PoliticsRe: Local Production: Rice Mills Collapsing by being(m): 6:22am On Aug 28, 2025
And which areas have u identified that we have advantages for export? this is the school of thought that led to a low purchasing power of the people. How? FX rate has shot up cos it is under serious pressure cos we are exporting only crude majorly and importing everything else since we don't have comparative advantage
lionshare:
I don’t think Nigeria has a comparative advantage in rice production; we will only be self-inflicting high prices by insisting on local production. Let’s look for areas where we have advantages and export to the world while we import services or products where our local production cost is not competitive. This is commonsensical because it’s better to have 200 million well-fed citizens with access to relatively cheaper rice than to have fewer than 500,000 farmers profiteering from the high cost of local produce at expense of 200m folks.

The problem with studying one thing and ending up doing a totally different thing is that you'll hardly move up the career ladder in your chosen career because you don't have a background there. Banks intentionally exploit this loophole so they can keep their staff in one tiny spot—doing so much and earning little. I wouldn't advise anyone go this route. It's always limiting because your employer will always use that weakness to exploit you.
Inexperienced people should stop saying what they imagined in their head like it is reality.. no bank cares about ur course of study for anything including promotions...

I like the statement finance is the last thing.. it is important but it is not the most important.. most Important is how to run d business and also manage effectively, the risks in the business.

For instance, this particular issue- d risk(one of various risks) is birds may die due to different diseases developed in the farm or external- disease outbreak.. the business manager then finds out how he can prevent such risk from materializing-- is it by immunization, constant injection of drugs, light or temp conditions, type of feeds etc

Natbrowny:
Lets talk about that 800k u lost. We know u invested more than that but lets focus on it.

So u invested 800k in a business u know nothing about. First mistake
U should have invested less and gather experience, get to know al the know hows b4 bombing the industry, visit farms, read legit articles online about start up and how to solve problem when they arise not if (coz they will show up). Dont believe everything people say or read about. Better experience it first hand

U thought having money alone can make a business thrive . Finance is the last thing

Now u can either go back to the drawing board to learn more or change a business by investing low to know more first.
Sorry 4ur loss. Wake up though

The same North-East that was a no-go area now holds events openly. Banditry and kidnappings haven’t disappeared, but the tempo has reduced in many areas compared to 2–3 years ago.

Let’s not forget this mess didn’t start last year. Real change, especially in security, takes time and consistency. We can’t judge Tinubu’s efforts like someone who’s had 8 years already.

But I’m open to hearing what specific actions you think he should have taken by now.

PoliticsRe: Dollar Was Never Around N150 In 2010 by being(m):
What is fx subsidy, what is cbn intervention?
In Nigeria, most the fx is from oil export-
Who earns this? - the oil companies and NNPC (which means CBN)
The oil coys only trade a little for salaries and some local expenses.. so only the CBN has most of the fx to trade. So the CBN must be a contributor to the fx market else supply will be the little from FPI, FDI, remittances, oil coys & other little exports.
If cbn is injecting fx at a rate that doesnt deplete the reserves ie injecting the same amt they earn, this is not a problem. It becomes unsustainable when the reserves are being depleted to supply the market! At that rate, the word subsidy could be appropriate..

But just know u are not building anything with Bonds, TBs, CPs.. u are just preserving value and that's minus d few tmes their rates lag inflation rate(like it lags currently).

AmgAmg:
seems like you’re missing the core of what I’m trying to say. I’m not denying that stories like this happen… they do

But the way it often happen is like a rare unicorn… one in a thousand, maybe even one in ten thousand. And I can’t build a business on luck or on chances that slim.

I’ve sat with this for a while… thinking, rethinking, turning it over in my head. After a lot of deliberation, I’ve come to a conclusion that feels grounded in clarity not hope or luck or spkepicisitim , hoping my property fit go up in 10 years time , I can’t do that pls…
it my hard earned money we are talking about here not some kind of lottery win ….

Just About a week ago sef , I was just scrolling through Instagram when a friend sent me a message with a link. “You need to see this,” they said. Curious, I clicked it, and it took me to a post exposing “P Wan Real Estate” for allegedly scamming their followers. As I read through the details, my heart sank. The post laid it all bare… how this company had been scamming people in with promises of dream homes, affordable plots, and secure investments, only to take their money and allocate fake stuffs to them .

People had poured their life savings , just imagine it oga , their hopes, their futures into these deals, only to be left with nothing…

Really couldn’t stop thinking about it. The more I read, the deeper it cut. kept imagining the way real estate is often presented in Nigeria feels a lot like a Ponzi scheme to me. Flashy, fast, and full of promises … but when you strip it down, the risks are heavy, and Like Recyclables.. like robbing Peter to pay Paul . And I’m not built for that kind of gamble.

