I'm not one to hurriedly stereotype a tribe, but when faced with overwhelming evidence, one must call a spade a spade. this incident am about to share was the the final straw that made me see the aforementioned people for what they really are. the incident happened a while back, one of my long, night, cross-state trips taken via these common hiace commercial buses. on getting to a place called okene in Edo state we observed a commercial bus similar to ours involved in an accident and had toppled. the bus being of the same company as ours, the driver had to stop and see what assistance he could render. I being a naturally curious fella also got down to have a look. as I approached the scene of the accident, I noticed a good number of locals approaching the overturned bus fairly quickly. in my mind I was commending their good Samaritan spirit but how wrong I was. in a flash the locals had descended upon the fallen vehicle and began grabbing any item they could lay their hand on, and whisking them away. a pregnant woman nimbly mounts half bag of rice on her head and darts for the trees young boys deftly snatch bags from shattered windows, laughing young men work shoes and snatch chains off the bodies of semi conscious accident survivors. I was shell shocked. it took the confrontation of passengers of both my bus and second bus that also stopped to discourage the looters who had by then taken almost everything. I never knew theiving could be practiced on a communal level, Edo I hail una.
