PMForce:The LRA's concept of the 10 commandments is different from the Biblical one. Even LRA has tried to clarify that. Furthermore, Christians do not live by the 10 Commandments because they are not under the Mosiac Law like Judaism. The Norwegian scholar Knut Holter has argued that what the LRA means by the "Ten Commandments" is somewhat loosely associated with the Ten Commandments as found in the Biblical text. Holter notes that the LRA have created new commandments that help propagate their ideology under the term the "Ten Commandments". One such example is the LRA's commandment given as "Thou shalt not smoke." In a speech, James Obita, a former secretary for external affairs and mobilisation of the LRA, adamantly denied that the LRA was "just an Acholi thing" and stated that claims made by the media and Museveni administration asserting that the LRA is a "group of Christian fundamentalists with bizarre beliefs whose aim is to topple the Museveni regime and replace it with governance based on the Bible's ten commandments" were false. Sources: Holter, Knut (28 February 2019). "Thou shalt not smoke: Content and context in the Lord's Resistance Army's concept of the Ten Commandments". PMForce:It is disingenuous and dishonest to label LRA as a Christian terrorist group. The LRA at best exhibits a syncretic blend of Christianity, traditional African spiritualism, and other religious elements. It is more a cult of personality formed around Joseph Kony. It does not rely on any Christian teachings or Biblical verses to perpetrate terror. In fact many people doubt the sincerity of Kony to any ideology or religion. Compare that to Islamic terrorists that find solace in Islamic verses supporting terror and seek to establish Shariah or Islamic states. Whereas it is easier to use the words and actions of Mohammad and some Quranic verses to support terrorism, it is extremely difficult to do same with the words and actions of Jesus Christ and Bible verses. That is why Islamic terrorist groups are by far the most common in the world today. |
mariovito:The shooter or house owner ought to have issued her a warning. It wasn't like she was inside the house. She was on the porch, a woman and unarmed. |
Chidibe212:When Shariah is cutting the hands and limbs of thrives, where is the forgiveness or consideration for the fact that they could become useful citizens later? You quote Jesus Christ on the issue of the prostitute, yet the Islamic recommendation s stoning to death under Shariah. We have seen how repentant Boko Haram terrorists have helped the fight against terrorism in the North. How the so called amnesty is just a balancing waste or funds and encouragement for insurgency in the North. Just keep quiet. |
Careartrust:Record several people from your neighborhood stating that the man first beat your wife before the wife joined. Let them state that it is the truth and they are volunteering the information without any threat or coercion. If possible, get them to make written and signed statements as well. Then package all the evidence in copies and show the DPO. If possible, get a lawyer to follow you. Evidence is what matter in court. |
chiagozien:Marshall was not speaking about Kanu's position. He only spoke about Kanu's right to file fresh objections but Kanu is not filing any objections. He is only refusing to open his defense. The two are different things. Don't mix them together. |
chiagozien:You apparently ignorant of court process or legal proceedings. You don't go to court to ask the judge stupid questions as a defendant. If Kanu's lawyers believe there is no constitutional grounds for his arraignment, they would have filed preliminary objections based on that and also reiterated same in the "no case" submission. All the grand standing on social media is nothing before the judge. Kanu has a case to answer whether he likes it or not. The earlier you admit that the better. See response from lawyers on Kanu's position:https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/831314-lawyers-speak-on-implications-of-nnamdi-kanus-refusal-to-enter-defence.html |
chiagozien:The Supreme Court sent Kanu's case back to the Federal High Court for trial after he challenged the manner he was abducted for trial. The question of jurisdiction therefore does not arise. Kanu is just trying to stall for time because he has no defense against the prosecution's case and the evidence tendered. For example, the recorded broadcast where he was urging carnage in Lagos. How does he defend against that? Will he day his voice was cloned or what? What the Marshall lawyer is saying is different from what Kanu is doing. Kanu is not bringing any formal objection to jurisdiction. He has disbanded his legal team and now trying to waive his defence. And the Judge is warning him that what he is doing is very dangerous because by dismissing Kanu's "no case submission", the Court already holds the position that he has a case to answer and without any credible defense, he is going to get convicted and sentenced. |
