I Slapped Akpabio For Harassing Me Sexually - Former NDDC Boss Explains

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio had earlier responded to allegations of corruption levelled against him by Joy Nunieh, a former Acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC).
Mrs Nunieh accused Akpabio of engaging in various forms of corruption in his administration of the NDDC.
She also told some newsmen after honoring the summon of the Senate ad-hoc committee, investigating NDDC on Friday that “nobody makes any payment in NDDC without Akpabio’s approval.”


She said, “When we first came, on the day of the inauguration, he (Akpabio) said to me in the car, ‘Madam MD, if you don’t do what I say, the same pen with which I used to sign your paper is the same pen I’ll use to remove you.”


Godswill Akpabio spoke out in an interview responding the allegations laid against him, he announced that the former NDDC MD had a character problem that the four husbands she had and divorced could explain.
He meanwhile, said that Nunieh was not sacked because of corruption, but because of her insubordination and lack of the prerequisite certificates to head an agency.
The minister blamed himself for having a soft spot for women, saying that the soft spot he had for them was the reason he never wanted to spite the former NDDC MD by making her educational deficiencies public.


“I don’t want to discuss her because that’s not the job of a Minister.
“The last MD you mentioned, Joy Nunieh, I wish she can go to hospital, see a doctor take some injections and relax.
“I’m not saying that there’s something wrong with her, but I’m saying there’s something wrong with her temperament. Remember she had about four other husbands that she married.
“You also need to bring all the other former husbands to the studio so that you ask them questions one after the other because it looks like character.
“They will have answers to her problem. Not a professional conduct, is she a professional?
“They will tell you about her characters because what I’m seeing here…if somebody comes up and say something on television channel…then the whole world…Nigerians love bad news and my job is to protect the citizens of the country and the administration of Mr. President.
“I must tell you that even Mr. President, President Buhari was not aware of all these things because I did not want to bother because he will be shocked,” Akpabio said

Thereafter, Joy Nunieh, on Monday declared publicly that she slapped Godswill Akpabio, for sexually harassing her.
She said: “I slapped him. He tried to come on me. I am an Ogoni woman and nobody jokes with us. I showed Akpabio that Rivers women do not tolerate nonsense.”

An alleged runaway COVID-19 patient, Amaka Okoro has resurfaced four weeks after been declared missing by the Edo State Government.

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki had told the public during a press briefing on April 30, 2020 about her disappearance after allegedly testing positive to coronavirus.

In a twist of events, Edo Civil Society Organisation (EDOSCO) led by Comrade Agho Omobude announced the return of the said patient.

The CEO, Akugbe ventures, Comr. Tony Kabaka Adun, has reacted to the unfortunate incidence that occured at his hotel premises this afternoon, which was fostered by the actions of the heavily embattled Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking to some media influencers, the street governor, in a calm disposition made it known that for a case still in court, which was to be determined this Friday, it is surprising that the governor could resort to this measure.

Edo State Government Demolishes Tony Adun aka Tony Kabaka’s hotel in Benin

Tony Kababa belongs to the faction supporting APC National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

He was the revenue collector during Oshiomhole's time as governor. The Edo State Government led by Godwin Obaseki disbanded them as he assumed office and Kabaka has been a vocal critique of the governor.

The government had issued a 7 day notice in October last year but the demolition was stopped by a court injunction.

The government claims demolition been carried out in the area is for flood control.

Edo State Government on Wednesday afternoon commenced demolition of a multi -million naira hotel belonging to Tony Kabaka Adun.

Bulldozers and security personnel were mobilised to the hotel at about 12 noon and began the demolition.

It was part of the state government’s commitment to removal of illegal structures erected on government property, including public schools and waterways as well as roof eave-extensions and structures erected on the right of way of roads/streets, moats, river banks, TCN high tension lines, among others in Benin City and other major settlements in the state.

Residents in the area trooped out to watched the demolition of the hotel.

The Edo State Government had in October last year, through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, issued a seven-day notice to Tony Adun to remove his T. Latifah Hotel and Suites, located at the Ugbor axis of the State capital.

It said the hotel was built on a property belonging to Ugbor Primary School.

Kabaka, who had vowed to die if the hotel was demolished, later opted to beg Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He apologised to Governor Obaseki for the words he used in the previous video saying he was “angered.”

Tony was engaged by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole administration to collect taxes from drivers.

He and other private revenue contractors were sacked by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who insisted the state government has the ability to collect its revenue.

Speaking on why the hotel must be demolished, Governor Godwin Obaseki said that no amount of blackmail would stop him from demolishing the building because it was built on government property.

Governor Obaseki told reporters last year that there was no political undertone in the decision since he had warned in the past that his administration would not tolerate lawlessness.

According to him: “Businesses cannot thrive when there is anarchy and complete disrespect for the law. For us as a government whatever we need to do to ensure that there is law and order will be done.

“If you have done the wrong thing and taken over properties that is not yours, to build on government property is the wrong thing to do. If you go and build on road, that is not the right thing to do. If government tolerates that then more people will become lawless.

“If any law has been breached in Edo State, I have sworn to the constitution to preserve order. This is a government that is not afraid of anybody and will not be subject to blackmail. Anybody who contravenes the law no matter how highly placed you are in Edo State, you will be dealt with.

