Politics › NBS: We Have No Data To Back Up Minister Of Labour's Claim On 7Million New Jobs by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:56am On Jan 30, 2018 |
Yemi Kale, statistician general of the federation, says the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has no data on the job creation claims made by Chris Ngige, minister of labour and productivity.
The data chief made this statement in an interview with Abang Mercy.
Ngige had earlier said the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has created seven million jobs through its programmes.
But Kale said during the interview: “We don’t have the data anyway, that data of is 6 or 7 million, we don’t have that. I can’t comment on what other data users or data producers say but I can comment on what we produce here as the official source of data.
“We have not produced any data on job creation, we produced data on people that were unemployed at the particular time and that is what we are sticking to.
“We don’t do politics at the NBS, the National Bureau of Statistics is the official source of data. Our law does not allow us to be countered. The law says very clearly that NBS is the official source of Nigerian data.
“Everybody else can have their opinion, they can do their own computations if they want to but when it comes to national data, the authoritative source, the custodian of all data is the NBS.
“So we don’t comment on what other people even ministers say as far as data is concerned. Our data is for evidence based policy and decision making and that is what we do.” https://www.thecable.ng/nbs-no-data-audu-ogbe-ngiges-job-creation-claims |

Politics › Nigeria To Get Private National Carrier Soon - Aviation Ministry by BeeBeeOoh(op): 12:10am On Jan 30, 2018 |
•AU okays single air transport marketMinister of State for Aviation Hadi Sirika said yesterday that Nigeria will soon have a full private sector-driven national carrier.
He spoke in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union after the AU inaugurated the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) aimed at enhancing connectivity among member nations and ensuring cheaper continental flights
Sirika said the government would provide enabling environment and support so as to take advantage of the Single Air Transport Market launched by the African Union.
Apart from Nigerian entrepreneurs, he said that the African Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and the Chinese Exim Bank as well as countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Rwanda, Namibia and Niger Republic would participate in the initiative.
“We are very close to having a national carrier at the moment. We are at the stage of transaction services. We have affiliations which will be dealt with. I hope within this week, you will hear from me on where we are. It will be soon.
“We have been having alliances, discussions and co-operations regarding establishment of a national carrier in Nigeria. It is going to be a full private sector driven. And if that happens, the government will provide enabling environment and support. And once that is done, Nigeria is on its way to greatness. Most importantly, the prices of tickets and the efficiency of service will be much better.
“Apart from enterpremeurs within Nigeria, institutions like African Development Bank has written to us that they are willing to support us and partner with us to drive this process. So also the Islamic Development Bank. So also the Exim Bank.
“Countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Morocco and Egypt have been coming around to try to participate and partner with us. And lately, Rwanda, Namibia and Niger Republic. So, we are getting there soon,” Sirika said.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame and the chairperson of the AU Commission Moussa Faki, launched the market in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the close of the 30th AU Summit.
Kagame said Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe would lead the continent in ensuring full implementation of the market.
He thanked the AU Commission for its efforts towards ensuring the floating of the market which he said “is very important for the development of our continent in line with our many projects that will take us to our wishes for the year 2063.
“I’m glad that we can achieve some of these now or tomorrow, especially this particular project. I am happy for associating myself with the progress that we have made so far.” http://thenationonlineng.net/nigeria-get-private-national-carrier-says-minister/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

