Family / Re: My 18-Year-Old Maid And Her Boyfriends by BeastOfAfrica(m): 6:35am On Apr 06, 2019
lacapine:
I have a 17 years old maid who would be 18 in June. She came when she was 12 and she is like family now. She is in SS1. My problem is her issues with boys. Always keeping boyfriends of which I discourage her big time. Had to ask her why she keeps them, she said because her classmates/ friends have boyfriends.

I have screamed and threatened but she will still keep. What am I doing wrong? Should I allow her just keep them? I teach her sex education though but she says she isn't sexually active. Today, I saw the picture she and the guy posted on facebook holding each other. I lost it today. I flogged and punished her. I'm I being too hard? How do I help her? We wanted to help her till university days but with these, we are scared and reconsidering sending her back after ss3.

How best do I handle this situation.

It seems she is adamant on her way of life. Leave her alone. She is already too old for beating and even all these your counseling, She'll most likely not take it and do what she wants. Leave her to her choices, let her be responsible for her actions. If she get belle, it's her choice, if she enter uni, its her choice, in any case u won't get any credit. And no one will discredit the amount of commitment you made to her future, especially since you put her through the educational process. So, leave her, let her be cuz as far she is concerned at the moment, you are her biggest problem, hindrance to her free living end enjoyment of everything her friends are enjoying, you are doing more harm than good.

What you can do tho is monitor her, Carry out periodic pregnancy tests for her(since you have already given her sex education this shouldn't be a problem) cuz she might get pregnant and want to abort it without your knowing and who knows what will happen. Just drop your advice(simple short advice, not sit-down counselling, a word is enough for the wise, plus all these have psychological effect) and go, continue to provide all her verifiable needs, notify her parents/relation of her new choice of living, and let life take it's course on her.

There are many spoilt girls back then that are MDs of multinationals today, its not always the case that a spoilt child becomes useless. So, whatever direction her life will go, you cannot alter it, just continue to offer support. Daz all.

The fact that you guys have to photoshop the 2nd picture to disprove Buhari's substitution with Jibril El Sudan gives more voice to the theory.

Look at the ear of the 2nd picture properly, it has been photoshopped and done badly.

I looked around and beheld the trees, mountains, rivers, oceans. I saw the animals, the beasts and the insects, they were marvelous and they were born of my seed. I was excited, it all made sense to me now, all the nights under the rain, pouring my seed away, guided by the eggs of wisdom, they were not wasted, they birthed creation, and indeed all has been made. I felt fulfilled, but I don't know who I truly am yet, where I am from, if I did eternity wouldn't wait for me, so I asked "where did I come from?"
"We were all made by God, while for some of us, our beginning is not known; wisdom, knowledge, eternity, and many others; others like you Adam, nature, and earth itself, your beginning is known. We are all brothers, God is our father. It is He who cannot be known for He was, is, and will be"
I felt special, but then something did not feel right, "if you are not knowledge, how come you know so much?" I asked.
"Wrong question again, but I will answer. Unlike the rest of us, knowledge is not personified, it's a stream of information and power that flows in the heavens, and with the right frequency inhabitants of the earth and other heavenly bodies can tap into it", he answered.
"How do I tap into knowledge?"
"Ask, seek and knock... you have been doing the first part since we met, and in deed you have gained much knowledge in the process. The time will come for you to do the others, to seek, and to knock",
"What do I do now?"
"Be fruitful, multiply, and have dominion", he said finally and seemed to vanish before my eyes.
Meeting eternity had made me sober, I became aware of my environment, the earth, trees, animals, fishes, birds, mountains, everything. I had knowledge, I had known wisdom, I wasn't sad anymore.
But I felt empty...
"You want more beer?" I heard a female voice ask. I looked over the counter, just beyond where I nestled my cup and there she was, as beautiful as beauty can. She looked so much like wisdom, but no, this wasn't Hikimar, this was more like me, she was flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones, she was a woman. She stood there with the entire smile her face could mutter, and I was drop dead speechless.
"How long have you been there?" I asked
She smiled at me, poured more beer into my cup and said, "Well, I have been here from the beginning", that was when I knew that she was my wife. Therefore shall a man leave his mother and his father and shall find a woman and shall cling to her and both of them shall become one flesh.
"Eve, Eve...you must be Eve", I said
She smiled....

