We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too much for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

New Jersey University Was Fake, but Visa Fraud Arrests Are Real

On the surface, the University of Northern New Jersey seemed legitimate. It had a website, with a seal featuring the Latin words “Humanus, Scientia, Integritas,” a list of business-oriented degrees offered and a promise of “an exceptional educational experience.”

It was so exceptional it did not exist.

Instead, the university was a fake, set up by the Homeland Security Department in 2012 as part of a sting operation to ensnare criminals involved in student visa fraud.
On Tuesday, that operation resulted in the issuing of arrest warrants for 21 people in the New York metropolitan area, the United States attorney for New Jersey, Paul J. Fishman, and Sarah Saldaña, the director of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, announced at a news conference in Newark.

The people arrested were brokers who knowingly recruited foreign students, mainly from China and India, to an institution that would not have real classes in order to obtain student visas. The brokers, working with people posing as university officials, charged the students fees in a scheme that allowed the students to stay in the country. They also arranged for jobs, and some of these employers were also issued warrants for arrest.

Some brokers received commissions from the undercover officials worth $1,200 to $2,000 on average for each student they recruited, an ICE representative said. As part of the sting operation, other brokers received kickbacks for placing students in jobs.

Some of those arrested include legal permanent residents and naturalized citizens, said a Homeland Security official who is familiar with the investigation. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the arrests were continuing on Tuesday morning.

The University of Northern New Jersey, established in 2012 with the address of an office building in Cranford, N.J., may have been billed as an institution of higher learning, but no learning went on. It purported to offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in areas like accounting, marketing and health care management. To lure unsuspecting recruiters, it was listed as state-licensed and certified by the Homeland Security Department. But there were no classes, no faculty members and no degrees over the last three years.

Several hundred “students” who knowingly enrolled for at least 45 days at the university will shortly be receiving notices to appear in immigration court, the government said. After gaining entry into the United States, many did not stay in the New York metropolitan area, but lived and worked throughout the country, officials said.

About 1.2 million students are currently in the United States on student visas, a majority of whom are legitimately attending universities, government officials said.

There have been several high-profile student visa fraud cases in recent years from California to New York, which represent a security concern for a government under pressure to screen visa applicants for possible terrorism ties.

The most prominent arrest in the case of sham universities, also known as visa mills, was in 2011. Susan Xiao-Ping Su, the founder of Tri-Valley University, in Northern California, was sentenced to 16 years in prison. The university had offered classes in engineering and medicine, but did not require that students attend them. More than 1,500 students, mostly from India, were affected, and not all knew that they were being defrauded.

In January Preet Bharara, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, sentenced three executives of Micropower Career Institute, a for-profit college with five locations in the New York City-New Jersey area, for visa fraud. Among other offenses, the executives took $7.4 million from foreign students in exchange for visas, prosecutors said.

In 2012, a Government Accountability Office report faulted Immigration and Customs Enforcement for not providing enough control in the verification process of institutions and applicants under the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. Officials with ICE said it had since been trying to tighten its accreditation protocols.

This sting operation, the government said, was a way to understand the extent of the criminal network behind visa fraud, including how students are recruited abroad, how fake universities work and what happens after the students arrive in the United States.

The Facebook page of the University of Northern New Jersey last had a post on March 5, announcing the school would be closed until March 18 for spring break. Earlier posts included pictures of students — some wearing “Badgers” T-shirts — against the same plain gray wall with the school seal and the letters U.N.N.J. On the university’s website, a note from the supposed president, Steven Brunetti, offered platitudes about the education offered at the university.

“As you explore U.N.N.J.,” the president’s note said, “I am confident that you will uncover all of the priceless opportunities an education from U.N.N.J. will provide you for your future.”

ABDUCTED MUSLIM CHILDREN FORCEFULLY
CONVERTED TO CHRISTIANITY IN EDO IDP
CAMP.

As a matter of urgency and immediate attention,
Muslim Corpers' Association of Nigeria (MCAN)
use this medium to reaffirm and throw more light
on the recent post of Muslim Rights Concern
(MURIC) about the above headline currently
going viral. As a result of the Boko Haram
insurgency, some Muslims were taken from
different states in the Northern part of Nigeria to
a CHRISTIAN CONTROLLED IDP camp in Edo
State, hundreds of children were forcefully or
deceitfully converted to Christianity and the
worst of all is that the management of the camp
denied MCAN access to the needed populace of
the Camp.

As part of the humanitarian activities of the
association, on the 5th of February, 2016, MCAN
Edo state's Amir and
general secretary went to the Internally
Displaced People's camp at Uhuagua village, Edo
State to inform the camp management about the
intention of MCAN to visit , conduct free medical
check Up, donate items and above all, admonish
the inhabitants of the camp to remain patient
and hopeful in Allah (God ) as directed by MCAN
National but the management of the camp which
was headed by a pastor stated that they do not
allow such, in fact the pastor started acting
funny once he noticed MCAN is constituted by
Muslims who intended to admonish those under
his care.

The Edo state Amir stated that his first surprise
was to have seen that it is a CHRISTIAN camp
as the frontage sign board reads

"INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN CENTRE FOR
MISSION". He stated that ; they were dressed for
jumat and obviously tagged as Muslims, Thus,
they spent over 2 hours to be properly checked
and confirmed as NYSC Corps members, though
the security persons (Military) were friendly. He
further stated that the head of the camp
explained that the subjection to scrutiny of
identity was a security measure. The Amir also
stated that he was amazed that there was no
single worship center in the camp for Muslims
bearing in mind that there are/were Muslims
among those in the camp. He gathered this fact
from some young adults who were reluctant to
associate with them.

