I have refrained from mentioning a tribe because bad people are in every tribe. The important thing is for all of us to care about each other.

If I see every other Nigerian as my brother or sister, then it would be difficult to kidnap, sell fake products or hurt them in any way or form.

Secondly the culture of silence is another problem. If someone we know is doing something bad, we shouldn't keep quiet. The western world will call 911 for the most smallest issue in their neighborhood. Our society cannot be better if we are all prepared to look the other way, when criminals are perpetuating their crimes against fellow Nigerians.

Everything still boils down to this lack of love amongst us.

There are also some Chinese outfits too. In Lekki and Abuja.

But I know about the Lanre Shittu's training. It was even well promoted on TV.

If you allow the system to get you frustrated, you will lose out big.

Only those willing to break down as many of the barriers to their dreams as possible, can succeed in naija. We know most government agencies are not for service, they are for their political patronage.

For some time now, I have been trying to get serious training in Electric Vehicle (EV) diagnostics and, more importantly, high-voltage battery maintenance.

I am not looking for a two-day seminar where someone explains what an EV is, shows participants a battery and hands them a certificate. My interest is very specific. I want proper practical training in EV diagnostics, high-voltage safety, battery diagnostics, Battery Management Systems (BMS), battery pack dismantling and rebuilding, and fault finding.

I am a civil servant, and I know retirement will come one day. I want to acquire a practical technical skill that I can develop into a second career when that time comes.

The journey has been surprisingly frustrating.

I started by looking for training providers in Nigeria. One of the first organisations I investigated was AutoClinic. I initially became interested in their Ibadan EV training because the information I saw suggested that it was largely practical.

I sent emails.

Then I sent more emails.

I sent countless emails and received no response.

Eventually, I had to start making phone calls. That was when I discovered that the Ibadan centre did not actually offer the EV training I was looking for. I was eventually directed to their Abuja centre.

The Abuja centre was willing to provide high-voltage battery maintenance training and sent me its course information. The cost was around ₦1.3 million.

However, after studying the course content carefully, I was not completely satisfied that it matched the type of specialist training I wanted. I am not interested in spending more than ₦1 million simply because I am desperate to get trained.

So I started looking outside Nigeria.

India became interesting because EV training there appeared considerably cheaper. I investigated several training providers, including DIYguru, and went through several rounds of communication and price negotiations. At one point, the price came down to around $1,000.

But again, I had concerns about the practical component, the payment arrangement and exactly what I would be getting for my money. I wanted to verify everything before committing my money, even going as far as contacting the relevant Indian authorities.

I continued searching.

Then I thought that before spending money to travel abroad, I should exhaust the opportunities available in Nigeria, especially because the Nigerian government has been talking about electric vehicles and the need to develop local technical skills.

That brought me to the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

I discovered that Nigeria actually has National Occupational Standards for the operation and maintenance of electric vehicles. The National Board for Technical Education's database lists Electric Vehicles Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, while its Technical and Vocational Education and Training application system lists Operation and Maintenance of Electric Vehicles as a training area.

This gave me some hope.

I also found out that the National Automotive Design and Development Council has an Automotive Training Centre in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Since I am in Lagos, I contacted the Ikorodu centre.

Unfortunately, I was told that they do not offer EV training.

That was disappointing, but I decided to move on to the National Board for Technical Education because it is the federal agency responsible for regulating Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions in Nigeria. Its Department of Vocational, Technical and Skills Development is responsible for areas including technical trades, national skills qualifications and skills centres.

I found a telephone number for the National Board for Technical Education and called.

The first number responded that the number was "not in existence."

I found another number and called.

The response was "I am not allowed to call the number."

I found a National Board for Technical Education SERVICOM number and called.

The response was "the called number doesn't have the facility to receive calls."

At that point, I honestly did not know whether to laugh or get angry.

This is the part of trying to acquire new technical skills in Nigeria that is extremely frustrating.

On paper, we have the policies.

We have the programmes.

We have the National Occupational Standards.

We have government agencies responsible for technical education.

We have institutions listed as having approved programmes.

Nigeria even has an official EV training framework that goes as far as Level 4.

But when an ordinary Nigerian who genuinely wants to acquire the skill tries to find out where he can actually register for practical training, the process becomes unnecessarily difficult.

