I will expose the materials we use in the construction of this snail farming technology. It is what anybody can do. You construct your snail farm yourself and get your breeder stock from me if you so wish.

If you also want me to supervise the construction, then you pay me for my time and consultancy.

Anybody can do it. And please have no worries about marketing your snails. That should be the least of your problems. I can vouch for that.

If for any reason you want me to handle the construction and acquiring of your materials, then you must give me my freedom to do so both financially and time wise.

Posting them soon.
Hello brother. Plz post the materials you use and a step by step process on how to go about the construction. Thanks and God bless you as you share the knowledge to fellow farmers. smiley

Skipped my mind.
Though, you need to first do a feasibility study .

What type of soil is the land composed of? Loamy?
Can you notice any snails in the area on a wet evening?
Are there shade plants such as banana or pawpaw in the land?
Any windbreaks (buildings, larger trees , fencing) ?

I am sure you get the drift now. It would be hard to raise "free range " snails in a site that is unfavorable.
Yes, the environment is perfect for snails. I have lots of snails here already which come out when ever it rains. We do pick them to cook. Lots of banana, plantain and mango trees within the premises. A few pawpaw trees are there too.
Sand is loamy and very good for vegetation. Infact the place is a haven for snails. I just need a way of containing the snails so that i can feed them with supplements in addition to what they will eat as free range, thereby making them grow bigger and faster and making them available all year round on a larger scale.

Experimenting on snail farming won't really be an easy stuff because of the long time it takes before they can mature to table size.
Well not an experiment per se, but rather let me call it a pilot project on a quarter plot. Im also into catfish farming so its not as if the snail farming is the main stuff.

You promised posting some pictures of how i can set up a free range snail farm. I would prefer something inexpensive and probably something i can construct myself. I intend to experiment on abt a quarter of a plot and if its worth the stress, i can use the whole plot for it.

It bulk sales, funny enough they average weight was btw 800gram - 1kg, those weighing 1.5kg above was sold @ 1200 but it was sold to a joint lady. Their is ds woman I have that usually buys fish from ibadan evey day a bus full of fish come to her place and she sells to d market women. They very big ones #17,250 per basin and each basin contains 25kg Dats like 690 per kg.
Very impressive sir. I will like to chat with you on whatsapp to learn more. My whatsapp numb : 08023000802

#as u rightly said, the demand and supply curve in lagos doesnt favour we farmers here and hence the price is not competitive. Most farmers av to sell below N500 per kilo in lagos if the fishes are not big.

Tbagwell1:
I think the prices of fish depends on your location and bargaining power. I still sold a friends fish last week @600 naira per kilo.
Tbagwell1:
Makurdi, Benue state capital. Am also a fish farmer. The friend I sold for, that was his 1st try I had to take charge of the sale to avoid stories that touch.
Yeah i totally agree. Location matters alot. Just like when fish used to be N600 in PH and Abuja and it was N450 in Lagos sometime back.
In Lagos the fishes have to be really massive before u can even get them to buy at N550. Were those fishes u sold very big and was it bulk sales to market women?

This was in 2009, the price of fish feed has gone up.. we now estimate #250-#300 per fish to maturity.
Infact, this is the major problem we are facing now. Cost of feeds have risen enormously, other operational costs are almost unbearable and fast growing fingerlings are rare to come by this days but the prices of fish remains almost static and unencouraging cry

2nd cages have 8 cells, it is face me and face you rabbit cage, four cell in the front and four at the back
Others Have 6, 5, 5 cells respectively... The size of the cell will or the total length will determine the size of the net to be use.
Thanks

Nice one. I was thinking the cages av to be inside a shelter sort of. Does the rain and cold not affect ur own rabbits? What is the size of each rabbit compartment and what size of wire mesh did u use for the floor of the cage? I should be able to build something like this myself.

What type of housing? Free range?

For free range on a large scale (pasture method), all you need is an electric snail tape (it depends on your financial power mainly) . But with it, not one small newly hatched will escape the "openess" of the pasture method.

Might post up pictures of a few examples later if time permits.
Thank you. Yes its free range and on a half plot of land. Please i will appreciate the pictures you spoke about. Also are there alternatives to the electric snail tape that will not require too much financial commitment in setting up?

This is one of the facinating thread that I have seen so far. Thanks to Mr Robonski and the others...... Please I want to know if a million naira will be able to feed 10,000 fingerlings to table size. If not how much should one's estimation be like. Thanks.
A million naira cannot feed 10,000 fishes. You will need about N3,000,000 for that number of fishes.

I will really appreciate pictures and tips from fellow nairalanders. Thanks

Tank u sah for ur quick response. I've not taken time to measure their exact weight though I'll do dat soon. I can bet u d seeds are good ones except for how minimal their water had been from the start.
Does the quantity of dia water affect their growth cos the cost of buying water is very high.
You have identified one of the problems: WATER! Thats good. Yes, the water level/quantity will affect the water quality and in turn affect ur water management as a whole.

Good day house. My stock is 4 months plus (wld be 5 months by 11th August) but still haven't attained 1kg in weight, what do I do to boost their size?

I feed them with vital feeds 4mm.

Thanks in anticipation of ur prompt response.

Cc robonski15 Ayosat and all d ogas
What is their average weight now?

Fishes are not machines that you can just boost and expect magical results. They are living things that need to grow and an important factor in the life of a fish is 'time'. They need time to grow and gain weight.
If your fishes are not doing too well, alot of things could have gone wrong along the line; starting from the type of fingerlings you bought to your farm practices/management. The 'type' of fingerlings/juveniles will ultimately determine the outcome of ur fishes if all other things are done well. You need to try and find out what the problem is because if you dont correct it, you will continue having the same results and no matter the 'booster' you use, the fishes will still not grow.

4mm feed is a bit small for them and by now they should be able to pick up 6mm feed (depending on the size of ur fish though). If they cant pick it, stick with the 4mm u are using.

N. B. Not all fishes get to 1kg in 4months.

Thanks @ samshot and others
How old are your rabbits (kits) inrespective of their age, you can foster them like this
1. Take away the intended mother (foster mother) away from the cage and put the new foster kits in their
2. Spray perfume to the body of the kits and the cell
3 spray the perfume to the mother body also
4.Monitor the belly and well being of the kits after fosteringm
Thanks, this method is the best from my past experience.
Does the foster mother need to be a mother thats already breast feeding her own baby rabbits?

I have been observing what has been going on, on this Forum for a very long time now, but have not send a comment, because I have not started farming. But the joy of the way farmers are assisting each other is overwhelming that I could not hold it any longer. My gratitude goes to Ronboski15, Aquadude15, Belexyfarms, and every other person both people that are asking questions and the ones that are suggesting solutions, because that's where we amateur learn from. I have not seen a wonderful family like this, People disclosing their mistakes and ideas that cost them money, to help and save others from loosing money in order to maximize profit. (This is amazing), I don't have anything to offer in appreciation than to ask God to bless everyone of you massively.

Am based at Ogun State (Agbara) and will start soon.

Remain blessed!
