NYSC › Senate Rejects Bill To Include Skirts In NYSC Uniform by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:21pm On Mar 07, 2018 |
A bill to amend the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act to include skirts in NYSC uniform could not scale second reading at the Senate on Wednesday.
The bill was rejected following concerns that such amendment required altering the constitution which involved a longer process.
Soliciting support of his colleagues, Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba-PDP) said the amendment was meant to give corps members the liberty of digressing from the rigid adherence to the NYSC uniform specification.
“This particular amendment especially in section 13 and 16 of the principal act is to achieve the following objectives; increase the penalty for offences contained in the Act to make such fines reflect the present value of the naira. To ensure that regulations made by the directorate prescribing drills and uniform for exercise do not violate certain religious practices.
“The uniform adopted for corps members have become a basis for controversy between the directorate and the public. In fact, some corps members drop out of service because of conflict they’ve witnessed.
“The major bone of contention is that some of the drills and uniform contravene the religious belief of corps members and invariably denying them right of religion, thought and conscience.”
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who took over from Bukola Saraki in presiding over the plenary called the attention of Mr. Bwacha to the provisions of Section 9 (2) of the Constitution.
“Section 9 (2) of the Constitution says that for you to amend the Constitution, it has to pass through the senate and the state assemblies. We have to follow the same process as if we are amending the Constitution. What we are trying to do here is like to amend the NYSC Act. I understand your position, we have to follow that process.”
In his contribution to the debate on the amendment, Barau Jibrin (Kano-APC) argued for the amendment to stand in conformity with various religions in the country.
“People of this country are either Christians, Muslims or traditionalists and we have our values. It appears the mode of dressing of NYSC contravenes this very important aspect of our religion. The amendment is simple. We should make it in tandem with our values, culture and religion,” he said.
Abubakar Kyari (Borno-APC) also agreed with this position, saying that the amendment conforms with the awareness of Nigerians which have evolved since establishment of NYSC.
“I know NYSC has been around for over 40 years but awareness also changes. People are now more aware of the cultural and religious belief now than before and I believe the mode of dressing should reflect this.”
The Senate thereafter rejected the bill after a second voice vote.
Addressing journalists shortly after the plenary, Mr. Bwacha accused the presiding officer of conspiracy to kill the bill.
“I said clearly there that there was a conspiracy from the chair. As a presiding officer, you keep your opinion. When a bill comes out, you allow members to discuss and debate freely.”
Mr. Bwacha explained why he introduced the bill and the benefits if it was allowed to stay.
“The bill that sought to amend the NYSC Act so as to increase the powers of the directorate to address issues pertaining to dress code did not scale through because it was largely misunderstood. The reason being that it was not intended to amend the Constitution, the issue in question, particularly the dress code has to do with the powers vested on the directorate by itself. The Constitution does not mention dress code for the NYSC.
“This bill arose as a result of series of complains I have received across Nigeria from those who have fallen out of service because they are not in agreement with the use of trouser as a female. They took up the complaint but the directorate didn’t give them attention. There are several number of corpers who refuse to continue with NYSC because they believe wearing of trouser as a female in public offends their faith.
“This issue is not controversial, it’s a simple policy statement by NYSC that would have changed it. But year-in, year-out, it has been so difficult. It has nothing to do with religion.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/07/nigerian-senate-rejects-bill-include-skirts-nysc-uniform/

Politics › Pension Fraud: Reps Committee Summons Okonjo-iweala, Oronsanye And Maina by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:24am On Mar 07, 2018 |
An ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives on Pension Reforms has summoned the immediate past minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former head of service of the federation, Mr. Steve Oronsanye, and the embattled chair of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms (PTTPF), Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.
The committee also summoned the acting chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu; the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele; the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris and the head of service of the federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-ita.
The concerned persons are to appear before the committee on Monday, March12, to state their roles and involvement in the alleged pension fraud from 2010.
The committee, however, warned invited persons against sending representatives, insisting that they are expected to appear in person.