“It has no political undertone. If you go to Etete now. I am doing the same thing. I am fencing the sports centre.

“I have warned in the past that anybody who encroached on government land or school properties will be dealt with. Go to Bénin Technical College, that is evidence. As long as they continue to behave lawlessly, we will enforce the law.”

Reacting to the demolition, Kabaka who spoke on the phone, said it was saddened that the state government could not wait for judgment to be delivered in the case.

Kabaka said the court had fixed Friday, February 7, 2020 for judgment in the suit.

He said he had secured injunctions stopping demolition of the hotel.

His words: “We are still in court. I have injunctions against the government. Judgment is on Friday. I have Certificate of Occupancy in my house but I don’t have C of O in the hotel.

“Let him go ahead and demolish it. 100 years is not forever.”

Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said all injunctions have been vacated at the court.

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party PDP over what he described as reckless and provocative statements intended to incite violence following it loss of the governorship seat in Imo state.

Urhokpota Hall was reportedly on fire around 2am last night. Eyewitnesses claim they heard a blast which they suspected to be a knockout sound beside the hall which preceded the fire. It was also reported that petroleum like product

Speaking at the end of year party organised for Edo North leaders in Jattu, Governor Obaseki claimed Oshiomhole cancelled the primaries conducted by the party ahead of the 2019 general elections and did his own to carry out his alleged plans to remove him from office.

Obaseki said, “He cancelled the primaries that were initially done by the party at the state level for the 2019 general elections and did his own because he could not control us at the executive (level). He manipulated the legislature so he could use the House to remove us.”

Obaseki explains how arsonists burn Edo markets, attack firefighters

The Edo State Government has shed more light on the activities of suspected arsonists, working in cohorts with unscrupulous politicians under the aegis of the disbanded Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), to sabotage markets in Benin metropolis and the state government.

The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, said this when he led members of the state executive council to inspect the extent of damage at Osa market (Ekiosa) and the Edo Development Property Agency (EDPA) after the Sunday, December 22 inferno.

He said that the incident was not an accident, but the handiwork of arsonists out to sabotage markets and discredit government.

The governor, who approved the release of N100 million to compensate traders whose goods were destroyed in the fire incident, noted that it was unfortunate that different markets in the state have been gutted by fire within a short period, a development he attributed to the antics of the enemies of the state.

The governor said intelligence reports indicated that some people who are disgruntled over his reforms and programmes targeted at improving the welfare of the people, were behind the recent infernos in markets.

The governor decried the new dimension of fire incidents in the state, where these suspected arsonists, prevent firefighters from gaining access to markets being gutted by fire.

He said the fire incidents were politically motivated by the disgruntled politicians, who had vowed to make government unbearable for him.

According to him, "They say they want to shame us; they tried other tricks, but did not succeed. They say they will cause havoc during this Yuletide, but their plans will fail.

“You cannot tell me that the fire on the 6th floor of the EDPA building was an accident. It is a clear case of arson. We had passed the market to Edo Central Senatorial District. We got to hear about the fire at about 10am. The Fire Department was sent in from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), but the people attacked them.”

“Last week, when a similar incident occurred, firefighters came in to quell the fire in Oliha market and the people chased them. There is a pattern to what they are doing.

"They should try whatever they like, but we will continue to work for the people of the state; they cannot remove us from Edo,” he said.

He asked the market women association to submit a list of traders whose goods were burnt in the market so they could be compensated, adding, “The traders should come up with a list so we can assist you to start again. The money will be given to you through Sterling Bank.”

The governor said the market would be rebuilt from early 2020, while a section of it would be cleared for the traders to use as a temporary arrangement.

He added that the state government has decided to take over the security of markets from local councils and would work with market associations to secure markets, noting that markets without fire extinguishers and borehole would be shutdown.

Responding to the proposed security framework for markets, the Edo Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Jimeta, said he would deploy his men to ensure the success of the arrangement and provide the needed strategic backing.

Oyegun while speaking at a meeting of Edo indigenes in Abuja on Thursday, December 18, said Obaseki has managed to do some things the previous governors could not do in the interest of the people of Edo state.


He also urged all members of the APC and Nigerians who are against the governor to have a rethink.

Stating that the incumbent governor of Edo state is currently standing on dignity, Oyegun said Obaseki's administration has initiated policies that a people-oriented.

He also said that Obaseki-led administration has embarked on implement policies that are a total reflection of the dreams and aspiration of the founding fathers of the state.


Oyegun said: “Given the way you became governor, given the role that you are playing today, given the kind of example that you are showing to Nigerians, people should be ready to fight for the truth."


He noted that most people have failed to understand how difficult it is to reconcile a man who has truth with a man who wants to compromise those principles at all cost.

“So it is our prayer that courage will not fail you. That the people of your state will stand by you and assure you that we will stand by you,” Oyegun added

Obaseki accused Oshiomhole of adopting the strategy of deploying police operatives from Abuja to trouble his aides.

Also in attendance was the senator representing Edo South Senatorial district, Sen. Mathew Urhoghide (PDP) who praised the governor for his Performance so far.