Sands of Katsina, navigated the waters of the confluence, envisioned the Empire of Ife, heard the voices of the future of Enugu and in fact bedded wisdom..."
"Wisdom?" I interrupted
"Oh yes, wisdom herself, Hikimar indeed is the Hausa word for wisdom. And under the witnesses of heaven, millions of perspiration, approval of heaven's watchful eyes, that which you call rain, did you explore her body, make known your intentions and received essence from her", he continued.
"I am confused", I said.
"Then you must ask questions", he replied.
"How did this all happen without my knowing?" I asked.
"From the moment you saw wisdom, you desired her, you wanted to know her, to explore her depths and unravel her mystery. You wanted to uncover her beauty and make creation known through her. Your desire attracted her to you, and she did lead you to your desires and made you the forbearer of creation", he replied.
I am beyond drunk indeed, all the nonsense he was saying was of no importance to me, all I wanted was my Hikimar, and since he knew her he could lead me to her, but first I must ask; "why did she leave?"
"She had already granted all you wanted, and had given you her spirit to attend to you in dreams, her purpose was fulfilled", he answered.
I was furious at this point, I slammed my cup on the table and shouted; "but I wanted to marry her!"
He looked at me and with a smile he said, "No man can have all the wisdom brother"
I was sad at this point, sobbing my hearts out, I asked; "will I see her again?"
"I don't know that, but her spirit will remain with you forever", he answered.
"But you claim to be eternity, are you not supposed to have seen and known everything?" I am in tears at this point.
"I am eternity in deed, I have seen everything, but I am not knowledge, I don't know everything. The fact that you see does not mean you know, this is demonstrated by the fact that your eyes is separate from your brain, seeing is not knowing", he replied, with a little chuckle this time around.
There was a joke in there somewhere, but I did not get it. I still felt dejected, my cup was empty at this point, the young man wasn't saying anything, he seemed to be lost in his thought, for someone called eternity he seemed too young so I asked, "how come you are so young if you are indeed eternity?"
"Age is not known to me, time is not known to me, I have no beginning, I have no end", he answered
"Are you God?" I was curious
"Oh no I'm not", he scuffed, "I am eternity. The poets say eternity is in God's hands, they are not far from the truth", he answered.
"I am confused still",
"That's because you have been asking the wrong questions. You attempt to know me, to know God, to know wisdom, all these are good, but will be useless when you haven't known yourself"
What he said seemed to make sense, so I asked "who am I?"
"Finally, the right question. I can be on my way now. You are Adam, known by various names to various tribes, but you are one, it was you who discovered nature, and used wisdom to establish your seeds in all the earth, by you nature birthed life and through you life will exist. Look around and observe all that your seed has done"...

did call herself Hikimar, and stated that she was born of the deserts of Katsina, but I never found her. She is now lost to me, but then again, sitting here, narrating my sorrow; I hope she returns, I hope she takes my pain away.
"Who is there?” I asked, footsteps heard from a distance. It's a man, a young man, tall, elegant, ugly, but strong in feature, he seemed to be walking towards me, and then he seemed to just be floating in my direction. His steps were soft, and then sounded like the drums of war. He is dressed in simple attire, the attire of those who live at the confluence of the Niger and Benue, some call them spirit people, but they are humans indeed, men who have found a way to live in the confluence of the Niger and Benue. This young man did not look like a spirit, he was very manly in fact, standing before me now, I can see him clearly. I might have been drunk to have assumed he floated towards me.
"Who are you?” I asked,
"I am eternity", he answered. I am drunk indeed. His voice felt so young, like the voice of a baby from Enugu. He is definitely not a baby from Enugu.
"Who are youreally?” I asked again.
"I have answered that question. For someone bound by time, I would advise you to ask the right question", he replied with a cheeky smile.
"What is the right question then?" another question from me.
"Who are you?" he replied, pointing at me.
I was stunned at this point, I began to doubt the level of my drunkenness. This young man who has christened himself as eternity must be the drunken one; I did not know what to say so I threw his words back at him; "who am I?" rhetorically.
"Yes brother, do you know who you are?" he asked, looking at me quizzically, I did not reply so he continued, "You have tasted of the oil of Benin, dug the ...