The executive secretary of PTAD, Sharon Ikpeazor, had revealed what the agency had recovered so far at the public hearing organised by the House Ad-hoc Committee investigating the activities of the PTTPF from 2010 to the time of its dissolution.
She called on the lawmakers to assist the agency to go after erring insurance companies withholding the several billions of Legacy Fund traced to them.
She threatened that PTAD would not hesitate to engage the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies to recover the Legacy Fund.
Giving the breakdown of the money recovered so far, she said that while N6.7billion legacy fund recovered is domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), property worth N13.5 billion had also been recovered, making a total of N20.2billion.
Speaking on PTAD, Ikpeazor stated that the agency was responsible for the pension administration of the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), which are the Civil Service Pension Department, the Police Pension Office and the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Office (CIPPO).
She said that the agency, which was able to reduce the police pension liabilities from N16.501 billion to N7 billion after reconciliation, had saved the sum of N90.652 million monthly from police pension allowance, while N1.4 billion liabilities was yet to be offset.
While explaining to the lawmakers what the agency had done so far, the executive secretary said that PTAD had inherited 18,370 pensioners from the old pension scheme, and that due to its diligence, it was able to eliminate 3,324 pensioners who did not show up for verification as at May 2015.
She noted that the agency had collaborated with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to collapse four pension accounts for ease of management, adding that the sum of N15.025 billion was domiciled in Zenith Bank; N2.483 billion in Union Bank; N720 million in UBA and N193.629 million in Access Bank as at October 2013.
“Total sum of N9.252 billion pooled from various defunct Customs, Prisons and Immigration pension account was used to pay N6.513 billion of the 42 months arrears of 33% pension arrears in June and August, 2016, leaving balance of N2.739 billion.
“Of the total sum of N26 billion Legacy Fund traced to all the insurance companies, N20.3 billion has so far been recovered.
“N6.7 billion cash recovered has been domiciled with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) while properties worth N13.5 billion are being re-valued by Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.”
The lawmakers, who frowned at what was happening to the pension funds, alleged that funds and property running into several billions of naira had not been accounted for. https://leadership.ng/2018/03/07/pension-fraud-reps-committee-summon-okonjo-iweala-oronsanye/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Crime › Drug Dealer Buries Himself Alive In US To Escape Arrest (Photos) by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:55pm On Mar 06, 2018 |
A suspected drug dealer ran from the Police and buried himself in the mud after he was pulled over in a car full of cocaine and crystal meth.
The suspect, Joe Hobson Jr, was pulled over on Interstate 20 near Conyers, Georgia, USA, on Thursday on suspicion of drug trafficking – but fled shortly after the traffic stop.
Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter, and two hours later, the convicted felon was found with his feet sticking out of a muddy drainage creek.
He had buried himself there in an attempt to evade capture, only to become stuck.
Photos posted to Conyers Police Department’s Facebook page afterwards show a sheepish-looking Hobson staring up from the mire, with officials working to help him up from the mud pit.
He was also photographed being carried away on a stretcher to the hospital for medical attention.
He was charged with possession of 29 grams of cocaine, seven grams of methamphetamine, 12 ounces of weed and oxycodine, as well as liquid codeine.
Hobson was further charged with possession of two handguns – one of which was stolen – and had $4,000 cash on him at the time of his arrest.
Conyers Police wrote on Facebook: “This convicted felon is now back behind bars following a rather unusual series of unfortunate events (for him) yesterday (Thursday March 1).
“Rockdale Fire Rescue did a fantastic job safely extracting Hobson from an extremely dangerous predicament.
“He was transported by National EMS to the hospital and confined to Rockdale County Jail before the night was over.
“Thank you to all that supported the manhunt in the rain yesterday and we are thankful for the successful outcome.” 3rd photo: His proceeds from crimehttp://punchng.com/suspected-drug-dealer-buries-himself-alive-to-escape-arrest/

Politics › Ibrahim Magu Right Person For EFCC Job - VP Osinbajo Say by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:27pm On Mar 06, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari still believes that the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, is the right person for the job. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said this in an interview with journalists in Lagos Friday.
