Could we charge our phones using SWEAT? Temporary tattoo uses chemicals in perspiration to generate energy The patch works by detecting lactate, which is naturally found in sweat The more intense the exercise, the more lactate the body produces Sensors contain an enzyme that strips electrons from lactate This generates a weak electrical current which powers a biobattery Currently, the battery produces around 70 microWatts per square cm of skin But researchers are working on a way to harness more energy to charge larger devices such as phones or tabletsIn the future, when your phone battery is running low, you could charge it using your sweat.
Researchers have developed a small temporary tattoo that strips electrons from lactate produced by our bodies during perspiration.
At the moment, the energy it harnesses is just enough to charge a small biobattery, but the team are working on ways to use the technology to charge smartphones and tablets. https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/a-lady-sweat-techcribng.jpg The patch (pictured) strips electrons from lactate, which is naturally produced in sweat. Could we charge our phones using SWEAT? Temporary tattoo uses chemicals in perspiration to generate energy
HOW DOES THE PATCH WORK?
During strenuous physical activity, the body needs to generate more energy, so it activates a process called glycolysis. Glycolysis produces energy and lactate. Researchers imprinted a flexible lactate sensor onto temporary tattoo paper. The sensor contains an enzyme that strips electrons from lactate, generating a weak electrical current. This current can be used to power a sweat-powered biobattery. Batteries produce energy by passing current, in the form of electrons, from an anode to a cathode. In the case of the patch, the anode contains the enzyme that removes electrons from lactate, and the cathode contains a molecule that accepts the electrons. The maximum amount of energy produced by a person in the low-fitness group was 70 microWatts per square cm of skin. By comparison, a phone uses between two and six watts. There are 1,000,000 microWatts in a watt so the technology is still a way off from achieving that sort of power
The device works by detecting and responding to lactate, which is naturally present in sweat.
‘Lactate is a very important indicator of how you are doing during exercise,’ said lead researcher Wenzhao Jia, Ph.D from the University of California San Diego.
In general, the more intense the exercise, the more lactate the body produces.
During strenuous physical activity, the body needs to generate more energy, so it activates a process called glycolysis.
Glycolysis produces energy and lactate, the latter of which scientists can detect in the blood.
Professional athletes monitor their lactate levels during performance testing as a way to evaluate their fitness and training program.
In addition, doctors measure lactate during exercise testing of patients for conditions marked by abnormally high lactate levels, such as heart or lung disease.
Currently, lactate testing is inconvenient and intrusive because blood samples must be collected from the person at different times during the exercise regime and then analysed.
Ms Jia, a postdoctoral student in the lab of Professor Joseph Wang, and her colleague imprinted a flexible lactate sensor onto temporary tattoo paper.
The sensor contains an enzyme that strips electrons from lactate, generating a weak electrical current.
The researchers applied the tattoo to the upper arms of 10 healthy volunteers.
They then measured the electrical current produced as the volunteers exercised at increasing resistance levels for 30 minutes. https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/gym-techcribng.jpg During strenuous activity, the body needs to generate more energy, so it activates a process called glycolysis. Ms Jia and her team then went a step further to build a sweat-powered biobattery. continue shortly , or you can read more at the Source Http://techcribng.com/how-to-use-sweat-powered-battery-to-charge-your-phone/ |

Science/Technology › World’s Fastest Camera Invented – And It Takes 4.4 Trillion Frames Per SECOND by baseg25(op): 3:58pm On Aug 13, 2014 |
World’s fastest camera invented - and it takes 4.4 trillion frames per SECOND
Scientists from the University of Tokyo and Keio University in Japan created the camera, which uses a technique called motion-based femtophotography It maps the movement of an object over time into a ‘burst stream’ of photos Camera takes high resolution images at the rate of 4.4 trillion per second but is not compact, measuring around 3ft or one metre in length Will be used to examine chemical reactions and heat conduction https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/stamp-camera-techcribng.jpg
Researchers in Japan have developed what they believe is the world’s fastest camera, which can take 4.4 trillion images a second. The large machine contains a pulse source, temporal and spatial mapping devices and an image sensor (illustrated) to take high resolution photographs at the rate of 4.4 trillion frames a second https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/camera-techcribng.jpg Up until now, the fastest cameras used a ‘pump-probe process’, where light is pumped at the object being photographed and then probed for absorption by a laser, in order to collect vital data used to construct an image, Phys.org reported.
