It is a good idea, as a newbie, to start small and learn on the go, before upgrading and going big. Most of us started small as well, mostly for budget reasons though...
For your budget, i can offer you the following:
1. Powmr 12.8v 100ah (1280wh/1/29kwh) Lithium (LiFePO4) battery for 290,000 each. Battery will come with a free voltage indicator as shown in the picture below
You can watch the load capacity test video of the battery done by a very technical Nairalander and contributor to this thread:
You can also visit our dedicated thread to see 2 other videos he did on the battery, and also check out a few reviews from current users of the battery: https://www.nairaland.com/8194434/powmr-12.8v-100ah-lithium-lifepo4#131666850 2. EASun 1600w (800w) Pure Sinewave offgrid inverter for 69,000, capable of powering your house through the mains input and carrying significant normal everyday home appliances
You can check out this hobbyist and crude video i did showing the appliances the inverter can carry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KAuD7Bh9uk?si=CqzIQxmY5bmpRlGm 3. Dedicated 20A Lithium (LiFePO4) battery charger. It is a smart charger that can charge your battery to the maximum recommended charge voltage of 14.6v, and stop charging to prevent damage to your battery. And it can recharge your battery back to full capacity in 5hours.
Price is 48,000 A major benefit of this system is that it is modular (meaning, its components are stand-alone), easily mobile and very easy to connect as you can see in the 3rd picture, so you have opportunities to manipulate the system for learning purposes, easily upgrade in the future and you can even use it for other purposes.
For instance, i can easily detach the battery voltage indicator and use it to check the voltage of my car battery as part of troubleshooting if my car refuses to start on a morning. I also, occasionally, use the system to quickly start my car if my car battery is flat.
With an extra 16k, I can also offer you a customized bag with which you can easily carry the system from place to place.
I am in Lagos, and you can get the system within 24hours.

adrusa: Has anyone else observed the very low solar yields in South West states over the last 2 or 3 months or so? I have compared my July and August 2023 yields to July and August 2024 yields and this year has been clearly worse. It looks like Climate Change is very real and is creeping into our shores gradually.
This is very true but for about 2 days now the sky is giving good solar generation in Ikorodu Lagos.
[quote author=swagifted post=130866847]Whats the worst that can go wrong in buying a fairly used inverter.... I mean is there anyway to check the mileage? [/quo
gadgetplanetng: Can you share the contact for the sms service center? The inverters are basically the same thing thing so they should be able to sort it I'm thinking the issue should be what you talked about it's not measuring voltages correctly. It shows full and 28.4 volts on grid charging meanwhile the battery is 26.2 across the terminals
What I noticed is that the inverter voltage calibration have 0.4v difference. If you to charge your battery to 14v then you will set you absorption and float to 14.4v for lithium batteries The contact number: Muhammad 0913five eight87968 Engr tony 0813 nine790517
gadgetplanetng: Mine is old (Easun) plus I'm not sure they have a service center here or is it something others can repair? I'm thinking of just using one spare Powmr 60A controller for the solar charging while I figure the solution.
If not service center, using external cc is the best option rather than someone random tempering with the panel
You might need to take the inverter to their service center. If you can remember, I had something like the your issue with my SMS inverter which I thought was acting funny due to partial/voltage leakage from my negative cable from the panel but apparently after I solved the cable issue, the inverter returned to same issue after some days so I ended taking it their office which they worked on. When it was opened, it was discovered that some varistors was burnt which they changed and mppt card program and it's been working fine since last week Thursday. Mppt issue was having 270v from panels but inverter seeing 25v. The pictures shows the interface before and after repair
Drgreatone: Good evening house. So want to get a clarification. I use the sms hybrid 2kva12v inverter paired to 5 fake 300w panels (learnt my lessons here already). The max panel input i get is around 550w and if no load on, only abt 200 to 300w going into the battery. Had a bad battery so thought that was the reason for the reduced solar charging but i just upgraded to a 12v lithium battery and its still the same thing. Yet when i power a heavy appliance like my baby's sterilizer, av gotten close to 750w from the panels. My question is why don't i get that constantly as that would help my battery charge faster. The battery charges well with NEPA but with them bringing my meter soon, not sure i want to incur heavy bills. Thanks in advance
On my SMS with 12v battery, I have seen btw 950 to 1000w on my 2000w panel before these rain season starts. My panels are not top grade either. I believe what could be your issues are either or some of the followings: The rain weather, Roof inclination, Battery state of charge/load demand, and Not reaching around the nominal operating voltage of 240v.
