For 70% percent royalty, the price starts at 2.99
anything less gets you a 35% royalty.

Under Rights and Pricing, select the 35% royalty option and price it at .99 cents.

I will give two pieces of advice.
One as a profit making publisher, the other as a writer.

As a publisher,
Use your pen name perferably US. US customers are more likely to buy from their own.
You will be free from any discrimination and bias.
No discrimation+reasonable price+great book= $$$$

Did you know that George Orwell is a pen name? Or J.K. Rowling?

It may be better moneywise to use a pen name.
Besides, have you considered the fact that your book may become an international bestseller?

I don't know about you, but if my book becomes that famous, I wouldn't want some stalker fan of mine to hunt me on facebook or in real life or anywhere either.
Yes, stalker fans exist!
So pen names are also used for privacy.

I just discovered that Nigeria is not among the list of countries that are supported for withdrawal and transfer.

@mk82, is there any explanation for why kindle sets a different price, which is usually higher from what one set for his book? Like you set $2.99 and kindle set thiers for $4.99

You can use corel draw or photoshop, but if you are not good in design, employ the services of a graphic designer in a business centre.

mk82: I wanted to answer this question at that time but was under antispambot ban.
Now, in the "Prior six weeks royalties" page, the column for units sold and net units sold can show either free downloads or real sales. You can easily see this under transaction type.it will be standard or free promotion.

For real sales, the royalty type will show 35% or 70%. For free downloads, it will be N/A.
The over 300 sales Beetlyf referred to were free downloads.

Now about amazon selling more than your set price. When you set the USA price, it will be used for other territories that do not have their own marketplaces. The cost of selling those books in those places will be higher than the USA price. This because of the different laws of those countries. Sometimes, you get only 35% royalty from some territories even if you chose 70%.

mk82: Amazon best sellers rank is the arrangement of books according to the sales they have made within the past 1 hour. The No. 1 book is the one with the highest sales followed by 2,3,4 and so on. A book with 304,199 is selling about 1 book per week or less. If it is on the first page of the niche, that niche is not good. Check kdpcalculatordotcom.

I just downloaded my transaction report November 2013 for my first book and discover that during the 2days period of free promotion Amazon sold more than 300 of my books at a price higher than what I set. But after the free promo was over, no more sales. \Right now my second seems to be making more sales for amazon than the free download I am getting. Doesn't it stand to reason that it is better not to promote your books at all or register with KDP select? Since it seems you lose money in the process.

@mk82. How far can a book go in the kindle market place without a review and what's responsible for a book not getting a review at all?

mk82: If you have 4700 words for a regular book, it should be close to 30 pages. By regular, I mean written in form of a novel. if you are writing recipes, this same number of words can give you 50 pages.
The arrangement of your work must be considered.
I leave one line between my paragraphs and I also insert a page break after each chapter/subchapter.
Images also increase page count.

How comes my book is just 18 pages when its more than 4700 words. I just don't understand.

Mk82, I need to understand something. Even after my promotion has expired, my account still reads "free promotion" under my transaction type and has a N/A under Royalty type. As a result my royalty for books sold is not reflected.
