Career › Comon, Lets Fire Your Boss... by basamta(op): 2:23pm On Feb 27, 2017
Imagine this...

Imagine having the privilege of fulfilling your wildest fantasy. Imagine being in a position to adjudge your boss at this moment and determine his stay on the job.

Imagine being able to cut the fat loose by sacking your manager and depriving him/her of any right to further control your life, your joy, sense of satisfaction, appraisal points and much more.

Imagine having the pleasure of breaking the stranglehold your supervisor wields over you. Imagine being free to truly be yourself, and fulfill your purest potentials without the control or influence of anyone hovering over and about you.

Well whats stopping you?

Everyday all over the world, professionals lose themselves in a never-ending circle of frustration about their superiors. Countless many individuals have quit their jobs, some have changed their careers while other have resigned and gone into business for themselves all in a bid to escape the 'demon' they know as boss.

In Africa as is not unexpected, the tales are much worse. The social economic challenges across the continent and the scarcity of jobs have made many to be confined as prisoners of their current employ. It is little wonder that bosses are seen as demi-gods (for good or bad) and where the experiences of many junior co-workers are not palatable, they merely groan under their misfortune rather than seek to correct or address the ills.

What's however startling in its simplicity and factuality is reality of the 'self' in the scheme of things. The fact that however great or poor your work-life is, the true boss - who determines your course and the main outcomes of your life (and work) is yourself.

Think about it, when as a young man or lady you wrote entrance exams in the Uni and began to craft a picture of your future (however small or big) who was there with you? When your mates were studying like crazy to be distinguished and all you did was party and have fun, who appraised you?

When you settled for a Second Class lower when your potential was way higher, and decided against putting in for a second degree as others with better (or worse) degrees did, who adjudged you wrong and compelled you to do otherwise?

Who's making you feel satisfied with your currently average life? Telling you the problem lies with the government, the economy, the forces and your village people rather than compelling you to look within and think about how to evolve yourself as you ascend your professional and career ladder?

Who indulged you to stop writing and reading helpful literature but instead waste your precious 'few' time on social media? who taught you that your weekend bar-crawling was way cooler than attending classes for professional courses? who's led you down the path of instant gratification and delayed responsibility? Who controls your life this much without much progress, success or achievement?

Who is this boss who is rolling your life like some dice if not you...

So the one boss who needs to be sacked is not the one who shares your work-space, who himself is subservient to this evil boss, but the one who resides way closer in your mind's recess.

The boss who deserves to be fired without fail is the you in you which makes mediocrity common place. The other you that makes you satisfied with your average life. The guy who kills your ambition with time-killing nothingness. The other you that has stopped you from finding and releasing the real you.

This boss pushes the responsibility of your life to someone else. It accuses your work boss of impeding your progress. It accuses the government of stifling your potentials; it blames the society for your misfortunes. It blames and claims and pushes the responsibility for your life's success on others without forcing you to be better or take charge of your life.

This boss needs to be fired for your true self to be found. I fired mine not so long ago and here i am writing again.

Will you do same and quit whining or would you rather remain same yet hopelessly expect better results?

Don’t bother answering, just reflect and decide what’s best.

@sexyseun, I didn't want to reply you, but I couldn't resist. That wasn't a particularly funny response. I work on the Island, and drive there everyday, but its crazy driving to and fro so I really want someone who can do the drive back while I drive to. Simply put, I want a driver whose daily trip is like mine. He doesn't mind being driven or driving someone else. I hope that's not too difficult for your mind to phantom now? She? Now, enjoy your evening

Romance › Can I Say “am Sorry’? by basamta(op): 1:58pm On Oct 12, 2012
·
Like an helpless goat in the wilderness, I paced…
Looking for nothing, and also expecting nothing
But brooding only on something-that which I have lost

Like a mouse in a rat’s dungeon my heart races
Beating wildly, smiling sadly, as I think upon the woman who no longer wants to be called my “baby”
Days rolled into nights, and nights into more days, yet my misery continued
The sun shone, rain fell, wind blew and mist flew…
Yet my heart gallops in exasperation
For emptiness consumes me and regrets befriended me
As those little devious moments of vanity
Were surely responsible for this near loss of sanity

