Have you not seen cases where Landlord cannot simply break door and remove the properties of a tenant whose rent has expired without a Court order? |
Politics / Re: Bolaji Ariyo, Owner oF Mami Chula Beach Declares Support For Lagos-Calabar Road by Babinski: 6:26pm On May 09 |
Emmastan291: I presume it is the same Bolaji Ariyo who is a former Local Government Chairman of Oshodi. Being a politician in Lagos under the Tinubu umbrella, it is simple wisdom for him to align with his boss I will be pleasantly surprised if Tinubu completes the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway even if he goes another term. I believe the rush serves the purpose of securing the beachfront for the Eko Atlantic Project which is also operated by the Chagoury owners of Hitech Construction. Sandfilling and development of the beachfront areas covered have been in the Phase 4, 5 and 6 of the Eko Atlantic Project Development Plan ans auppoaes to have been executed 10 yeara ago. However if any attempts have been made then to take over the beachfronts under a private project, there would have been uproar and even possible litigation. Getting an opportunity to tag it to a National Interest project in the Coastal Highway gets for the Chagoury and the Eko Atlantic Project what they have been unable to get in the last 10 years. That is why the Honourable Minister let it slip when he said and I quote: “I have directed that the beach should be shut down for tomorrow and there is no beach. The place is owned by people who are sand filling it, and at the end of the day, there is no more beach." The place is owned by the Chagoury who are sandfilling it. It is that simple. Even if the Coastal Highway Project stagnates outside Lagos and does not get completed, the Chagoury would have completed their Phases 4, 5 and 6 of the Eko Atlantic Project while hiding under the guise of public good. 1 Like

id4sho: The Judge is a wicked human being. Why set the bail so high and also adjourn the case for so long? So that they can be remanded in prison to suffer? The cost of daily feeding for an inmate in the Nigerian Correctional Center (aka Prisons) is N 700 daily. Feeding for 100 days is 70K. For the two of them that is N 140K. Now what is the sense in costing Government N 140K to feed people you accuse of stealing N 2,600.00 Bread? Anyway, the offenders may have been recalcitrant and infuriated the Magistrate. 1 Like |

stuffs2002: The law says the Police cannot hold you for more than 24 hours without charging you to Court. It is harassment and illegality when the Police holds a journalist based on purported crime and refuse to charge him to court after 24 hours. You cannot claim to be law abiding when you choose to obey only the laws that suit your purpose. |

Lifestone: Operating an investment business without licensing or registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is a violation of the laws of the country. What he was doing was illegal. If he was investing his own money by his own hands, there is no issue with that. But when you start collecting money from others to invest, then you are running an investment business. And that is not allowed by the law for a Civil or Public Servant. 1 Like 1 Share |