But this technique relies on repetitive measurements to construct an image.
Instead, the new camera uses a technique called motion-based femtophotography to capture movement.
The camera visually maps the movement of an object over time in a ‘burst stream’ of timed photographs organised in the correct sequence, to show an object’s ‘time varying spatial profile,’ according to the journal Nature Photonics.
It was developed by scientists at the University of Tokyo and Keio University in Japan. World’s fastest camera invented - and it takes 4.4 trillion frames per SECOND https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/08/12/1407846485370_wps_4_23_Nov_2012_Human_hand_re.jpg
The new camera will make it possible for scientists to capture chemical reactions and heat conduction that occurs at a sixth of the speed of light. One day it could also be used in medicine and to gain new insights into the manufacturing of computer chips (pictured) including their tiny semiconductors
The device claims to be 1,000 times faster than the previous ‘fastest’ camera.
It has high pixel resolution of 450 x 450 pixels to provide scientists with a lot of detail about the object they are photographing.
The new camera is called Sequentially Timed All-optical Mapping Photography (Stamp) and will be used to capture chemical reactions and heat conduction that occurs at a sixth of the speed of light.
It has taken three years to develop and the next step is make the device smaller, as it measures around three square feet (one square metre).
The experts who developed the machine believe it could one day be used in medicine and to gain new insights into the manufacturing of semiconductors, for example.
The computer chip components are tiny and by looking at detailed images of the manufacturing process, experts might be able to spot opportunities to make efficiencies. What do you think?

https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/ebola-map-techcribng.jpgEbola was flagged up by computer software nine days BEFORE it was announced: HealthMap used social media to spot disease Fever was seen developing in the forested areas of Guinea by an online disease-monitoring tool on March 19 Group behind software alerted the World Health Organisation, which reported first Ebola case on March 23 Since then, Boston team has created a free-to-use interactive Ebola map to track where disease is spreading Map uses algorithms to scour tens of thousands of social media sites, local news and government websites Users can zoom in on specific regions on the map, with markers showing where cases have been reported An automated computer program run by experts in Boston may have detected Ebola almost nine days before the World Health Organisation (WHO) formally announced the epidemic.
Using algorithms to sort through data on social media sites, local news reports, government websites, infectious disease doctors' social networks and other sources, the online tool HealthMap warned of a "mystery hemorrhagic fever" appearing in forested areas of south-east Guinea.
HealthMap is operated by a group of 45 researchers, epidemiologists and software developers at Boston Children's Hospital. It generates information that includes locations of specific outbreaks and tracks new cases and deaths.
Sophisticated software filters irrelevant data, classifies the relevant information, identifies diseases and maps their locations with the help of experts.
"It shows some of these informal sources are helping paint a picture of what's happening that's useful to these public health agencies," HealthMap co-founder John Brownstein said.
Ebola spread mapped
Nearly 1,000 people have died since the Ebola outbreak was announced on 25 March. Healthcare workers treating have been infected, and travellers from East Africa have been taking the virus along with them, leading to outbreaks and scares in many countries.
So far only one death from Ebola has been confirmed outside of East Africa, that of a man in Saudi Arabia who had recently returned from East Africa. However, 21 Thai tourists are suspected of bringing the disease back home to Thailand, and there have been other scares in Hong Kong, America, and the United Kingdom.
