The United States has yet to give the list of oil thieves to President Muhammadu Buhari, findings by our correspondents have shown. Saturday PUNCH learnt on Friday that during Buhari’s visit to Washington in July, 2015, the United States did not give any list. Sources at the US embassy said they were not aware of any exchange of documents between American officials and the President during the visit. If there was such a list, a source said, it was not given to Buhari during the visit. The source said, “Though President Buhari engaged in discussions on various issues with the US President Barack Obama, there was no exchange of documents between them.” When contacted, the US embassy in Abuja declined comment on the issue. The Press Attaché, Sean McIntosh, said he had no comment on the issue. There had been media report that the US government had given Buhari two separate lists containing the names of corrupt Nigerians and crude oil thieves, adding that the President was taken aback when he saw the list. The list was said to contain the names of top government officials who have been stealing the country’s oil, using their high offices to perpetrate the stealing and the other containing the names of illegal oil bunkerers. The report further stated that the list given to the President by the US might compel him to probe the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, denied knowledge of any list of corrupt Nigerians reportedly handed over to Buhari during his visit to the US. He said he would not be able to make further comment on the matter since he was not aware of the list. “I have no knowledge of the list you are talking about so I can neither confirm its authenticity nor those listed therein,” he said. www.punchng.com/news/us-yet-to-give-buhari-oil-thieves-list/ |

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has criticised the anti-corruption stance of the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as mere noise- making, witch-hunt and diversionary tactic to hoodwink the public into overlooking the seeming failure of the government to deliver on its electoral promises. Speaking through Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media, Fayose said that the president’s recent claim of knowing the location of stolen funds are unwarranted if he indeed has a hang on how to recover them. “If President Mohammadu Buhari knows exactly where the stolen funds are kept and who looted the funds, he does not need all these public announcements. “Rather, he should make public names of the looters and bring back the purported stolen funds, location of which he has identified. It is when he is able to bring back the money that he should make announcements of recovered funds. “You don’t announce a process to the public. Rather, you announce the results because that is what is of interest to the people. It is like you are announcing that you know where armed robbers reside, won’t they change their location?” Speaking further, he said: “What the All Progressives Congress (APC) spin-doctors and their collaborators in the presidency are doing is simple. It is such that when there is nothing to tell the people as per the rising Boko Haram attacks, Dollar and other foreign currencies exchange rates, petrol pump price and other seeming failed promises of the APC federal government, they will accuse former president Goodluck Jonathan and his men of corruption, insult Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and make noise about fighting corruption. “President Buhari and his men should however know that Nigeria of today is different from that of 1983 and the system under which they are operating now is also different. Nigerians are watching and unlike 1983, nothing can prevent them from asking questions, which they are already asking.” He challenged Buhari to start the anti-corruption fight from his party, saying that Nigerians know those who the president’s election and are waiting for him to reveal their sources of income. “Some of those who sponsored the president’s election have not done any other jobs apart from holding public offices. Yet, they provided private jets and funds with which the president campaigned across the length and breadth of Nigeria. He should let Nigerians know where they got money to buy private jets and the several billions of naira spent on his election. “Mr President and his men should know that these planned efforts to brand PDP as a party of corrupt people and suppress the giant strides of the Jonathan administration won’t work because Nigerians know that APC is peopled with more corrupt people and the President must treat the issue of corruption without looking at political parties. “No one sits with corruption to fight corruption because as it is today, President Buhari is sitting among corrupt people and he must first extricate himself from the comity of corruption that he is before his anti-corruption stance can be accorded respect.” https://www.thecable.ng/fayose-buhari-just-making-noise-corruption |