immortalcrown: The case is a criminal case and the offense is not against a person but the Federal Government. So the "out of court settlement" only refers to them working out a plea bargain between EFCC and the accused so there won't be need for long trial. The defendant may end up getting a suspended sentence or a more lenient sentence like a fine of 50K which is the minimum punishment recommended by law. To expect that he will walk free with zero punishment is a tall dream. They will still have to bring the teens of settlement back to the Court for the Judge to agree and adopt. |
Crime / Re: 11-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Ogun Hotel Swimming Pool by Babinski: 8:31am On May 02 |
Kizzygentle: The hotel is liable in this case. Why would you allow a minor that is not supervised by an adult into your pool area? Imagine their lawyer saying the boys rejected life jackets: 1. That statement confirms the hotel collected money and granted the minors unsupervised into the pool area. 2. In furtherance of the negligence of the hotel, they refused to deny access despite lack of adherence to safety regulations at the pool. The woman should contact Falana or any of these popular lawyers and sue the hotel. In fact the police should have taken up a case of criminal negligence and manslaughter or culpable homicide against the Hotel Manager that allowed the kids to swim. |
Politics / Re: Landmark: The Ocean Would Have Eroded The Beach Without Eko Atlantic - Dr Toks by Babinski: 12:35pm On May 01 |
Macphenson: It is difficult to argue against the Government taking over land for public good as long as the land owners are properly compensated. However, my fear about this whole issue is the possibility that after destroying properties in the name of a Highway for public good, the Highway becomes an abandoned, incomplete or delayed project such that the public good that should come becomes an illusion whereas lives have been damaged and huge public fubds expended without results. And that possibility is strongly there because of the following: 1. There appears to be more of the desire to start work rather than evidence of thorough planning regarding the Highway project. Have all rights of way been secured? Is the total project cost known? I find it curious that the Minister is talking about the toll charges at completion yet evasive about total project cost. 2. Eko Atlantic going by the master plan and phases in the development, is at least 10 years behind schedule. Phase 4, 5 and 6 should have been completed by 2015. Yet it is the same HITECH owners that are behind Eko Atlantic Project that have been awarded the Highway Project. That is not reassuring in any way. 3. HITECH Construction appear not to have good records particularly from projects executed by HITECH in Lagos like the Lekki road which was reportedly not completed and had to be concessioned. They are perceived as incompetent and nowhere near the standards of Julius Berger. |

parkervero: In physical interaction, if you just saw someone smoke weed, colorado or some other drug and starts to talk with bloodshot eyes, you are likely to simply avoid hom and not bothee to evaluate his comments fot any response, seeing that he is not in the right frame of mind. But on a faceless forum like this, he may actually have finished smoking the same substance with bloodshot eyes and then start typing the same things he would have talked about in the physical alternative earlier mentioned. Unfortunately you don't have the physical cues to evaluate him with. But when you read through the incoherent postulations nonetheless, you can get some guidance. And what I will say is, avoid the temptation to respond. It is hardly different from the physical interaction scenario. |
Religion / Re: No Prophet Married Only One Wife In The Bible - Olatosho Oshoffa by Babinski: 6:44pm On Apr 28 |
thesicilian: Marriage is not an institution invented or started by man; it is an institution ordained by God. God made marriage and he made it with the plan being very clear and unambiguous: it is a union between a man and a woman. Genesis 2:21–22; Genesis 1:27-28. In Genesis 1:23-24 it said the woman was bone of the man's bone and flesh of his flesh and “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh”. Note that the joining is to his wife AND NOT to his wives. Jesus while speaking about divorce in Matthew 19:5 reiterated that "so they are no longer two but one flesh". Note that it is no longer TWO but ONE flesh and not no longer MANY but ONE flesh.. So it is clear from the Bible that God's plan for marriage is one man, one woman. That Prophets in the Old Testament had many wives was not in obedience to God but only at best within his permissive will. That several "Men of God" in the Old Testament had multiple wives points to one of the factors that underlie the weakness of the Old Covenant and the need for the New. God has never showed any liking for polygamy despite being generally silent through the Old Testament on the issue. In fact in Deuteronomy 17:17 when talking about requirements for the future King of Israel, God specifically warned that he (the King) should not acquire many wives. For a fact, in all biblical accounts of men having multiple wives, there was conflict. From Abraham to David to Solomon. It is indeed polygamy and not monogamy, that it is an invention of man and we can all see the effects even through the Bible. There are practices that are customs of men and not God and polygamy as well as divorce are some of them. That was why in respect of divorce in Matthew 19:8-9 despite arguments that it was permitted, Jesus made it clear that it was not the original plan of God. And Paul's positions in the New Testament clearly correspond with God's plan for marriage. So claims that these are simply the opinions of Paul are weak and self serving. In fact, for a "Christian" to say that monogamy is not Biblical shows the level of understanding of the scriptures for such a person. 1 Like |