Have done my homework … real feasibility studies. And from everything I’ve learned and experienced, I can say with my full chest : compounding is the fastest and safest bet . It’s not flashy, but it’s solid. It works … predictably, consistently .. and that’s what I need to build something that lasts.

That’s the path I’ve chosen.

Thank you

Yes.. (if inflation rate & consequently cp & tb rates remain 20%+) u hav 1bn in 10 years but then the purchasing value will be about same... cos of inflation..
What i was trying to pass across is tb rates only just keep purchasing value plus some 2 or 3%.

Properties keep d purchasing value + some 5% rental income(on current p.v.)+ appreciation rate(which may be high)
Because of high inflation in d last 5 years, a lot of properties have appreciated 300%(monetary value)in these 5,7 yrs.
Overall point is u should factor inflation, time value of money in ur decision

https://www.facebook.com/okezie.eunice/videos/-how-mrs-ibukun-awosika-generated-614-million-naira-capital-from-a-52-million-na/6840036069428106/
This Mrs Awosika example happened in a period of lower inflation.. of course the appreciation rate(net of inflation) is not always this steep.
AmgAmg:
First things first, before I talk the main thing wey dey my mind, make I first break down why I choose the compounding route.

Stay with me.

For clarity and reference, here’s the plan I’m working with: ₦110 million in total.

60m into treasury bills …….

I’m allocating ₦60 million into Treasury Bills. One major advantage with TBs is that the interest is paid upfront, which allows me to immediately reinvest the interest as it comes in … effectively compounding the returns manually each cycle.

Now, while the base treasury rate is around 19–20%, this reinvestment approach pushes the effective annual yield up to around 22–24%, especially when you rotate into short-term bills or other secured instruments.

Compounded over 10 years, ₦60 million grows to around ₦450 million to ₦515 million… and this is:
• Fully traceable
• Backed by the Federal Government
• Practically stress/risk-free

When I say risk-free, I mean that there’s no guesswork involved. I literally sleep and wake up, knowing my capital is 101% safe & secured.

And Then remaining ₦50 million would be going into commercial papers, mutual funds, and possibly equities … instruments that generally yield 24–26% annually.

Mutual funds, especially the flexible ones that allow monthly or quarterly withdrawals, give me room to reinvest earnings as they come, further compounding growth.

With monthly reinvestment, even a base rate of 22–24% can push actual annual returns to 25% or more.

Over 10 years, this ₦50 million could potentially grow to around ₦600 million to ₦700 million, depending on how well the reinvestments are managed and the consistency of rates.

That is Total value after 10 years: ₦1.05 billion to ₦1.2 billion

All without starting a business or having to deal with humans …

Now make we go back to the point wey I wan really talk:

Make I ask you straight up…

Which property for this Nigeria you don personally see wey give 10x return within 10 years?

I no dey talk about that kind “just buy one land for bush and forget am” kind story.
I dey talk about real, traceable example … where person buy property or land for ₦100 million and sell am for ₦1 billion inside 10 years, predictably, not by luck? .
InvestmentRe: I Recently Received An Inheritance And Now Have Over ₦150-million Just Sitting T by being(m): 4:32pm On Jul 08, 2025
Let me mention that while mutual funds/TBs are near 100% safe, the compounding rate only beats the inflation rate a little. For instance when inflation rate was 11%, TB rate was like 13,15%. Now TB rate is around 24%., u can check what current inflation rate is now.. stocks/shares can actually yield negative returns atimes.
To me a better and still safe option would have been properties (a developing area is better). This maintains(even increase) the purchasing power of that amt and gives rental income too

AmgAmg:
Just wanted to put this out there since I was the one who started everything here in the first place … so it’s only right that I share my final decision on this platform as well.

So after much thought and weighing my options, have finally decided I’m going with the compounding approach to investing, Many might ask why I picked this path, but the main driver, the absolute main reason… is because its low-risk profile.

spoke with an investment manager just last weekend , and he was incredibly confident and persuasive about the benefits of compounding. I’m actually talking about treasury bills / mutual funds / stocks /shares and the likes …

might surprise you, but he showed me some projections & numbers that suggest this approach could potentially grow into over a billion in about 10 years time. Was honestly shocked when he broke down the numbers and showed me the math behind it.

best best part? It’s completely risk-free, or at least significantly less risky than starting a business from scratch. So I won’t have to deal with the stress and uncertainty that usually comes with launching a company.

That being said , I still look forward to collaborating with a few of the people I’ve connected with on here… but the bulk of the capital, around ₦110 million out of ₦150 million, will be going into the compounding side. and The remaining ₦40 million could be used for my other project.

Thanks to everyone and may God bless you’ll