I sat there, cup in my hands, her pictures in my brain, sobbing, waiting for the rain. She loved the rain, always did, her eyes will brighten with every sound of thunder, at that point whatever you wanted she would provide. We made love a lot of times in the rain, more times than I can count. We would get wet, drenched in a mixture of my seed, her eggs, our sweat, the rain, and the mud; smell of sex only heightened by the mist that surrounded us. I always wondered why we always made such a connection, she said it was our way of re-enacting creation, it never satisfied my curiosity because to re-enact creation to me was having children, and she never did let me fill her wombs with my daughters...no she never did, no explanation offered. I never complained.
Now I'm here, drowning my sorrow with beer that tastes like oil from the palms of Benin because she left me. Yes she did, just when I had informed her of my intention to make her my wife, she left me that very night and never returned. I feel sad, very sad, but I am conflicted in my sadness; I Just think she will return, it's been nineteen weeks now, and every night I sit here waiting for her to return, with my beer that tastes like oil from the palms of Benin, drowning my sorrow till the wind of sleep takes me to the land of many dreams. Every night I hope she returns she doesn't. Sometimes I dream of her, she would stand on the bronze artworks of Ife and look down at me, she would behold my sorrow and laugh at me, it felt a bit strange to me why she would derive joy in making me suffer, searching her eyes for answer as she stands on the bronze artworks of Ife, I see nothing but joy, satisfaction, pleasure at my suffering. It never made sense to me.
I would run into the deserts of Katsina every day, searching for her, she...

Politics / Opinion: Jonathan Had No Shoes, Buhari Had No Certificates!!! by BeastOfAfrica(m): 11:43am On Jul 13, 2018
Jonathan had no shoes... Buhari had no certificates!!!

According to Wikipedia, former President Goodluck Jonathan during his academic pursuit obtained a PhD in Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt. The man whose acumen as an animal specialist could never be in doubt as proven by his foray in the academic world as a lecturer, ventured into politics in 1998 just in time before Nigeria attained democracy. When he decided to run for president in 2011, what endeared many Nigerians to him wasnt his dexterity in zoology, we probably never saw any thesis published by the man in the field, it was the fact that many Nigerians could relate to him and relate to his message. He wasn't per-se a member of the establishment popularly known as "the cabal", for all we know the cabal was very much against his ascendancy as acting president and subsequently president. By some stroke of good luck he had become deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president, and president within a microscopic space of time by Nigerian political calculations. Not forgetting the possible underground machinations that might have propelled him to such national importance at such a small span of time, it was generally accepted that he was, as his name implied, blessed with goodluck, he had the midas touch, a touch Nigeria also needed. He bore hope for the common man, he told us his story and declared "...I had no shoes...if I could make it, you can make it". There was no stopping him from becoming president, not even the seasoned Rtd General and former head of state, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, with his cult-form  northern block votes of 12 million could stop him. Thus it was, on the 29th of May 2011, Goodluck Ebele, also known as Azikiwe, the son of Jonathan was sworn in as Nigeria's 14th President/Head of state.

Whatever catastrophe that might have occurred in the period of his presidency, it was sad to see that a man who made history as the most loved presidential candidate ever and the first from a minority tribe would also make history four years later as the most insulted president ever and the first incumbent president to lose an election. Sometimes when I think back at the choice Nigerians made in Jonathan at the time and try to ascribe rationality to it, I fail to come to a reliable conclusion. Was it because he performed excellently well during his very brief stint as deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president, and president; or was it because he was of the ruling PDP? Was it because he was a renowned scholar or was it because of his brilliant ideas to solve Nigeria's? Did Nigerians conclude that the country was more or less a zoo and thus needed a  specialist in the field? Maybe it is because of some mundane reason, perhaps because he had no shoes. Nigerians are known to be very sympathetic, seeing someone who had no shoes in a position where he could buy all the shoes in the world, needing our help to get there, we might have just succumbed to sympathy and given him the mantle. I would not understand the choice until another election year in 2015 and the blossoming of another election season towards 2019.