The map below shows the countries have been invaded by the lethal virus. Red areas indicate where Ebola has killed. Orange show where patients with actual or suspected cases of Ebola are being treated. Yellow marks where Ebola was thought to have been present, but was proved otherwise. visit the source to check the map http://techcribng.com/ebola-was-detected-by-computer-software-nine-days-before-it-was-announced/ |
Computers › 3 Strong Reasons Why Google Windows 8 Modern UI App Is Better Than Bing by baseg25(op): 5:18am On Aug 12, 2014 |
To ease the searching needs of Windows 8 RT tablet users, Microsoft provides an in-house Bing Search Modern UI app. As expected, to make the search experience even better Google had just recently launched their own Modern UI search application for Windows 8. And it trumps the Bing app in certain areas https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/BING-VS-GOOGLE-techcribng.png After working on both these apps for quite some time, I found that the latter was like three times better than the current version of the former app. And to support my finding, here are three amazing features of the Google app that outsmart the Bing one. 1. Voice Recognition While doing a web search what would you love more – typing down the search query or speaking it out to your computer? I guess most of you would like the second option and that’s the first reason to love the Google Search App. While in Bing App you can only type in the query, you can speak it out to Google Search. https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/viod-techcribng.png When you speak out the query, the app will dig in and show all the words it recognizes right below them.and when you make a brief pause, it does a web search in no time. 2.Page Preview The Google Search app provides preview of all the web pages right in the app itself to help you decide which page you will find interesting. After you do a search, simply click on the preview mode to see all the results in web page preview mode that shows the results one after another with the link and descriptions https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/instant-preview-techcribng.png Bing search on the other hand only shows plain, monotonous text based search results arranged in Windows 8 tile format. 3. In App Result Display When you click on a search result to open it, Bing opens the result in your default browser while Google opens it up in the app itself. So if you open a result in Bing which does not answer your query and you want to search the web again, you would have to open the Bing app again and again which is a serious time waster! However, in the Google search app, the results open up in the app itself with the search baralways at the top so that you can always do a new search if are not satisfied. Later, if you would like, you can right-click on the app and select the option Open in browser. So more choices here. Conclusion So these were three good reasons to download and use the Google Modern UI Search App on Windows 8 rather than default Bing Search. The only thing I liked about Bing search is the beautiful backgrounds it displays while doing a search.. IBM develops a computer chip with one million 'neurons' that 'functions like a human brain'According to dailymail, IBM has developed a computer chip which it says will function like a human brain in a giant step forward for artificial intelligence.
TrueNorth is being hailed as the world’s first neurosynaptic computer chip because it can figure things out on its own.
The chip also has one million ‘neurons’ and could cram the same power as a super computer into a circuit the size of a postage stamp. https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/6_IBM1_PNG-techcribng.jpg IBM's TrueNorth processor could enable a wide variety of applications based on the human brain's computing power. For instance, it could help assist vision-impaired people to navigate through an environment
Experts said that it was as big an advance as the advent of supercomputers in the 1980.
Horst Simon, deputy director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, told the New York Times: ‘It is a remarkable achievement in terms of scalability and low power consumption’.
Modern processors have some 1.4 billion transistors and consume up to 140 watts but the IBM chip contains 5.4 billion transistors and uses just 70 milliwatts of power, meaning it is incredibly efficient
TrueNorth will use closely interconnected ‘neurons’ just like the brain does meaning that it can work proactively to a level not seen before.
In addition to the one million ‘neurons’ it has 256 million programmable synapses, the most IBM has ever put in a chip.

He said that TrueNorth could be used to monitor oil spills or issue tsunami alerts on its own without the need for a human to keep track of things.
Richard Doherty, the research director of tech research firm Envisioneering Group, said that IBM's chip was a ‘really big deal’.
He said that if a robot today was walking towards a pillar then it needed a huge amount of computing to stop it heading into it.
But a robot using TrueNorth would be able to sense it and change direction just as a human can.
Computers are now approaching the stage where they are considered ‘smarter’ than humans in many ways.
Earlier this year a computer programme passed the Turing Test for the first time, which is seen as a milestone in artificial technology.
The programme, which mimicked a 13-year-old boy, was mistaken for a human more than 40 per cent of the time during a series of five-minute keyboard conversations with a real person.
Films like The Terminator have played on our fears about such technology - in the classic sci-fi thriller a computer system becomes self aware and launches nuclear strikes in an attempt to wipe out humanity, leading to a war between man and machines.
