They probably see the Taliban as fighting a just cause. The armed forces personnels may just be in the Afghan Army for their daily bread.

But if they don't want to live under Sharia law, they need to fight for the soul of their country (especially their armed forces). It's not surprising that their forces are surrendering without putting up a good fight. It's a country where the leaning is already conservative Islam. The Taliban only need a little effort to convince people to switch sides.

I am happy that Canada just airlifted 20,000 people that were in immediate danger as they are likely marked for reprisal attacks by the Taliban. People such as women leaders, human right workers, members of the LGBTQ communities, persecuted religious minorities, reporters, e.t.c plus their families. These 20,000 are in addition to the thousands of Afghans who worked for the Canadian government, such as interpreters, embassy workers and their families that were earlier flown into Canada.