You send emails and receive no response.

You call telephone numbers and they don't work.

You call another number and you are told you are not allowed to call it.

You call another government contact and you are told that the number cannot receive calls.

How are we supposed to develop a technically skilled workforce this way?

I am not asking the government to give me a job.

I am not asking for millions of naira.

I am simply trying to find out where I can obtain proper practical EV training in Nigeria.

I have also completed training in cybersecurity because I have been trying to prepare myself for the future. But competing with young boys and girls for internship positions in cybersecurity is not funny.

You complete the training, obtain certificates and then discover that many entry-level opportunities expect you to start from the bottom and compete with much younger people who can spend several years building their careers.

That is one reason I am seriously considering EV technology. I want to acquire a practical skill where my existing work experience, maturity and ability to learn can still be useful.

I am willing to learn.

I am willing to pay for good training.

I am willing to start from the basics where necessary.

But there has to be a clear pathway to the training.

We keep hearing that electric vehicles are the future. We hear about the need to prepare Nigerian technicians for the transition from internal-combustion vehicles to electric vehicles. We hear about developing local technical capacity.

But someone who genuinely wants to acquire the skill can spend weeks simply trying to find out where the training is actually taking place.

My biggest frustration is not even the cost anymore.

It is the difficulty in getting reliable information from the institutions that are supposed to provide that information.

If a government agency does not offer the training, that is understandable. Simply tell the person where the training is available.

If the programme is only available in another state, tell the person.

If the person is not eligible, explain the requirements.

If there is no funding, say so.

But leaving people to send countless unanswered emails and call telephone numbers that don't work is extremely discouraging.

Maybe someone on Nairaland knows something I don't know.

I am looking for serious, practical EV training in Nigeria, particularly training that covers high-voltage systems, battery diagnostics, Battery Management Systems (BMS), EV fault diagnosis and, eventually, battery repair and rebuilding.

Not a seminar.

Not just theory.

Not a two-day introduction to EVs.

I mean genuine hands-on technical training.

If anyone knows an institution currently offering this type of training, please share.

At this point, I am ready to explore any credible option.

Because honestly, this journey has been frustrating enough.

If you know you will not have time to monitor your shares, you are better off buying Equity Trust Funds popularly called ETFs. The asset managers will manage the shares for you.

Structure is a key advantage for APC, and PDP.

Even as broken as PDP is, there are still millions of ardent PDP supporters up and down the country. They grew up with it. It is all they know.

What if the goal is to have a chain of branded barbing salon?

A graduate bricklayer can end up becoming a structural engineer or take further career path in any of the numerous fields in the construction industry and be the best in the market.

What is not "cool" is if he remains a bricklayer more than one or two years.

We do not need to look down on little beginning. Dangote said he worked in Kano and Iddo loading beans into trucks. A bricklayer today can buy the same mansion he built for others in years to come.

I read through all the comments above and I can see some meaningful and practical advice offered by those who were once in similar situation years back and are now doing better.

In the same vein, I read the comments of some people who cannot situate problems properly and will blame federal government or their village people for their inability to get their wives pregnant.

That said, 98% of fresh graduates rarely get jobs immediately after service. We have millions of graduates leaving our universities every year and joining those already in the labour market, that shows a very tough competition. Many do not even prepare ahead by learning new skills during holidays. Volunteer to work with experience mentors.

The gentleman has not told us his class of degree and course of study, I was once a fresh graduate, an employee, i also worked in human resources dept and finally an employer.

The perspective changes as I move into each of these stages in life. And wvwry perspective is justifiable.

It is an illusion and very delusional to expect the country to provide job for you. No country has enough jobs to go round. Except where strict communism is the order of the day like North Korea and we all see the quality of life from afar. No one has a say in anything.

Back to the issue, I went through same ordeal as a graduate in the 90's. WAEC Conducted tests for over half a million of us on behalf of this same First Bank, we had several other interviews until we were shortlisted to 80 graduate trainees. and the military was in power then, The last stage of the interview was conducted at the headquarters (Asabia House). A lady ask if i know any one powerful enough to help me stay in the game. That brilliancy is no longer useful, at that stage what they require is either you can get a big business man or woman who can do mega business with the bank or powerful politicians who can move large govt funds into first bank. That was when the new generation banks like Zenith, GTB, Diamond were springing up. I had no one to help and I lost out.