His spokesman, Laolu Alande, released the transcript of what he called the third part of the interview, to State House reporters Tuesday night.
Osinbajo said while the Senate, which had refused to confirm Magu as substantive chairman of the EFCC, is entitled to taking any position; Buhari, who has the prerogative to decide his fate, believes that he is the right man for the job.
He said Buhari, in order to display good leadership, did not interfere with the indicting report on Magu to the Senate by the Department of State Service.
"While you will find, for example, that the DG, SSS, upon the request by the Senate, wrote a security report and sent it, yet it is up to the President to decide whether he's going to present this candidate.
"Interfering with the process of a security report is not leadership, that's obstructing. He is not supposed to interfere.
If you say, "Send your report", whatever report you want to send, the man defends himself, and we still believe he is the right person for the job. That is the position that we took when he was presented the second time.
"Of course, the Senate has had their own say on that and they are entitled to take some of the positions they are taking. But the President believes that this is the right man for the job, so he presented him the second time," the vice president said.
Osinbajo disagreed with the interviewers that the fact that the DSS wrote such a damming report on Magu indicated a crack in the administration.
He stated: "That's not true. Let me put it this way; first let's take the Magu example. One of the things that the President decided to do is to ensure that every agency does its work without direct interference from the President.
"So the President does not call the EFCC, and say, "Go and arrest Mr Ekpeyong", no. And that's one of the most important things about the style of this government, and we want the agencies to do their work. No one has showed up and called Magu and say, 'Look go and arrest.' That's what it is."
Speaking about the arrest of the former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, Osinbajo said the president did dictate to the EFCC on whom to arrest.
With respect to the arrest of (former) DG, NIA, and some of what took place, I think the fair thing to say is that the President has said that the EFCC has the absolute right to go ahead and do whatever it needs to do to ensure that anybody who has committed a crime, or who is suspected to having committed a crime, is brought to justice, and that's the position that the EFCC has taken.
"You know the EFCC has issued a notice for the DG, NIA, and SGF to attend interview with the EFCC; but we are sure that that process would be followed to a logical conclusion.
"To ensure that you allow government agency do their business, that's very important; that's institution building. Look at what is happening in the US today.
The President is sometimes angry with the FBI because the FBI is doing its independent work, and that's what we hope to achieve, when you see countries where agencies are doing their work the way they are supposed to do it, he explained. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/magu-right-person-for-efcc-job-osinbajo.htmlLalasticlala, Mynd44

Politics › 90 Million Nigerians Lack Electricity Supply - Fashola Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 8:25am On Mar 06, 2018 |
About 1.5 billion people across the globe lack electricity supply, half of which live in Africa, with Nigeria accounting for 90 million of such people, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola said on Monday.
He said this while delivering a key note address at the annual international conference of the Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law (CPEEL), University of Ibadan (UI).
At the conference were participants from 20 African countries.
Speaking on the theme, “Developing Renewable Energy in Africa: The Interplay of Technology, Economics and Law”, Fashola said “Africans have trillions standard cubic feet (SCFs) of natural gas reserves, billions of barrels of crude oil reserves and billions of tonnes of coal; but Africa has even greater abundance of renewal energy resources. unfortunately, of the nearly 1.5 billion people estimated to lack electricity supply the world over, half live-in Africa. Nigeria alone is estimated to have over 90 million people living without electricity supply according to the world bank”.
He noted that to make electricity available to all Nigerians, efforts must be concentrated to develop renewable energy along with conventional power plants to maintain a balanced energy in in the short, medium and long-term.
Fashola said renewable energies were the fastest power plants that can be deployed as the technologies required are compatible with what he described as the nations decentralized, stand-alone ideal for local, rural communities.
