7 Brendaniel:My point is that Igbo and the North dominated the first 2 or 3 Republics and it is odd that the Igbo have suddenly become purported political victims to be pitied as being narrated by some. Below is an overview of Nigeria's republics, presidents, vice presidents, and senate presidents from independence to date. Note the absence of Southwest representation in the First, Second and Third Republics. In the Fourth Republic, South Eastern Region has Goodluck Jonathan as President for 6 years in addition to Senate Presidents. First Republic (1963-1966) - President: Nnamdi Azikiwe (1963-1966) - Prime Minister: Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1960-1966) - Senate President: Nnamdi Azikiwe (1960), Dennis Osadebay (1960-1963), Nwafor Orizu (1963-1966) Second Republic (1979-1983) - President: Shehu Shagari (1979-1983) - Vice President: Alex Ekwueme - Senate President: Joseph Wayas (1979-1983) Third Republic (1992-1993) - President: Ibrahim Babangida (1985-1993), Ernest Shonekan (1993) - Vice President: Augustus Aikhomu, Oladipo Diya - Senate President: Iyorchia Ayu (1992-1993), Ameh Ebute (1993) Fourth Republic (1999-Present) - Presidents: - Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007) - Umaru Musa Yar'Adua (2007-2010) - Goodluck Jonathan (2010-2015) - Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023) - Bola Tinubu (2023-present) - Vice Presidents: - Atiku Abubakar (1999-2007) - Goodluck Jonathan (2007-2010) - Namadi Sambo (2010-2015) - Yemi Osinbajo (2015-2023) - Kashim Shettima (2023-present) - Senate Presidents: - Evan Enwerem (1999) - Chuba Okadigbo (1999-2000) - Anyim Pius Anyim (2000-2003) - Adolphus Wabara (2003-2005) - Ken Nnamani (2005-2007) - David Mark (2007-2015) - Bukola Saraki (2015-2019) - Ahmed Lawan (2019-2023) - Godswill Akpabio (2023-present) |

Wisdomkosi:I will like the author to answer thse simple questions: 1. Why did Nnamdi Azikiwe of NCNC choose to play second fiddle to NPN when he could obviously have a better deal with Awolowo's AG to form National Government? 2. Why did Azikiwe (South East) and his group support a Unitary Government when the Ahmadu Bello (North) and Awolowo (Southwest) supported Federalism (an arrangement where the Regions are stronger than the Fderal center)? Note that if Nigeria has been a loose Federalism system as the North wanted, it would have been very easy for South East to pull out and become Biafra without bloodshed. 3. Why did Aguiyi Ironsi (a South Easterner) pursue Unitary Government through decrees once he attained power, which led to the current mess we found ourselves? 4..How did Azikiwe conveniently escaped the first coup by traveling out? 5. Why did Azikiwe secretly offer to support Aguiyi Ironsi's Government in any role given to him despite thr fact that same displaced the government in which Azikiwe was the President? I am not trying to absolve the British of their own role as colonial masters after their own interests. However, I am tried of the Igbo blaming everyone but themselves. |
Mattswaggz:The US acknowledged Nigerian support and cooperation on the matter. The Nigerian Government also confirmed it. So what's your own business making assumptions? |
SpyMaster1:The fact that people celebrate and enjoy during Christmas season does not make them hedonists. Hedonism is giving in to the pursuit of pleasure without societal, moral or religious restraints. And you cannot say that about people just enjoying the Christmas season. |
HgAkpobomeEr:When people talk about some men of god these days, you need to ask them which god in particular. For example Sango, Obatala and various other local dieties are gods to some. However, the God in Christianity is known for holiness and righteousness which His followers have been called to. If you see anyone, whatever he may call himself, purporting to follow Christ but engaging in conduct contrary to the dictates of Christ, then such is not a man of God but a man of himself, subject to his lusts, vices and sins that are preparing him for eternal damnation. |
Ruke1991:Let Dangote provide the figures. I have eveey reason to believe he is not being honest and truthful. It is the humongous gains he makes it Nigerian that largely contribute to his wealth. Cement could be sold for quite lower than that. |
fergie001:All these renaming of Universities and other Tertiary Institutions by politicians should be highly discouraged. You can name stadiums, streets or other monuments after anyone to immortalize him or her but avoid Tertiary Institutions because their identities are linked to academic certificates, researches and other important artefacts associated with the Institutions over the years. Don't disrupt that or create identity crisis because you just want to honour someone. |
Antoeni:You can be Olori Omo Oba and it may not be the turn of your Ruling House to produce the next King. The claim in some quarters is not that Wasiu is not an Omo Oba but that he is not from the Fusegbuwa Ruling House, whose turn is it to produce the next Awujale. |
naptu2:When a case is struck out for want of jurisdiction, any pronouncements made in respect of the matter for which jurisdiction is lacking do not carry legal weight. The fact that the Constitution granted extraordinary powers to the President to declare a State of Emergency does not automatically mean the President can remove Governor, Deputy Governor and House of Assembly, particularly when the same Constitution provides specific procedures for their replacement or removal. It is usually better we see the CTC of the Judgment rather than listen to these media stories and their sensational interpretations. |
seunmsg:What does a lecturer gain when you pass or fail his course or examination? Sometime it is not a matter of gain, which is a concept drawn out of corruption and selfishness. Suffice to say, you are asking the wrong question. Everything is not about gain or loss. |
