These Superhero wànkers cannot explain why the same "non-general audiences" on Twitter bashed The Marvels, The Flash, Quantumania and they all flopped...

Who are their so-called "general audiences". Do they exist in a vacuum or what? grin

Oppenheimer and Barbie had cràzy social media promotion and they performed well...
People were making edits all over social media...Twitter, Reddit, tiktok...

They made these movies must-watch and everyone flocked to watch them...

But apparently they are "not general audiences"

Why didn't Guardians of the Galaxy 3 bomb though? Or is that one not a superhero movie?
this is why you shouldn't jump into the middle of an argument without reading from the onset.

when hogwarts legacy was released there was so much noise on twitter about boycotting the game. in the rea world the game sold like no mans business. social media is ultimately not a reflection of reality. it is just a reflection of first world problems
There was noise from different sides...

Supporters and defenders...stop making it seem as if everyone on social media was against it...all to fit your agenda...

And you and your guy are yet to explain why The Marvels bombed or The Flash or Antman Quantumania bombed...
Shebi it's only social media noise... grin grin

The same social media that helped these movies bomb is the same social media that promoted Oppenheimer and Barbie...and made tons of memes about watching both...

Reddit is ultimately an echo chamber. There are multiple media I see people knocking and issues where people push for boycotts. A lot of noise but no real world response.

You can look to reddit for reviews, but the atmosphere there rarely has any effect on real world numbers.
is Twitter also an echo chamber? grin

I can't follow you to engage in your Tomfoolery with strawman arguments.
No be me you go scam to your level.
It's like you read things and understand upside down. It's pitiful. All in a bid to desperately win an argument. 😂😂😂

Can't be engaging in a merry-go-round on a topic I've stated my opinions about numerous times here. I know you very well. I'll give you instances and reasons each one failed but you'd find a way to make nonsensical assumptions and postulaions about it all. So why waste my time?

Cos you already have a made up mind and there's no convincing it would take to change your perception. Even in this argument I've already stated a few reasons some of those films failed but you're blind to see it or you just purposely ignore and reply to things that suit your narrative.
No be you again wey we Sabi for this thread.
😂😂

So don't come here pretending as if you're seeking objective argument.
I'd leave you to your delusion. That's all for today.

abduleez1:
At this point it's obvious engaging you in an argument would no doubt end up a reductive discourse.

Seeing how naive you're I used NL as a case example. While Twitter or Reddit is a far bigger pool, anyone reasonable will know (movie section) is a minute subsection of Twitter as a whole.
Since, you need someone to break it down for you: the typical average moviegoer is termed as "general audience" not fans who follows a film right from development stage, knows the director, cast, writers and producers and some even know the storyline being adapted. THATS NOT "GENERAL AUDIENCE". They might hear about a movie, know about a movie coming out but they ain't as invested to the craft as a film enthusiast would.
These are people that find it hard to differentiate DC from Marvel. And the same ppl you cry everytime they lump animé the same as animation.
Fans of course also make up the general audience, but they're also a small minority in the entire make-up of a movie-going audience and are different from your typical moviegoer. Know the difference. undecided

If someone said you have comprehension problems now, one would look abusive.

I've only said I don't presently believe in Superhero Fatigue cos all the said flopped movies all have peculiarities of their own flopping.
Just maybe when same fate happens to Aquaman 2 and it fails spectacularly like the last few CBMs, then maybe I might believe it.
Also, I've been hearing "Superhero Fatigue since 2019. What's to say this is any different? Y'all said this last year and the 4 out of the top 10 Hollywood highest grossers are CBMs.

Where I'll really start to feel concerned is when really good CBM films start to perform as worse as this year's films.
So in essence, it's a question of "Bad Movie Fatigue".
As expected, you have chosen to beat around the bush once the holes in your argument have been pointed out.