The former Lagos State Governor who was represented by the Acting Director, Renewable and Rural Power Access Development, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Faruk Yabo, was, however, quick to add that efforts must be intensified at improving the transmission grid.
He said “The huge energy deficit and the negative environmental impact of using fossil fuel for energy generation, as well as the falling costs of renewable energy technologies like solar power, are driving the current energy transition towards renewable energy as being witnessed across the world, including here in Africa”.
On the efforts by the President Muhammadu Buharu administration to improve electricity in Nigeria, Fashola said “Federal government is implementing off-grid renewable energy solutions such as rural mini-grids, standalone home solutions, IPP for Federal Universities, Teaching Hospitals and large-scale solar PV projects such as the Jigawa solar city.
“In 2018 we are making efforts to complete and commission the following renewable energy projects: 10 MW Katsina wind farm, 30MW Gurara Hydro Power, 29MW Dadin Kowa Hydropower and 40MW Kashimbila HydroPower, 700MW Zungeru Hydro Power and the 14 Solar IPP are expected to come on stream soon”.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Dr. Gbade Ojo noted that “the good Lord has blessed us with abundant diverse natural resources that are continuously replenished continuously. But we need the policy to encourage investors in developing the technology for Africa and to also embolden financials to allocate huge funds to renewable energy development in Africa.
“The outlook of us as policymakers, researchers and investors is a strategic partnership that will result to increase in the contribution of renewable energy generation in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, in a way that will make it attractive, accessible and affordable to the general public”.
He charged the participants to “enlighten policymakers on the significant opportunities in renewable energy, which includes but not limited to energy efficiency, energy security, reduction in environmental pollution especially air pollution and improve public healthcare and one must not forget economic benefits to the users and the government”.
UI Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka in his remarks disclosed that the conference and the theme were very relevant and important at this critical period, given the current energy challenges.
Olainka added that the “significance is not just for the town but also for the gown as the University spends very considerable amount of money to ensure stable electricity supply that can support research, training and other activities on campus that will impact the nation and the world positively.”
He appealed to the government to revisit the pledge of a support to build a 10MW solar plant in collaboration with Germany in the UI, two years ago, noting that the project has not made any significant progress since it was launched.
He said “I will like to remind the Hon. Minister that about two years ago, the Federal Government made a pledge of support to build a 10MW Solar Plant in collaboration with the German for the University. While other universities have been included in the scheme, the University of Ibadan is yet to record any progress on the plant.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the Minister and the Rural Electrification Agency to revisit the project given that the successful completion will further aid research and training activities in the University as we all work very hard to make UI the best among the rest”.
CPEEL Director, Professor Adeola Adenikiju in his welcome address said the objectives of organizing the conference, which was the third in the series was, “to bring together senior policymakers, industry experts and academics to discuss current energy issues that are relevant to the 20 countries in the Gulf of Guinea region; to address energy challenges in a multidisciplinary framework as well as to encourage the sharing of experiences among the countries in the sub-region and from other parts of the world in order to learn best practices from each other.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/06/90-million-nigerians-lack-electricity-supply-fashola/

Politics › President Buhari Set To Visit Yobe, Benue, Zamfara, Rivers, Taraba Over Crisis by BeeBeeOoh(op): 4:42pm On Mar 05, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari will embark on tours of Taraba, Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers States, where there had been either terrorist attacks, criminal activities or communal clashes.
He will visit Mambilla, Taraba state today, before embarking on the trip to Ghana, to attend the 61st independence anniversary of the country.
A statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, issued in Abuja on Monday, said the President decided on the visits after reviewing security reports on the incidents.
The presidential aide noted that the unfortunate incidents in the affected states had led to tragic loss of lives and kidnapping of innocent Nigerians, including 110 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram on 19 February, in Dapchi, Yobe State.
Adesina recalled that the President had earlier directed the Armed Forces and other security agencies to compile comprehensive reports on the various incidents.
He said: “Having received and studied the reports, the President has decided to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the various occurrences and to meet and console the communities affected.