ScamDemicEra:Russian Oligarchs, African political theives and cross country criminals who want to use the US as a base. Trump is deluded in thinking they would create jobs. The immigrants who built Empires in the US and created jobs could not afford such when they migrated. Is it Elon Musk, Sergey Brin or Jensen Huang, John Tu, Jay Chaudhry or Jan Koum, who are all now billionaires but started poor? Trump is not getting that right at all. |
Helinuse:If everyone likes you, then there is a lot wrong with you. People who take direction on how they live their lives from public likes and upvotes end up committing suicide. If there are people willing to use a feel good ontents as a political manipulation tool and they have problem liking you for defending yourself against unprovoked aggression, then so be it. They can go jump in the Atlantic for all you care. How many of those Hamas and Palestinian sympathizers can spend a week-long vacation in Gaza under Hamas and return home with their heads? Such crass stupidity is what's making Europe the new home of Islamic terrorists. |
muyico:Where in the Constitution or laws of the Federation of Nigeria does it say that the Judiciary cannot rule against an Executive Order? The issue is that the matter of her conviction was still the subject of appeal to the Supreme Court. So all judicial options have mot been exhausted, which makes the pardon granted and the subsequent reduction of the sentence to 12 years by Tinubu to be ultra vires. |
Ezeama400:Allow the OP to be deceiving himself in plain sight. The Quranic verse he is quoting clearly states that such is punishment for those striving against Allah and his messenger AND not against the society or constituted authority and yet the OP is blatantly misapplying it. The truth is that those quasi-jihadist bandits and religious terrorists shouting "Allahu akbar" while kidnapping people are difficult to restrain Islamically. There is abrogated in Islam and all earlier else's that appear peaceful and accommodating were revealed when Islam was still fragile and the Prophet needed alliances. They were subsequently repealed or abrogated by much more intolerant verses advocating fighting and killing the infidels later when Islam gained prominence and newer revelations emerged. Gumi is an Islamic Shiekh and yet do you see him condemn terrorism and banditry? No. When Trump rattled his Sabre to come and eradicate terrorists and bandits in the country, what have the Muslim and Islamic leaders and Scholars been saying? |
Racoon:Ideally Uche Nnaji should be facing charges of perjury and forgery while looking at prison time in excess of 10 years. That he is still sponsoring anyone in an attempt to victimize the people that exposed his lies is quite funny. Those claiming the VC went out of order should bear in mind that the Registrar had proven to be compromised or lacking in credibility by recantig her position on Nnaji's purported graduation months earlier. |
Maxymilliano:These PDP people are clowns. Who issues a Certificate of Expulsion? Not even Universities do that. Certificates are issued for achievements and not dishonorable conduct. |
ebukal67x:Just like Kanu stupidly created self inflicted wounds upon himself by his utterances, actions and refusal to open his defense during his trial, his South Eastern followers and sympathizers are choosing to harm themselves to spite a Federal Government that is less affected by any "sit-at-home" protest enforced through the sweat and blood of Igbo sons and daughters. Who will wake the Igbo from this path of self destructive sleep? |
RoxyBrownAutos:Comparing Nnamdi Kanu to Mandela is a disservice to the memory of the great Mandela. Take time to read about Mandela and you can clearly see the difference. Mandela started with peaceful protests and even when he escalated to the ANC armed wing, they targeted infrastructure and not civilians. After his release from prison, Mandela toed the path of Reconciliation to achieve his ultimate objectives. Kanu advocates for secession and creation of a Biafran State based on old boundaries where the Igbo would dominate and the rights of the minorities are not guaranteed. No referendum has been held to show that the non-Igbo covered under the Bifaran State such as Ijaws, Urhobo, Ishekiri, Anand, Ibibio, etc support the secessionnin any way. The lack of homogeneous support across the Biafra State and Kanu's pursuit of the agenda as an Igbo driven narrative already dooms the initiative and exposes its insincerity. Kanu employed divisive rhetoric (i.e. calling Nigeria as zoo), promoted civil disobedience (sit at home.orders and employed violence even against his own people, to enforce his illegal orders. Kanu's approach is polarizing, exclusionary and offers sectarian appeal only to his Igbo followers. There is no doubt that the highest number of casualties of Kanu's brutality and violence are to be found within the same Igbo people he is purporting to represent. He and his group have instituted a culture of fear such that the average Igbo is afraid to speak out openly against him or his supporter for fear of being targeted or killed by ESN or IPOB militants. When I reflect on all these, I have nothing but sadness and utmost pity for the Igbo if Kanu is the best person amongst them in the purported mold of Mandela, that they can come up with to lead them to their imaginary promised land. It is really nauseating. |
ebukal67x:This is the same social media legal counsel that Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor KSC lamented about that got Nnamdi Kanu swiftly convicted. Kanu was not lacking in legal representation. The fact was that he repeatedly chose to dispense with it even after several warnings from the Judge. We all saw his stance, even from the frivolous motions he was filing up and down. Courts hardly vacate judgements on the basis of self inflicted wounds. https://www.nairaland.com/8566830/social-media-lawyers-led-kanu-into |