You have failed to properly explain why these so-called General audiences refused to watch movies like The Marvels, The Flash, Antman Quantumania, etc - The exact same movies that those you called "not-general audiences" bashed

You have also failed to explain why it is the exact movies with negative outlook on Twitter, Reddit and other social media have ended up bombing. You have failed to explain how everyone knew The Marvels would bomb just because your "non-general audiences" said it would be terrible and not worth watching

Several replies now by you, yet you have chosen to beat around and avoid these questions.
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Baddestguyp(m): 4:08pm On Nov 20, 2023
abduleez1:
Lol, as usual you begin to cry when someone starts poking holes in your logic.

Twitter and Reddit are known echo chambers and the majority of general audiences don't have their major section as Film Twitter.

Using Nairaland as a case study, majority of peeps here aren't even on film twitter and care shït for it. Some don't even know the intricacies of franchises and just watch shït as the spirit leads. Abi no be this thread if people start in depth analysis of Hollywood and filmmaking business, half the thread will start shouting "DEVIATION" or "DERAILMENT".

So assuming online nerds/enthusiasts or industry professionals on social media as general audience is a funny assumption.

The Marvels and any other films you'll want to use as examples, were they loved or supported by the fans?? CBM fans already hated these movies long before they came out sef.

There's no successful comic book movie that doesn't have the support of the fanbase first before general audience. The fanbase are the ones that are going to jump in watching this movies on early screenings, premiere night and so on. They're the ones that will create the initial Word of Mouth before general audiences now flock in to decide if it's worth their time.

The Marvels in particular was already hated cos it's Femcentric and features characters no one gives a fvvk about. Is the movie good? Is it an important character?
If the fanbase themselves don't love a project, there's no way general audience will support especially when it's a mediocre film in the first place.

So anyone lacking these context, I'm sorry I can't take your position seriously. Especially when you're a known propagator of "what-aboutism".

I'm sorry if I task you extra special to bring facts about the problems facing CBM at present. I feel someone just saying "Superhero Fatigue" as the sole reason barely knows what he's saying or just goes with the crowd; which is easier to do since almost everyone is currently shitting on it. So it easily hides the deficiencies in one's argument.

I'm too enmeshed in CBM social media discourse that's it hard to just come and drop cliché statements like CBM fatigue and I'll believe you. Just making blanket statements and I'll know you're bullshiting.
You are contradicting yourself.

You act as if the people on Twitter and Reddit are not part of the general audience.

You use the word General Audience as if they are some special group of people who have no affiliation with movie discourse on any platform.

You cannot compare Nairaland to Twitter or Reddit. Nairaland is a Nigerian forum and Nigeria contributes very little to global box office. Comparing that to Twitter or Reddit is quite funny.

You are still yet to properly explain why the "General Audience" refused to watch The Marvels, Antman Quantumania, The Flash and co"

If you say it's because The Marvels is female centric, then what about the other movies?

Even your excuse of the movie being female centric or woke or whatever cannot fly because it is these same "non-general audiences on Reddit and Twitter"
(according to you) that blast movies for being too female centric and woke...

As you can see, you are vastly contradicting yourself.

Whether or not you choose to admit it, these same people on Reddit and Twitter are part of the people who make up the actual general audiences and their views count.

Their memes count, the backlash they give movies count.

It was these same people that bashed the Netflix Cowboy Bebop adaptation that made it flop and Netflix cancel it....

But according to one abduleez1 on nairaland, they are not part of the general audiences grin grin

It is funny how you somehow think all the backlash and memes of a terrible movie and a terrible CGI of The Flash all over Twitter did not affect the box office of the movie

The fact is that even those who aren't very active in movie discussions, if everyone on Twitter is calling a movie a terrible waste of time, it affects their own perception and choice as to whether to watch it or not.

Superhero Fatigue is a real thing...it should not even be up for argument...
Until you can explain why your so called "General audiences not on Twitter and Reddit" refused to watch certain movies, then you should better admit it.

When cowboy movies and other past movie genres were dying, copers like you also said it was "bad movies" that audiences were getting tired of and not the genre...

Better stop coping and accept the fact that audiences are getting tired of your beloved Superhero movies.

If you yourself are not tired of it, other people are tired

BRUV, all this you're saying is premium SHALAYE PRO MAX!!
Reddit and Twitter noisemakers are different from regular moviegoers.
All this one na undue SHALAYE because your blanket statement of "Superhero fatigue" doesn't account for contexts.

