On the Basis of popular support from their people on the issue and on the issue of common purpose. If all the igbo politicians and igbo business elites and masses advocate for Biafra, Northern politicians would be forced to listen.

Ever other region has some parasitic interests in Nigeria outside the Niger Delta or south south, so it's the south south that holds the ace for obvious reasons.
The igbos need the support of the South South to get any traction on their Biafra agitations, but instead of courting the south south, the igbos are arrogantly trying to force their Biafra agitations on the south south.
If the igbos can get the south south to agitate for Biafra, the North would be forced to listen.

Politics is politics anywhere in the world. You negotiate based on your advantages and weaknesses. You give and take. It is not easy, but it is more effective than the alternative - war.
Niger Delta was able to agitate for an increase in derivativation, from 0% in 1999 to 13% presently, the goal is between 25 - 30%.

The Yorubas were able to negotiate with the north for the presidency after their tribesman was denied same in 1993.
The Ogonis are still agitating for clean up of their environment and reparations for decades, they have even won numerous court judgements against shell both locally and internationally. The FG has even claimed to have started the clean up after an elaborate launching. Even though the FG and Shell are still playing games, eventually, they would be forced to accede to the agitations of the Ogonis.

It might take 300 years. Catanonia has been fighting for a referendum for centuries. Scotland fought for independence for centuries and it took centuries before they were granted referendum, even though referendum was inserted into their constitution.

The problem of African is wanting everything instanta, separation is a slow, arduous and painful process, even under normal circumstances (look at Brexit ), it is infinitely harder under crisis conditions.

You have not provided your opinion the alternative to the political process. Do you advocate for Kanu and his group to continue to disturb the peace of the South East? Do you advocate for Kanu and his group to put the lives of ordinary south east citizens who are not members of IPOB at risk?
Do you advocate Kanu insulting and threatening ordinary Fulani citizens and calling them all sorts of names, thereby putting the lives and businesses of ordinary igbo people in the north at risk?

Point of correction oga, kanu has not and is not putting the life of any south easterner in danger. It's your barbaric federal government that is killing innocent citizens for demanding for a referendum. And here you are trying to change the narrative by putting the blame on Kanu who is only demanding for the freedom of his people. You see why I earlier said the reasoning of an average Nigerian works anti-clock wise. Tufiakwa unu.

On the basis that they are thinking human beings, open to persuasion. The North's only "parasitic interests" is Niger Delta oil. Believe it or not, the SE really isn't that strategically relevant to Nigeria. It's the least endowed with natural resources and minerals. It's the tiniest region by landmass by far. It's landlocked and is the only region with no international borders. We're frankly not that relevant to the interests of the North.

Money didn't need to change hands for the NE legislators to successfully lobby for a North East Development Commission with tens of billions of Naira in extra funding years after they destroyed their own zone with Islamic extremism. If you cannot get your elites to champion the cause of the grassroots, then you're frankly not worth listening to. It is up to us to compel our politicians to fight for the cause. Not making empty noise on Facebook. Again, even the civilized countries in question didn't grant referendums just because some agitators demanded it. It took decades of painstaking, patient work to successfully lobby for it, because no country wants to weaken its unity and territorial integrity. If Ipob agitators are too lazy to do their homework and do what it takes, then they can't be taken seriously. Successful agitation and activism is more than just shouting "zoo" upandan and insulting other Nigerians. This is why I have kept saying Ipob is not a serious intellectual movement and it just became an unserious cult of Nnamdi Kanu.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's up to us to try. Two things are for sure:
1) The democratic process is the only way to accomplish it. Failing this, war is the only other option and I can assure you its easy to make noise about war on Facebook or Nairaland, but a much different prospect in the real world.
2) Nothing will certainly be achieved by election boycotts. It simply makes zero sense. I have asked several advocates of this what exactly they intend to accomplish and how it will be accomplished and the next line of action when the election boycotts continue to fail and I have never gotten any sensible answer. It's like going on hunger strike when those you are striking against couldn't care less if you drop dead or not. Take the Presidential election, for example: why the hell would Buhari give the slightest fuckks whether Igbo people vote or not? What will it take away from him? grin On the contrary, he knows Igbos despise him and wouldn't even want them to vote. Why would he care whether Igbos vote or not? What will your election boycott achieve. Name one thing.

Are you saying you are not imagining the out come of the fact that an entire section of a country wilfully refuses to participate in an election?