MrProlific95: Tigran Gambaryan is just a compliance executive at Binance. He is not the Chief Executive Officer who ideally is the Chief Accounting Officer responsible for decision making. His case is different from Zhao who was the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder and who had decision making powers. At the end of the day I cannot see how you can convict Gambaryan for something he has no power over. The Federal Government is just holding onto straws here. If they have a strong case they should go and file it against Binance in the US. Binance will not submit itself to the jurisdiction of Nigerian Courts and the Nigerian Courts do not even have territorial jurisdiction on them in the first place. |

IMASTEX: Silly kids getting high on Hamas misinformation and stupid sentiments. Let them take a trip to Gaza and observe freedom of speech and liberty under the Hamas regime. They'll quickly realize that their protests are only propaganda for Hamas and Hamas do not even value their (the protesting kids) lives one bit. I am not surprised because some of these kids romanticize the Hamas monster and its minions just like some romanticize and input human values to wild animals, talking about how cobras, tigers, lions and bison are cute and wouldn't even mind trying to pet those animals in zoos or snap selfies with them against conventional wisdom. If you are sympathetic to killers that didn't mind raping innocent women, murdering innocent and unarmed civilians, elderly and babies and even roasting babies in ovens for thrills, then you need your moral compass and brain checked. Some have made a case that Israel should only attack Hamas. It is a lame argument for several reasons: 1. The Palestinians whom you try to label as innocent actually aided and some even participated with Hamas in the October massacre. They cheered Hamas on and didn't see anything wrong wth the inhumanity and wickedness demonstrates by Hamas. 2. Hamas and Palestinians are comfortable launching missiles from school buildings, children playgrounds and hospitals despite knowing the effect and import of retaliation against such areas. They have therefore shown repeatedly that they do not value their children's lives. They would rather use them as human shields and collateral damage to curry international sympathy. When a man sees his children as disposable propaganda material in a war with you, he gains advantage over you when you try to value the lives of those children higher than the value he places on them, particularly when he is ready to treat your own children worse. Mr. Nice guy never won any war. 1 Like |
Crime / Re: Yahaya Bello: EFCC Withdraws Alleged Fraud Case At Appeal Court by Babinski: 8:30am On Apr 25 |
tunjijones: The OP and the quoted media house appear to be Yahaya Bello sympathizers trying to mislead the public. EFCC has not withdrawn any fraud case against Yahaya Bello! EFCC appealed against the order given by the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja in February that Bello should not be arrested. However, a Federal High Court had given order for Bello's arrest. So by 17th April the Kogi High Court amended its order to say that Yahaya could not be arrested except the Federal High Court orders it. Note that the Federal High Court has already ordered the arrest. So this is just a way of clearing the road by the State High Court. Now the appeal earlier made came up on the 22nd April at the Court of Appeal. By this time it is clear there is no point for the EFCC to continue with the appeal because the State High Court Order has already been amended to allow them exercise the Federal High Court arrest order without any impediment. So they simply withdrew the appeal and told the Judges the appeal has been overtaken by events. Now the "shallow thinking" Yahaya Bello sympathizers are trying to make it look like EFCC withdrew charges against Bello. That is not true. EFCC now has the right to go and arrest him anywhere they see him without bothering about the High Court again. 1 Like |

hisexcellency34: The events in Kogi State during Yahaya Bello tenure is prime example of why we need to reconsider our democracy particularly at the State level. Institutions at State level are very weak and Governors are nothing short of dictators without any reasonable democratic or institutional framework to serve as checks and balances on the Governors. State Houses of Assembly are nothing but glorified rubber stamps that are usually the first to be captured and subdued by the Governors. How can a Governor refuse for years to pay salaries or pay fractional salaries while receiving full monthly allocations and he still gets to complete 2-terms of eight years combined? So a Governor can simply be diverting huge chunks of monthly allocations for his personal use for years and still remain in power? Then what is the difference between such democracy and dictatorship? Just the 8 tenure year limit? I am very sure if State House of Assembly could extend the tenure of Governors, a lot of Governors in Nigeria now would be like Putin, serving unlimited terms. And that speaks volumes about our democracy and institutional checks and balances. |

