First of all, it's quite unreasonable and irrational for any Nigerian graduate to believe that he/she will get an automatic job offer after graduation from a training institute, because it's director general said so.
Like the name implies, it's National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, it's a training institute not a job board or agency.

Secondly, Sahara Power Group, owner and operator of Ikeja Electric and Egbin Power Plant, advertised the job openings that led to the employment of very smart 107 graduate engineers. It was a process based on merit that saw even Nigerians that have foreign masters from the very best universities all over the world, and also those with only Nigerian universities' bachelor's degree get employment. Some persons who had previously gone through the NAPTIN training were also employed. Ofcourse, they had more advantage during the interview process, because it was a familiar terrain.

Furthermore, the new recruits (those with NAPTIN and those without NAPTIN training ) were all made to go through the entire training process from scratch because Sahara Power Group designed the training program in collaboration with NAPTIN, and also because Sahara has its own standards, upon which the new recruits were assessed and appraised.

Thirdly, if you have gone through the NAPTIN training, you are more technically inclined compared to a fresh graduate, and I suggest you sharpen your skills to pass dragnet aptitude tests, and also be able to mesmerize interviewers with your valuable engineering experience.

Lastly, my advice to NAPTIN graduates and intending NAPTIN students is, all over the world, no training institute guarantees employment, not even MIT, Havard or Stanford. These universities will only give you the statistics of their graduates that have found employment. Therefore, use your NAPTIN engineering experience as a leverage of technical ability, so as to be able to command the technical and engineering language in the presence of experienced engineers.
Besides, a friend of mine whose NAPTIN training ended in July has been going for interviews and already has a job offer from an FMCG company here in Lagos.

waleomoniyi: accommodation is an important issue. we don't even know if we 'll have the privilege of staff bus cos someone like me who lives in ogun-Lagos will have to spend a lot on transportation for the duration of the training. but providing us with accommodation instead of staff bus will be better sha

Staff bus will practically solve our problems. Especially those of us from the Abule-Egba, Iyana-Ipaja, Agege, and Ikeja axes. It would really help.

klifeomg: Its not cheap I agree but from what my friend on NAPTIN training said,he said we wouldn't be spending more than 2/3 weeks for orientation there in Surulere and then back to the field in Egbin or so and also hinted that we would be fed during the training as part of the package....
I think they will take care of that though or else this will distabilize the training as a whole.

As in eeeeh....it will seriously destabilize the whole thing like you said. Egbin and Surulere are in two different ends of Lagos, I really wonder how we are gonna be expected to get accommodation at Surulere, and then also get accommodation at Egbin two weeks later. Or go from Surulere to Egbin.

There's got to be an accommodation plan somehow. I really hope there is.

So is it confirmed that we will not be accomodated?,it means we might have to provide accomodation for ourselves.I heard from a NAPTIN student that NAPTIN provides cheap accomodation @ 3,500 per night.And also another NAPTIN student on this thread talked about our training schedule for the period of the Programme.Ideas please from the house as Aug. 1st is not far again.

Please Guys...let this issue of accommodation trend. Even though I reside in Lagos, my calculation shows that I will still be spending a fortune to transport to Surulere daily from my crib.

I saw a hostel among the facilities at the NAPTIN Akangba training centre (Surulere) on their website.

I suggest we email them and request for information concerning the cost. #3500 per night cannot be affordable, not even by Chevron or Shell graduate trainees.

nanizle: The email didn't mention whether to "print", "scan", "sign" or "attach" any the document.

It said review and revert.

review = go through the attached letter
revert = reply with your acceptance or otherwise [after reviewing]

My interpretation was that we basically send a replying saying whether or not we accept the offer and that we will eventually get to sign a hard copy issued and signed by HR!

1000 people will always have 1000 angles...All that matter is ACCEPTANCE, the way you accept is entirely your personal decision.

MrZin: Guy no vex, u were expected to sign d pdf sent to u and submit it back to them. Ur method of doing that was totally up to u, jst ensure u av ur signature on it, a proper hard copy of our signed agreement wld be given to us der. It won't cost u anything to do dat tmrw and send, jst try.

nanizle: I thought we are just to review the offer and reply if we accept or reject. Before we get the signed hard copy where we would append our own signature.

