Your response to the guy wasn't necessary at that instance. There is no necessary connection. I think that ignited the tantrum which is also inconsequential. Two wrongs can never make a right. Do you ever think this guy that seems toxic and disrespectful on that social platform might be one kind sweet, caring and fun to be with guy. Maybe your approach met him at a wrong time.

OP! Can you do something for us to know if the guy is absolutely toxic as he seems to be?

Chnage the line of conversation with him. Try to chat him up again in a very more constructive and mature manner. I am not saying this because he his a man or justifying is toxity, No! I will probably give the guy this same advise if it was a woman that was probably that toxic as well.
