Southeast Governors Demand Restructuring, Setting Up Of State police

The southeast governor's forum, after rising from a security meeting has made fresh demands to the federal government.

While having the security challenges of the region as a front-burner topic during the meeting, the southeast governors have demanded the creation of state police and restructuring as a final option to cut down the raging insecurities currently plaguing the region.

Speaking further, the Chairman of the southeast governor's forum, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state made this disclosure in a communique which was read out to newsmen after the security meeting which had in attendance, all the governors of the region, opinion leaders, and security chiefs.

Umahi had noted that a committee had already been set up to work out acceptable modalities for state policing and the report of the committee would be submitted to the National Economic Council (NEC).

The governors confirmed that the meeting had pointed out the need to support restructuring, setting up of state police, and other national issues which are of importance to the region

Recall this is coming after the governors had earlier announced the setting up of a regional security vigilante group called Ebubeagu.

The move was countered by the World Igbo Congress who disagreed and instead, asked the governors to work with the already formed ESN group.

The recent onslaught by the military on the ESN group has further shown the FG and state government is yet to come to terms with the group and as such, the governors may wish to have an alternative as the residents seem to reject the Ebubeagu while the governors are also, not in support of the ESN.

It is widely known that the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) had long formed an alliance with Cameroon’s terror group, Ambazonia. On the surface, it seemed like a union of convenience as both groups share same separatist agenda, but not many people have deciphered that the deadly unification threatens the stability of both countries. Since the declaration of independence by the Ambazonia separatist group, 14000 people are said to have died due to its attacks and military raids with over 400 villages burnt down in Cameroon. Notably, the group’s leader, Sisiku Ayuk has claimed responsibility for countless random attacks on schools, military personnel and security checkpoints. It therefore cannot be ruled as mere coincidence, recent incidences of attacks on security forces in South East Nigeria. Evidently, MNK’s adoption of the Ambazonia Modus Operandi explains these spontaneous attacks on sensitive facilities, killing of security personnel and emergence of unexplained restiveness in the region.
Although the group has repeatedly denied culpability for attacks, evidence points to the fact that relative peace began eluding the South East shortly after the illegal formation of Eastern Security Network by IPOB and subsequent unholy alliance with Ayuk. Its recent admittance to the ability to locally manufacture weapons further proves the group’s capacity to conduct organised attacks. Little wonder MNK swift support for the attack on Imo State correctional facility, stating that no person deserves to be jailed including hardened criminals. In his desperation to garner foot soldiers, he joyfully celebrated a jail break only to retract, following backlash on twitter. If Nnamdi Kanu is truly fighting in the interest of easterners, releasing hardened criminals back into the society to terrorise same innocent residents contradicts that. Let us also note that attacks on security personnel in the East can only dampen their morale, leaving residents vulnerable to criminal attacks. The scenarios that happened in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest should come to bear.
Unfortunately, MNK has acquired an uncanny ability to mislead the gullible who believe his fight is in their interest, this fuels his actions and only he and a few around him will benefit. MNK’s assertion about sacrificing his parents for the Biafran cause means he places little premium on their lives, anybody, excluding himself can be sacrificed. No doubt, the activities of IPOB is beginning to spell doom for Nigeria and its first victims will not be the Federal Government with which it has a grouse with, but the Igbos who are sympathizers to his cause and supporters of his dastardly movement. IPOB is now operating fully using tactics of the Ambazonia terror force and gullibility at a moment is not an excuse. Wisdom demands Nigerian sympathisers to refuse to be blind to the truth behind the emerging restiveness in the south east. Doomsday soon awaits us all if Nigerians (we) fold hands and watch Nnamdi Kanu WIN.

Learn to label people good or bad after personally analysing thier motivations. Don't just join the bandwagon.

Everyday, we are bombarded with countless news of killings, kidnappings, rapes, nepotism, corruption, injustices, etc, perpetuated by all manner of groups and peoples, government, and government official.
However, what is most puzzling is our reactions to this news. Often it is mere condemnation, rip to the lost, God help us, what is happening in this country o, things are getting out of hand o, God punish them and the likes; that's all! We simply move to the next news item until another news breaks, and then we repeat the circle, day in day out, year after year, decade after decade, all the while simply hoping the issues will fix themselves, but it only gets worse.

One wonders how any of the above reactions does anything at all to improve the situation. I've often asked myself if the way we react to bad news even if we are not personally affected was somewhat similar to how people in say caucasian nations react; if things would be different. It seems we've somehow gotten used to suffering as long as it's the other person who is the victim. I could say more, but we must wake up as a people and act, and I mean real action. It seems cowardice is a black thing. We must begin to change it. Fela said it about us decades ago, but it seems worse today. To make matters worse, when anyone or group rises to demand change, and that demand inconveniences us even a little, we are quick to condemn them even though they are fighting for our betterment.

Change cannot come without inconveniences and discomfort, loss and even blood. There's a price for any meaningful change. And if you cannot actively participate in effecting change, at least be willing to bear the often temporary cost, and or stop pulling down those bold enough to actively effect change.

Most of the activists we insult here everyday are comfortable enough to ignore the problems they are fighting to fix.

I'll not be surprised if some leave the message I'm passing here and begin to attack me. If you're tempted to do so, then you're part of reason I've put this out.
