. When I left office, and got back to where i packed my car, I found out it was stolen and the police said they cannot do anything abt it. I got a cab to return home, only for me to leave my wallet in the cab "I got home, and found my wife in bed with the gardener. I left home, and came to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drank my poison." |
A teacher asked his pupils to draw an image of a goat eating grass but one of the pupils drew goat without grass. The teacher out of annoyance said to the boy "Why have u drawn a goat without grass, the boy, knowing that the teacher would beat him quickly said "sir i drew grass too maybe the goat has eaten it |
U guys shouldnt be pessimistic about Nigeria, @ poster, tell ur whit friends that we're happy people as we hope for the best. I agree with u that the media are killing us cos a lot of atrocities are committed in Europe and America daily but our Media are handicapped to expose them the way they expose us. Amnesty programme is a good thing Nigeria can always proud of everywhere. Shikena! |
All i've got to say is that with GEJ at the helms of affairs i personally feel that the country is empty. As nice as he seems GEJ is no different from the current theives calling themselves politician and besides he has got no charima. Being loyal/humble differs from being capable. GEJ may be humble but definitely not capable of paddling the canoe of this great nation. All he could and should do is to conduct a credible election that will deny the likes of IBB our prestigeous presidency and ursher in purpose-driven politicians. However, if he chooses to run against IBB or anybody he will never have my precious vote and i will pray fervently that he loses the election.GEJ, i'm not carried away by ur humility and i insist that u leave Aso Rock come 2011 cos u're not fit to be there. I riseeeee! |
segbas:i'd advise that u submit the cas letter. Though i filled my cas number when i applied for my visa applicatioon, my cas letter was the first thing i was asked was my cas letter. I submitted it and was given a visa. Pls just print and submit it so far u have it to be on a safe side. |
It was great like every other first day of the month on Ramadan. I never made any mistake of eating but it was a bit difficult taking one's eyes and mind off all the temptation arround but with the fear of Allah on my mind i conquered the devil. |
@ justwise, pls let me know if i'll need my statement of acct while travelling cos the one i submitted wasnt returned. I want to know if i should get another one before i start using the money in my account for my enrolment processes. Thanks. |
hi all, I just discovered that my statement of account was not returned with all the documents i submitted. I wouldnt know if it was delibrate or a mistake. Pls if u've experienced it let me know so as to know if i'll get another one from my bank (if important) or inform the BHC about the missing statement @hafizy: yusufadesco@yahoo.com |
@amunee i think u should go with various positons on this thread that u can use ur dad's acct so far u can prove that he is ur dad and he has enough money in his account. My brother tittled the letter as ) "letter of support" and adressed it to the BHC, Abuja though i submitted it in lagos. Got it? |
@lekepee i used my statement of acct but the money was deposited into my account by my brother that's why i got a letter from him just to prove the source of the money. I also used is payslip(he earns over 500k per month) just to show that somebody can support me financially if the money in my account seems inadequate. I hope this helps. |
@bunyy, 3 months. @fali, thanks. May God grant u success in all ur dealings |
Hi all, I got my student visa today after 12 working days and i express my appericaition to all whose contributions have been helpful. To Justwise, u are an angel and u'll remain my boss. Just to allay some fears, i submitted my degree certificate (though i used my transcript to gain the admission), my Neco result, attestation letter from my school, accomodation letter from my school in the UK, statement of acct and letter of sponsor from my brother. I didnt pay any part of my tution fee except 200pounds i paid to book accomodation but i had all the money in my account. I need to add that I deposited my money at the rate of #228 per 1 pound but when i printed my statement and submited my application the exchange rate had risen above that. I was very afraid but had faith in Allah. So if ur case is like mine, put ur trust in ur God. Thank u all. |