“From today, March 5, he will visit Taraba, and subsequently Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers States.’’
According to Adesina, President Buhari has been receiving daily briefings and is in constant touch with the Governors for update on the situations.
He quoted the President as calling on all Nigerians especially those in the affected areas, to cooperate fully with security agencies to enable them curb the spate of crimes, prevent further occurrence, arrest perpetrators and bring them to justice. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/03/buhari-finally-decides-visit-yobe-benue-zamfara-rivers-taraba-crises/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Politics › Why President Buhari And I Didn't Visit Dapchi - VP Osinbajo Reveals by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:10am On Mar 05, 2018 |
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has spoken on the reason he and President Muhammadu Buhari have not visited Dapchi in Yobe state where 110 students were abducted two weeks ago.
Both men have been criticised for not paying condolence visits to places where abductions and avoidable deaths were recorded in recent times.
Among these states are Benue, Zamfara and Taraba.
Speaking with journalists over the weekend, Osinbajo said while the government has expressed sympathy with the people, condolence visits alone would not solve the problem.
He listed some of the measures which the government has embarked upon to reduce killings and widespread violence.
“There is no amount of condolence that can compensate for the loss of life. Benue killing is one set of killing far too much; there is no amount of condolence that can compensate for that. And I want to say that it’s a massive tragedy,” he said.
“But the question that you seem to ask I’ve been to Zamfara, I’ve been to Adamawa when this killing took place. There are those who said, ‘oh, why don’t you visit the Fulani settlement, why do visit only where Christians were?’
“I even visited Benue in September where there have been killing before; then I’ve visited them when the flooding took place and we looked at all the issues and tried to address many of these. There have been several of these issues in different places, recently Dapchi. We have expressed condolences, but no amount of condolence would do.
“The more important thing and our focus has been, is first of all ensuring security in these places.
“We have to address the security question in a much more robust way; that the police are able to do these effectively. We have deployed the military to Kaduna, two battalions to Kaduna. In Benue and Taraba axis, we have the 93 battalion, we have 72 Special Forces. We have full concentration in Taraba and all of that, and by the way, the military is fighting in most of the north-east. So, there is a situation where the military is overstretched. So I think the most important thing is, first of all, to ensure they actually address the security of the people.”
NO FAVOURTISM IN BUHARI’S GOVERNMENT
He also debunked the allegations that most appointments by president Buhari were skewed in favour of the north.
The vice-president said the cabinet is comprised of 20 Christians and 18 Muslims.
“In the north, seven northern states have no senior minister, including the president’s home state, Katsina. Now, there are those who will say, if you are nepotistic; surely seven northern states have no senior minister. It’s a narrative depending on how you want to run it,” he said.
“The south-west, for the first time in the history of this country, has one minister who is in charge of three ministries: Power, Works and Housing. The ministers of finance and communications are also from the south-east. These are critical ministries. You can run the narrative in whichever way that you choose.
“There are people who don’t know that the number of CEOs from Anambra state are more than the number of CEOs from Katsina state or anywhere else, except Ogun.” https://www.thecable.ng/osibanjo-buhari-didnt-visit-dapchi

Politics › Why Passage Of Nigeria's 2018 Budget Is Being Delayed - Official by BeeBeeOoh(op): 8:47am On Mar 05, 2018 |
The Budget Office of the Federation has debunked claims that the 2018 budget has not been passed because some details required for its passage were not submitted.
Ben Akabueze, Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, said in a statement Sunday that media reports suggesting that the FGN 2018 Budget was submitted to the National Assembly without details for some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were inaccurate.
The National Assembly recently criticised the MDAs for delaying the passage of the budget due to their Ill-preparedness to attend scheduled meetings and provide relevant information needed by the lawmakers to carry out their job of scrutinising the proposals.
However, Mr. Akabueze said that on November 7, 2017 when President Muhammadu Buhari laid before the National Assembly (NASS) the Executive budget proposals for 2018 , it had “all the usual details required by the National Assembly to process the budget.”