Loving never feels much great until experienced
And with me, the ecstasy was all the more exponential
It took me several trials and countless gambles to stumble upon her
But when I did, she was worth the wait in gold
Ours was a story heading for glory
As love was birthed upon beholding her magnificence

I was struck: dumbstruck and lovestruck concurrently
The sun always rise in her eye
Her words were comfort, her hugs were reassurance
When she laughs I dream…
When she smiles I fantasize…

Her image travelled with me everywhere
My phone, laptop, ipad, even in the car
But to preserve her magic, I kept her alive where nothing would separate us
…my imagination

She was with me everywhere
She was the first I beheld when I wake
The last I see before I sleep
She occupied my dreams and dominated my thoughts
Her love was a prison-a prison of ecstasy
Her loving was an adventure-a trip into paradise and beyond…

She loved in ways Shakespeare never knew
She loved in a manner Solomon was ignorant of
She made little everyday happenings become extra ordinary special treat
With her, time flew on endless wings
I love her!
I loved her in ways adjectives couldn’t describe
She was as they say ‘…my everything!”
Then…
Tragically somehow, I found a way to destroy everything

I can’t say how it started
Even more bewilderingly, I can’t recollect when it did
Like a thief in the night the contemptible seed was sown
And like yam in Ondo soil, the seed mushroomed cancerously
It began with that girl at the mall…
Nails as sharp as thorns, eyes sparkling like a feline
I should have known nothing this glossy could be godly
But thinking back, my downfall must have began that day

Without thought I requested her number
Without hesitation she also offered her BB PIN
Calls graduated into chats, chats metamorphosed into voice notes and videos
Sure the love for my ‘Baby” never waned
But undoubtedly my commitment to her soon became diluted

Without a thought, I jumped into bed with the devil
But instead of stopping there I went romping
Where there were church members, I now see potential and willing sissies
Where there were competent colleagues, I now see sexy mates
I went out of my way to be scandalous
Prowling clubs, hounding bars and hunting parties all in a bid to womanize
The lie I told myself was I still loved my babe
The truth I failed to realize was…
‘Love without commitment and trust is lies!’

But just as nothing lasts forever
My deceptions became unveiled soon after
Suspicion was birthed, mistrust soon reigned
She questioned every move…
Checked my phones, querying my trips
But on that day when the heavens fell,
No one really was left in doubt
I had been a fool, but I never realize until mu cup became full

She made an unannounced visit
And caught me with an unholy receipt
My defense was haphazardly unprepared
And my appeal was rightfully unheeded

Her gait remained classy, her voiced unchangingly glassy
The slap on my cheek was a blinding thunder
Her orders-the unfortunate lady (with me) need not ponder
She never shed a tear; neither did she break a sweat
Her silence was deafening, my helplessness was cataclysmic
I shrunk like a rag and knelt like a slave
But before I could utter a word…
She said that 6word sentence that ended life as I knew it
“…and you destroyed everything-it’s over”
Intending to grab her leg she turned…
Racing after her without a robe, yet she looked not back
I cajoled, cried and called her names all to no avail
She refused my calls; neither did she entertain my visits nor gifts
My lust led me to this loss
And without her love in my heart, the emptiness took over

Now back to my wonderings…
Eyes heavy from drinking and spirit weary from torture and will dreary from dark thoughts
But as I perish in justifiable punishment,
Please call my love and say “just a moment”

Just a moment again to behold her and explain
Just a moment again to hold her and without restrain apologize
Just a moment again to ask for her forgiveness in all sincerity
Just a moment again, to see if her trust can be regained again
Just a moment again, to work this out, to set my life back on track
Tell my baby to give me just a moment again, to make us work

But even if she refuses my plea
Even If she rejects my call, and denounce my entreatment
Then all I’ll like her to know is that I apologize
For true contrition might not make everything right
But really, it’s all I got…
‘…can I say “am sorry?”

