This is what NOI was talking about in her interview last week or so

This has never worked in the history of mankind

Ability to produce something should not mean you should produce it...

Importation is not what's killing our economy lack of export is and our trade balance is not even as bad as India

This policy would just make people poorer

Well done to President Tinubu for trying to help Nigerian businesses grow and make more things in our own country, this is a good step for Nigeria.
If he really wants to help local businesses to grow,he should fix insecurity, provide consistent electricity, reduce transport cost, tackle multiplicity of taxes, etc
Those are the basic necessities an average business needs to thrive in Nigeria!
Has the ban of foreign rice by Buhari made local rice affordable?

Respect shouldn't come in.you are not a demi God. undecided
It's not by force and I'm not God let alone a demi who made man the head over the wife!

The surname you are bearing belongs to your father!
The day your father handed you over to your husband,he instantly transferred his core responsibility to your husband, hence the change of surname!

However,If you cannot change ur surname, then do not consider marrying him as you obviously do not respect him let alone honour him!

When a president's policy is having a major and positive impact,it's the citizens that will be the first to admit or feel it esp in their pockets....not an epistle of lies from aso rock!

If after 2 years of this administration, your salary cannot buy the most basic necessities for survival, then the government has failed woefully!

Any crime agency like EFCC that is under the control of the presidency will never function effectively!

Right from the establishment of the economic and financial crimes commission till date, the agency failed in it's primary duties as it has always been used as a tool by the presidency to harass and cajole their political opponents!

No matter who becomes EFCC boss,as long as their appointment and selection was done by the presidency, they will always remain subservient to the current president!

Politics › Re: 2027: INEC Moves To Strip President's Power To Appoint Recs by bentenny(m): 12:18pm On Apr 29, 2025
Moveittothem:
Okay, let's take for the national assembly as an example.
No Senator/Representative was selected by the president, all where voted in by their constituent.

Imagine what happened in Rivers State, where at first, the house rejected the state of emergency, only to suddenly make a U-turn and approve it, just because Dollars changed hands.

Every system here is dishearteningly corrupt.
An independent electoral arm would still collect 50 Billion naira allocated to them for renovation of their office, share it among themselves and vote in The President's preferred candidate.

Come on bro!
The national assembly which is made of senators and house of rep members is a product of the faulty electoral system where the presidency is in control of INEC!
This explains why most of them became subservient to the executive knowing that their fate ultimately lies in the hands of the president who has the powers to determine if they win or lose in their respective elections!

Our goal as citizens is to ensure that the electoral system that will produce these national assembly members are transparent and credible!
That can only be achieved if an amendment is made to take away the power of the president or any political office holder to determine the selection and appointment of INEC officials including the chairman!
Politics › Re: 2027: INEC Moves To Strip President's Power To Appoint Recs by bentenny(m): 12:05pm On Apr 29, 2025
yemmit90:
Who then should select, appoint or fire INEC chairman?

How do you solve the issue of conflict of hierarchy and political alignments among the electoral officers?

Even at that, won't he/she get approval from Senate, an arm of government that you and I know that is highly corrupt?

How would you check his/her assess in carrying out their duties since they are answerable to no one?

How do you prevent the issue of bribery and favouritism in this institution?
There are two ways this can be done!

Before I go into them,we must all agree that the present system where the president is given the powers to select, appoint and sack INEC officials was unintelligent and illogical!
How would you expect a president with such powers on an electoral umpire to be non-partisan?
It's like the English premier league making a club like Manchester united or Chelsea to determine the match officials for each fixture including theirs!
Would you expect manutd to be non-partisan in their selection of a referee for their own matches? I highly doubt it!

Now back to the questions you raised about who selects, appoints and sacks the INEC chairman, there are several options but for me,but the two alternatives I'm suggesting will provide a transparent and credibility in the selection of INEC officials including the chairman!

1. An Independent Electoral council or Panel
An independent, non-partisan panel could be established to handle the selection and appointment of the INEC Chairman. This panel should include representatives from diverse sectors (e.g., academia, labor unions, religious bodies, student unions and private sector) but exclude active politicians or government officials. The panel could operate under constitutional guidelines to ensure merit-based appointments and removals. This idea aligns with calls for reducing executive control.

2. Public Election or Referendum:
A more aggressive approach involves electing the INEC Chairman through a public process, similar to how some countries select certain public officials. This could involve a nationwide vote or a selection process managed by an independent body. However, this is logistically complex, costly, and unprecedented in Nigeria’s context, making it less feasible without significant reforms.

Finally, the goal of this electoral amendment is to ensure transparency and credibility in our elections and it can only be a possibility when the electoral system is sanitized of any influence from political office holders both for the federal, state and LGA!

Moveittothem:
Even if they strip him the Power, the president's candidate is still likely gonna be selected.
He would bribe the voters or selectors, and they would eagerly select his candidate.
it's Nigeria, it's business .
Firstly, there was no sensible reason for the 1999 constitution to have given a president such powers on an electoral umpire that was supposed to determine the fate of the party of the president!

The president's party is involved and you expect the president to be non partisan in the selection of INEC officials?
This can be likened to mancity being given the powers by the English premier league to determine and appoint referees for all fixtures including theirs!

Lastly to your point, the moment the electoral system have been cleared of all the political influences, their independence will fully be restored!

In order to further strengthen the electoral system after removing the power of political office holders esp the president,an 'independent council' should be setup with the sole power to appoint and select INEC officials including the chairman!
Politics › Re: 2027: INEC Moves To Strip President's Power To Appoint Recs by bentenny(m): 2:08am On Apr 29, 2025
Why not strip the power of the president to select and appoint the INEC chairman!
That will completely solidify and strengthen the independence of INEC!
Even if that portion of the electoral law is altered, the president can still influence the selection of the REC through the INEC chairman that the presidency currently controls!

Politics › Re: INEC Moves To Legalise Voting Without PVC by bentenny(m): 8:47pm On Apr 24, 2025
There are two loopholes that were exploited by the ruling party in the last election....

The authority of the president to 'control' the chairman of an independent electoral institution and the non-existence of BVAS and IREV in the electoral law!

These loopholes if fixed would have strengthened the independence of our electoral system and ensure a near free, fair and credible election!

However, what is a top priority to the electoral umpire is facilitating a hilarious but preposterous request that will ultimately destroy the little credibility that they have managed to keep just to satisfy a power drunk president who is desperate to win at all cost!