These details, the statement said, included that of the budgets of all federal MDAs based on the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) budget templates.
It noted that in the course of its review of the budget proposals, the National Assembly normally invites the MDAs to appear before them to defend the President’s budget submissions.
“Given the seriousness the Presidency attaches to getting the 2018 budget passed so it could earnestly focus on achieving the goals set out in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan 2017-20 (ERGP), which formed the basis of the budget, it had directed heads of ministries and extra-ministerial agencies to attend to any requests for meetings/information by the National Assembly (NASS) with despatch,” the statement said.
“To the best of our knowledge, this directive has been complied with. Should any committees of NASS still experience any issues with attendance of any MDA, the Minister of Budget & National Planning has indicated that he is available to liaise with the particular MDA to ensure full cooperation with NASS by the relevant MDA.”
On complaints about additional information with respect to the budgets of Government Owned Agencies (GOEs), Mr. Akabueze said the issues are being addressed.
He however pointed out that the FGN Budget is distinct from the budget of Government Owned Enterprises (GOEs) and as such any delay in the GOEs providing additional details on their budgets should not affect the early passage of the “FGN Main Budget.”
“It will be recalled that the Senate at its February 14, 2018 sitting had complained that some GOEs had not submitted the details of their 2018 budget in a format acceptable to the Senate.
“It directed these GOEs to submit their 2018 budget details in the format required by the Senate within a week. It is important to note that it is the GOEs, and not MDAs, that the Senate complained about.
“Whilst the budgets of these GOEs are separate and distinct from the main Federal Government Budget, we would like to explain that their budgets were also included, as attachments, in the 2018 budget package presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly (NASS) on 7th November, 2017.”
The statement, however, noted that as is sometimes the case, the respective committees of the NASS which oversight the GOEs may require them to provide additional details to support their budget proposals.
Mr. Akabueze said the Budget Office had intervened directly with the affected GOEs to obtain the details in the format requested by the Senate, adding that most of them have since complied with the Senate’s requirement.
“Whilst any delay in providing these additional details by the GOEs does not affect the early passage of the FGN budget, the Budget Office is following up to ensure that every GOE complies with the directives of the Senate,” the statement said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/260696-passage-nigerias-2018-budget-delayed-official.htmlhttps://i1.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2016/01/Buhari_laying_2016_budget.png?w=720&ssl=1

Politics › How I've Been Managing Herdsmen And Farmer's Clashes - Gov. Okowa Reveals by BeeBeeOoh(op): 10:17pm On Mar 03, 2018*. Modified: 11:12am On Mar 04, 2018 |
GOVERNOR of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has explained how he’s been managing the clashes between herdsmen and farmers in various parts of the state while waiting for the Federal Government’s lasting solution.
Okowa gave the explanation on Saturday while featuring on The Platform, a programme anchored by Sam Omatseye on TVC, Lagos.
“It is a huge problem. It is there in almost all the states of the country. It is very worrisome.
“I hope the Federal government would come out with a policy plan on how to tackle this strongly.
“I know that they set up a committee of some governors and the Vice President with a view to proffering a solution.
“And we hope that solution comes in as quickly as possible because it is a huge problem that creates not only insecurity but affects also the economy of poor Nigerians, as you find the animals destroying peoples cassava, destroying yams and other forms of farm produce,” he noted.
He listed some of the measures adopted in the state to curb the incidence of herdsmen/farmers clashes in the state.
“In Delta State, we have been working hard with the Police. We have also created an office to manage conflict, I have a Special Adviser on Conflict Resolution, I also have two other appointees, who work very closely with me and who are specifically detailed to manage herdsmen/farmers challenge.
“One of them is a Northerner, the other one is a Deltan who was brought up in the North and speaks Hausa fluently. “And to that extent, we have been able to minimize, though we still have occasional clashes.
“We have also involved the traditional rulers, to try and advise them. We have held two sets of meetings with the traditional institution and the farmers themselves and representatives of Miyetti Allah.