There is disquiet in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the camp of President Muhammadu Buhari over the disposition of some stalwarts of the party to the fortune of the party ahead of next year’s polls.
Senate President BukolaSaraki; House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara; Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; ex-Governor Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso; ex-Governor Aliyu Wammako; ex-Governor Danjuma Goje; ex-Governor Ahmed Sani Yerima and some APC governors are among such party chieftains.
Some of them dumped the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be part of the coalition which led to the birth of the APC. So treasury looters(former PDP members) are among our party of "Saints? This is unbelievable Prominent politicians across party divide are said to be already lining up to join the “Third Force.”
It was learnt that a few of them, including some APC Senators and members of the House of Representatives, have practically abandoned the party.
A top source in Buhari’s camp said: “Most of these top leaders have not been forthcoming on the second term aspiration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Some of these leaders are too silent to trust. Look, the loyalists of Buhari are also not taking things for granted at all. At a time Buhari will be deserted like Sahara But a source, who had attended some dinners with Buhari, said: “I think the President is also watching his steps because he has not come out categorically that he is interested in a second term.
“For instance, at the last dinner with ex-Governor Kalu and others, he only ate with us. In spite of the fact that ex-Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso was at the session, Buhari did not tell us he would seek a second term ticket. Buhari's body odour is now on diminishing return. Sai Barber “I think some leaders in the party are suspicious of Tambuwal because he has refused to commit himself to the seven governors spearheading the second term aspiration of the President. Oga has repeatedly told them that the mood of this country is not for politics now. He has always said during politics, we will play politics. Tambuwal knew deep inside him that Buhari has failed God, humanity, his kinsmen and himself altogether, so he's distancing himself from failure “But some of these governors are in the forefront of second term agitation because their political fate is tied to Buhari because they have not performed in office.” This is reason why that young failure, Yahaya Bello is ready to lick Buhary's hairy old wrinkled arse with the Kogites intelligence. God help Kogites Another source said: “Those leaders from the North are keeping their game plan to their chest because of the consequences of early opposition to Buhari’s second term ambition by some of his blind loyalists who can start hurling missiles at every occasion. But our Sai Babarians here on NL told us that Buhari has the North in his chest pocket already. 2019: A Year That Is Pregnant With So Many Expectations And Varieties |

Politics › Military Force Alone Can't Defeat Terrorism - President Buhari Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 10:11pm On Jan 27, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said military force and law enforcement measures alone could not defeat terrorism.
He said African leaders must adopt what he described as multifaceted approach to tackle the scourge.
Buhari said this at a meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council on the sidelines of the 30th AU Summit holding in in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The council is a standing organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
“Terrorism cannot be defeated only through military force and law enforcement measures. We need to adopt a multifaceted approach of good governance, economic development and creation of job opportunities for our youths,” Buhari said.
He said Nigeria was gravely concerned over the increasing threats by transnational terrorism and the attendant humanitarian crisis.
He condemned the continued activities of terrorist groups in Africa and around the world and called for more concerted action by the council and the rest of the international community to address the scourge.
“For us to combat the threats posed by transnational terrorism, we must first of all address the conditions that are conducive to the spread of extremism, radicalisation and terrorism in our communities.
“We must take collaborative measures to disrupt terrorists recruitment and financing networks. We must find effective ways to stop the movement of foreign fighters,” the President added.
Buhari said Nigeria was encouraged by the sustained multidimensional fight against the Boko Haram and their foreign supporters which led to the degrading of the group, through the multinational joint task force.
He extolled the efforts of the Lake Chad Basin countries and Benin, the AU and the international community in achieving that feat.
He said the replication of the multinational joint task force model should be encouraged for countering terrorism on the continent.
The President acknowledged that in spite of the achievements so far recorded, there are still some pockets of terrorist activities within the Lake Chad Basin region particularly North Eastern part of Nigeria.
He called on the international community for more support in addressing the menace of Boko Haram and the attendant humanitarian crisis. http://punchng.com/military-force-alone-cant-defeat-terrorism-says-buhari/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Politics › Anti-Open Grazing Law: Mansur Dan-Ali, A Disgrace To Democracy - Benue APC by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:00pm On Jan 27, 2018 |
The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the Minister of Defense, Mansur Dan-Ali is a disgrace to democracy for telling Nigerians and other members of the public that the attack on two communities in Benue that led to the death of over 70 innocent people and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira was as a result of the open grazing prohibition law enacted by the State Government.
State Chairman of the APC, Abba Yaro who also called for the resignation of the Defense Minister and an apology to the state in a statement made available to Sunday Sun averred that the statement credited to the Defense Minister was a flatly ridiculous absurdity and the highest level of public disgrace to democracy and the Nigerian populace.
“By this singular utterance, the Minister of Defence, Col. Muhammad Mansur Dan Ali (rtd) has inarguably displayed incontestable lack of the required sensibility and capacity to serve as Defence Minister in a country of over 180 million people with over 300 ethnic nationalities.
“As an integral part of the country, Nigeria and as a State that gave President Muhammadu Buhari an edge in the 2015 general elections, we demand that Col. Mansur Dan Ali (rtd) resigns his position as Nigeria’s Defence Minister immediately and tender an unreserved apology to the good people of Benue State and the country at large.”
The Party questioned the real motive behind Dan-Ali’s statement and demanded that he publicly explains to the party leadership why his reckless utterances should not be considered as a deliberate ploy to truncate the party’s victory in the 2019 general election.
“Through his statement, as an insider, Dan-Ali appears to have been contracted by the opposition to work against the APC. Minister Mansur apparently is one of those who are working against the unity of Nigeria and must be stopped now before he and others with such parochial, hateful, divisive and repulsive tendencies plunge the country into deeper crisis.
“In as much as we would not dignify Col. Mansur with obnoxious affronts, we would again want to inform him that he is not just an ingrate, but an unrepentant pathological opportunist who was in his farm working for the PDP when many of us toiled the nooks and crannies of this country to ensure victory for President Muhammadu Buhari in the election that brought him (Buhari) to power through which he (Mansur) is one of the biggest beneficiaries.”
The party however declared its support for Governor Samuel Ortom, and reiterated its commitment towards making the open grazing prohibition law our number one priority in the State. http://sunnewsonline.com/defense-minister-a-disgrace-to-democracy-apc/