@ceteris09 i'm sure u must be an economist as ur username implies, lol. Well, i guess my case resembles urs and that u agree wif me that applications made thru agent are treated wif urgency which u and i dont enjoy at the moment. My friend was refused visa because his CAS showed that he hasnt paid any part of his tution fee of which he later paid full tution fee after he had received his CAS and was sent an official receipt. According to him, he included the receipt in his application but he was refused on the basis that the BHC followed the content of the CAS which showed that he hasnt paid anything and failed to honour the receipt tendered. He has written to the sch to resend his CAS and reflect the payment therein. He will reapply later. Hope ur case isnt like this?lol, |
@ Justwise, I have always followed ur advice on visa applications especially ur take on the issue of going through agents. I had at one time engaged the service of an agent but had to stop when i found out that I could do what the whole thing myself. But the only regret i seem to have is that the BHC tend to favour applicatons made through agents not by issuing or refusing visa but by quickly processing the application. It's ten working days now since i made may application by myself but a friend who just submitted his application through an agent on thursday (4 working day from now) though refused, got response today? when I submitted my application at Lekki, I was asked whether i used an agent or not of which i said no and was given a red bag while applications made through agent were contained in black bags. Dont u think the BHC seems to give preference to activities of the agents? |
@gsomi, Congrats, pls kindly let us know how long it took you to receive response after submitting ur application. I submitted mine on the 20th of July and up till now i havent received any info about it. How were u contacted when the result was out? wishing u success in the UK. |
Thanks Justwise, Does it mean I can deposit the remaining amount into my account without violating the 28 day rule coz the the money is 28 days now and I want to apply next week? |
Hi there, I'm due to apply for UK student visa having met virtually all the requirements. However, I just discovered that exchange rate is a bit higher than what it was when I banked the money bringing about shortage of 25000, pls can this be a problem? Then, my brother, a senior staff in Schlumberger deposited the money into my account, will it be wise for me to ask him to give me letter of support with his payslip and have them included in the documents I'll submit? Pls I need ur views coz I'm planning to make the application next week. |
@Justwise The case of not having paid any part of tution fee is applicable to me too. The school(Cardiff University) never asked me to pay deposit. Though I really wanted to pay the first insallment (about 3400 pounds) ; the school had sent me CAS before i made up my mind. I was advised not to pay the money again coz it doesnt reflect on my CAS that I've made any payment but ensure that I have all the money in my acct for 28 days, I have all the money in my acc and it will have been there for 28day by next wk wednesday. So based on ur experience, kindly candidly tell me if not paying any part of the fee can be a disadvantage. On the evidence of accommodation, pls tell me how sure u're that the UKBA may not disqualify me if i dont have any evidence to show but have my 5400pounds (Wales) intact. Thanks and God bless. |
Why cant u give the detailed info about the recruitment, why must we call u, are u a police officer??, pls dont bring what u do on highways here, Send the recruitment detail or remain in perpetual silence. |
I dont see Jonathan as being capable of running the affairs of the country especially when he is confronted with the problem of saying the truth in the midst of thousands of liars. Remember Yar'adua CV showed how honest and sincere the Late man was but dealing with sycophancy and political thievry of the people he was working with sent him to his untimely grave! I am of the opinion that Jonathan should see himself as a prophet sent by God to diagnose and cure Nigerian political decadence. So the young man need not contest so as to afford him the chance of putting in place a free and fair election which will be the foundation of a strong political future for Nigeria. If he does this, credible people will show interests in contesting for elections and Nigeria will be governed by God-chosen people and his name will forever linger in the country's history as the true stateman just like Nelson Mandela of South Africa. However if he contests, I will not only see him as being greedy but also regard him as a Messiah who gets carried away with sell enrichment and fails to deliver God's message out of selfishness, so I'd rather vote for the devilish IBB than wasting my vote for JONATHAN. |

@ Justwise, Good to have u arround and more power to ur elbow coz u're doing a great job. Pls how easy do u think it is to start a Phd Programme immediately after M.Sc or do I have to come to Nigeria and make a fresh application for Phd program? |