Romance › ‘prison Without Walls…’ (marriage Fears) by basamta(op): 1:06pm On Oct 12, 2012
Her smile was blinding, totally arresting my attention
I looked on inn undiluted awe…
Without effort, I noticed the expertly carved brows, the perfectly inched lashes, and the wonderfully applied lip gloss
My bride was beauty personified
Again she smiled, again I stared
If this was what marriage was all about, then why do guys claim it was worth it
****************
Somewhere in my subconscious, I felt the pastor’s nudge
He soon asked the question that thereafter plunged me into eternal inertia
‘Do you…” he began, solemnly swear,
To take, this woman as your lawfully wedded wife,
To love and to hold, in sickness and in health,
In riches and in poverty, ABSOLUTELY FORSAKING ALL OTHERS,
As long as you both shall live,
TILL DEATH DO YOU PATH?
Then………. [S.I.L.E.N.C.E]
****************
The hush descended on the auditorium.
Gentle chatter, noisy quips, palpable apprehension
The pastor intently asked the same questions again
I looked ahead; staring straight faced at the woman whose life I was to share
Her smile broke into a gentle frown
Soon the frown became undiluted anxiety
I heard everything the pastor said, but I just couldn’t muster the word necessary for a sensible response
****************
And then again, the pastor went over his oath questions for a third time
Gently but sternly he recited the lines
The quietness in the church was deafening
My bride’s eyes were moist with tears
I looked back momentarily and saw the audience’s apprehension
*******************
Her mom was lost in some cynic reverie
Her dad remain stone faced; acting as if such mammoth embarrassment were everyday occurrences for him
My mom was broken, but in charge
Her eyes spoke a thousand words, yet her lips never moved
Her shoulders slumped, her eyes shaking
“What was I up to?” she must have wondered
But whatever I’ll do must turn out bad, she must have concluded
And my dad? Well, he is dead!
But momentarily I saw his face querying-as he often does
‘What was wrong?’ he asks
And urging (as always) that I do the right thing
*******************
The pastor again called my name
“Mr. Basamta, I need some response…” he growled
I signified with my eyes, intention to speak
With a second, my best man passed me the microphone
And just as I coughed and cleared my throat
Not knowing how to respond, nor what I wanted to say..
A frustrating bead of sweat rolled down my temple in that air-conditioned arena, and straight into my mouth it went
Its saltiness and inappropriateness shocked me back into my sense
And then……………..
I woke up from such a strange dream
******************
Sleeping beside me was the woman I planned to marry in 2 months time
Looking every bit as beautiful in sleep as she often is on a normal day
Without makeup, she was already a goddess
And with makeup, I will allow your imagination the luxury of thinking her up
As I focused on her, just like in my dreams
The thoughts flowed again like a busted water pipe
“Do I want to marry this girl, who though is an ideal roommate, but is in fact a horrible bed mate?”
“Do I want to marry this babe, who snores so bad that I lose quality sleep-time each night in open-eye solitude?”
“Am I really ready for a lifetime of burden sharing, mutual caring and endless fearing for her monthly mood swing and headaches?”
“Will I want to stay committed to her ALONE for life, when there are countless others who look just as beautiful and even more tempting?”
“why on earth should I walk open eyed into this lifelong prison without walls?”
Those thoughts and many more enveloped me in a mindless soliloquy
*******************
In no time, my decision was made
I’ll call off the wedding; telling my fiancé I needed to think things through
I could take out of the wedding budget and fly away to the east, escaping the inevitable uproar-Dubai already sounds just appropriate
It would hide me from her tears; I would escape her parents’ sorrows and dodge my parents’ disconsolation
I will-in the morning, let her know of my inability to continue this journey into marriage
I give up!
*******************
I lay back in bed trying to sleep
But with a light body and heavy mind, sleep found in me and unwilling ally