AngelGabbyShara:What is the business of the Police with the growth and development of Universities Staff? Simply limit your invitation on issues to peace and security. That is the area within your mandate as Police. |
LagosOrigin:Hmm... Such stupid statememt shared by a slowpoke. What Azikiwe and his Igbo brethren saw sitting down that made them remove secession clause from the Nigerian Constitution, only to learn years later that if the clause had been there, Biafra would have been a reality today rather than a landmark in history erected with the blood of millions of Igbo that perished in the war. Today, more than 50 years after, many are still begging and crying for what Azikwe’s foresight caused them. Yet we are all alive to witness what the Yoruba foresight they derided, achieved through Obafemi Awolowo in the Western Region. From first television station in Africa to Free Primary School education, Odua Group, Premier Hotels, Lagos Airport Hotel and more than 30 companies. aribisala0:These are Julius Berger Highway and Road Projects listed below. Please provide comparable list for Hitech Construction. 1. Airport Expressway, Abuja – 26.5 km section expansion by Julius Berger. 2. Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Section I – Lagos to Sagamu 43 km) 3. Lagos–Shagamu Expressway (43.6 km rehabilitation & reconstruction) 4. Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Highway – dualisation of 82 km section by Julius Berger 5. Repairs on River Niger Bridge 12. Third Mainland Bridge 13. Second Niger Bridge 14. Civil works on major projects like Tin Can Island Port and Abuja infrastructure |
Alaigbo:I do not dispute your other pints but Hitech Construction is in no way better than Julius Berger. In fact Julius Berger is much better. |
madridguy:The Northern Leaders will fall for the trap because Northern unity is a myth. The middle belt are just there for numerical strength, it is the core North that controls and want to keep controlling things. Even there, it is the Hausa-Fulani that see themselves as anointed leaders and foremost political beneficiaries. |
IamCookieStraw:The basis for all these retirement iextension is the extension earlier given to Professors in Academia. However, a Professor is different from a Teacher. Teaching requires more physical effort and doesn't involve research andn nnovation that matures or is not limited by age. A Professor may not need to stand lecture students to be useful to the University because he/she may be involved in research and supervising post graduate students. However a teacher will always need to stand and take classes with lots of talking which is more exerting as age increases. Teacher productivity will definitely drop with old age. Furthermore, attaining Professor rank requires a lot more than just being a teacher and involve specialization which is mot easy to come by. A teacher works with syllabus which is limited and can be teaching the same thing for 30 years. In fact the older the teacher gets, the more difficult to adapt to new things. |
imiski:I do not support or condone reprehensible conduct. A Bishop should not be found having sexual relations with a church member under any guise whatsoever. For you to be trying to label the situation as a woman playing the "victim card" shows you wholeheartedly support the Bishop and can do same. |
imiski:Our learned fellow who thinks consent is everything, maybe you'll volunteer as the Bishop's lawyer in Court? So your reasoning is that where there is consent, there can be no abuse? A lecturer sleeping with his adult student has no case to answer because of consent? Are you aware the law understands that consent may not be given appropriately under some conditions? A person operating under fear, duress and desperation may not exercise consent appropriately, particularly in such a manner that is against public policy or resulting in reprehensible conduct. Forget consent, the Bishop is an animal and has a case to answer on several issues. donproject2:You are wrong claiming no law forbids what she is trying to do. Actions capable of causing disturbance of public peace are criminalized in Nigeria. Relevant laws include: - Criminal Code (applicable in Southern Nigeria, including Lagos State): Sections 77-80 deal with offenses against public order, including: - Breach of the peace: Engaging in behavior that disturbs the public peace or causes a disturbance. - Obscene acts: Committing acts that are obscene or likely to outrage public decency. |
