The Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun has released admission list for Higher National Diploma, 2017/2018 academic session.

While this may be good news for successful candidates, they may be in for a surprise as fees have sky rocketed. The PTI has had the reputation of being one of the cheapest and one of the most sought after schools in the country.

It seems they have decided that it is not just enough to have the brains anymore, it is just as important to have the money to be trained in the institute.

Three months ago I solicited for help in finding one Mr. Francis Ochoja, here on NL (see https://www.nairaland.com/3928895/francis-ochoja-man-declared-missing). many have forgotten, not the family though. They have taken to social media once more to solicit the help of everyone who cares to listen to help them find their Dad. Please anyone with useful information about his whereabouts should contact his son at this number 0813 358 9548. Below are screenshots of my conversation with his son, Who happens to be my course mate;

It was a nightmare for the people of Las Vegas yesterday as a gunman opened fire on a crowd of about 22,000 attending a concert in Mandalay Bay. Below are the facts according to CNN;

* 50+ people are dead and 400+ injured

* The heinous crime was supposedly carried out by a man of 64 (Steven Paddock) acting alone. He has no prior record with the police nor does he have any known terrorist connection.

*The weapons used were automatic, capable of firing 27/28 rounds per minute. About ten guns were found in the hotel from which the shots were fired.

* According to his brother, there is absolutely no reason why he would do such a thing
* his home and hotel room were searched and nothing suspicious was found. Hotel Employees reportedly moved to and from his room for the number of days he was checked in and found no sign of nefarious activities.

* He killed himself after the shooting

Now here are my speculations;

Even though the possession of arms in the US is legal, the possession of guns as powerful as that used by the assailant is illegal and would require some underground connections to get. Now, for someone with no record of crime, at his age, and no known terrorist connections, It is hard to envisage him actually carrying out this crime.

The gunman conveniently positioned himself at the 32nd floor and deliberately opened fire. He took a lot of guns to do this (passed through hotel security with that many weapons). These facts points to a premeditated crime. it hardly fits the MO of one who suddenly became deranged and decided to just walk up to the black market without having connections to get so many powerful weapons all in a bid to kill so many random people.

It is even more convenient that in the end, he killed himself. If I'm going to kill myself at the end of such a crime, I'd leave tell tale signs of my involvement, our supposed killer didn't do that.

Could it be that someone else was involved in this?

could it have been a planned terrorist attack with Steven Paddock conveniently left holding the bag (after all, dead men can't defend themselves)?

In any case, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Miller Urey experiment has been criticized for a lot of things including it's assumption about the state of the primitive earth's atmosphere but one thing that hasn't been falsified (from repeated experiments that used the MU experiment as reference) is that simple things can naturally come together to form complex structures - which I can see you've mentioned as well. It is relevant today because it was the breakthrough that solve the conundrum of how animate structures came to be.

Be careful with your analogies. They seem to toggle between shortsightedness and superfluity. When you consider that the 5 elements present in genetic material are not the parts of a Boeing, maybe it'll start becoming clearer to you. The elements only need form the amino acids and gain the impulse to start copying themselves. Which brings me to the mystery of life. We don't know the specific point life started or it's trigger but we have done better than the creator assumption. We know the basic things that must exist for life to be, a demonstration is available as to how these elements can come together. By a long shot, it is a better argument than "a creator/designer did it". In this case, even your creator's explanation is violating the Occam's razor.

No, the argument is not about evolution. It is about how we don't need a creator for the complexity we see around us. The arguments against evolution is already tenuous. I mean, it has applications in the world today, how does someone argue against what has applications in the modern world?

Breakthrough that solved the conundrum? has anything really been solved? Even those carrying out the experiments agree they are no closer to solving the supposed "conundrum" today than they were years ago.. it's a goose chase.. but if you insist on pursuing it, be my guest.

Although there's been many different versions of the experiment, they all point to the same conclusion. Even now, people use computer models and maths equations to try elucidate the process and it still agrees with the experiment.

It's a good thing you mentioned the "infamous" Urey Miller experiment.. you know, when he first conducted that experiment with the "assumed" earth conditions at the beginning, alot of people were excited and optimistic, so many other experiments were conducted that even produced nucleic acids, they could possibly now create living organisms and thereby demonstrate in detail how Genesis unfolded through a series of spontaneous changes..
after Miller and others had synthesized amino acids, scientists have set out to make proteins and DNA, both of which are necessary for life on earth.. after thousands of experiments, are they still any closer to solving the mystery of life? not by a long shot. Realistically, the mystery encompasses more than how the first proteins and nucleic acids(RNA or DNA) molecules came into existence. it includes how they work together, since it is the partnership of these two molecules that makes life on earth possible.. at this point, I am inclined to quote British astrophysicist, Fred Hoyle, who compared the likelihood of life appearing on Earth by chemical reactions "as equivalent to the possibility that a tornado sweeping through a junkyard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein".
