No big deal, because the Niger Republic and far-Northern Nigerians of Hausa and Fulah are closely related, just like the indigenous Yorubas of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo OR the Kanuris and Kanembus of Nigeria and Chad OR the Ejegbam of Cross Rivers and those in Cameroon are closely related. These are assumptions. Those that want Kanu released can also put more things in place to prevent recapture. There are IEDs now and so on. Jumping bail alone can make any Govt hold anyone forever...even USA. We are assuming Kanu has realised some things...but the position of the Govt is to take the position of caution. Decision making is HARD. I pray they do the right thing for the country.

The KANU case is not as simple as it looks. First, Buhari does not micromanage, so he wont dabble into the affairs of the state. Second, some matters are beyond the Presidency...like Asange. Even though Democrats love the leaks...the Presidency who happens to be a Democrat went after him. Even though Trump seems to be for leaks too...still had to choice but to go after and not pardon.

There are very strong interests in Kanu matters...is SE safer now with him in custody than out of it...the Military people have data to show one way or the other. Was he released before and he jumped bail? Yes, so these are all the things that the Govt will consider. In addition, there are strong elements in the Judiciary and State that do not want him released...I would not be surprised if there are folks from SE that would not want him released.

They still see him as very influential, and no one wants to release it, and find it impossible to catch him again. A wounded snake can be very very deadly. The govt might be totally wrong, but following this matter for a while, I can see where they might be coming from...lots of people have a stake in this matter.

I personally believe he can be released on HOUSE arrest with limited access with some people...but can IPOB invade and try to release him by force...another possibility. May God give the Govt the wisdom to do the right thing. No one knows the right thing until we see the consequences...we might then say...maybe they should have kept him in Jail or THANK GOD they released him, things are better now. Who knows what will happen...Making Decision as leaders is very HARD. This is why I do not always fault leadership

With barely 38 days to the end of his eight-year two tenures, President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday asked for forgiveness from those his actions may have hurt during the administration.

Speaking inside the Banquet Hall of the presidential villa, Abuja, during a Sallah homage paid to him by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents led by the Minister, Mohammed Bello, he also thanked Nigerians for tolerating him.

The President, who said he was counting days, praised democracy as the best form of government, saying that without it, he could not have become president after already serving as military head of state given the side of the country he hails from.

He reminded the audience that he is from the extreme corner of Nigeria, Daura in Katsina State, which he said is just eight kilometers from the Niger Republic.

The President stated that he decided to retire to Daura, which is far away from Abuja in order to get some respite, after years of work.

“I can’t wait to go home to Daura. If they make any noise to disturb me in Daura, I will leave for the Niger Republic. I deliberately arranged to be as far away as possible. I got what I wanted and will quietly retire to my hometown.

“In spite of technology, it will not be easy to get to Daura,” he added.