I've noticed for sometime now the way many critics of the Buhari administration are always quick to label the president a "dullardinh.o". Although I'm yet to make up my mind whether the name is befitting or not. The president and his campaign team might have promised to hit the ground running as soon ad they are sworn in but to the best of my knowledge they've hit the ground crawling. For me it's still to early to judge them, I'll wait till 100days, others might have a different opinion. However, for the purpose of this thread, I can be forgiven to say that the word dullardin.ho was adapted from the name of former world best player and Brazilian soccer icon Ronaldinho. The name was so popular that many guys in my area then nicknamed themselves after him or adapted his name to their names. I can even remember one brilliant dribbler then who nicknamed himself Musadinho. It is however worthy of note that Ronaldinho himself took on the name Ronaldinho at the start of his footballing career. Originally born as Ronaldo Assis de Moreirra, he took on the name Ronaldinho to mean "little Ronaldo" since there was a certain Ronaldo de Lima making waves then, the rest is history. At the twilight of de Lima's career, the Brazilian press nicknamed him "El Gordo" meaning the big one because he grew fat. When Ronaldinho too grew fat, he was nicknamed "El Gordinho". With this knowledge, I can say categorically that it is wrong to call Buhari dullardin.ho since he's the main man and the overall when you can simply call him "Dullar.d and his supporters Dullardin.ho (the small dullar.ds). Thank You *drops mic* |

Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere,
has faulted the claim by Arewa Consultative Forum
on the reports of the 2014 national conference.
The group particularly asked the ACF to “stop
peddling the funny claim of the North being 80 per
cent of Nigeria in land mass and with a higher
population” because the “fallacies have been laid to
rest.”
A statement on Sunday by the National Publicity
Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, said, “All
the over 600 resolutions taken at the conference
were by consensus as delegates never had to vote
once. The only issues that remained contentious
were the percentages of increase in derivation, the
minerals development fund and the disaster reliefs
fund.
“The point of disagreement was when some Arewa
delegates insisted that they would only agree to the
five per cent increase in derivation and same for
mineral resources development all over Nigeria on
the condition that the five per cent earmarked for
disaster intervention fund should be only for areas
where Boko Haram are operating, while other
delegates frowned on making Boko Haram a
derivation item.
“The compromise struck was to refer the items to the
president for a technical committee harmonisation.”
Afenifere added that the allegation “laced with the
usual feudal arrogance, outright misinformation,
atavistic obfuscation and delusory myopia” would
have been ignored “were it not that falsehood
repeated time and again may start to wear the garb
of truth.”
It said, “Let us from the outset make it clear that the
unitary order, which the House of Arewa, has used to
limit the flourishing of the component units of
Nigeria for decades, has now entered a terminal
crisis with shrinking receipt from oil and like a one-
legged man dancing “skelewu”, will sure hit the
ground even if he has all the stage to himself.
“And when the fall comes, ACF and co-travellers
would wish we had done the needful. They should
therefore perish the thought that Afenifere is cajoling
them to allow a restructured Nigeria.”
Afenifere said it was amused that ACF was still
peddling the claim of controlling 80 per cent of
Nigeria because it had thought the fallacies have
been laid to rest in 2014 after some of their delegates
had taunted their co-conferees from the South “with
map of Nigeria drawn at the back of their babanriga
showing the North as 80 per cent of Nigeria.”
Odumakin recalled that during the national confab,
delegates were unanimous that the figures of all the
censuses held in Nigeria till date had not been
credible due to hegemonic interferences with what
should have just been an exercise to provide
scientific data to aid planning and development.
It was also agreed that the natural boundaries of the
North and the South are Rivers Niger and Benue “but
the British drew artificial boundaries to favour the
North and punish the South for agitating for
independence.”
Afenifere also queried why the North would be using
the issue of bigger land mass, which was allegedly
cornered to its advantage, to harvest revenue from
the central purse instead of cultivating it.
The delegates, it said, also resolved that if the higher
population claim were true, “why would a man say
his neighbours should not send their children to the
best schools because they have to cater for his own
children who are more than theirs?” www.punchng.com/news/north-not-80-of-nigerian-population-afenifere-tells-acf/ |