Politics / Re: Nigeria, not yet ripe For State Police - IGP Egbetokun by Babinski: 8:28pm On Apr 23 |
Hezzyluv: The IGP is telling the truth. State Governors are dictators who have found ways to pocket the State House of Assembly that is supposed to be their check and balance in a democracy. Beyond the State Houses of Assembly, these Governors not only encroach upon but also turn the Local Governments to their fiefdoms contrary to the spirit and agenda of the Constitution. Even the State Judiciary is not left out of their influence since the Governors are in total control of the funds in the State and dictate who gets what. Now you want to give them State Police to further their power grab and tin-god agenda? That is a disaster waiting to happen. Have you read of the confessions of the Miyetti Allah National President who has been in detention for months now for launching a Militia in Nassarawa State? Did you read how he indicted the Governor as the source of the idea and funding of the militia even when it was contrary to the Constitution and how the State Police Commissioner and Director DSS couldn't tell the Governor the truth despite not being directly under the Governor and also knowing that what the Governor was doing was wrong? Are those the kind of Governors you now want to give State Police? Splendid235: You may make allusions to tribalism in the Governor's choice of Mrs. Titilola Adeleke as the First Lady. However, I do not see any immediate justification for your position. The choice of First Lady is at the discretion of the Governor when he has multiple wives. There must have been a reason for him to marry a second wife in the first instance. It is also said that the first wife had been in the United States for quite some time, meaning the Governor has been here all those while with the second wife. So before you make any allusions, investigate the relationship between the Governor and his wives prior to being a Governor and explore their history to be better informed. |
Celebrities / Re: Bobrisky Files Notice Of Appeal, Challenges Conviction by Babinski: 9:33am On Apr 23 |
Quest7777: When the prosecution has videos of you spraying money (Naira) at various events which by CBN Act amounts to mutilation? I have seen some commenting that you can claim to be spending "fake" or imitation currency but then you stand the risk of being accused of perjury (lieing on oath) which carries two (2) years imprisonment if it is eventually proven you sprayed genuine naira notes. Why will you risk 2 years for something that carries maximum of 6 months when inside yourself you know you sprayed Naira notes? Furthermore the burden of proof may shift to you to prove that what you sprayed are not Naira notes and how do you prove that? Judges are not idiots. Finally the offense of printing money or possession of counterfeit notes carries a sentence of 5 years imprisonment without option of fine. So in trying to run away from 6 months imprisonment, you need to be extremely careful not to run into 2 or 5 years imprisonments that are far more damaging. 2 Likes |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Jewish Population By Country by Babinski: 10:53pm On Apr 21 |
Benwems: Please educate yourself properly on issues. Israeli-Palestine conflict is not a secession matter. Israel is not Mandatory Palestine. Two States were created out of Mandatory Palestine by the UN in 1947 and one of them was Israel for the Palestinian Jews and the other for Palestinian Arabs. The Palestinian Arabs were not satisfied with the arrangement and wanted to eradicate the Jews and take over the land apportioned to Israel. As God will have it, despite the Palestinian Arabs getting support from other Arab countries, they lost the resulting War to Israel and Israel annexed some of the land. Instead of making a Palestinian Arab State out of the remaining land, the Palestinian Arabs not only chose to become stateless as refugees in the land but also decided to start calling themselves "Palestinians" (not Palestinian Arabs) to convey the wrong impression the land belonged to them. Since then the "Palestinians" have resigned to pursuing the agenda of terrorism which has stagnated their development, destroyed infrastructure and led to avoidable loss of lives. 1 Like |

However some Judges either due to pecuniary or other reasons continue to misbehave. It is not surprising that it is a Kogi State High Court that is trying to prevent EFCC from doing its duty in regard to Bello. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. You cannot get a court to give you a court order that is contrary to Constitutional provisions and then tell EFCC to appeal it or obey it.
