TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by behati: 4:14pm On Feb 01, 2018
Hello house, been silently following the thread. So I got PPR last year and did soft landing because I sort of wanted to get a job or at least be in the process of getting one before I move. I got the freetone app, included the number on my CV and applied for jobs. More recently, I started to contact talent attraction managers of the companies I was interested in on LinkedIn, it was hard for me to do but I decided to anyway since the worst I'll get is a "NO". Some didn't respond and I would send reminders after a week or two and I started getting positive replies, emails, phone interviews and video interviews. Summary is i just got a job in Canada right here in Nigeria. Although the job required someone with a CPA designation, i managed to convince them that i had ICAN which would make it easy when i want to obtain a CPA designation.

Just thought to encourage someone to TRY!

Wow...that's awesome....Please if i may ask, i have also been using freetone which worked well at first, only to later realize that it no longer rings but just shows missed calls. I have missed a lot of calls because of this. Did you experience such?
Hi Damidamsel, I know your question wasn't directed at me but I have experienced same and it was mainly due to the fact that my phone was on silent mode, and i didnt set call notification to a ringtone, so I don't hear it ring and only notice the missed call when I open the app. Once I removed it from silent mode and changed the notification from my settings, it was okay.

I think it will be unfair of me to read that reference letter is sufficient enough for A11.2 (Eligibility) and I won’t say anything. What I have come to understand in this journey is that if you approach it with a lazy attitude, there are some VOs that will address your laziness.

I keep repeating - you don’t want to go through the emotional trauma of not seeing any significant movement in your application and when you send a mail, the response is that you should minimize communication. Canadians are subtle with insult. Trust me, you don’t want to experience that. You don’t want to be on the phone and a CPC agent is telling you that he/she cannot see your file and your file is wide open on their computer screen.

Some people are fortunate, but not all will be. Save yourself that trouble of worries, less sleep, lack of concentration, unnecessary anger and package your application like a professional.
I actually thought you were being sarcastic with your original post. Boss, this is not the TRUTH. A reference letter in CIC format is very sufficient for this process. If you feel like adding extras, that's entirely up to you.

Sounds reasonable enough, thanks!

I was going to dive into the pool this week as I've got my ECA and IELTS with good enough points but my fiance and I thought it best to go in together, we're getting married next year but she'll be back in December for our introduction and court wedding. We expect to get ITA on the first draw after the court wedding is done. Gathered almost all our documents and its possible to submit within a week of ITA. My question is, hope this won't seem shady as the date on the marriage certificate would be recent as though we did the marriage for the sole purpose of migration, which isn't the case

Anyone been in a similar situation and gotten PPR?
This shouldn't be a problem. People that even got married after receiving AOR and added their spouse thereafter have successfully gotten PPR.

I did my medicals at children's practice,Ikoyi and can't remember doing any eye test. I use glasses too. Also, I don't think anyone can fail medicals due to poor vision as it is not likely to be a burden on their health system. Best of luck.

Guys,

How can I get a Job through the job bank portal? Who has been successful with this?
Job bank is just like any other job search engine. Search for jobs that match your profile, follow the instructions and apply. I don't know anyone that has done it and people argue that its difficult but not impossible to get a job in Canada while in Nigeria. Goodluck!

You suggest I send a mail to Ottawa?
Yes, you should. That's what I did when I got that update and was informed that my file has moved to London VO.

Same thing happened to me on Saturday. It's now 'we do not need additional documents'. 94 days post AOR.
This update means that your file has moved from CIO to a LVO, that's has been the trend for folks stuck in CIO, you can email them to find out what your LVO is. Mine is London and that means a really long wait.

There in absolutely NOTHING wrong with using the letterhead for this purpose...

Firstly, CIC says either HR or Supervisor can sign the letter...

Secondly, it's an official document stating official duties... Except false information is being put on it for CIC. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with it.

With reference to the GTB issue, it was false information not a case of using the company letterhead.
It is wrong to use a company's letter head paper in discriminately. This is not about CIC, its about the Company. Was your supervisor given permission by HR (who handles all employee related affairs) to issue and sign a reference letter? Only then can the letter be termed an official document. Otherwise, it is just your supervisor helping out based on your relationship with him and in that instance has no business using a company's letter head paper.
The crux of the Gtbank case was they actually did carry out those duties but couldn't get the bank to mention the duties in a letter, only their level/rank in the bank, hence they decided to use a supervisor to write their duties as though it was issued by HR. Therefore, claiming that a document issued at your supervisors discretion (without the approval of HR/the Comapny) is official is no different.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by behati: 1:56pm On Aug 13, 2017
@Slyman187, I would not advice you to use a company's letter head paper without permission/authorisation, it is wrong! You can search for the case between CIC and sone Gtb employee.
Get your supervisor to write the reference letter in CIC format on plain paper with his contact details and probably business card. Thereafter, notarize it and attach every other document you have alongside a LOE, you'll be good.