In the email, you were asked to review and revert, stating your acceptance or otherwise.
In reverting, I believe that you will have to fill in the blank spaces in the letter, attach the letter and send them an acceptance email. Which is what everyone has been doing.

nanizle: wait o... for those that got a soft copy of the admission letter, are you to print, sign and scan it or just simply reply that you accept or reject the offer?

I used a digital signature on my ADOBE to sign, also to fill my names and date, which is easier, faster and cheaper. A friend used print, sign and scan...long process if you ask me.

I also wrote an acceptance email with my signed copy of the contract letter attached.

Well I thought that she must have been an insider because the conversation on this thread suddenly went from bank alerts to getting sacked, and it was started by someone (Benik) who had not been contributing to the thread all this while. So I had to ask.
Also, I was kinda curious to know why she was fired if she was an insider, because only that will help us from getting fired...and I think she did justice to it.

benik: Well unfortunately I wasn't and that was a big mistake cos if I was fired I would have been paid off. Being fired in Sahara is not a stigma but a way of life. You go to work daily working in fear because you never know when it will be your turn. The former head of hr in Sahara power was fired unsuspecting. I remember she was at work over the weekend and worked tirelessly on Monday same and by close of work she was fired for no reason just because Tope wanted to put someone else. There is more you need to know about Sahara not just lack of job security but I will say no more I will allow you find out the rest yourself. All the best

Am sure we don't really have to fret because even the dumbest rookie knows how not to get fired.

benik: Take my word. I am not speaking based on hear say. I know loads of victims and you can also take time out and investigate. In any case I will not say resign but d fact remains don't sleep with 2 eyes shut trust me u never know where it may come from. I am sure when you get in fully you will hear more from employees. Tope Shonubi is a sacking Marshall that's his calling. He doesn't rest unless he sacks somebody.
My advice to people has always been don't ever leave your good paying job for Sahara but if u don't have any it's better than stay at home.

Please dont mind my asking...Were you fired by Sahara, because you seem to know what only a former "insider" can know?

Lentulus: The stipend is subject to tax, but no details of tax. I don't know why they're shying away from salary details after training, however they're insisting you commit 30 months! that is, after 3 months of probation o! And even telling you that you will reimburse the cost expended by the company if you don't. Haba!! E get as e be!

Those are just measures to ensure that one is focused during the training and that eventually you dont abscond after they have spent a fortune training you. I dont know if you know that it costs 750thousand Naira for a graduate to be trained at NAPTIN. So if u are getting paid while being trained, I think you should count yourself as one of the lucky few.

Whether 30 months or 30years....if u be get wetin u dey do wey better pass SAHARA, make u no join naaa...no be by force ooo...thats why its a contract where u can accept or reject....Please dont mind my tone....Many Nigerians wished they were in your shoes.

Definitely, the salary of an intern is not going to be same with that of a permanent staff. I know this from experience.

I am on the training on an individual basis...ie,not company sponsored,therefore,there might be some difference in the organisation since its going to be structured for SAHARA....
The program consist of classroom orientation for 2weeks, field work for 3months, classwork for 3weeks, field work for 3months, classwork for 3weeks,field work for 3months, and finally a management taining for 2weeks...so,most of the 12months is going to be spent on the field...Remember,I am speaking in terms of the NAPTIN Graduate skill development program, and this may differ from NAPTIN training structured for SAHARA..We await all the complete info....Rest your mind....

Thankfully you are currently undergoing training at NAPTIN, tell us what to expect and if the training will be all at NAPTIN SURULERE training facility for the duration of the 12months, or are we still going to EGBIN Power plant? We need this info in order to know whether to secure an accommodation in Surulere or go from home (For Lagos Residents)

I have received my admission letter and it contains several information including the monthly stipend and a confidentiality condition. Please understand that the confidentiality condition stated in the letter is the reason why those who have received the letter can not paste it on Nairaland or elsewhere, they would be doing that at their own peril.

Please exercise some patience, if you were recruited by Sahara Power, you will get the mail, then you can go ahead and do whatever you like with it.

LuzSp: I'm almost certain (or rather seriously hoping) that clear and detailed information (on their assistance with accommodation, venue of training, dress code, etc) will be contained in the mail carrying our "offer letter and additional information". But I wish it came sooner because I have a feeling that I'd need to do a number of things before resuming. I don't want avoidable pressure.