Ironically IBM’s cognitive computing programme is called SyNapse, which is similar to Skynet, the computer system in The Terminator. https://techcribng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/4_Terminator1_PNG-techcribng.jpg IBM’s cognitive programme is called SyNapse, which is similar to Skynet, the computer in The Terminator What do you think?.

When I thought about this topic, Canadian-American songwriter’s Alanis Morissette song, ‘What If God Was One of Us’ came to mind. Immediately, I thought of the time when Jesus Christ walked on earth, about 2000 years ago. And I wondered what people thought of him, how they related and interacted with him. What was on some people’s thoughts about his way of life? Then I came to a conclusion that some people might have regretted the way they treated him after his death. Others must have regretted not having a relationship with him when he was alive. The rest would have said ‘I would have treated him better only if I knew who he was’. All that must have happened because some people knew Jesus before his death and some know who he was after his death. Today, we all know who Jesus is and what he did while on earth. So if Jesus was amongst us today in the human form, what will happen? I think there would be no hiding place for him and we will all probably want to know him or have a personal relationship with him. One of those things I feel Jesus will do is to join the socialmedia family. Imagine what will happen if Jesus was on socialmedia, especially Twitter. Jesus won’t need to inform Twitter as a company to get verified. As a matter of fact, I think he will be the most followed person on the micro-blogging service. After American author, speaker and employee of Twitter, Claire Diaz-Ortiz convinced Pope Francis to join the bird family, he has gained more followers than some influential figures around the globe. With a stunning five million followers, @Pontifex is fast rising, gaining over 4,000 followers daily. He tweets in Latin, German, Polish, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic. As a religious figure, he’s doing well on the social media. Now imagine if our Lord Jesus Christ tweets. He will absolutely tweet in every language on earth because he is believed to understands and speak every language. You won’t be compelled to follow him; you will utterly and willingly submit yourself to keep up with his social media updates. Now, I can relate with why Peter and the other disciples abandoned what they were doing just to follow Jesus. Each time I decide to connect with anyone on social media, I check the person’s profile and what he or she talks about. My thought is always on this question ‘If I connect with you, how will it be of benefit to me? What is in it for me? What value are you going to add to me?’ Jesus must have preached a fantastic sermon from Peter’s boat and many people must have listened. Great messages attracts great listeners; same with your social media activities. What are you talking about on social media? What will Jesus Christ talk about on social media? https://christianitymalaysia.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/social-platform-logo-collage-430x247.png • Love and Peace: The gospel of Jesus Christ is about love. God himself is a loving father. ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son… John 3:16.Peace on the other hand is an extension of love. ‘So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual up-building.’ Romans 14:19. If we don’t love each other as people, peace won’t reign. The first and consistent message Jesus will preach will always be about loving each other. • Leadership: The leadership guru, John Maxwell said ‘Everything rises and falls on leadership.’ We will all have many things to learn if we follow Jesus on social media as we will gain so much from his leadership style. Jesus’ first message was from a boat not like the platforms we have in churches today. From that preaching, he got the commitment of 12 disciples though Judas was a ‘carrot’. The remaining 11 disciples so much continued the great message even after his death. What a leader! You are a leader in your own little social media world. People act and react on charisma to your post; even without knowing who you are. • #AskJesus: Social media is all about connections and interactions. Jesus can’t be on social media and not get feedbacks from his post. In fact, you will ask him many questions like the Manchester City fans did recently when they asked Jesus Navas some questions about his football career. They wanted to know: “How does it feel playing against Moses in the Premier League? Can you play football on water?” I know you have better question to ask Jesus. Ask him in your prayers and quiet time. Jesus is not on social media. He will never be but we can learn from him to make the social media sphere and the world a better place. credit to punch http://www.punchng.com/i-punch/if-jesus-christ-were-on-social-media/What do you think?Visit d source for latest tech news, review, and tutorials http://techcribng.com/if-jesus-christ-were-on-social-media/#comments |