Its unlikely to get a rejection after IP1 if you are not a security threat. I have noticed that a lot of applicants have been left hanging at NA after IP1. My theory is that the visa officer wasn't fully convinced regarding proof of funds especially for those who use gift deeds. I don't believe a gift deed issued outside Canada would be adjudged as binding. People should provide adequate explanation for funds gifted to them. I would advice that people still waiting for ppr keep their pof handy in case an update is requested.
Nothing is cast in stone with CIC! No gift deed here but hanging at NA, same for some people I know. Besides, they would ask for updated POF or issue a letter of procedural fairness for you to explain your POF if they have any doubt in that regards, not leave you hanging at NA. Speed of processing depends on a lot of factors which no one can unravel actually. Also, rejections can happen after IPI, that's when they check work experience claimed and match it with NOC, rejections can occur for choosing the wrong NOC or for not being able to verifiy work experience amongst other things.

Freeicanmaterial:
You are referring to my blog. The Case Study is marked on a point-by-by basis. Therefore, there is a bit of flexibility regarding the headings. Only the heading for conclusion is compulsory. I clearly explained this in the supporting materials.

I think a Chartered Accountant needs to verify all facts before making such a statement which is honestly very careless and disrespectful.

So many people only used my materials and they were successful with some scoring marks as high as 70.

There are differences between ICAEW's Case Study and ICAN's Case Study. For example, an executive summary is needed in ICAEW's CS while it's not needed for ICAN's CS. Therefore, one would be wasting his time including it in ICAN's own. I explained this in the supporting materials.

All in All, by stating that my solution were "very wrong" you did not exercise due care because you don't have solid evidence. A Professional Accountant needs that in addition to passing his exams.
Truth is no one can claim to have the actual template or structure for the case study, we can only use them as guides. I stated that it was wrong because the ICAN pack/guide for case study stated in clear terms not to have a heading for professional skepticism, you only need to demonstrate it! I personally would consider what's stated in the pack first before any other material.

For those of you that passed Sfm and Corporate Reporting, please how did you prepare? I seriously need tips especially for sfm.
For SFM and CR, ACCA plus ICAN study text, plus pathfinders. For CR and FR, I also used a text book on group accounts by Cosmos, not sure of the full name now. That book was everything!!!

I got 68 in case study....made u of ICAEW format.. .And it tink it reali helped me...

From the title, to d disclaimer, to d executive summary( wich encompass all d requirements). ..

To d structure of the sections and sub sections.. ..

Not only this though, good understanding of all d requirements r important(this year case scenario was simple and straight though)...
I agree!!! I only studied case study a night before the exam mainly using google search and I came across the ICAEW format, it was very helpful. I structured my report exactly the same way and I passed. Also, not to discredit anyone's hustle, there's a certain blog that claims to have the solutions to ICAN case study questions, be very careful as I found out their report structure and format was very wrong. In their solution, they had a section for professional scepticism, but the ICAN case study guide clearly stated not to have a heading called professional scepticism, you only demonstrate it in the context of your report.
Congrats to everyone that passed their papers and to others still writing, don't give up. I passed all my ICAN papers at one sitting , no tutorial centre, full time job, non accounting graduate. Its very achievable!!

Hello ,

On the issue of NOC. Inoticed my NOC is not under the 2011 NOC classification but has been included under NOC 1122 under NOC 2013 classification. I also noticed that CIC still use NOC 2011 and hardly refer to the 2016 NOC. Is this a problem
Stick to the NOC classification on CIC's website.

@tpyogirl.
Don't answer yes to both questions. Refusal of entry is different from refusal of visa.
Refusal of entry is when you get to another country and you are not allowed to go in at the border. Hence you might have been given a visa and still denied entry.
The correct thing to do is answer YES to both questions. The other question isn't just about refusal of entry. Please let's read and comprehend the questions before giving our opinions.

Please I did upfront Medicals at Q-Life. The doc said I should just upload the e-Medical information sheet that has UMI number on it. Is that correct? Also, the sheet says "page 1 of 2" but I was given only one page. Has anyone noticed this? Should I contact the hospital for clarification?
I don't think you should worry. I was told the UMI number is the relevant information and its on the page 1 of the document you're given.

I'm sure you already know the answer to your question (read your responses to Elfman on page 428). What CIC requires is what is stated on CIC's website, you only use 6 months statement if you're unable to get the letter from the bank that states the average balance over 6 months. As for your money spiking up to 3m in one month, you should be able to explain it to CIC using a LOE.

Pls what do i do if a past employer is proving sturbborn to give employement reference. Is there another alernative?
You will need to get a reference letter from a supervisor or colleague, attach their ID or complimentary card, attach proof of trying to obtain the reference letter from your employer(any correspondence will do), attach your employment, confirmation and any other support document as well as an LOE.

To the new people just starting the process, endeavour to READ, READ and READ. Even though reading this thread may seem like a lot of work to do, you can get most of the information required for this process on CIC website and questions asked here should only be case specific. Questions like how much is ielts, where can I write it? How much is visa fees and so many others are outright ridiculous considering that most people going through this are graduates and skilled professionals. Also, it probably takes lesser stress to google than logon to nairaland to type ridiculous questions. Heck, you may even get misled one day if you don't put in work by yourself. I know a lot of members are trying to be nice by answering same questions repeatedly but please let's encourage people to read and research for themselves.

Peace!
