Agriculture / Re: Over 50% Of Poultry Farms In Nigeria Shut Down In 2023: PAN by BennyDGreat: 10:56am On Jan 26
olisefom:

Very laudable points you have there. I think our mindset is just tailored towards consumption. Look critically into every sector and you will realise how deep this problem is.

Once an average Nigerian sees 3m, he thinks of either land, car or house...very rare for you to see them think of putting that money in a profitable venture to multiply the money. We need reorientation walahi.

I met an engineer months ago who was lamenting about tools to manufacture some saleable stuffs. When I asked him about the amount for the tools, he was mentioning around 8m or so...but to shock you, this man lives in his house (of over 10 in value)...comfortably seating on what can employ him, his community and his children.

Go check the spending pattern of the poultry farmers and you will discover that most of them lost their business as a result of them spending their money in a course not related to the farms...you buy feed and sell eggs - it's that simple! Or is it that people aren't buying eggs? Here in my community, you see egg to buy by chance. @150 per egg.

Our idea of acquisition is the root cause of this whole mess of debt, unemployment, lack of productivity and the rest.

You are right. We are a consuming nation.

That's why if you see anyone who ventures into creating something and eventually succeeds, they succeed BIG.

Can you shed more light on the 'idea of acquisition?'

I was complaining about this with a retailer in my neighbourhood yesterday.

The man was explaining to me that they always have to "book" (a week earlier - with money) before they can get specified supply (rationed offcourse).

Why are we having shortages of farm products in a country (south) of vast land and resources like Nigeria.
If insecurity is ravaging the North, what's happening in the south?

Nigerians are heading south because of our neglect of agricultural activities (majorly in the south) ...everything nobe government. But let's blame government so we can be fine.

There's insecurity as well in the South.
Many of them are unreported. If it wasn't for Sunday Igboho who made noise back then, many people won't know what was happening in the South West.

Beyond that, there's need for serious research institutes to proffer real time solutions to issues in the agricultural sector. This costs a lot. If government cannot fund it, let them woo private individuals and give them guarantee that their final results won't be stolen and ensure they make profit from their work.

Another thing is knowledge gap. How many young people today know about farming?
There has to be a lot of incentives put in place to make young people want to venture into farming.

Another thing is funding. It cost good money to run a farm that can feed even a local government.
When many consider the cost, they just japa.

Agricultural activities were majorly neglected because government, the major driver left the driving wheels

Hope you added mine sha..

because I decided to sell everything and buy dollar in late 2022 and put it into my dorm account..

Do you knw that have made a lot of profit from this Forex since than the whole of my 5-6yrs of poultry farming.

Although am making money from forex but am not happy, because via the closure of the poultry, I made 10 staffs jobless. But not my fault.

The government needs to look into small businesses survive oo

Oh my God... honestly there's a serious knowledge gap within the industry....

If the government had serious research institutes, they would have developed solutions suitable for the country putting into consideration every available factor....

We don't value research in this country.
Honestly it's painful reading this but like you said, small businesses need a lot of help...

The remaining ones that are still existing, how are they doing it?

Is there any natural resource around the axis where this crisis happens?

Not even by calling the help line.

I was in Mangu, Bokkos precisely in 2018 that was the period when their traditional ruler was murdered.

I was told that when killing started, the army came and there was curfew declared from duck to dawn. So the army will be on ground but all of a sudden, the army will be no where to be found and in few minutes the jihadist will come to attack for hours and immediately they left the army will show face again.

So, the villagers came to realise that the army will only be around to prevent the villagers to retaliate.

What's the purpose of that?
This is crazy.... wiping people out year in year out

This scenario doesn't happen to one person alone , the nest night be yours if truly the story is correct and you live in Nigeria.

Even so called righteous friends can abandon ship and go southwards in character which may lead to the harm of an innocent person amongst their friend click, see how you are justifying illegal detention of another because he finds himself in a bad situation. Jungle justice hasn't happened to you or anyone around you that's why you are saying this trash.

I met a someone who was incarcerated for two years because a friend (dry cleaner) gave him a phone to use in the main time (for a few days before he buys a new one same week. This is the twist, the dry cleaner had washed and ironed a customers clothes and found that phone which he later gave the guy to use for those few days (without telling his pal that the phone actually belonged to a customer). His intent was to give the friend to use for those few days before he got a new one and then bring it back to his shop awaiting the customers picking up his belongings after payment.

According to the guy, the the dry cleaner had already waited for his customer to come pick up his clothes for more than a month not knowing that the customer was already late during this period of waiting. The twist was that the man was living alone and his children found him dead after some days at home. They had to call the police and investigation were made and they found out that the phone was missing that's how they tracked the phone to the dry cleaners friend after putting on the phone and using it after 1 day.

