Hey Guys, its been quite a while since i commented on nairaland. Cograts Lowee, I am proud of u, i go holla u later, however I did not pass my level 2. I have registered for June 2010. wish u all d best guys. |
Hey my guy, I read ur story and I was really touched. As a fellow Akokite, I would like to ask some questions and also offer some advice. You have been out of school since 2003, apart from the Unilag B.sc, d job with d airport guy (u did not mention what u did while there), and d visa processing, u did not mention which other skills or qualifications u have or are working on acquiring. It would be good if u mention this so that people who read this post will be able to assist if they are aware of any roles that relate to those skills or qualities. I have also noticed from your post that u seem to have lost all hope in getting a job without d assistance of someone. I would like to encourage u brother that we still have a lot of companies in Nigeria that are ethical and have good corporate governance practices. I am talking of Big companies like Banks, Telecomms etc that would employ u only on merit and not on recommendation. I am saying this with confidence because its my own personal experience ok. I have worked for a Bank and currently work with a Telecomms company and I never knew any insider in any of this two coys when I got d Jobs. I just applied online and went thru d recruitment process, and just like U, I finished with a 2:2 from d same Faculty in Unilag. so please do not give up and keep applying ok ur breakthrough is just around d corner I wish u all d best. |
Hey Guys, I want to say a big Congrats to all who passed level 1 june 09. For we level 2 and 3 candidates, d countdown is comming to an end in less dan two weeks. Lets hope we'll have good news to share at the end of it all. |
Hi guys, its less than three weeks to Exam, and i am sure preparations are in full swing. Sure some of us are wondering about accomodation issues. especially for those of us that will be visiting Ghana for the first time. Well I have been talking to the management of the hotel i stayed at while i was in ghana last year and they are willing to maka rooms available at a subsidised rate if i could guarantee a certain no of guest would be staying over at their hotel. The hotel is a cossy a serene place and approximately a 5 to 8 min drive from the centre (Zenith College) so if there's anyone who is having issues with accomodation, u can holla at me ASAP. via my e-mail, bechexsnrx@yahoo.com i will def get back within 24 hours with all the details u would require. I intend to be in Ghana between Wed 03 09 to Sun 07 09. I would also advise that u book ur flights in advance as the rates are changing on a daily basis especially for Sunday return ytickets which the airlines seem to have realised is hot cake. wish u all the best as we put finishing touches to our preps. |