Obi1kenobi:

There are only 2 ways to achieve Biafra:
1) through a painstaking political process involving grassroots mobilization, election of politicians that sympathize with the cause, and hard, assiduous lobbying from those elected officials to get a referendum. That is how it is done in the civilized world. It takes political organization, persuasive mobilization, and a lot of patience, but that is the only civilized way to do it. Many Scottish politicians have lobbied hard for a Scottish independence referendum for decades, before they finally got to vote on it. Same with Quebec in Canada. Those of you that think all you have to do is demand a referendum (from a bunch of youths who don't speak for anyone but themselves) and get it are delusional dreamers. No country in the world surrenders its territorial sovereignty so easily and it's up to you to persuade and cajole and lobby. Else, we go to the number 2 way.....

2) by going to war and towing the path of former Yugoslavia or Sudan or Ethiopia/Eritrea.

Anything other than the above is useless noisemaking and that is the path that IPOB have chosen: to simply be nuisances who spend all their time with incendiary hate speech shouting ""zoo this....", "zoo that....".

Nnamdi Kanu is a mentally ill mooron and people who take him seriously need help.

I had wanted to come hard on you to debate the practicality of these points and suggestions you made above but I realised there is no more need doing so as you have already scored an own goal above when you acknowledged where your idea will work is in a civilised society. That is the problem here : Nigeria is not only an uncivilised nation but a barbaric backward thinking one. With people whose reasoning is on per ( or less) basis with animals, and functions anti-clock wise. A place you will be kind if you call her animal kingdom. A joke of a nation.

Such civilised manner of agitation will not work with them. The only type that works is the type IPOB is using now and you can see it's yielding results already.

There is something I noticed about those advising us to participate in the election, they are mainly pdp members and atiku supporters who are banking on our votes to win the election. They don't care about Biafrans, all they care for are our votes. They hide this their real motive under the cloak of voting will give you voice, voting will help you control the government, voting will help you to vote out Buhari and elect a person who will listen to your call for referendum ( this is subtly suggesting atiku to be the one). They say this as if votes even count in Nigeria..

This is rubbish to me. You say it as if there is no precedence. We have been voting for time immemorial what has come out of it? Absolutely Nothing. How can we bank on Atiku when he is a dubious and duplicious person and is not in any way different from Buhari. Was it not the same Atiku that was talking about restructuring before the python dance. And immediately after the python dance and he thought nnamdi kanu was dead, he and other restructuring advocates muted the idea.

Let me tell you people what you are actually trying to do . You are subtly trying to lay a trap for IPOB by luring us to get involved into Nigerian politics. You did the same thing to Ojukwu and disgraced him to the point of making sure he was defeated by an unknown commissioner at the time in a position as small as a Senate election. You made sure he lost even in his own backyard. And that striped him most of the influence he had on igbos. In the end, what did be gain? Absolutely nothing and he lost everything. Including how history will remember him. And what did Biafrans gain from his involvement in Nigerian politics ? The answer too is nothing. We are still being marginalised and treated like 3rd class citizens. As if it wasn't all of us that helped achieve Nigeria's independence.

If there is one thing I like about Nnamdi Kanu, it's his knowledge of history and his uncanny ability to see and calculate several steps ahead. From the onset, he knew that going about the agitation through a political route will not yield anything. For instance, from the beginning, he identified that one of the major stumbling blocks in the agitation will come from Igbo political class. These are men and women who are already established and benefiting from the corrupt Nigerian political system. And will continue benefiting from it in so many years ahead.

Some of them are first time sitting governors who are almost guaranteed to go for a second term as governors and then thereafter go and spend the next 8-12 years in the Senate house. Is it such a person who will be hugely benefiting from the existence of Nigeria for the next 16-20 years that you will bank on to risk or leave it and help you actualise your freedom ? They don't care about the common man. They only care about themselves and their family members.

If at anytime Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB deviates from the current method they are using to agitate for Biafra and start seeking political method and political positions in Nigeria they will mess the whole agitation up. They will fall into that same trap Ojukwu fail into, and they will regret it. Though I strongly believe Kanu is too intelligent to even give such an foolish idea a second thought.

In essence you concede to the fact that Edo is not part of the proposed biafra region. Why do you include other south south states given the recent clamour for a Niger Delta republic in some quarters and the insistence on the non inclusion of the ijaw people in the biafran prospect by groups like the IYC? Do you have any research to show a majority or an overwhelming number of the SS people wish to be biafrans?

