Are there no pharmacies and drug stores in Igbo land? As a matter of fact, Onitsha has the largest open drug market in Nigeria (at the bridge head). You can buy any medication there without prescription. They sell medications there the same way clothes are sold in shops. How come Anambra doesn't have the highest rate of drug abuse?

You see a man striving to make ends meet in a country in which the government and politicians don't give a damn, and you blame him for plying his trade?

Check out the most recent news about Nigerians doing great outside the country in the past 2 months. Most of them are Igbos. Remember the first black Italian Senator, the first black British Ambassador, the first Nigerian professor of Law at Havard (Dehlia Umunna) and so on. These are news that were shared on Nairaland in the past 1-2 months.
If you come back home in the area of academics, Igbos are leading in most examinations now from Unity schools entrance, WAEC and NECO SSCE, JAMB etc. It shows the natural potentials Igbos have to stand out in everything they put their hands in. That's grace.

Last I checked codeine and Trammadol are not banned in Nigeria neither is their sale regulated.

The North should either call for an outright ban of of the sale of opiates or call for heavy regulations in their sale.

Create an enabling environment in Nigeria, and see Igbos excel in EVERY sector. When the environment isn't enabling, Igbos create the opportunities for themselves.

Really? Please when was this law passed? As at January this year, the National Assembly was proposing a new bill for NAFDAC, that would restrict the dispensing of codeine-laced cough syrups across the counter, but it had not been signed into law yet.



Consumers are merely advised to take codeine containing cough syrups, on prescription by health care professionals, but pharmacists are not compelled to sell the cough syrups only on prescription, like they do for Tramadol and Valium/Diazepham. However, most pharmacists restrict the sale of codeine-laced cough syrups to just 1 or 2 bottles per patient.

In the North, there have been reports of youths requesting to buy a whole carton of codeine laced syrups, from chemists and pharmaceutical outfits. Some ethical pharmacists refuse to sell such quantities to them. I mean how serious is that cough, that you would need a whole carton to cure it?

Go to Kano or any other state in the north, enter into any drugstore and asked to be supplied codeine and you will be denied, but just approach the greedy ibo patent drugstore owner and its yours at ease.