Hi everyone, Sure we are all rested from the weekend. I wish us all a lovely February. @tkb417, I just registered this morning on the CFA website i will be writting in Ghana. Which level are u writting, maybe we should hook up if we r writting the same level, i know a couple of guys writting level two. sure i have stated my reasons for leaving Banking, however i may still come back after level 2 or 3, but that will depend on a lot of other factors. R u sure u dont need woman palava, i believe we all need it sometimes U know what i mean.@ Topic Work today resumed at a slow pace, a colleague i am understudying is due to go on leave soon, so I have to up my game in learning more about the account reconciliation process and distributor incentive computation process. Well i have no choice but to learn it fast. The new guys at the canteen seem to be better than the guys who came last week ( We are actually having a rotational process and we are to vote for the best two caterers at the end of the proces). I took my time with the lunch, went to the Orange Bank to deposit some cash, and went over to a friend's office to download some software ( Stalla Level 2 Passmaster) Got back to the office and there were a lot of Credit orders waiting for my analysis and release, Trade partners calling to know why their orders were not yet released, finally authorised the release of their orders, i need to relax and well here i am doing that. hope the rest of the day goes on well with no stress. |
Thanks my guy. |
Hi Guys, I must Confess that I am really impressed with this thread. I have been comming to the carrer section but I am just seeing this thread and i must confess i read every single post. I will like to join in and contribute from time to time Well where do I start. Let me start with where I am comming from. I recently left the Banking Industry in Dec 2008 for the Telecomms Industry and its been really intersting. I was a credit analyst / marketer while at the Bank but decided to call it quits after all my attempts to move to a MORE strategic unit within the Bank were circumvented by my OGA. I am a chartered accountant (ACA), a CISA passant and i just recently ( wed 28th ) passed my CFA level 1 Exam. I took up the Job in the Telecooms company so as to allow me for more time to prepare fo my exams as well as provide me with Job satisfction as i was almost going insane with the Marketing Targets which did not allow me to maximse my potentials based on my qualifications. I work in the credit dept, of my coy and my job is a desk bound Job which requires varying degrees of financial analysis as well as credit risk assesment. I will fill you in on things later. |
Hi Damilare, just go to their Website and you will get all the info u need. www.cfainstitute.org |
Hi Guys, Finally the results are out and the pass mark was 35%. Please lets know how we faired so as to motivate those who will be writting June 09. I will start with moi. After two attempts, June 08 and Dec 08, i am happy to say that i have scaled the first hurdle, but I have two more to go. For those of us who will be writting in Ghana in June 09, see u then. I have to go read up some more, ![]() |
Hi Guys, I am glad to inform u that i passed the Dec 08 level 1 Exam. Please thank God for me oh. All the Money we i take fly go Dubai no burn, all the dates, galleria, and parties we i no go no de in vain, and all the sleepless nights and long days have all payed off. I wish all of us who will be writting June 09 all the best irrespective of the level we will be writting. For those of us who will be in Ghana, see u in june. |
Hi all, The CFA Dec 2008 Results are out. and I thank God I passed. The pass rate this diet was 35%. See U guys in June 2008. I will be writting In Ghana. Yo peeps lets hear the good news and inspire others. I got to go now and start my prep for June, Its Just around the corner. |
With regards to writting, anyone can write the CFA exam as long as u are a graduate or an undergraduate so long as u satisfy certain requirement ( check out their Website for the requirements) While it may be easier for a chartered accountant to read and pass the Financial Statement Analyisis and maybe corporate finance aspect of the Exam, he will be on a level playing ground with everyone else in the other parts. The experience of some chartered accountants that i know who have attempted the CFA exam, reveals that those that Have ACA ( ICAN ) sometimes have some difficulty in some LOS's because of the different treatments accorded to certain transactions under Financial Statement Analysis. What i will tell you is that the CFA exam is a serious Exam and anyone who tells u it is easy to pass will be deceiving you. If you are interested in acquiring the charter, just visit their Website www.cfainstitute.org and be prepared for at least One and half Years of serious study ( cause thats the least it takes to pass all three Exams ) . Wish u all the best. |
Hi Obidia Your msg is not very explicit, but i can advise you a little. Its good you know you need professional qualifications to make it big in any career, cause thats what works in our economy, however what you dont want to do is to aquire this qualifications for acquisition sake as that may portray you to potential employers as someone who is not focussed. You need to have a career plan for yourself and find out the qualifications you need to make that plan work. I like to clasify professional qualifications into two; 1 - Entry / Opportunity creating Qualifications - These are the ones that would not take u much time and resources to acquire, but will indicate ur willingness / desire to pursue that career and will separate you from the rest, and also make u more ' attractive to employers in that chosen profession' 2 - Career Advancing Qualifications - These are qualifications which cost you a lot of resources to acquire and will only make sense to pursue when you are already practicing in that field or when u are 100% sure u are on course to wards practicing that proffesion. they tend to help u as u aspire allong the ladder in the chosen prof. Now back to your post, i advise that you decide which unit u will like to specialise in in either the Telecoms Ind or the Media ang work towards it. I wish u all the best |
Hi i dont really know much about both companies, but i can say a little about both industries. I recently left the Banking Industry for the Telecomms industry and all i can say is that My Life has taken a turn for the best. i am far less stressed, i have more time for Myself, I now leave my house after the sun has risen and i get home before the sun sets. It all depends on what you want as a person, although my move to the telecomms industry meant more pay, but i could have gotten far more if i moved to another Bank cause i had the relevant experience and qualifications to back it. I was just tired of Banking stress and doing a job i was not happy about. I hope i have not confused u more, and i hope more people can help u with more convincing advise, but as far as i am concerned, its not always about the money, its all about job satisfaction which emmanates from ; 1 The Job function- U must like what u do or else its not worth it, as u will spend more time in the office than with ur Family ( sometimes weekend inclussive). 2. Having Time for myself - I am career driven and my new job allows me the time to study for my professional Exams. Wish u all the best |
Hi all, The Dec 08 Levle 1 Exam was lovely. My stalla Qbanks did all the magic. I am more optimistic than not that i have pased. I agree with everything that ifGodb4mi has said. There is no short cut, u have to start reading now and ensure that u practice enough quetions and answer. Hope to give you all the good news by Jan 28 |
It seems most of us are writting June 09, Anyways i wrote June 08 but did not Pass. I am writting Dec 08, andwill be on my way to Dubai on Monday 1st Dec. I am very confident in Passing this time. From my experience i want to advice apart from covering the curriculum an mastering all the LOS's. U need to practice as many questions as possible, I am using the Stalla software Qbanks and it has really helped in my prepations, I wish you June Hopefull all the best in your preparations, June is just around the corner. I can assure u that there is little time left. See u guys in Ghana next year wherei am sure i will be writting my level 2 |

I love nairaland where the job section is as funny as the joke section. lol ![]() |
Why can't some people look at the dates on the last post before posting Baldadash. ![]() |
Hi guys i could not help but join in this thread. @ onasharon Please dont give up on your search for a good job, okay? Be stead fast and also maintain your confidence in your ability to make it, it will suprise you what u can achieve if u trully put your mind to it. One thing though, there is a mistake which a lot of job seekers make and that is searching for jobs for a long period of time withouht any attempt to improve ourselve and make ourselves more markettable to potential employers. That brings me to the next issue, @tommytex No offence o, I dont know if you read otuonye's initial post carefully cause i can see the word FREE there. If it is free then why cant he go and gain more knowledge? its his gain. We need to acquire skills that will stand us out and place us in better positions to get the right jobs. |
Which of the info do u need correction on? |
@ Hot larry Hi, the salary is just ok, entry level is presently 1.8M with some other non monetised benefits like Medicals and also Profit sharing is twice a year. How ever the salary is currently being reviewed and as from march 2008 the new salary structure which promises to match the best in the industry will be introduced. @lateef4me. Hi Lateef, i can authoritatively inform you that Stanbic has a policy of making all staff permanent staff, there is nothing like contract staff in our dictionary. U are either a full staff or not a staff at all. As for the pay u should expect the same pay as a full staff. |
Hi all, Representing the Accounting Class of 2004. Presently work with IBTC Chartered Bank. |
Hi i will be taking the exam in june next year but i have quite a number of friends that are taking the December exam, If u can tell me why u want to hook up i might be able to convince them to. |

I know cause i work there and i will even be at the test venue tomorrow.