The other parts of south south states included are the parts that formed the old eastern region. The parts that fought the biafran war. That is the justification for their inclusion. Edo has no such justification.
as for IYC, Its just an organisation. The ultimate decision lies with the people. And that is the reason we are demanding for a referendum Which gives everyone a voice. Is after the referendum you can honestly tell if the majority of the ijaws want to be part of Biarfra or not.

We are asking for a referendum to be conducted in all south east states and all south south states minus Edo state. And of course if during the referendum majority votes in favour of staying in Nigeria we will stay put in Nigeria and that will permanently bury the issue of BIAFRA.

Thanks to all of you who have been debating, and more importantly to those with contrary opinion from mine: those who think it's better we participate in the election than to boycott it. I appreciate.

Now let me tackle some of the issues you raised as to why we should vote.

One of the points you raised as to why we should not boycott the election is to "help vote out Buhari " this point while seeming to sound patriotic since Buhari has proven to be a national disaster, makes me think you guys somehow thinks we Biafrans are foolish people politically.

Four years ago when the mad man came on board, we told you people he will be a national disaster you refused to listen, called us hateful and inconsequential and went ahead to elect the most unworthy candidate of the lots to be our president. You wildly celebrated the victory of your choice over ours, but you never knew it was gonna be a Pyrrhic Victory.

Now he has brought sufferings and disgrace to you all, and you now want our vote to help vote him out. The answer is CAPITAL NO. we are not going to be part of any election to vote him out for the simple reason that we didn't vote him in. You guys did, so it's your exclusive responsibility to show him the way out. Even the Buhari himself openly acknowledged that we never voted for him when he made his famous 5% and 97% comment, and to your evil delight promised that he will treat us with contempt. Now it has downed on you people that we are not the only one feeling the brunt of his stupidity. Incompetence and bigotrism, you now want us to help on the rescue. We will not, if you know that 97% votes you gave him four years ago, just withdraw it and give it another candidate and he will lose. mathematically We will even be making the job easy for you by abcentending our 5% .

Helping to vote out Buhari is risky for we Biafrans. It will only deepen his hatred for us. and he can harm us with the remaining time he has to stay in power and when that start happening, the same you people who are here encouraging us to vote will be the ones laughing at us. Our mumu don do.

What do you think will happen if it is confirmed before the general elections that there's truly an imposter?

On marketing Biafra, that is ongoing. Courting Israel is strategic. If you win Israel over you're basically a "keep in view" with the US and you know how much influence uncle Sam wields. You don't expect every cough and sneeze to be reported on social media do you?

On the bolded, except you only listen to Radio Biafra on Saturdays I don't think this should be an issue. Radio Biafra runs continuously all day, everyday. If you actually think about it, does showing the world how fraudulent the system is not support the call for boycott?

Thank you bro, shalom. You took the world out off my mouth. I was about telling our brother kanubiafra the same thing until you said it.

@ kanubiafra.
Everything IPOB does is strategic and pre-mediated. There is always timing and proper planning to it. IPOB as you see it is far bigger than what has been made public. That is the mistake Nigerian government made and are still making about IPOB and their agitation. They erroneously thought IPOB is one small hungry organisation that startered with mere radio broadcast of Nnamdi kanu in London.

IPOB is made up of some of the most educated, rich and well connected individuals both within and outside Nigeria, and backed by one of the most effective intelligence agency in the world. Those our brothers you see on the street who carry placards and stage protests are just foot soldiers in the struggle who do the open Sensitisation . IPOB as an organisation is much more bigger and more sophisticated than that. It is that sophisticated minds running and backing IPOB that made it so effective, consistent, well reputed before the international communities and several steps ahead of Nigeria government.

So my bro chill, relax and follow events as they unfold. You will see the end. Besides don't you know it's more damaging for IPOB to expose such grand fraud that took place in aso rock than to even boycott the election. Even the Nigerian government are seriously wishing that IPOB will focus on their call for election boycott than expose jubril as an impostor. The election may not even hold if IPOB succeeds in establishing that the current occupant of aso rock is an impostor. The consequences , confusion and chaos it will create can only be better imagined.

artofseduction:
M engaging u

Pls be logical with your points and don't throw tantrums

Can u in all honesty explain to me how boycotting elections will give you referendum and give examples of countries where it has worked.