SpaceX:There is no unrest that would come from the South East worse than what happened under the reign of Kanu and Ekpa. With both jailed, anyone trying to step into their shoes will think twice. The thinking was that being outside Nigeria, they were beyond reach. But that has been defeated now. |
Educationalserv:And the hundreds of other lives lost to the sit at home enforcement and other related atrocities in the South East. And not forgetting the lives and properties lost during the EndSars issue through Kanu's instigation and broadcasts. Anybody pleading for Kanu should be treated as a Terrorist sympathizer. It is that simple. |
Mrfixitt:What Kanu did against Nigeria, if it were some other countries, he would have been assassinated instead of being brought to the country to face trial. Kanu deserve zero pity for all the atrocities he committed against the people of Nigeria and even the South East that he claimed to be agitating for. He is a dangerous human being whom if he had been able to even facilitate the separation of Biafra that he claimed to be pursuing, would have turned himself into a wicked dictator who would feel Biafra belongs to him. |
LordIsaac:Kanu was not fearless. His desperation to avoid judgment when it became clear he was facing jail time was apparent to any keen observer. He was just plain stupid and actually a wicked and dangerous fellow. He believed that being in the UK, he was immune to prosecution and could do anything against Nigeria and get away with it. While Biafra advocacy and propaganda was one thing, it was another when it graduated to encouraging arson, killings and destruction during the End Sars protest and enforcing sit at home in the East. Not less than 500 to 1000 Nigerians lost their lives to the actions of Kanu. |
Truvelisback:Congratulations Private Emmanuel. At least you are going home with your life rather than following dangerous orders and being returned home in a coffin wrapped with Nigerian flag. Serving in a military where promotion is not largely based on merit is a risk because politics or quota system will not confer battle knowledge or skill upon the beneficiaries. Having a quota system commanding officer in a battle is a serious and major risk. |
I SpencerForbes:There is no experience in that CV to justify or give hope of any performance. The highest educational qualification in that CV is Senior Seconday School Certificate. How did he get employed as a teacher and Federal Staff with just Secondary School Certificate in the first place? |
immortalcrown:There is vundisputed video evidence of the parents assaulting the teacher. However, the claims of repeated assualtmonntheir child is lacking in evidence and quite weak because there is no history of complaint to the School Management. The child has been expelled, showing the Scholol did not condone the actions of the student and his parents. All the talk of preserving CCTV is just hogwash because it is purely speculative and a face saving strategy by the thug parents. |
Richtaiwo:There is no credible source for the story, so I want to think the OP is just plain joking. If what he is talking about is true, then the Senate must be joking. Even in the Military, you don't just take orders from anyone despite being superior to your boss. You take order from your leader or boss in your direct line or chain of command. And that is what you stand by even if a General comes along. Military is regimented and chaos or confusion has real costs for them. So you take orders from your direct chain of command, simple. |
ALTERNATEID:If they met resistance as claimed, the ideal thing to do is to record it for evidence and then escalate through proper channels. In this case, the Minister would have simply called the Chief of Defense Staff or Chief of Naval Staff and reported the issue for investigation. He had already been warned of resistance, so what was he going there to do? To confront them with superior firepower or what? |
mascot87:Did Wike secure any Court ruling for the planned demolition? I very much doubt it because he never said anything about Court ruling or judgement. In his usual way, he was there to exercise power beyond his mandate in defiance of the rule of law. So your claim that the rule of law lost is just plain laughable. Wike has never been known as a champion on the rule of law despite being a lawyer. |
Kemetian:Out of 5 black people in the world, 1 is a Nigerian. Nigeria is the most populous black nation in the world. So ideally, out of 5 successful blacks in any area, you should have at least 1 Nigerian. Ghana is barely more than some States in Nigeria. |
ebukal67x:The paper Amupitan wrote was written in good conscience. Did Tinubu also not claim in the past that there was Christian genocide? While some Mulsim figures are shouting now that the killings cuts across religion, are they not also the ones saying any fight against Boko Haram is a fight against Islam? From Buhari to El-Rufai, Gumi and others, were they not defenders of bandits and terrorists? How long did it take then to start condemning Boko Haram and others? Even then, rather than handle them the right way, they started granting terrorists amnesty and purported rehabilitation. Who does that? If they hold a counter position, then they should author their own paper with supporting facts instead of all these useless posturing on social media. To tell you how insensitive Government was, this was a paper written and submitted 5 years ago. Is Government just learning about it now or hey chose to ignore it over the years? |