Soon the day dawned…
My fiancé arose like she often does
With a kiss on my cheek, she walked off saying “good morning my king”
Soon coffee and sandwich was ready…
Before long the bath was running,
My day shirt was soon lined up, with matching ties and shoe
******************
Her ability to multitask was a wonder as she made breakfast and prepared for her day and mine
Morning prayers were said, and my ‘un-missable’ lunch was warmed and packed, even as our weekly date was scheduled
In no time we were ready to head for work
And as I shut her door, which I had held open for her as he entered the car,
I realized pretty shockingly that there was nothing more I’ll rather be doing that opening her doors every day of my life
*****************
It soon occurred to me that the dread of marriage is a threat knowing only to ignorant little boys
I realized that men, REAL MEN are defined by their women (mom, sis, nieces, grandmas and especially wives)
And that although of a truth my babe snores, what really keeps me awake is the beauty of watching her sleep each night
That although she cries impulsive, call my name intuitively, nags frustratingly and is annoyingly jealous during her many mood swings,
Truth is, there is not one woman (at least none that I know of)
Who is as committed to me in love, devotion, respect and passion as she is.
*******************
Who know if this magic we share would last forever?
Who knows if this love soon will not fade?
Who knows if her present charm guarantees any future warranty?
No one am sure…
But being scared of marriage or calling it off entirely is surely no way to find that out
******************
…entering the car to drive us to work
The real reasons behind marriage became clearer to me
“That being alone is only suitable for the eagles…
That though they may be strong, agile and the envy of all other birds
They ultimately always die wretched and lonely
So when God said “it is not good for a man to be alone” he wasn’t kidding
That surely never sounded like a suggested or advice. It is a statement of FACT!
******************
Marriage took on a new meaning
With renewed expectation and unquenchable anticipation I now await
I await the wait as my bride journey across the aisle with her never-smiling dad
I await the gentle unveiling that proves my bride is ready to swear her undying allegiance to me
I await the pastor’s recital and my ultimately defining response “I DO”
I await that magical phrase “you may now kiss the bride” and the publicly charming kiss to follow
I await the exchange of rings, the signing of register, the look of happiness in my wife’s eyes and the joy in the eyes of our witnesses
*****************
I surely impatiently await a lifetime of whatever comes with my wife
For with her besides me, life takes on a brand new meaning
******************
Marriage after all is leverage
Indeed as is often quoted, “he who finds a wife, finds a good thing!”

Politics › Taking Panadol For Cancer… (president Jonathan’s Flood Committee) by basamta(op): 12:57pm On Oct 12, 2012
Just this morning at 7am prompt
President Jonathan woke Nigerians with an absolutely needless national broadcast
In His wisdom or foolishness, he surmised that sharing almost 18billion naira on national tv would make Nigerians believe that he cared for them
With a speech as short as its connection, many wondered why Mr president had to allow such charade in the first place
******************
For me, the real questions remain
What is it about Aso Rock that diminishes our leaders?
What is it about that soulless enclave that dilutes the best of brains and converts them into some washed up autocrat?
What really is it about that rock that drains out basic logic and common sense from our leaders, that makes them conscience-less and very apt to believe the impossible and attempt ONLY the incrediblehuh??
*****************
As I ponder without any reasonable response in sight,
It occurred to me that no normal nation would leave the comfort of properly built homes or palaces to house their leaders in caves
Or can you or anyone explain to m why Mr President seemingly has no clue to everything and anything anymore?
Why would he? Why should he keep forming committee for every goddamed policy or activities of government in a way that duplicates or triplicates the activities of one or many more agencies?
In the last 18months, he has created more than 20 bogus committees, some performing the same functions, with unbudgeted expenses and unrighteous overheads, yet the lives of Nigerian does not seem to be improving at the slightest
**************
Check this out…
1. Subsidy reinvestment board
2. Committee on post-election violence
3. Committee to identify leakages and waste in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies
4. Committee for airport upgrading
5. Justice Alfa Belgore committee
6. Presidential Committee on Award of Post-Graduate Scholar-ship to first class graduates
7. Presidential Committee on the Rationalization and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies
8. Committee to negotiate with the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram
9. Committee to ratify FG contracts and procurements
10. Pensions Reform Task Force
11. Committee on transparency in the oil sector
12. Committee set up to decongest the ports
13. Committee to monitor oil exports
14. Committee saddled with the responsibility of expelling all unqualified students from the school
15. Inter-ministerial committee to work out modalities for University lecturers to have a minimum PhD qualification
16. NDDC fact- finding committee
17. Presidential committee on road infrastructure
18. Presidential committee on restructuring and rationalization of the Federal Civil Service
19. Committee to review judgment on Bakassi
20. National fund raising committee on Flood
Etc!
*************************
Not only are these committees needless and absolutely without much usefulness, even the ones that manage to conclude their mandate and give reports, their recommendations aren’t implemented not giving a second glance
*************************
Now back to the flood!
Every rational man knows that an emergency requires hasty response
How then can anyone explain that after almost 3weeks of flooding, president Jonathan has not visit any of the flood site nor physically engaged any of the victims at any of the relief camps?
How can Mr President or his army of advisers justify the categorization of states in some unintelligent flood quadrant, when the disasters are not necessarily statewide, but are peculiarly damaging to different areas and topography?
How can Abati, Okupe, omokiri and those loud mouth presidential envoys defend a 7minutes speech of the sharing of an unappropriated 18billion naira to governors and agencies who have little or no capacity to manage this flood?
What will they do with the money?
How will that money dry out the flood? Return people’s farm? Recover the floating or sinking dead? Salvage the displaced? Quarantine affected areas? provide food, drugs and shelter relief to the victims as well emotional support and counseling to the hurting?