The guy I met was arrested via tracking as well as the dry cleaner and they were accused of killing the man in his home. How is that even possible? How did they even know the house of the client ? Just because the clients phone was found in their possession they were incarcerated and locked for years.

This guy spent 2 years behind bars and was given bail while the dry cleaner has been in prison for the past six years without option of bail. You wi tell me the guy's deserved to be labeled murderers because of what? Shit happens and pray not to be in a dicy situation that is beyond your control.

They would have come out easily if they had money to hire a good lawyer. The police would have to prove that the man was murdered....if not they throw it out

Depends on how they got married, who they married and reasons they got married.most women marry for selfish reasons and not because they love the person and buy into his vision. Marriages like that can't and won't stand the test of time. I know two of my childhood female friends who are married for almost 10years now and you see them love and cherish their husbands everyday till today. I was with one today and she was telling me she wouldn't swap her husband for anything or anyone in the world and I was so jealous. Her husband isn't rich, just normal worker like her and they have two kids. Is it that they don't argue atimes or etc? No. But they understand marriage is commitment and not party and everyone needs to be on same page. I've never seen any of these my friends post about their family life on social media. But today's women bring their issues on socials, how do you expect such marriage or relationship to last?

You don talk finish. God bless you for the wisdom

That's a big lie.

Not with the present tax laws.

There's some element of truth in it.
Most Lagos pensioners hardly collect over 50k a month in pension.

Only few are above 50k.

The ones that easily collect a lot of money are very old retirees from places like NDIC, NNPC, CBN, NCC, FIRS...etc

As for me,I don't trust any pastor, Bishop or whatever again, because they can be completely unpredictable. They are often worse in sinfulness, than an average sinner.
Pastors, Bishops and co are known to be agents of Darkness, using their churches to bring souls under Satanic affliction and manipulation.
Pastors, Bishops and Prophets are known to surpass porn stars in sex, even organising sex orgies in their churches and secret hideouts.
If an American pastor Mark Driscoll can advocate for Anal sex, right before his congregation, what then can Nigerian pastors, Bishops and Prophets not do.
That someone bears the title of pastor, bishop or prophet, doesn't make him holy or a child of God.
If the bishop is guilty, let him face the music.
No sin ever goes unpunished or remains hidden forever.

There are many churches in U.S that preaches don't judge people and say you can remain as you are....so LGBTQ is gaining ground within church circles there

These talks no follow abeg... The Fin tech companies had CAC registration, there's NDIC certification, SCUML, ICPC, CBN and other bodies that are involved when it comes to opening a company's business accounts not to talk about a FINTECH company operating in Nigeria. All financial transactions are monitored. There are auditors too, the FINTECH companies are well known, so, what stops the CBN writing policies to track them down. Are these financial money related bodies telling us that they don't know how the money gets to the fintech companies and how they can make them accountable at the equivalent rate?

If you think the fintechs are the problem. You don't have an accurate perspective of the issue at hand.

There is a difference between 90% of the dollar did not get to Nigeria and that 90% of remittance didn't get to Nigeria. Please do you guys think you are talking to kids?

One thing I give APC government is that they know how to run effective propaganda.

That the dollar did not get to Nigeria does not mean that 20 billion dollars was not remitted. It is up to the government to find a means to get their hands on it.

Why do they even need their hands on it?

It's private money. Them laying their hands on it is to make money off it.

Let them go and fix our export earnings and stop disturbing people they didn't help to succeed in life. Wetin Naija government contribute to the life of most of those people abroad?

Leave the Fintechs alone. It's a lame excuse.

Common sense dictates the Naira paid out to the recepient is backed by forex. The grammar of it entering or not entering the country is semantics.

It's the equivalent of saying the global forex market does not affect the value of your currency because it is electronically traded and involves a lot of leverage, that it is a Kalo Kalo market.⁰00⁰

The government must sit up and do its job. The CBN needs to increase interest rates to tame inflation which will instantly arrest the weekly slide of the Naira. This will restore confidence in the local currency and start an appreciation of it.

Next, it might be best the government pegs the Naira at the official market and defends that rate, which will reduce the gap between the official plate and the black market to between 2-3%. The official rate should slightly devalued so it can be a rate the CBN can easily defend and also make the country's products and services competitive.

Remittances sent through apps should be paid in Naira. If the Naira rate is stable, most people will be fine with it.

Even with all these strategies, there will be a major flop if we don't increase export earnings by a great deal.

The imbalance will undo the good fx policies....

The government is shying away because of the work involved and want easy way out which can never be sustainable