Ironically it was the Rtd General who Goodluck Jonathan sent to tears with a defeat in 2011 that upstaged him in 2015. The General had rallied his supporters, aligned with other forces  and formed a formidable party. With the unending squabbles in the PDP, the new party APC soon became a force capable of wrestling power from the PDP. Wrestle they surely did, and victory they achieved in a surprising yet convincing manner. By the time the results were being called in and it was apparent the incumbent would lose the election, Jonathan as ever the gentleman called the General to congratulate him and accept defeat. At this point one could conclude that Nigerians were tired of scholarly rhetorics, they were tired of soft mediation to problems, and wanted to fight. They wanted to fight "the cabal" that hijacked Jonathan's government, they wanted to fight corruption( otherwise known as kwaraption), to fight terrorism, to fight elitism, to fight, fight, and fight. Who better to fight your wars for you than a retired military General of high honour, former head of state and incorruptible saviour whose friends themselves are immaculate political juggernauts. By early 2015, even officials in Jonathan's government were already shouting "Sai Baba". At this point the issues bothering Nigerians were not the topic of national discourse, no, not at all, no one is ready for those aristocratic theatrics which tasted of pure hypocrisy,  theological deficacy, and cataclysmic unimportance. Hell, debates were shunned by the APC. The General was accused of not having as small as a secondary school certificate, nobody, at least none in the majority gave a hoot. In popular local street parlance "who certificate epp?", it's Buhari or burn, and when they meant burn, they actually did mean burn. By the end of 2015, Jonathan was counting his losses, economic recession had kicked in and Nigerians would soon begin to know the difference between frying pan and fire. The sad thing about jumping from frying to fire is that one who is not observant enough could hardly tell the difference, they both burned and they both hurt, while some prefer the fire to the pan, others prefer the pan to the fire and very few, a telescopic stellar few recognise that they are both terrible conditions.

The frying pan and fire present Nigerians with a terrible dilemma, we have tried the man with no shoes but many certificates and he has quite rightly failed, we have tried the man with no certificates but many shoes and he has underwhelmed. We are now so used to burns in our skins and pain in our hearts that we don't know what peace, happiness, and freedom feel like anymore, some of us have never known what these were. I, for one, have never known what 24/7/365 electric power supply feels like. Our problems sink deep into the core of our persons and our societies and are intricately intertwined with the very fabric that make up our systems that we can not differentiate them from who we are, what we represent, and what we stand to achieve. Thus, in the table of national discourse our very conversation bothers on elevating self over people, fighting supposed enemies, and appraising medieval achievements. The chagrin of our myopia is such that while others are building flying cars we are studying modalities to effect the production of toothpicks for the first time in our history.

It gets worse than that, but this article is not to elucidate our problems but to offer some sort of sanity in my own little capacity. As 2019 draws near, Nigerians should elect someone who has shoes and has certificates. Someone who has shoes is someone who has a vision, has a destination, and is determined to go there. This is perhaps where Jonathan failed, he after-all had no shoes. Someone who has certificates is someone who has the capacity to achieve his objectives. Academic achievements might not be a yardstick for knowledge, nor success,  but it is a show of excellence, enlightenment, personal development, and modernity; all of which we need to lift Nigeria form the shackles of underdevelopment and failure. A refined combination of someone with shoes and certificates, and a formidable team of political sagacity and aristocratic temerity should do the job for us. This time around we must debate our problems and profer realistic solutions to them. The very need of the common man should be at the center of national discourse. Security, Education, Health, Economy, Infrastructure, Resource control and management, Human capital development, Trade and Investment, Foreign relations, amongst others must take priority in electioneering campaigns with veritable facts and realistic achievable solutions, both short term and long term.

We know however that this would most likely not be the case in 2019. We have seen many elections to be decieved by mere theory, the way Nigerians choose their leaders especially given the limited freedom of choice given to them shows that 2019 might produce once again one of the recycled blokes of the failed generation of leaders in their final years. Elections are not won by achievements nor ideas, they are won by political maneuvering. In fact, Jonathan did not lose 2015 because he was a terrible president, he lost because he was a terrible politician. Only a brilliant politician with shoes and certificates, and a zeal to uplift the nation can help Nigeria.