“We held a meeting early last year and we held one two weeks ago. We have also gone ahead to constitute a committee at the local government level which involves the local government councils, Police at the local government level, traditional rulers, Miyetti Allah and some opinion leaders in every local government area to try to handle such issues. But all these we are doing are mere palliatives.
“There has to be a direction because people cannot just continue to migrate continuously and probably aimlessly into peoples’ farms because that’s not the original intent.
“It is different if the cattle were moving and grazing on grass and not on the legitimate efforts and produce of people. But the situation has changed. Obviously, that is not acceptable and all over the country there has been a lot of cries,” the governor stated.
Okowa, however, reiterated his earlier stance that there is no land in Delta State for Cattle Colonies.
“Ideally, it is for them to have ranches. There have been cattle ranches in the Mambila area for some time. So why can’t they do ranches?
“And for those who have plenty of lands and want colonies, we have nothing against it. But for us in Delta State and for most of the South-South, I do know, we have limited land for agriculture and therefore it is difficult for us to be able to relinquish such land to cattle colonies.
“Obviously we have a lot of water and waterlogged land in our area, most of the available land has been degraded as a result of oil exploration activities and the little that is left is being used for agriculture and we hope that a solution would be found soon,” he averred.
Meanwhile, the surgeon-turned politician has urged the Federal Government to expedite action on plans to do more in arresting the menace of herdsmen/farmers clashes in the country before it goes out of proportion. http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/ive-managing-herdsmen-farmers-clashes-%e2%80%95okowa/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44

One sure thing you can do is use desensitization cream and engage in very long romance Then another thing is to have frequent sex. Your body would get use to it and the excitement would die off Don’t ask me how I know I have friends ok

Tecno66: If INEC wanted to get the truth, they should have appointed a southerner to head this investigating committee and not another northerner who will want to cover the track. I dont expect them to expose how somebody got 2 million votes in a recent election. We all know that kano result in the last was marred with fraud, but to avoid blood flowing on the streets of Nigeria that's why we are where we are today |

Mogidi: Even with photo and video evidence they're still denying. How can Prof Yakubu a known associate of Buhari conduct a free and fair election when his friend Buhari is contesting? That's why i always laugh at people who chant on top of their voices about voting Mr. Buhari out come 2019 because he's already the winner if he decides to recontest. If i may ask, has there been anytime in Nigeria the president and INEC chairman came from same region? Truly, truly Nigeria is doomed |

Politics › Fulfill Your Promises To Nigerians - APC United Kingdom Tells President Buhari by BeeBeeOoh(op): 2:16pm On Mar 02, 2018*. Modified: 5:50pm On Mar 02, 2018 |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United Kingdom, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that his government’s projects and services are based on the party’s manifesto to fulfil “our binding social contract with the Nigerian people”.
Its Chairman, Dr Philip Idaewor, in a statement, said this would “enable Nigerians see the values and visions of the APC for a new Nigeria where character, ethics and service to our country are values that will enable the emergence of the new nation we all desire”.
He noted that APC “remains the best ideological vehicle to rapidly transform our polity and our country into one that works and one in which the lives of all peoples matter”.
The chieftain commended Buhari for setting up a reconciliation committee led by a national leader, Bola Tinubu, stressing that the move would ensure unity and peace within the party across the country.
“APC needs to be in harmony with itself in order to attract the best minds from within its rank for national development”, he said.
“Reconciliation would also ensure that forces who wish to play politics with the lives of Nigerians under the watch of the APC government are not given the oxygen to foment troubles for political gains.
“All patriots and progressives in our beloved party must join hands with the leadership to ensure that peace, discipline and vitality is restored within and between the leadership and members of the party at all levels”.
Idaewor, however, lamented that, “many of our leaders do not understand the enormity of the challenges they agreed to take on themselves and therefore view all their actions from the lens of political gains.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/02/fulfil-promises-nigerians-apc-tells-buhari/Lalasticlala, Mynd44
