These were those who recreated Nigeria post 1966 and entrenched the core political foundations of the present day Nigeria. That the hausa-fulani outsmarted them post Dimkas coup, should not negate the fact that they loved the system as it was, before they were violently booted out in 1976/77.

There's something so fascinating in Nigeria, there's virtually no elite and their families in Nigeria especially of the major tribes who live or spend majority time in Nigeria.

All regions including the the Western region existed from after the amalgamation of 1914. The British ran a regional government of North, East and Western Nigeria. The Western region gained self government in 1957.

History is history and history does not become history due to longevity. The fact is Lagos is part of the south West of Nigeria. This fact is sealed by Lagos being part of Odua investment group as well as DAWN ( The development authority for Western Nigeria)

The yoruba nature of Lagos is also enshrined in the fact that the earliest founders of Lagos were the Awori's. Benin kingdom temporarily conquered part of Eko and levied taxes. But the Oba and rulership soon reverted to the original yoruba's and has existed as such to this day.

Interestingly enough the Obas of Lagos did not include any of the returnee slaves who are being used by some to claim a divided Lagos. And the rule of yoruba obas pre dates the beginning and the end if slavery - so the idea of returnee rulership rights over lagos is a historical nonsense.

I am afraid you don't know history. Lagos colony did not even is the island without the eko, third mainland and ikoyi bridges. Luckily for those seeking the truth the national archives are there to validate all this. Thank God for historians and geographers.

Lagos state ( greater lagos ) was created in 1967 by subdividing it from the old western region. Before then lagos or eko was that small island called colony of lagos and later lagos municipality. Western region even had its own consulate in London that was later taken over by FRN


Some of us were in primary school when lagos state was created. Not everyone on NL is gen x or z or y sef. It's just that we don't talk much until we see macabre attempts to twist history.

The so-called Western region part of Lagos ended in 1967,it only existed from 1960- 1967, just six years, it doesn't count

I think we need to set this straight because there is a lot of confusion.

The area claimed by the Lagos indigenes is LAGOS COLONY or EKO which is the Lagos island excluding VI, Ikoyi, Lekki etc. Danfo drivers still call out Eko as a destination within Lagos.

The areas such as Epe, Ikeja and Mushin, Yaba etc were later expropriated by the Federal Government from the old Western Region and then combined into the new Lagos state. The indigenes of the island are not the indigenes of the expanded and largerLagos.

If the indigenes of Eko want an area to control, they should be asking for Lagos Island Council mayor not governor.

I have also attached the population constituents of Lagos in 1891.

This is the definitive position on the matter.

Thank you for this history. It is very clear that we Yoruba are united and that we have no migrant Yoruba. This is the same in Yorubaland, whether you come from Ijebu, Ife, Ijesha, Egbaland, Akokoland, it doesn't matter, once you are a Yoruba, you are one and we treat you as such.
