TV/Movies › Re: Genevieve Nnaji’s 'Lionheart' Disqualified By Oscar Over Language, She Reacts by Beorn: 9:32am On Nov 05, 2019 |
Threebear: I love Genevieve but to be honest , that movie was mediocre .
Place it side by side with other movies submitted for best foreign language and it looks extremely bland .
Having 500 plus languages is no excuse .
The requirement for the category has always been clear ....best FOREIGN language .
No need to sensationalize and act pitiable .
A lot of countries are multi lingual but still manage to showcase their cultures and primary language. Read and understand. The whole brouhaha has nothing to do with the movie being mediocre, but the fact that the movie was disqualified for using more English time than Igbo language time whilst English is our official language. The basis for the disqualification is preposterous. It has nothing to do with the movie not being up to par with other films selected in its category. |

Watching the BBNaija replays....
Diane putting up Joe after mentioning Mike and Seyi was funny. Hoping to watch the replay of the Mercy and Tacha's fight when Africa Magic Family shows it . That's the only recap I hope to view when it shows. |

abduleez1: I wish that too but you know they got to keep the viewership sustained. Netflix were the pioneers of streaming, so they are the established big boys already (have huge subscription base), same can arguably be said for Amazon Prime.
At least Apple TV+ released 3 episodes of SEE at once, probably cos of initial Launch and promotion.
I haven't seen both. I just downloaded SEE pilot episode few hours ago, and the quick preview I gave it looks promising. How it's going to replicate it's premise in the series is what I'm doubtful of, and it's still the main interest point why I want to see it.
His Dark Materials seem like the GoT replacement for the meantime before the prequel premieres. Looks promising based on the Trailer I watched and going to progress a little slowly, doing it's world building. You made good points. Since HBO is a seasoned and certified producer of döpe series, I'll have to start watching His Dark Materials while waiting to read encouraging reviews on See. So far, from Koice's appraisals, it's not looking like a series worth taking risk with my precious MB on. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 10:18pm On Nov 04, 2019 |
DannyKoice: Good point, but that's not it.
Shows released on week to week basis generally have more social media buzz than shows released in one day. A weekly release allow viewers to take a breather after every episode, and share opinions and theories, while they wait for the next episode. These discussions amongst viewers create a positive buzz, hype and whatnot for the shows, thereby, manipulating online ratings in the right direction, and by extension, making a good case for these shows longevity.
Netflix don't get that sort of experience with their binge style, and if what I read online in Los Angeles Times is true, they are currently flirting with the idea of abandoning the binge formula, and switching to weekly formula.
So the bingeing culture that Netflix helped introduce to the world may well be on it's last legs. True. I forgot the buzz and hype that dropping episodes weekly bring. It creates a sort of frenzy and anticipation that helps with the notoriety and ratings of a show. TBH, while I enjoy bingeing style of Netflix and AmazinPrime, from a business POV, especially if I was the owner of any of them, I'll scrap it and go with the regular style of dropping episodes weekly. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 8:56pm On Nov 04, 2019 |
KoiceReloaded: Me too, but apparently, a lot of viewers aren't fans of Netflix style season dump. Or maybe Apple and HBO make more money dropping it episode by episode every week. |

Progenix: Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan complete season 2 is out for download.
So is Apple TV+ "SEE" 3 episodes out.
And the long awaited His Dark Materials is out season 1 episode 1
Damn, so many interesting content to keep busy this new month. This last quarter of the year is gonna be competitive for streaming services.
Watchmen ongoing and there's an upcoming The Witcher!!! It's a good time to be a TV series fan, no boredom for lack of VARIETY!!! I wish HBO and Apple TV+ can do like AmazonPrime and Netflix and release all episodes at once. BTW, are See and His Dark Materials worth it? |

Logic007: This right here is the problem of Nigeria. Ignorant people in power looking down at the educated ones and laughing.
Oga. Reality and rationality are not opposites. Numbers do not exist but they are an abstract concept used for counting and measuring.
It is very telling of your education that you do not realise that there is philosophy in fiction. That life imitates art and art imitates life.
You are lacking in knowledge. Educate yourself The earlier you stop wasting your time with that moronic crëtin, the better for you. |

kongolo: Joaquin Phoenix will not have his impeccable record dented by winning an Oscar for playing a comic book character The only record of his that'd be dented for winning an Oscar playing a comic role is the imaginary one we don't know about, the one everyone knows about will be elevated the more if he grabs an Oscar for his Joker role. You're the only human I've seen saying winning an Oscar legitimately dents an actor's record. SMH. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 9:55pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
KoiceReloaded: Bruh, like Beorn said, Oscar na Oscar. What about DiCaprio that won an Oscar for a role where he barely talked, while he got snubbed in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Great Gatsby, The Departed, et al? Pretty certain Joaquin Phoenix will be the happiest man in the world if he snagged an Oscar for the Joker role. Don't cry more than bereaved. I tire. Crying more than the bereaved best describe his posts. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 9:53pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
kongolo: I find it absolutely demeaning Joaquin Phoenix is being considered for an Oscar by portraying a comicbook character. The Gods forbid if he does win any sort of prestigious award for the role I will be done with him LOL @getting done with him. It wont dent his record if you get done with him, as if that matters anyway. I can wager you'd still watch future JP movies if he cops an Oscar for Joker role. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 9:45pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
kongolo: As a true and authentic fan of various works of Joaquin Phoenix,I believe without a shred of doubt, it will be an absolute and utter disgrace if he wins an Oscar for playing a comic book character while he never received thesame recognition for his works in The Master and Her. Heath Ledgers Oscar was handed to him based on sentimentality due to his death and nothing else.I personally loathe his cartooney portrayal of Joker If JP wins an Oscar for Joker portrayal, he won't be the first or the last actor who has put up memorable performances in the past deserving of an Oscar only to lose out but later won for a lesser acting performance. Leo Di Caprio had over the years been denied of an Oscar before finally getting with an act that wasn't his finest. Denzel Washington had more memorable performances than Training Day that got him an Oscar, but he had to act as a crooked cop in one of his average performances to win an Oscar. So, it's no big deal. It doesn't matter what he was portraying or whether he'd done better in the past, if JP wins Oscar for Joker, nobody will find it ridiculous. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 4:53pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
kongolo: It will be an absolute disgrace if a great actor like Joaquin Phoenix wins an Oscar for portraying a comic book character Nothing disgraceful about that if he gets his Oscar portraying a comic book character. The character is not the importance, it's the job he does while portraying the character that matters. Heath Ledger got an Oscar portraying the same character. Oscar na Oscar, as long as your performance was worth it, the character you portrayed doesn't matter. |