madridguy:It is easy to walk out. How many of them will take the same shit from Hamas? How many of them will even entertain Palestinian refugees in their country? I know Israel will not pander to such childish "peer pressure". It is a simple human truth that whoever seeks to please the whole world will lose in the end. The proportion of those who walked out is not up to 10% and quite insignificant. Israel should continue to obliterate its enemies and not sacrifice self defense and survival on the altar of political correctness. It is when you are alive that you can join any association. |
Ibechris2:"Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself; but talent instantly recognizes genius." -- Arthur Conan Doyle Today, the legacies of Awolow and his enduring aura in the South West far outweighs anything relating to Azikiwe in the South East by all metrics. People are still talking g about Awoism, wearing his caps, etc. Who remembers Zikism or follow the ideologies of Azikiqe in that manner? Awo had no equivalent across all the other regions. |
DomPerignon:Please provide sources to confirm that Ifeajuna, Nzeogwu and their fellow coup plotters weere Marxists. By the time the coup took place, Azikiwe had long abandoned his Zikist Movement which is not strange because he favored his business interests more than any ideology. https://rpublc.com/vol5-no3/nnamdi-azikiwe-zikism/ |
Kaliningrad:Apologies if you feel insulted but you are speaking from a position of ignorance. South Korea is far better than North Korea in almost all meaningful metric for measuring development, standard of living, wealth and economic progress. Someone may say the madman in your village square is more popular and vocal than you, but to what end is such popularity? North Koreans were once known as the travelers and traders of Korea. In the 1950s, after the Korean War, the industrialized North Korea was richer than largely agricultural South Korea. By 2002, South Korea had a GDP or $505 billion while North Korea’s was only $15 billion. Please take time to educate yourself. francis00:I don't know where that is coming from but one thing I am sure of is that State Police is not the solution to bandits in the country. Some State Governors have been alleged to negotiate with them and pay them ransom and even misrepresented the figures or covertly benefited from inflating the amounts. So is that the kind of State Government that will control their Police to stop bandits? |
Passionnn:It is all power play and strategies on who succeeds the President. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, who is the vice President is taking out and maiming possible contenders for the throne when his father, the President, dies or becomes incapacitated to continue ruling. First it was their powerful cousin Balthazar, who was shamed with the video leaks and recently sentenced to prison for embezzlement. Now it is Ruslan Obiang Nsue, one of the President's sons. Soon others who can give the vice president a run for the Presidency will follow. Ruslan Obiang Nsue cannot return the money because he has spent it. He may not be jailed but will be rendered useless by his big brother Mangue. That picture attached to the post by the OP is the picture of Mangue and not Ruslan. |
brownlolly:Here are some key historical sources about the Ooni of Ife’s origin and meaning: 1. History of the Yorubas by Samuel Johnson — details the Ooni’s descent from Oduduwa and his central spiritual role in Ile Ife. 2. The Frontier States of Western Yorubaland 1600 to 1889 by Biodun Adediran 3. https://books.openedition.org/ifra/389?lang=en |
lawani:It is a common historical account that the Ijesa people originally lived in Ile-Ife before migrating to Ilesa and environs. The Ijesa trace their origin to Owa Obokun in some accounts and to Owa Ajibogun in other accounts. Both were said to be sons or grandsons of Oduduwa. No genuine historical account affirms that Ile-Ife was ever under the protection of Ijesa. Oduduwa is widely agreed as the first Ooni. It is also widely agreed that Ooni is contracted from Oonirisa meaning "owner or custodian of the gods or dieties". Sorry to say but the "Omo Oluwo ni" story is no more than a feeble and laughable attempt at revisionism. |