The issue is,millions of graduates have a wrong mindset of what being a university graduate means. Yes, it means you are more enlightened, you can and you should be reasonable in your assessment of issues. However, it is not and will never be a meal ticket.

Most Fresh graduates are unemployable, this young man will remain in the labour market if he doesn't change his mindset, as an employer, we see graduates who know next to nothing wants to be paid 500k or 800k per month. Yet some secondary graduate will do a far better job than them, they do not take the initiative to improve their situation, They are always on Tiktok, facebook, instagram etc to consume content and while away their lives, they detest anything that will take them out of their comfort zones, they are not motivated to learn ,even if it will be a volunteer service that you can add to your CV.

They are unwilling to learn new skills, they do not want to learn any vocational skills, they just want money to spend. There are free courses about anything online, a graduate of any field can do teaching job, including home coaching, can learn new skills free including digital marketing, project management etc online. Can even get remote job abroad.

This guy lack capacity and mindset to help the would-be employer, anyone who cannot improve himself, cannot help the employer, they will be a liability. Employers do not need staff who is desperate for job, they need people who can add value to their company and take it higher. And people who can add value to others usually start from themselves.

Even if he gets a job, he is highly likely going to lose the job with his current mindset. He has a sense of entitlement, that he has served Nigeria well in 9months of NYSC, therefore, he should automatically get a job out of the millions who probably did better. For the same university education he got here for peanut, he will pay the student loan for the rest of his life if it were in America, you may argue about the quality though.

We give too much importance to govt in our lives and that makes the govt feel important and trample on our rights as citizens.

When an average Nigerian realizes that no one is coming to help him, not govt, not family nor friends, his perspective to get up and start doing something legit fot himself will change for the better.

Time is life, 24hrs is not enough to some of us, much less waste 4years waiting. I developed many skills while I was an undergraduates, I learned Hair Cuts (Barbing) for men, floor and wall Tiling, electrical technician, House Paint production and also paint houses, I learnt Aluminum window production & installation in Dopemu, it was the period of transitionfrom louvres windows to Aluminium then, I learn tailoring from my late father and many more then.

I finally went to Automedics in Agidingbi to learn Auto-mechanics even as a businessowner with 10units 40ft trucks. It was very inconvenient for me every evening, including weekends but I had to, because the auto mechanics were ripping me off big time, so to stop that I needed to know more. And the knowledge i got protected me and my trucks afterwards. I bought scanner and I could detect faults and what parts to be replaced.

My point is, your asset is what you know and you can do, not a sheet of paper called certificate. It is the responsibility of every individual to make themselves useful to the society in anyway possible, not the responsibility of the society. There are billions of people all over the world without education of any sort. If you have been one of the few lucky ones to acquire university education, is there a reasonable justification to wait for govt or Nigeria to make yourself useful to the society?

Jonathan is an Ijaw man, he has moved on, yorubas we're not direct beneficiaries of Jonathan's defeat. If you have true sense of memory. The likes of Atiku and the 5pdp governors like Amaechi and Co teamed up with the north and southwest to defeat Jonathan.

We have very incompetent and visionless leadership across the country both at local,state and federal level.

What does it take a serious govt to create a Public Private Partnership to raise private money to buy as many busses as possible and put them on the BRT Roads to generate income for the investors.

In actual fact, what we need across Nigeria is not even busses but trains criss-crossing the states and the country, with our population density, and potential to drive our economy to higher growth, it is obvious that the governments at all levels cannot meet the infrastrural development require by Nigerians in 2026, certainly not at this miserable pace, when Nigerians will have to queue for 2 to 3hours to get a BRT Bus cannot be an acceptable standard.

BRT is not cost effective, a single train can have 30coaches and each coach can accommodate 120 passengers. And it will be faster and cheaper, our so called leaders go abroad and see all these but they are too busy with politics to think of governance.

The stockmarket is awashed with institutional investors looking for viable investment opportunities to invest in, why these state govts cannot harness these investors with incentives beats my imagination.

Hopefully one day, we will get the right people in the right places