Xanderone: Bare negative cable that was cellotaped?
Just a question. Did you cut off the MC4 plugs on your solar panel?
The negative cable attached to last panel had a wound originally which I had tape before using for the installation got weak due to weather, rain water got into it and unfortunately touching the panel frame.
earthrealm: u sure u don't have a partial connection somewhere in the dc cables
I did look at the cables, it happened that a the negative cable which I had celotape but the celotape got weak and water got into it and it was grounding with the panel frame and as soon as I moved the cable away from the panel everything picked up. Thanks guys for the contributions.
Drgreatone: Contact SMS for repairs as they av a service center @alaba. Curious though, what's the size of ur panels and ow are they connected? Any item casting shadows on ur panels. Whats the battery type/size and the voltage when u notice the 30v? Could also be ur battery's full and no load on. Seeing a powmr charger, is it also connected to same system?
The powmr was my initial setup which I have reserved as backup, so it's not in use presently. My solar panels is 2000w total connected in series. My battery is lithium 12v/300ah and it was not full when I have noticed this issue and when I switched off and on back, normal charging continues. This only with solar charge and never with NEPA supply. No shadow cast over the panels though the inclination is off, "na send down the rain roof". All these started recently, the inverter was purchased in July 2023 but installed in March 2024.
Ayomipoe: What do you mean it goes to sleep? If you live in proximity to Alaba, you should take it there. They have technicians on ground to help you.
It will see the solar presence but it will not charge, just reading low voltage unless I switch the breaker off and on it back before it read correctly and starts charging.
Good morning guys, please am in a kind of issue with my SMS hybrid inverter as am experiencing that the inverter goes to sleep often these days. Most of the time I have to do like hard reset by switching off the breaker between the inverter and solar panels if not it just stay below 30v but when I do the reset, the input panel voltage goes to 240+. Those using this type of inverter, are you experiencing same or it's just my inverter. I also noticed that when I switched the breaker to off, it hiss like when a drink gas out when you open the cover. I have also swapped breaker and it's still the same experience. Please note that all these started lately.. I NEED EXPERT OPINIONS OR POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Dam5reey: This model required 120V... If he adds one more 545W it will work fine.
the 30-400V type works with 1Panel..
It is true that with 30v the inverter will register solar input but the spec design and requirements for these high voltage inverters differs from model to model. Yours might require 120v for nominal operation but his inverter requires best nominal volt of 240v. Correct me if am wrong, we are all here to know more. See attached
obinna37: My friend hybrid solar inverter is 3.2KW, its nominal operating voltage are 240VDC, he has 2 solar panels of 545W which produces 96V, but batteries are not getting charged, what is the issue?I told him to add more solar panel
He needs panels in series that will produce 260v and above, that's the disadvantage of these HV hybrid inverter compare to the standalone CC for small size installation.
Probably your batteries are full, if not try put on the inverter to draw some watts and if the cc will draw some current from the panel. Also, snap the battery voltage and current interface of the CC.
BlueStripper: Good Evening Guys, I have a problem.
I recently got 2pcs of Quanta Amaron Tubular Batteries 220ah each (Brand New).
These batteries are always charged full before the evening by my 2s1p solar array setup 560amps (parrallel) and 180amps x2 (series) array.
The issue is, i get a very low runtime on just my freezer. My freezer consumes 150 watts of energy. I was using it perfectly with my Fullriver 150ah batteries (2pcs approximately 300ah) before decommissioning last week.
What could possible be the problem of these batteries? Its a 12v setup and I am supposed to enjoy more runtime but no, its been terrible. My Fullriver worked even better than this Quanta Amaron.
Should I upgrade to a 24v setup?
Charge controller is POWMR MPPT. Serving me for more than 3 years.
Please help @bassdow @valto @trippledots
N/B this is my first time using tall tubular batteries and i am so disappointed. The average Runtime with 150 watts fridge is 3hrs and battery will drop to 12.3volts.
My lithium setup 100ah carries same fridge for over 3hrs. This 440ah setup cant even carry for 3hrs and its almost at 50% DOD.
I am disappointed .
It's either you have not been able to charge it full or you need to change the electrolyte mix in the batteries.
isangjohnson: It's and it's not. All depends on the supervision/what one intends to achieve. I'm carrying out charging test without top balance to be very certain of the quality of products I paid for and I'm heading straight to 57v. I stopped at 54.1v yesterday and I'll continue from here today.
What option on the app makes it possible to display the remaining capacity?