brownlolly:The "Adimu" story is not supported by established historical accounts. It is highly unlikely that a slave would be elevated to Priest-King status and left in charge of an ancestral kingdom by Oranmiyan going by known Yoruba traditions and culture. The Ooni is also known as "Arole Oodua" (heir to Oduduwa). It is therefore clear that Oranmiyan as a descendant of Oduduwa would be very unlikely to thrust a slave into the role of an heir to Oduduwa by installing the slave on the throne of Oduduwa. |
Exousiang01:There is no historical support of the claim that Oranmiyan left Oyo to contest for Ooni of Ife as implied by Lere Olayinka. There is also no historical support for any claim that Alaafin of Oyo was a subject of Ooni of Ife. It is widely acknowledged historically that Oduduwa was the first Ooni of Ife and some historians also claim Oranmiyan was the 3rd or 4th Ooni of Ife before leaving for Benin Kingdom and then Oyo. There is no doubt that the Ooni of Ife role is a Priest-King. However, to.claim that the Ooni of Ife was just a lineage of priests and not a descendant of Oduduwa does not align with the historically conduct and traditions of the Yoruba. It is very doubtful that the descendants of Oduduwa would be comfortable having a non-descendant priest sit on the ancestral throne of their father. The titles of Ooni Adimula and Arole Oodua ("Heir of Oduduwa" are difficult to explain from a non-descendant view point. While well known Obas tracing descent from Oduduwa have not generally ceded any superiority politically to the Ooni of Ife, they have nonetheless respect the Ooni of Ife as the Arole Oduduwa and custodian of their historical and cultural heritage. To think they would cede such important role to a non-descendant is irreconcilable with Yoruba historical conduct and traditions. |
frisky2good:The Ooni of Ife is the custodian of Yoruba cultural heritage and regarded as the spiritual head of the Yoruba nation. That is the respect Ypruba people worldwide regardless of geography, have for him, with a believing Ile-Ifr as the ancestral home of Yorubas. He has the unoffi ial influence by virtual of his cultural and spiritual significance to the Yoruba nation, to appoint anyone to a role in the Yoruba nation. On the other side, the Alaafin of Oyo has historically significance as the most powerful ruler in Yoruba history, with an empire spreading beyond Nigeria. However, that political influence has earned over the years and he is just a symbol of history. He does not resonate with the Yoruba nation the way the Ooni does. How many Yoruba in diaspora.amd across countries will invite Alaafin and to what purpose? He has no cultural or spiritual significance to the Yoruba nation. |
madridguy:He mad his intentions known with the concluding statement that she would not be disappointed as he would be giving her a nice time. That speaks a lot about the people around d the corridors if power I this country. That is a Governor's Special Assistant openly lusting after an unruly woman apparently from the exposure of her breasts. I would not be surprised if she is welcomed like a hero to her home State. |
bixton:The air hostess blocked her purportedly to prevent her from.leaving before the Security Personnel arrive. Ms. Comfort may have grounds for claiming false imprisonment against the hostess or airline. She even has claims for them dehumanizing her because someone apparently dragged her blouse to expose her indecent and she was recorded and posted on the internet like that. But on her side, Comfort made several errors like assaulting people repeatedly, damaging airline property and being generally violent and aggressive. |
bixton:Firstly, there was no video evidence to corroborate the allegation that KWAM 1 poured water or liquor on anyone. Secondly, I have stated that assaults are usually taken personal by the person assaulted and such persons typically drive resulting or consequential actions. In the Pilot case, it is apparent she decided not to escalate it or take it personal, assuming the allegation is true. In the Ms. Comfort Emmanson case, the assaulted people took it up. Assaulting security or Police Officers is typically a different ball game from general civilian. |
kodded:The issue of airplane mode may not be acceptable to the Airline and you have to respect that. With airplane.mode, while using the phone, you could directly or by mistake switch it from airplane mode when the air hostess is no more around. So they have to rely on your integrity to keep it on airplane mode. That is outside their control and ideally you try to mitigate all risks as much as possoble. Switching off is the best option. |
