@ OP, i think the problem is that in most of our churches we are always told to switch off our phones when in church to avoid phone calls which serve as distractions. I think she reacted that way because she felt you were disobeying, I am sure if you used an i-touch or iPad she wont have said anything.

I personally believe she can stop. If you pray for her and tell her that God does not encourage such. Tell God to give you the words to say to her and you will be surprised at how she will change. Trust GOD on this for her if you really love her.