If you want to shout fatigue, then it must apply to almost all in the genre.

You'll shout fatigue from now till next year but new Batman, Superman and Spiderman films will still bring in fans regardless of any useless fatigue or not.

To trash your multiverse shït talk.... Isn't it the same multiverse story that Multiverse of Madness used to make almost $1bn not too long ago? SpiderVerse? The same thing with $690mn. And LOKI is charting at present.
So all those talk is in y'all bubble in your heads.
You can't just exclude these "great" movies and then give generalistic views cos these said movies are all CBMs.

If it's real good, people will come flocking.
All the aforementioned flops you people like using as examples are all bad to average films. Name ONE really good CBM movie that have flopped in the last two years and has widespread appeal?? I'm waiting.

So my stance still stands, "Superhero Fatigue" ain't really a factor in CBM struggle but a myriad of other things I've said before as well as other people's contribution on the topic.
As usual you refuse to believe in Superhero Fatigue.

You talk as if these people on Twitter and Reddit are not part of the so called "General Audiences" that watch these movies.

Is it not the same people who saw the trailers of The Marvels and concluded it wasn't worth their time?

Is it not these same people who memed about The Flash and gave it bad publicity and memed about bad CGI and empty seats at cinema?

The movie bombed now and you're claiming excuses. Tell me how your so-called "General Audiences" knew The Marvels would be bad.

Are these people not the same ones who saw the trailer and decided it is not worth their time?

If their opinion does not count, then how come The Marvels and many other CBM flopped?

Whether you believe it or not, Superhero Fatigue exists and audiences are experiencing it

You can cope all you want, but you cannot change facts.

5. Hard reboot the MCU and start over with the X-Men.

The X-Men stories reflects the real world so much, it can be character driven and grounded. With the X-Men we get to see themes of discrimination, racism and politics with real world consequences and characters with flaws and moral struggles.
It would show the grey areas of what it means to be a "superhero" in a modern "realistic" world.

A deep and grounded take on the superhero genre.

Something serious and entirely different from what we've been getting all these years.

I doubt the MCU will do something like this tho.
the MCU will most likely follow the same generic script they've been using for years.

With the X-Men being part of the MCU, they'll make it PG-13 and won't handle serious issues, just like the other MCU movies

3 hours podcast discussing the Attack on Titan finale, it's themes, messages, takeaways, author's mindset, fans mindset etc...

One thing they mentioned is how it seems like a lot of people who hated the ending have this immature way of thinking...
About how these people self-insert themselves into characters...and how they failed to understand the author's story, intention and messages

It's the only reason why they got angry because the war and conflict did not end...

Just like how the people who idiolize Floch and call him "King Floch" do not even understand the essence of his character.

Instead of understanding the characters or the author's messages, they create their own wrong view or interpretation of it and get angry when their headcanon is not confirmed...

You can clearly see this in the so-called fan ending where these "fans" create their own "Alpha male edgy" version of characters, while completely ignoring everything the characters stood for throughout the series...

Why I hate Titanfolk and will continue to see them as a bunch of immature kids who did not understand the themes or story they claimed they were once fans of...

This theory is still up for debate. 🌚🌚

It's more of bad movie fatigue and the economy. Nk one has time and resources to waste on a potentially bad or mediocre film right now. Coupled with most things Oyaskii has said already with the COVID era bringing expectations to viewers of seeing films earlier on VOD.

I'm yet to see a really good CBM movie flop spectacularly at the box office presently. 5 months ago we had GOTG 3 doing over $800mn.
The Batman over $770 over a year ago and other strings of MCU films doing pretty good in 2022.
Loki is being praised presently and amongst the top charting shows.

These are bottom barrel character movies flOPPing not established or popular characters. And then there's the rise of other genre's evident in BARBIE, OPPENHEIMER and MARIO.

If Aquaman 2 somehow makes around $550mn and above if it's good, then I believe superhero fatigue is just hogwash and more of films audiences rejected. Every genre has its ups and downs period.
This is for the CBM genre.
Bro...the fact is that Superhero Fatigue exists...