Welcome dear and thanks for this reasonable question. Boycotting the Nigerian election Is a civil disobedience and one of the many pressure and negotiation tools IPOB intends to use to press home for a date for referendum from the Nigerian government.

IPOB as you know is Indeginous people of Biafra: an umbrella movement that is agitating and championing for the emancipation of BIAFRA from Nigeria in a peaceful and civilised manner.

For BIAFRA to successfully secceed from Nigeria in a peaceful globaly acceptable way without war, a referendum must be conducted in this BIAFRAN area, and for this to happen, Nigeria must agree to it. But to seat down and ask Nigeria for this referendum she will not agree, and that is a waste of time. And to come out on the Nigerian street to protest for it is suicidal as Nigeria government has a penchant to kill unarmed protesters.
So one of the most effective ,peaceful and harmless ways to press home for it is to result or threaten to result into civil disobedience which one of them is election boycott.
Observe that IPOB never said its members will not be participating in the forth coming general election, rather they said" give us a date for referendum or we will not participate in the election. They are too different things here. To simply ask citizens who are still part of a constituted entity not to participate In her election Is undemocratic and uncivilised but to threaten to boycott the election except the Nigerian government gives them a listening ear on their demand for referendum is civilised and democratic.

For Nigerian government to stand in the way of referendum against Biafrans is evil, undemocratic and uncivilised for two major reasons.

One, referendum is enshrined in the African union and United Nations charter which Nigeria is a full member and signatory to. To simply sign something and when it's time to lmplement or practice it you refuse to honour is evil and fraudulent. It's akin to to someone issuing you a dude cheque.

Second, Nigeria as a nation was never put together with any form of consensus agreement or consultation of the people. Lord Lugard woke up one morning possibly after a bad night and for reasons best known to him decided to merge us together and call us a nation. He did that without respect for for us as a people and with total disregard to our differences in value systems, religious and cultural orientation. But what he failed to remember is that that same backward black people he was seeing that time will one day get educated ,get civilised , know their right and worths, ask questions and push to determine who they are and correct this abnormalities . And that is exactly what you are seeing today.

So this call for election boycott while being a civil disobedience is justified by the fact that Nigerian government is the one failing to live up to her constitutional obligation to accept to fix a date for a referendum and will cold bloodedly murder her citizens for demanding for a referendum which is part of their fundamental human right.

One effect the boycott will achieve if "absolute " will be to create power vacum. Another will be to help send messages to the global community who will in turn help pressure the Nigerian government to accept to fix a date for a referendum as they wouldn't want the menace a power vacum will create.

Finally you demanded I give you examples of people that achieved their freedom by boycotting elections. And my answer is this, if you go through history and see how different nations achieved their freedom and come to exist, you will observe that these different nations achieved their freedom in different ways . some of those ways includes through war, referendum or some judicial process. While the methods they employed differes, one thing that is common among them is that they were methods they deemed effective in their place and time and according to realities they confronted in those places.

In our own case, we will equally be seeking for our own freedom through methods that suits the realities obtainable in our plight. IPOB are peace loving people, we will not chose the option of war to gain our freedom from Nigeria, we go for the option of a referendum. And since the Nigerian government is adamant in giving us a date for a referendum, we will use every risk free, effective democratic means withing our limited reach to pressure the Nigerian government to give us a date for referendum. And boycotting the election is one of the most potent and 100% risk free means we can achieve that. If we boycott the election, we have everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose in our quest for freedom. Thank you.

NNAMDI KANU: A MAN WHO BLINDNESS BROUGHT TO PROMINENCE

Indeed I must admit that he's a man of high intelligence despite being of very low good conscience.

I used to take the people of the Southeast to be the most intelligent people of the nation, however this is one instance where that assumption is seriously being put to test.

For when I see people who ought to know better exhibiting such a high level blindness In this respect, it gives me a huge reason to be concerned.

I mean how is it possible that they have not been able to see how deceitful and crooked that chap called Nnamdi Kanu is, I mean how?

It's so glaring that even a blind man can see it, as a brother would say, but in a world where blatant lies could be easily sold to people as the truth, this has proven that anything is indeed possible.
@ op
I am an ardent follower of Nnamdi KANU. But if you can point out just one thing that made him deceitful and crooked as you alleged, I will stop following him from today, drop everything about the agitation, apologize publicly and preach one Nigeria. Over to you.