********************
NOPE!
Mr. President and his cabinet did not think that far
He decided to share the money as he is wont to do to all the 36states including the federal capital territory, as if the same problem is afflicting every state in Nigeria.
Oga Jonathan must have forgotten the Aluu killings of last week in Portharcort.
He must have amnesia about the Mubi massacre of almost 40students also last week.
He sure didn’t hear the news of the extra judicial killings of over 30civilians by the JTF in Borno State yesterday.
*******************
Who said the pressing problems of Jigawa and Bauchi is flooding?
Why give them an unbudgeted 400million naira each for a problem that is far from their borders
This year, only 18students passed WAEC in the whole of GOMBE state
Isn’t that a more pressing disaster, instead of giving 300million to a state whose need are absolutely different from Kogi?
****************
Why couldn’t the president call on international organizations for help?
Why couldn’t he use his good office to appeal to the global human conscience to get international sympathy
Why couldn’t he appeal to world renown humanitarian organization like the Doctors Without Borders, International Federation of Red Cross Societies, Islamic Relief World wide USAID?
Organizations whose mandates are to respond to such disasters with the passion, empathy and competence that it requires?
Why must it be money! Money!! Money!!! In a way that the poor will not benefit but remain even lower down the ladders?
****************
Well the money is already shared, and some people’s bank accounts will soon start smiling!
I just hope our president will allow some blood flow through him so he can visit some of the victims and witness their devastation and loss firsthand.
I hope he will wake up to the inadequacy of the federal and state governments and quickly seek the assistance of international partners.
I hope he will soon realize the impropriety of sharing such bounty in an outrightly unintelligent manner and hopefully stop or reverse such scandalous wastage of our commonwealth.
Above all, I hope President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will develop some gut and have a mind of his own.
I hope he won’t repeat such a lame and helpless broadcast as suggested by his advisers.
I hope he would find time to sieve wisdom from the undoubted foolishness of his assistants and begin to rule this nation with some modicum of respect, passion and decency
****************
Maybe then, God will spare our land the impending doom as prophesied by the CIA, and allow this nation live on beyond 2015
Until then, might I suggest that we really need a committee to investigate what all those committees listed above has been doing!
Abi my people?
Shior!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" is one of the best books i've ever read. 900+ pages and still i couldn't put it down until i reached the end. Sheldon is not as good as he used to be. His books are more predictable now; i can tell where he's going from miles away, and yes he does have a preoccupation with sex - and kinky sex at that.

Jeffery Archer is still my best author though. "As the Crow Flies" is an Excellent book, so are "First Among Equals" and "Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less".

Hey, Archer is tyt, Forsythe is ok, Lundlum is even worthy of mention, but the BEST of the rest, Sheldon without doubt!

and i have like like 70% to 80% of all their books. humbly so

@ angel i love this guy because he tells his story with lots of twists and turns (which by the way marks a good writer).

like i rightly said, he is simply the best. am reading 'A Stranger in the Mirror' right now, and im wondering, whats it about this guy that makes every line a best seller cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

i have like 10 of his books and i read them every year. the only author that i repeat his book, considering i have like 200novels, he is without doubt the greatest

this is the dumbest country anywhere in the world. with foolish leaders, daft followers, shallow electorate and the most croocked press the world ever saw, Nigeria continues to set record as the WORLD CRAZIEST COUNTRY.
we pay 65k to gun wielding hoodlums, and 9,500 to competent graduates
we lodge them at rehab camp in cities, but imprison our core member at consecration camps in countless villages across the sham of a country
we pardon sophisticated criminals, yet forever imprison untried suspects
the sick rules, the healthy scavenges,
and you call this a countryhuh?
am sorry for Nigeria, , sincerely sorry i am
! huh cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