You want proof? I myself am proof of it already...
And I know many people that are the same. They are burnt out by these movies cos they follow the same structure.

A great way of fixing this is by subverting from the norm.
A lot of Superhero movies troupes and structure are already tiring to the audience.

The Batman works because it's more grounded...it didn't follow the usual format we see these movies follow.

Same as why a Joker 2 movie will perform well. Because it is a Superhero movie that doesn't feel like one...as it doesn't follow the same overused structure and troupes...

Guardians 3 and Spiderverse are movies with characters that the audience already resonate with before the Superhero Fatigue became a thing...and as such, the audience would follow the characters to their conclusion.

Also, what I can assure you is that one guaranteed way of killing CBM is to focus on the MULTIVERSE.

You should have seen comments when the news broke that Invincible S2 would explore the MULTIVERSE. Even on the subreddit they discussed how Marvel and DC had completely killed the concept so much that the regular audience hate that word.

Luckily so far Invincible is handling it in a way that isn't exhausting.

Regular Audience don't want to hear the word "Multiverse"

The worst second weekend drop for the whole genre cry

Christ in heaven, that is so horrible

The superhero genre is at an all time low right now

This is what happens when moviegoers completely rejects a movie.

The same happened to Flash.
I've said it before but some people will keep denying it

SUPERHERO FATIGUE EXISTS!!!

The recent bombs are a combination of Bad movies + Superhero Fatigue

You can't keep recycling the same plotlines and expect people not to get fed up...

Marvel needs to do a few things imo:

1. Reduce the amount of Superhero content they release
2. Increase creativity and stop following the same formula
3. Avoid anything that has to do with the word "MULTIVERSE" - this word is a timebomb that kills audience interest
4. Focus on character driven stories rather than the whole saving the world or universe crap - be more grounded and relatable

They should make it bloody and not family friendly at all. It's should have gore and blood like the boys then they'll make money from it. Repeating the dame formula with no change would produce the same result. Failure at the BO
it doesn't need gore like The Boys...

I like The Boys but I don't like the way it uses gore. The gore is just used as fanservice and to be edgy.

Invincible applies gore in a better way. E.g the scene with Mark and Nolan, some scenes where Mark is trying to save civilians from an alien attack and fails...

The gore is used to send a message, to develop characters, to show Mark how he can't save everyone etc...

The Gore in The Boys is mostly used as fanservice just to show that the show is fûcked up...
How many times do we need to see pènises explode?

X-Men should not be PG-13 but it doesn't need to glorify gore. The old X-Men trilogy did not need to glorify gore to be mature.

A mixture of both and some other contributing factors.

The "Superhero Fatigue" rizz is down to MCU/Disney themselves practically releasing Super hero content every market day for the past 3 years, and most of these projects are of low quality, so people generally have a 90% confident of them not releasing any quality material going forward so movie goers tend to stay away.

Bad movie fatigue too. Like i have stated here before, a good movie is a rare find these days, so the ROI on movies is at an all time low.

The Covid pandemic VOD shebang also did a number on the movie industry. People know how quickly these movies become available to stream now, a month tops most times, so why risk going to the Cinema to see a potentially bad movie whilst you can stream/download it within a month? These things would surely hurt BO numbers.

A billion dollars BO movie, would be a very rare find going forward.
@ bolded
It's so easy to tell nowadays the movies that are not worth our time and money...

Everyone already knew The Marvels wouldn't be worth spending so much to watch...

Same as everyone already knows Madame Spider won't be worth it...

People would rather spend on a movie they are sure is worth the quality...

But for Superhero content, I feel the best way is for it to deviate from the norm. People are tired of the same formulaic and predicatable superhero content...

That's why people still love The Boys and Invincible, as they deviate from the norm...

Imo, Marvel should abandon these nonsense they're doing with Kang and focus on the X-Men...

But even with the X-Men they have to get things right...I feel like with X-Men there is more room to manuever in it's story...and even go dark...

Unlike the happy go lucky comedic superhero movies they've been churning out

The X-Men despite being superheroes don't really feel like them...
