I have made the payment, I have received a mail that said paymemt complete, in that mail is a link to book for appointment, which I have done. I have gotten an appointment slip. Just proceed for capturing as long as you've made payment and booked an appointment.

No, I didn't take any letter with me. And those three are exactly the documents I submitted. Mind you, mine is a fresh application and not a renewal

Have you checked your spam folder? You can try your luck and proceed to the NIS office to continue your application even if you haven't received the approval mail yet. I never knew anything about the approval when I went for capturing today.

My Experience at NIS Abeokuta



I arrived at the Abeokuta NIS office at 7 AM. I met a security officer at the gate who told me I can only be allowed inside until 8 AM. By 7:50, we already had a crowd of about 70 people waiting at the gate to go in. At 8:05, an NIS officer came to address us at the gate. He asked for the elderly to come forward first, followed by the physically challenged, people with kids, and pregnant women. There, we were asked to present our appointment slip (for those capturing) before entry. You can also show them this on your phone. Next, we were marched to a reception where we wrote down our names and given a tag number (I was the first to arrive but I got tag 25).

Afterwards, we were taken to a holding area that looks like a typical lecture hall.

After some minutes, some officers came to call out the names of people whose application has been vetted. I assume these people have come to submit their applications before today. However, it was my first time there and my application hasn't been vetted. The only thing I did was fill out the application form and pay online.

People in my category were then told to go to one area at the reception to vet our application. After that, we were asked to wait at the holding area, meanwhile they called out the first 40 people having tags 1-40 to head upstairs for capturing.

I was holding tag 25 so I went to meet the officers and asked if I should follow that set of people but I was told to wait behind.

Then the wait began.

I was in the holding area till about 11:30 AM when one officer came to call my name. I followed him upstairs to the capturing room and I was done with capturing at 12:01 PM.


In summary, I was at the NIS office in Abeokuta for a fresh passport application today. I got there at 7 AM and left at 12 PM. The experience was smooth and the officials were professional.


Documents I went with (2* copies each):

1. Payment receipt
2. Appointment slip
3. Application slip

Adult (18 years and above)

Letter of identification from local government/state of origin or residence or letter of introduction for employees of government as a Nigerian citizen stating service number, length of service and designation/rank. The letter must be accompanied with a valid staff identity card.
Completed passport application form.

Marriage certificate ( married women only).

Birth Certificate (certificate issued by the National Population Commission shall be required from applicants whose date of birth is with effect from Dec 1992) or Age Declaration (if you were born before 1992) attached with one passport-sized photograph and duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.

Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused here. Which of these applies to someone applying for the first time? Also, I learnt that one has to go with a guarantor's form, etc.

I applied for a passport online on May 30.
I uploaded my NIN, birth certificate, and photograph on the website. I selected Uyo office as my preferred office for capturing and collection.
I paid a sum of #36400 online with my debit card.
Then I printed out the application slip and payment slip.
I was given a date in June as appointment for capturing and biometrics
I went to NIS office in Uyo on the date and was attended to early. The official snapped my picture and I also did thumbprint. He gave me a passport tracking number and told me to expect an email from the office.
I didn't receive an email after six weeks so I went back to the office to check and passport was ready for collection.
It was a smooth D.I.Y process

As he is, he has equal chances with someone who studied Microbiology, Biochemistry or Genetics to proceed and obtain a Msc or PhD in genetics-related fields. Talk about molecular genetics, human genetics, computational genomics, bioinformatics, medical genetics, etc etc.