Politics › It's Disgraceful No Nigerian Refinery Performs Up To 50% - President Buhari Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:14pm On Jan 26, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said it was disgraceful that no Nigerian refinery currently performs up to 50 per cent capacity.
He recalled that during his tenure as a military Head of State, all the nation’s refineries were working.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari spoke when he received a delegation from Eni, led by the Chief Upstream Officer, Mr. Antonio Vella, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari said apart from satisfying the demands of local market, Nigeria was also exporting 100,000 barrels of petrol during the period under review.
He said, “In my first coming, all our refineries were working. Port Harcourt used to refine 60,000 barrels per day, and it was later upgraded to 100,000 barrels.
“Kaduna and Warri were also working optimally, and we used to satisfy the demands of the local market. We also exported 100,000 barrels of refined petrol.
“Now, no refinery is performing up to 50%. It is a disgraceful thing.”
Buhari also appreciated Eni for its upcoming investments in the oil industry, which include rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery, and the building of a new one.
Leader of the Eni delegation, Vella, said his organisation had presented a technical proposal to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt refinery.
He said the firm had also done a feasibility study on a new refinery of up to 150,000 barrels per day capacity.
“Site selection has been completed, and 50 new graduates have already arrived in Italy for a training that will last seven months.
“There are other upstream initiatives, and a deep water project, with estimated expenditure of $13bn,” Vella disclosed.
The oil company also plans to double power generation capacity from its plant in Delta State from its present 500MW to 1,000MW, spending $750m in the process. http://punchng.com/its-disgraceful-no-nigerian-refinery-performs-up-to-50-buhari/

Politics › I Will Use Extra Oil Income To Boost Infrastructure - President Buhari Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:28pm On Jan 26, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari says the extra income derived from the oil sector would be spent on projects like roads, rail, and power.
Buhari said this when Antonio Vella, chief upstream officer of Eni, led a delegation to the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday.
The provisions of the 2018 budget had been predicated on $45 per barrel by the executive, and the senate had adjusted it to $47 per barrel.
Oil prices have, however, risen to $70 per barrel, this week.
Buhari also lamented that no Nigerian refinery currently performs up to 50 percent capacity.
He recalled that during his tenure as a military head of state, all the nation’s refineries were working.
“In my first coming, all our refineries were working. Port Harcourt used to refine 60,000 barrels per day, and it was later upgraded to 100,000 barrels,” he said.

“Now, no refinery is performing up to 50%. It is a disgraceful thing.”
Buhari also appreciated Eni for its upcoming investments in the oil industry, which include rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery, and the building of a new one.
Vella, said his organisation had presented a technical proposal to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt refinery.
He said the firm had also done a feasibility study on a new refinery of up to 150,000 barrels per day capacity.
“Site selection has been completed, and 50 new graduates have already arrived in Italy for a training that will last seven months,” he said.