After submitting an official letter of purpose as
instructed by the pastor in charge, he claimed
the only thing MCAN would be allowed to do was
to hand over the relief items to the management
of camp which will be distributed to the
inhabitants of the camp on behalf of MCAN. All
efforts to make the pastor understand that
MCAN is a recognized body by NYSC and
REGISTERED with a CERTIFICATE OF
CORPORATION was to no avail. Until the pastor
was informed that MCAN National visited the
biggest IDP camp (Dalori Camp,Maiduguri) in
Nigeria about some weeks back for the same
purpose of visit to Edo camp, without any
problem or prevention by The Dalori IDP camp
management before he agreed to allow MCAN
access the children only. Based on this a foul
play was sensed.

The case was reported to the Sultan of Sokoto
during a meeting and he stated that ; they
(Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs -
"NSCIA" are aware and they equally tried to
take some of these Muslims out of the camp
through the defense minister but children were
manipulated or psychologically influenced to
stone the military men, claiming they preferred
the camp to their homes. After this, NSCIA
decided to let go and left the children in the
hands of Allah (God) in order to avoid religious
conflict within the country. Roughly a month later
, the case of #EseOruru came up to shake the
whole Nigeria, this is synonymous to the issue at
hand. "Abduction of Children and forcefully
changing their fate". MCAN believes the children
are minors , therefore , The Christian camp
cannot determine what fate is best for them, just
as it is in the case of #EseOruru.

MCAN noticed a lot of the Muslim inhabitants of
the camp might have been deceitfully or
forcefully converted to Christianity, since there is
nothing to attribute themselves to in the camp
as Muslims, In fact it was difficult to spot out
the Muslims. These are some of the reasons
why it was perceived that the pastor heading the
camp intentionally prevented MCAN from gaining
access to the elderly ones because their
conscience can be easily preached to , unlike
the children. More so , THE CHILDREN MIGHT
HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED BY THE PASTOR
AND HIS STAFF TO STONE US LIKE THEY DID
TO OTHERS IN THE PAST.

Knowing fully well that it was Muslims he was
dealing with , the Pastor went as far as sharing
pamphlets with inscription "I saw Jesus" to the
MCAN representatives, this shows how far the
camp management must have gone to make
sure they convert all the Muslims in the camp to
Christianity, leaving them with no option.
In all , we are not happy with the current state
of the camp in sense that ,AN IDP CAMP
SHOULD NOT BE SOLELY MANAGED BY A
PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS BODY since we have
TRADITIONALIST , MUSLIMS and CHRISTIANS
who might be taken to such camp.

MCAN should be granted access to all the
accessible inhabitants of the camp. Any act of
"stone throwing" at us must have been planned
and influenced by the CHRISTIAN MANAGEMENT
in charge.

Islamic religious structure should be built in the
camp. Else, If the camp will maintain its
CHRISTIAN Name and current mode of
operation, all Muslims should be evicted to a
Muslim camp.

Furthermore , MCAN does its community services
for the sake of Allah and not for recognition by
anyone , therefore MCAN should be allowed to
carry out Community Development Services in as
much as its members identity and genuineness
of intention can be proved beyond all reasonable
doubts.

Anyone who knows or has a child or relative
there should kindly meet with MCAN, MURIC or
NSCIA for collective report to the rightful
authorities.

On this note, we draw the attention of the
presidency, Senators, media houses, human right
activist , Muslims and non Muslims within and
Outside Nigeria to instruct the CHRISTIAN
CONTROLLED IDP CAMP in EDO STATE to
release the MUSLIM children to their parents or
SUPREME COUNCIL FOR ISLAMIC AFFAIRS,
allow recognized religious bodies to have access
to the entire populace of the camp and Preach
to them just as CHRISTIANS have been doing in
the camp. In fact , the idea of a religious IDP
camp solely managed by a particular faith needs
to be stopped.

Finally, If it were Muslims that did this , the
media would have exploded long ago with
comments like "MUSLIMS WANT TO ISLAMIZE
NIGERIA".


This is not to trigger any problem but for the
rightful to be done. LET US COME TOGETHER TO
STOP THIS and #FreeTheMuslimChildrenInEdo

More than 250 years after Shakespeare’s death, a story began to circulate that his skull had been stolen from his grave in Stratford-upon-Avon by trophy hunters.

For more than a century the tale was widely dismissed as a myth; but now, on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, archaeologists believe they have found evidence to support the claims.

Using ground-penetrating radar to scan the grave reputed to be Shakespeare’s, they have discovered that the skull is apparently absent from the rest of the skeleton.

They also established that a skull in a church in Beoley, 20 miles away, which according to local legend belonged to the Bard, was in fact that of a 77-year-old woman. This means, they said, that Shakespeare’s skull could still be at large somewhere.

Their findings will be presented in the documentary Secret History: Shakespeare’s Tomb, which airs on Channel 4 on Saturday.

Shakespeare died in 1616 and his grave is believed to be in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon. It is not marked with his name, but is covered by a stone inscribed with a curse to ward off anyone moving the remains. Members of his family, including wife Anne Hathaway, are in marked graves close by.
Kevin Colls, an archaeologist from Staffordshire University, and Erica Utsi, a geophysicist who has worked in Westminster Abbey, led the scanning project.

Mr Colls said: “With the developments of radar and geophysical techniques and what you can do with laser scanning technology, the church realised they could answer many questions about what’s beneath those stones without digging them up.”

The scan showed evidence of a “mysterious and significant repair” to the grave, Mr Colls said, giving credence to a story published in Argosy magazine in 1879. According to this, a group of trophy hunters led by a Dr Frank Chambers had lifted the stone, dug up the grave and stolen Shakespeare’s skull.

Mr Colls said: “The scan suggests something going on around the head. It led us to suggest that the area has been disturbed.”
