The ppan failed, and instead of Trump to face prosecutions, MAGAs are minimising the coup (some call it Insurrection) and calling it a mere tour of the Capitol.

This your statement is not accurate, because of the civil war in the 1860s. There was no Republican Party at all in the Southern states, for good reason: the party was founded primarily to campaign against the spread of slavery to new states. The party was founded after the Kansas-Nebraska Act which allowed new states to vote about their preference for slavery or not.

The Republican Party only formed a short time before the election - Abraham Lincoln was their 2nd Presidential Election candidate.
During this time, there was no such thing as a ballot with candidates from multiple parties listed. Newspapers almost uniformly partisan would print a list of their preferred candidates, or the party would print a party list, and these would be handed out, used by voters, and counted. Alternately, voters could submit a hand-written list of people they wished to vote for.
